"I am grateful for the care I give and receive" is a calming guided meditation for unpaid carers — gently exploring gratitude, emotional wellbeing, and the quiet exchange of care that runs through everyday life.
Through slow breathing, guided reflection, and gratitude-focused mindfulness, this meditation creates space to pause, reconnect, and recognise the value of what you give — and what you deserve to receive in return.
This episode was recorded shortly after Young at Heart ULO CIC received the Respite Care and Carer Support Award at the UK Dementia Awards 2026 — a moment that felt like the right time to reflect on compassion, connection, and the importance of rest within the caring journey.
For carers supporting someone living with dementia, gratitude can sometimes feel out of reach. This meditation offers a gentle way back to it.
Press play, pause for a moment, and allow yourself to receive a little of the care you so freely give to others.
Suitable for anyone supporting someone living with dementia, whether at home or in a professional care role.

Hi, I'm Alison. Welcome to this week's Carers Meditation podcast. Before we begin today's meditation, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Last week, Young at Heart ULO CIC received the Respite Care and Carer Support Award at the UK Dementia Awards 2026. This podcast was recognised as part of the support we provide for carers. And I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that this space exists because of the people who listen, share, and allow themselves these quiet moments of rest. So today's meditation feels especially fitting. This meditation is called I am grateful for the care I give and receive. It's a gentle practice centered around gratitude, connection, and recognizing the quiet exchange of care that exists in everyday moments. There's nothing you need to achieve here. Just a chance to pause, breathe, and soften for a little while. Now, just take a moment to settle in. And when you're ready, gently bring your attention to your breath. If your mind wanders during the meditation, that's completely natural. Just gently guide your attention back whenever you notice.
SPEAKER_01When you're ready, close your eyes.
SPEAKER_00Take a deep breath in and sigh it out. Let your hands rest loosely and comfortably. Not yet, but in just a moment. You'll tune into the quiet gratitude that lives beneath the busyness.
SPEAKER_01Breathe in appreciation and breathe out expectation. Breathe in gratitude and breathe out effort. Let your breath slow.
SPEAKER_00Let your heart soften. Silently repeat. I am grateful for the care I give and receive. I am grateful for the care I give and receive. I am grateful for the care I give and receive. Begin by thinking of one small act of care you gave today. Something ordinary but meaningful. Maybe it was a gentle word. A hot meal a reassuring presence. Let that memory settle softly within you. Like a hand resting over your heart. Now think of a moment when you received care, no matter how small. A kind message, a smile, someone making you a cup of tea. Let that moment wash over you like warm water, softening the edges of the day. With each breath, notice the exchange of care, giving and receiving. You are part of something bigger. A quiet web of kindness, of effort, and of love.
SPEAKER_01Silently repeat.
SPEAKER_00I receive with grace. I am grateful for both. I give with love. I receive with grace. I am grateful for both. I give with love. I receive with grace.
SPEAKER_01I am grateful for both.
SPEAKER_00Take one more slow, deep breath, filling your chest with gratitude. Gently wiggle your fingers and toes, and when you're ready, open your eyes. You care deeply, and that matters. Thank you for taking this time for yourself and for all that you do. I'll see you next time for the next meditation.
