Calm Before the Storm Meditation | For Dementia Carers
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The Calm Before the Storm is a short guided meditation for unpaid carers and anyone facing a demanding moment — designed to help you steady your mind and settle your nervous system before whatever comes next.
Using gentle breathing, grounding, and relaxation, this practice creates a quiet pause between where you are now and what you're about to face. Not to make it disappear, but to help you meet it from a calmer, more centred place.
For carers supporting someone living with dementia, difficult moments rarely announce themselves. This meditation is for the times when you can feel one coming — and you need just a few minutes to find your footing before you step forward.
Short enough to fit into the spaces between. Powerful enough to make a difference.
Press play, take a breath, and find your calm before whatever comes next.
Suitable for anyone supporting someone living with dementia, whether at home or in a professional care role.

Maybe you're preparing for difficult conversation. An appointment. Or simply trying to steady yourself before whatever comes next. There's nothing you need to foster here. Just a few quiet moments to breathe, reset, and reconnect with yourself. Now, just take a moment to settle in. And when you're ready, gently bring your attention to your breath. If your mind wanders during the meditation, that's completely natural. Just gently guide your attention back whenever you notice. Take a deep breath in and slowly let it go. Not yet, but in just a moment, you'll begin to feel calmer, steadier, and more prepared for whatever lies ahead. Bring your awareness to your body. Relax your jaw, letting go of any clenching or tightness. Allow your shoulders to drop away from your ears and let your hands rest softly and comfortably. Now begin to slow your breathing. Breathe in through your nose for four. Hold gently for four and slowly breathe out for six. Again, breathe in through your nose for four. Hold gently for four. Slowly breathe out for six. Breathe in. Hold softly, breathing out slowly. With each breath, feel tension leaving the body. Allow your breath to steady your mind. Silently repeat. I am strong. I am ready. I am calm. I am strong. I am ready. Notice your breath moving naturally. You do not need to have everything figured out right now. Just this breath. Just this moment. Take one final slow deep breath in. And gently breathe out. And when you are ready, open your eyes. Carry this sense of steadiness and calm with you into whatever comes next. Thank you for taking this time for yourself. I'll see you next week for the next meditation.
