Big Texas Stereotypes

SPEAKER_00

Hi there, it's TweetScott back with another edition of The Texan Edge. Texas big, Texas humble. The jokes almost write themselves, don't they? Big hats, big trucks, big talk. If you're not from here, you might think that every Texan is born with a built-in bullhorn and a spotlight.

The People Who Do Good

SPEAKER_00

But if you spend enough time in Texas, you start to notice something. The folks doing the most talking about themselves usually aren't the ones doing the most good. The real Texans, the ones who give this state its reputation, tend to show up, do the job, and slip quietly back into the

crowd. I call that being Texas Big and Texas Humble, all in the same

time. Now, think about the small town mechanic who quietly keeps half the town on the road. And he also is the guy who sponsors Little League teams, helps a widow whose car breaks down, or maybe even stays late to make sure that a young mom has a safe vehicle to drive her kids home. Now you won't see a social media post about that. He's not looking for a plaque. Or think about that teacher who buys her own classroom supplies because the budget just won't stretch. She shows up early, stays late, and tutors the kid who's slipping through the cracks. Nobody hands her a medal, and most people don't even know who she is. Or think about that ranch family that hears a neighbor's got hit hard by something bad, like an illness, or maybe a death in the family, or just a flat out bad year. Groceries start appearing, hay shows up in the pasture. There's no fanfare, there's no selfies. That's what I call Texas humble.

Confidence Without Bragging

SPEAKER_00

Now let me be clear about something. Texans are confident. We're not shy about loving this state. Yeah, we'll brag on Texas barbecue, Texas music, and Texas sunsets all day long. But when it comes to our own good deeds, the best Texans I know remember something that our grandparents drilled into all of us. If you have to brag about it, well, you're probably not doing it for the right reasons. Being Texas humble doesn't mean thinking that you're worthless. It means knowing that you're capable and choosing to put the spotlight on others instead of yourself. In a world that screams, hey, look at me, like, share, or subscribe. Texas Humble whispers, how can I help? And then he just gets to work.

The No Credit Good Deed Challenge

SPEAKER_00

So here's your Texan Edge or challenge for today, and that is do one good thing for someone and tell absolutely no one about it. Don't post it, don't hint at it, don't go fishing around for compliments. Pay for a meal, write a note, show up to help, even mow a yard. Whatever it is, let that act be between you and the person you helped and the good Lord. You might be surprised how powerful that that feels. Now, here's the quiet joy in knowing that you did the right thing for the right reason and with no audience. That's Texas big, and that's Texas

humble. This is the Texan Edge, and thank you for listening today. Tomorrow we'll look back at the days when Texas flew its own flag as a republic and the grown up choice that brought us into the Union. We'll look at that on tomorrow's Texan Edge. We'll see you then.
