Welcome and Guest Introduction
Speaker 1Ready, ready. Hey, everyone, welcome back to the latest episode of Snitchin'. It's your host, kristen and Brittany. Get ready for the best part of your day and we have a very special guest on this episode. As we all know, the football season is kicking off this week and we need to educate ourselves, and we're hoping to educate all of you guys on what to look out for as we head into the football season, and we're hoping to educate all of you guys on what to look out for as we head into the football season. So we have our resident expert here, kyle, to help us talk through what's going to happen over the next few months yes yeah basically just want to.
Speaker 2Well, I will say we got a lot of positive feedback from taylor's episode with the pga. Everyone thought it was really interesting learning about something new. So we basically just want you to tell us everything we need to know to sound smart to other people once football season starts, that's the real goal.
Speaker 3Hopefully I can be informative.
Speaker 1We should also say Kyle is Brittany's brother.
Speaker 3Yes, oh yeah, and Sammy's husband.
Speaker 1And.
Speaker 3The bookworm.
Speaker 2The bookworm. Is it true that I don't know if you know, but Sammy said she hasn't listened to her episode because she's afraid to hear her own voice.
Speaker 3Yeah, she doesn't like to hear her own voice, so she hasn't listened, but I listened she was very good.
Speaker 1It was very funny. Yeah, she killed it. It was great to have her on Brittany said it on our last episode, but but I we were texting like right after trying to get the next one set up yeah, as bernie can attest, I'm not much of a reader, but the um the book did sound good it was.
Speaker 1Sammy has tried incredibly hard to make kyle a reader it's not for all of us no, I for some reason I have a feeling you're not itching to go read the boys of tom and our next book, club book.
Speaker 3But that's no, no, probably not.
Top NFL Teams to Watch This Season
Speaker 2I've heard sammy talk about it enough yeah, I was gonna say you've definitely heard about these books, because I feel like there are like six of them and sammy's been reading them for a while. Yeah, but cool, all right. Well, baby k, uncle kyle, let's get into it awesome, let's do it. Football is starting tomorrow. Get ready everyone. So I guess maybe we can start just tell us about, like, who are, who are good teams to watch so obviously, as you guys resident swifties know, the chiefs are always very good.
Speaker 3I'm not a huge fan of the chiefs just because they're always good. I know how it feels now for you know, being a patriots fan for the last 20 years and then two other teams, so obviously you guys know it's like AFC NFC.
Speaker 1Yes but you know what. But you know what, maybe we should. Some of our listeners might not know okay, sure, yeah.
Speaker 3So there's 32 teams in the NFL and it's split, 16 and 16. Afc and NFC, based on you know geographically where you're located. So there's, you know, afc, afc and NFC, based on you know geographically where you're located. So there's, you know, afc East, afc South, afc North and AFC. Which one are they leading off? West, west, afc West yes, and then there's the same for the NFC. So in the AFC, it's really the Chiefs, and then there's the Bills, who are in the AFC East with the Patriots. They've been good for the last five years, but they really can't get over the hump of winning in the playoffs and beating Mahomes. I hate the Bills, yeah.
Speaker 2Don't get over the hump.
Speaker 1See the Bills.
Speaker 2I root for them.
Speaker 3I also like them too.
Speaker 1Yeah, I feel like compared to the Pats being in the AFC East. So we're both in the afc east. Yeah, dolphins and the jets and like who cares about the jets?
Speaker 2yeah, and I feel like they're like the little brother, the jv that like if we can't, win I want them to win well, and I feel like that about miami yeah, but like miami's, like at least.
Speaker 3Like if you're a dolphin fan, you probably live in like a nice, cool city like buffalo, like all you have is football.
Speaker 1No, that is such a good point yeah.
Speaker 3So, like Bills fans, they're very passionate and like, not in like an insufferable way, like the Jets are, or like Eagles fans are, I also tend to find myself rooting for them. Their quarterback, josh Allen, just married. Is it Haley Steinfeld? Well done, kyle Well done.
Speaker 3For your listeners. Haley Steinfeld's husband is the quarterback of the Bills. Another team in the AFC is the Ravens. Lamar Jackson is their quarterback. He's very good as well. Another team that just can't win in the playoffs or beat Mahomes. If you're sensing a trend, mahomes is very good. And then in the NFC, the Eagles, who won the Super Bowl last year. They beat the Chiefs, the Lions and the Packers.
Speaker 2Oh, the Packers are going to be good.
Speaker 3Yay, packers are going to be good. Yes, they just traded for big trade, one of the biggest trades in the NFL. They just traded for the Cowboys best player, Michael Parsons, who's a defensive lineman. I just heard about that. Oh my God. Okay, it was like the biggest trade probably in the last like 20 years in the NFL.
Speaker 1Is he that good? Is Michael Parsons that good?
Speaker 3Top five in like the NFL. Yeah, he's very good, but him and Jerry Jones. Do you guys know who Jerry Jones?
Speaker 1is.
Speaker 2Is he the owner of Cowboys. Yes, you know how I know that. You know how I know that Dallas.
Speaker 1Cowboys cheerleader Dallas.
Speaker 2Cowboys cheerleader. Yeah.
Speaker 3Same. He's like the number one owner in NFL. He loves to like the dramatics of the NFL. He's like the reason that media deals and all that stuff are big in the NFL these days. He's a lot to not blame but give credit to for modernizing the NFL. Interesting. But him and Micah butted heads over a contract extension. Oh, he traded them, yes, which is a big trade for the Packers. So they'll be good this year. They have a good defense. Who's their quarterback.
Speaker 2Jordan Love. I feel like I should. I should disclaimer. Actually, you guys are probably going to catch on to this if you're listening, but my football knowledge is very spotty, yeah. I feel like a few years ago well, yeah, I feel like a few years ago I was like before I had kids I was like watching football, like way into it. That was when the Pats were good. And then the last few years, like since the pats have sucked, I've kind of fallen off yeah, I'll give you credit.
Speaker 2I feel like there has been years where you, like, know your stuff well, yeah, that's why it's like sometimes if I seem like I know what I'm talking about, and then sometimes like I have no clue.
Rising Stars and Rookie Talent
Speaker 1That's why yeah, I feel like there's this thing where, like at least my brain it's like so many guys I've talked to will know like the stats of like every single player on these random teams and I'm like, how do you know that? But then they look like turn around to me and I'm like, oh, you don't know that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby is Surrey Cruise. Like you don't know that, like you don't know the birthday. You don't know that, taylor.
Speaker 2Swift's coming out with a new album on October 3rd yeah.
Speaker 3Both using the same part of our brains, just for different information.
Speaker 1Totally Exactly. Can I ask you a question, kyle Wait? Is there a game being played in Brazil? I thought I saw what's that about.
Speaker 3So, as you can imagine, the NFL owners are very greedy. They're trying to get into international markets. They've played in London for the last like 10 years. Now they do a few games in London and they did. They've last like five years. They've done a game in Germany and they're actually going to Spain this year, I believe. Madrid, the Dolphins.
Speaker 2Didn't they go to Mexico City?
Speaker 3Yep, they went to Mexico City as well and this year, yeah, they're they're. They did it last year as well and they're doing it this year. They're going to brazil on friday. That game we played friday. Yeah. So, chiefs and the chargers, interesting.
Speaker 1I mean, I guess that makes sense, but okay, so recapping, so nfc, if people are saying like who's good?
Speaker 3nfc the eagles, lions, packers, the rams who play in la. They should be pretty good this year. And then AFC is yeah, the Chiefs, as usual, Bills, Ravens. Those three teams have kind of been the top three for the last like four or five years. Now I'll also throw the Bengals in there as well.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, I love the Bengals.
Speaker 3Joe Burrow is their quarterback. I'm sure you guys know Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1I love Joe Burrow, I love that whole team. I love Jamar Chase. I love T Higgins, clemson player. He's on my fantasy team.
Speaker 3Yeah, they'll be very good.
Speaker 2Speaking of rookies, like who are the good rookies? Oh yeah.
Speaker 3Yeah, I have to say Will Campbell, the Patriots first round pick. He's a left tackle though, so he's not very notable. Travis Hunter is. If you're a college football fan, you probably know Travis Hunter. He won the Heisman last year, which is like the best player in college. What makes him unique is he plays both sides of the ball full time.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, Crazy.
Speaker 3So he plays defensive back and wide receiver the whole game. So when he's out on offense, he's wide receiver. When the defense comes out, he goes and plays defense. They have individual awards for every position group as well, and he won most valuable wide receiver and most valuable cornerback last year. Oh, that's crazy. Yes, which is crazy.
Speaker 2What college did he go to?
Speaker 3I don't see the first time he went to Colorado, where Deion Sanders is the coach oh has that ever been done before?
Speaker 1Has there ever been an nfl player to play both sides of the ball?
Speaker 3yeah, it's been done, not full time, though there's there's been, obviously, people that like they'll rotate in and out, like they'll play wide receiver for a few drives and then play like defensive back for a few drives, but never full time. So he's gonna be, he says he's planning on doing it. They just released the depth chart, which is like where you are on, like if you're a starter, if you're back up, he's the starting wide receiver and he's the bat. He's the second string cornerback right now. So those, we'll see how he he does wait, though.
Speaker 1Can you give your opinion on this? Because, for those who might not know the positions, because I'm sure we do have some rookies. Wide receivers are like the people on offense that the quarterback like throws to.
Speaker 2And then cornerback.
Speaker 1I heard the cornerback and this is what I want to get your opinion on.
Speaker 2I feel like that's like the hardest position.
Speaker 1That's what I heard.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 3They say, like quarterback is obviously the most important position on the field, but cornerback is probably the most like, athletically, like gifted player on the field, because you have someone running full speed at you. You're backpedaling full speed to try and keep up with them and then you're also trying to turn around and find the ball in the air to block it if it's getting thrown your way and like you're worried about pass interference right, right and you can't like grab or hold on to the player to like stop them catching it.
Speaker 3So yes, I would say cornerback is probably the most talented athletic person on the field.
Speaker 2Okay, do you pick this guy in fantasy? Though I feel like I was reading about fantasy.
Speaker 3Yeah, he's low on the fantasy rankings just because people are skeptical that he can. He's going to eventually have to pick one or the other. He might choose defensive back, which does you know good in fantasy, cause you just pick up playing defense. But he wasn't very good wide receiver in college, so interesting.
Speaker 1And something else that we should clarify, cause like a lot of times snitches when you listen to, like ESPN or whatever they say, like the secondary, and that's right, that's what we're talking about.
Speaker 3Yeah, so there's the cornerbacks and the safeties, so like it's. If you're thinking about a football field, it's like the four people that are standing farthest away from the quarterback oh, I love that explanation.
Speaker 1That makes it a lot easier.
Speaker 3There's like d line, who's like the closest, then the linebackers who are in the middle, and then the four defensive back or secondary, that's in like the furthest away field.
Speaker 2Don't the rules. I feel like they at least according to Chris, they have like changed a lot of the football rules to give offense more points, so there's like it's hard to be a cornerback because there's like more rules against them too.
Speaker 3Right, yeah, you can't grab or hold. There's a lot of like if you get hit really hard, they'll call a penalty on the defense. So a lot of the times the defenders are scared to lower their helmet and hit you so that the quarterbacks just throw it up to the wide receivers because they know that the player won't hit them or get hurt. I didn't know that the rules have definitely lended itself to offense because people like points and touchdowns.
Speaker 2It's more entertaining.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's more entertaining.
Speaker 1I guess that makes sense. Yeah, and like there was that player, demar Hamlin, that was really hurt. I forgot about that. That was so crazy. I watched that game live.
Speaker 2And I remember being like oh my.
Speaker 1God, what's going on? And that was so scary.
Speaker 3It was the biggest game of the year Because it was week 16, two teams in first place in their divisions and, yeah, it was the first 10 minutes of the game and I think actually not to keep making everything about Clemson, but I'm pretty sure it was T Higgins who hit him. Oh, really, yeah, it was DeMar Hamlin's in the secondary.
Speaker 1Yeah, which we now know what that means.
Speaker 3Which we now know what that means.
Speaker 2The farthest away from the ball, exactly.
Speaker 1We're learning so much. That was so hard, All right.
Speaker 2What about? Who are the good quarterbacks? Obviously Mahomes.
Speaker 3Yeah, good quarterbacks. Yeah, Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson we already talked about them. There's Justin Herbert, who's very good. He's on the Chargers. He just came in a relationship with Madison Beer. Do you guys know Madison Beer?
Speaker 1She's like an influencer right.
Speaker 3Yeah, she's like an influencer. I saw it on Instagram. A lot of people were excited about it. I don't know, but yeah, they're kind of the five in the AFC that are very good. In the NFC there's Jalen Hurts who's the Eagles quarterback, so he's kind of like polarizing. A lot of people think he's either very good or like he got. He won the super bowl last year so obviously that's a huge accomplishment, but a lot of people think he was like carried by his defense to the super bowl. So like this year coming up he has like a big year to like kind of prove it yeah, we.
Speaker 1But we like him because he has an all-female like team, like his manager, I didn't know that I know his agent was his uh, female. He's like it's like his manager and I think there's like one other person. So, ladies, we love that. He's been interviewed about it and he was just like yeah, like they just get the job done, get shit done. And I think he has. I mean, I don't know this, but I think he has like one of the biggest contracts, but he's also really good.
Speaker 3And then, yeah, jaden Daniels. I don't know if you guys know him. He won the Heisman for college two years ago and he was the second overall pick. Last year he's a rookie Brought his team to the NFC Championship game, which is like the second-to-last game before the Super Bowl. So he was very, very good last year. A lot of people are watching to see if he will be good this year as well, or there's a sophomore slump with him. He's the Washington Commanders quarterback.
Speaker 2I hate that name.
Speaker 3Yeah, kind of an irrelevant franchise, but they were very good last year. What about Jared Goff.
Speaker 1Oh, we love him. Jared Goff is good.
Patriots Prospects and Team Rivalries
Speaker 3Yeah, detroit was very good last year. A lot of people say that his offense that he's in was the reason he's good. He's like a game manager, quote unquote. So he just like, doesn't make mistakes, throws the ball into his, gives the ball to the playmakers and, like, just follows the rules. Yeah, exactly when we need the game.
Speaker 1Won't lose you the game, though, so I guess it's good okay, I feel like we in the brady era have like these quarterback names that we remember and they're still like floating around. I see them out there, like Aaron Rogers.
Speaker 3What are you I?
Speaker 1mean what are we doing?
Speaker 3Yeah, he's still playing. Yeah, he's like 43. He just signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 1I mean, I just think he needs to hang it up.
Speaker 3No, yeah, I mean I, yeah, yeah, I mean I. Yeah, he wasn't very good the last two years with the jets, but making still making good money. Why not keep it going?
Speaker 2yeah, he needs a better attitude or something. I feel like it's like his personality. I just don't like him. He's very athletically gifted and fun to watch I guess I don't know.
Speaker 1I feel like, after he like literally got hurt on like the first week that he was, I was just like get out of here.
Speaker 3Yeah, so jets, that's so. Oh my God so jets.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's so. Jets must be tough to be a jets fan, do you think that's like the worst franchise to root for? I think it might be.
Speaker 3The the bills in the 90s. They went to. They went to four Super Bowls in a row. They lost every single one of them. No, yeah, so they haven't won one, I just forget how long.
Speaker 2but that's embarrassing, that's brutal.
Speaker 3So that's like they say, that's like the epitome of bad franchise.
Speaker 2Yeah, and that's why I feel like the Bills fans suck. It's like you guys aren't good. You've never even won.
Speaker 3Yeah. Yeah it's like you guys aren't good, you've never even won.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, but bills mafia seems so fun. I feel like they seem like weirdos.
Speaker 1No, I'm in on it and I'm with you, kyle.
Speaker 3Like, at least like if you're in a warm city, like the bills right they're in buffalo, yeah like during the peak, like football season, like december, january, there's like nothing to do but like watch the bills play that's why it's like I don't know kind of more pathetic.
Speaker 2Yeah, I guess remember when they, like me, remember when they bought, like the billboard outside of gillette yeah and like yeah so that's put something negative about the patriots on it. Their fans did that. They like, bought a billboard near gillette and so it's like, okay, Bills fans, you're not even on our radar. Like back then, the Patriots were so good that, like they didn't give a fuck about the Bills.
Speaker 3Yeah, now the Bills are the ones to beat, though They've won like six AFC East championships in a row.
Speaker 2And they still act like they won the Super Bowl. Every time they beat the patriots it's like the patriots suck.
Speaker 1That's not a big accomplishment anymore well, maybe we should ask like, what do you think about the patriots kyle? Like are they? Making the playoffs are we thinking drake may is gonna do. Well, what do you think?
Speaker 3yes, I am very optimistic on the patriots. Mike rabel, who used to be a player for the patriots back in the early 2000s, won like three Super Bowls with them. He just got hired as the coach so he's coming in. He was the coach of the Titans for a while Very good coach. He's like a player's coach because he obviously played, so they all like respect him and he's like a good leader quote unquote. So I think he'll be able to turn it around. Drake May had a very positive rookie year, showed a lot of flashes of like competent quarterback like Matt Jones who was the quarterback before. Drake May was just brutal.
Speaker 3Like he looks like an insurance agent, like he did not look like an NFL quarterback.
Speaker 1So true.
Speaker 3Yeah, drake May at least like looks the part of a quarterback, like he had a lot of flashes last year. Their schedule is also very easy. So they play in the NFL. How it works is they designate you a division that you play. That's not the AFC East. So you play eight AFC East games, or six AFC East games, I should say and then you play like one division from the other league and then you play two divisions I believe math, math but something like that in the AFC and if you finish, the place you finished in last year is basically the place of the team you play this year. So like we have a fourth place schedule because we finished fourth last year in the AFC East. So all our opponents were finished fourth last year in the AFC. So all our opponents were finished fourth last year as well.
Speaker 3Oh their schedule is very easy, quote unquote. Other teams could turn around and be very good from last year, but on paper, right now, their schedule is one of the easier ones, the NFL, which should help them also.
Speaker 1Wow, I never knew that. That's how they did the schedule Wait and then.
Speaker 3Okay, I feel like I always knew that that's how they did the schedule, wait and then, okay, I feel like I always knew that this was so you're basically saying like a little confusing, but if you're the first place team in the AFC East and you play the AFC West and the NFC West next year like that's how your schedule lines up you play the who, you play the team first place team that division.
Speaker 3But yes, so their their schedule should be easy and like. With the addition of Mike Rabel, I think he's a lot better coach than Gerard Mayo was. But yes, I have the Patriots as the last team in the playoffs.
Speaker 2Okay, let's go. I feel like that would be a successful season. Yes, progress, you know 10 and 7.
Speaker 3They Progress. You know 10 and 7. They were last year. They were something like whatever 2 and 15, 3 and 14 or something. So any slight improvement is a plus.
Speaker 2I don't know if you guys are like this, but I feel like it's so hard to watch the Pats when they're bad Like watching bad football to me is like watching paint dry Watching good football is like the best thing ever. It's just like the Pats. I feel like went from being so fun to watch, to being like painful.
Speaker 1I mean, we grew up in literally 20 years of like. The only football we knew was like we were very pampered.
Speaker 3I know.
Speaker 1Yeah, so I I agree with you. It's like so hard to not. You know what it is. It's like you always kind of had belief in brady and the pats that even if they were behind, like especially when it got down, they'll come back Like the confidence was there, and now, when I watch, it's just you don't know, you know, and that's like that's how other teams feel, right, like speaking of other teams, though, are there any teams that you just like hate? Yeah?
Speaker 3I would say I do hate I know I talked about it at the beginning, but I do hate the chiefs. Just how like they're always on prime time, Like it's always Mahomes.
Speaker 2Yeah, but you sound.
Speaker 3you sound kind of like I feel like you say that as a Pats fan you sound kind of hypocritical. Yes, yes, it's very hypocritical. Also, I know you guys aren't going to like this, but like the whole like Travis Kelsey, Taylor Swift thing like just makes them more like on prime time and like always in the spotlight. They're always like talking about the Chiefs and stuff, so it's doesn't help. I do also hate the Eagles. Hate the Eagles. Their fans are in soccer balls.
Speaker 3I was. I was in college when they beat them in the Superbowl. It was like the worst night of my life. Like they were, so it was so bad.
Speaker 2Oh, when they beat the pads.
Speaker 3Yeah, when the Eagles beat the Pats and then the Giants also hate them, spoiled the Patriots' 17th perfect season. We have history, yeah. And then I put the Jets as well. But no one really cares about the Jets, they're kind of irrelevant. But another fan base, that's just insufferable.
Speaker 1All the other ones. I don't really have a favorite team. I just kind of like rooting for certain players. I feel like fantasy kind of like has gotten me more into that, where, like, it's not even certain franchises I like, but yeah, there's like certain players that, yeah, are really good for your team, or just that you start to like right or like like clemson players, if you went to a certain school, go Tigers.
Speaker 2That's right. Yeah, I know Fantasy. It does make you watch football and it makes you care about other teams more, which I like.
Speaker 1Yeah, me too.
Speaker 2Which actually is relevant to our next question about gambling. I feel like I don't even know what question to actually ask about football gambling.
Speaker 1Yeah, same what's the spread.
Speaker 2What's people talking about when they're betting?
Understanding Football Betting and Spreads
Speaker 3Sure. So obviously every team isn't equal in a given game. So how they make them equal for betting purposes is called the spread. So for example, if it's minus three, we'll call it. So the Patriots play the Raiders on Sunday. They're minus three versus the Raiders, so that means for you to win your bet. If you bet on the Patriots, the Patriots have to win by four points.
Speaker 3If they win by three points, it's a tie. If they win by two points, it's a loss. So you're basically starting the game down by four points. Obviously, the other way, if you bet the Raiders plus three and they lose by two, you win your bet. If they win the game outright, you win your bet as well. And then you can also bet that money line. So that just means that, like, you take the spread out of it. So if the Patriots are minus 150 on the money line, you have to bet $150 to win a hundred. If you bet the spread, you only have to bet, like 105 or 110. So you're basically buying those three points and then if they Patriots win the game, you win your bet. If they lose the game, you lose your bet.
Speaker 1I feel like betting is like literally like organic chemistry, like I just feel like I can't wrap my mind around this.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, there's a lot of terms, it's a lot of different terms, but yeah, and then there's something called the over under. So in NFL games they'll Vegas will set like a line of points. So most of the times it's around 45 in a game. So if the Patriots over under is 45, that just means that the two teams combined, if you bet on the over, they have to score 46 points. Okay, I love that. That's easy If they. If they score 44 points in the game, if the game ends 22 to 22, you lose your bet. If it, if it finishes 24 to 22, you win your bet, love that Wait.
Speaker 1So just really quick back to the money line thing. So you are. So money lines, just there's no spread. You said it's just a win or lose. They win or lose but they but it.
Speaker 3The Vegas is saying the Patriots are a better team than the Raiders on Sunday, so you have to pay more. You have to pay more money, you know, to win that same $100 bet or whatever you want. You don't win as much money, yeah, you don't win as much money, or you like, the odds are different.
Speaker 1So if you want to win more, you're probably going to take the spread bet.
Speaker 3Yes, but if you don't want to put up as much, you'll take the spread. But if you're like confident in the Patriots, you're like this team's going to blow them out, like I'm just going to take the money line, leave the points, I'll just bet more money on the Patriots money line and then, but you could lose more money.
Speaker 1Oh, I see. Okay, so it's really just like about how confident you are in your team.
Speaker 3Right, yeah, essentially yes, but, like sometimes, if a spreadots were minus 10, the money line would be like minus 300. So you'd have to put up $300 to win that same hundred Dang yes. So it's like can backfire.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's stressful, do you know what like. Kyle and Brendan and their friends always do is like when they're together they'll do like a group bet.
Speaker 1Yeah, oh smart.
Speaker 2And so like everyone puts money in and then everyone's like rooting for the same thing, so it's like more fun.
Speaker 1Oh my God, Brittany, let's do that. I know That'd be so fun.
Speaker 3Yeah, and there's. You could do like I don't want to. I don't want to confuse you too much, kristen, but then there's like parlays where you can like pick multiple games and then the odds are like a lot higher that that bet will win. So it'll Like this might be too down the road, but we've already gone this far. Yeah, let's do it. It would be like a three-pick parlay would be like plus 600 odds. So if those three picks hit and you bet $100 on it, you win 600.
Speaker 1Because all three of the games have to hit Right.
Speaker 3It's unlikely that those three will hit.
Speaker 2Yeah, this is why I don't gamble. I'm already stressed out, I'm already like oh my goodness.
Speaker 1Well do people mainly go to DraftKings to bet? Is that the big gaming platform or gambling?
Speaker 3platform yeah, there's in Massachusetts. The legal ones, yeah, but the two big main ones are DraftKings and FanDuel. So those are the two big ones. Those are like the two biggest around the country.
Speaker 2If I wanted to bet on like if Taylor Swift's going to perform in the Super Bowl. Apparently, Vegas is favoring that hard. Oh yeah, According to Instagram. Great Like, where do you go? Can you do that on DraftKings?
Speaker 3You could. I don't know Specifically. You might be able to find it on DraftKings or FanDuel. It might be on like some weird website, because they want you to just like download the app and bet through them, so they might offer weird bets like that. That's like the big thing with the super bowl too is like all the prop bets you guys know about this.
Speaker 3Like you can bet like color of the gatorade or like how long the national anthem goes, or you know how long the halftime show is like all that stupid stuff, like that's like the big thing about the super bowl, is they like Vegas has all those like different types of bets people will bet on anything?
Speaker 1yes, they will. I mean, you kind of already touched on this Kyle about and I totally see. Here's the thing. I totally understand why if you're not a Chiefs fan, the Taylor of it all can be a little much because they're getting so much limelight. But would so, would you say, like as a male who watches nfl, does it bother you seeing taylor? What are your thoughts?
Speaker 3no, I I would say it does not bother me to see taylor. I think, like you said, they're like always in prime time. So it's like sunday night, monday night, thursday night are the prime time games, because they're like the only games on tv at that time. Yeah, so those are technically quote-unquote primetime games. For anyone wondering, yeah, they're like the national games, but I do. When they show her like a hundred times in a game or like after they like complete a pass and like show Taylor Swift in the stands, it's like okay, like I don't need to see her, like, yes, she's at the game. Yeah, yeah, like she's dating Taylor.
Speaker 2I feel like she doesn't want that too. Yeah, I feel like she doesn't want that either.
Speaker 3It's like did you guys see? Yeah, so Belichick coaches down in North Carolina, now college football. Yes, I watched the first half of that game.
Speaker 3So he played Monday. They did not Like they scored a TD on the touchdown on the opening possession, that they had the ball and the first person they showed in the crowd was his girlfriend. It was like Jordan Hudson, who's very popular now, or like Controversial yeah, controversial online. It's just like show the player who scored the TD or something. Or like show Belichick, like you don't need to show, like his girlfriend in the stands, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1I mean I do get that, like I do get that point. But to your point too, brett, and I agree, I mean obviously she's not the one who's controlling if she's getting shown, but she's going to support her boyfriend. But just curious.
Speaker 3No, I definitely I have. Being Brittany's brother, I have definitely grown up with Taylor Swift in my life, so I'm not like not used to Taylor Swift, so I don't mind her at all, but it's just like, yeah, the constant like showing there in the crowd with like hugging, like Patrick Mahomes wife, who's insufferable, annoying, yeah, very annoying.
Speaker 2It's annoying, yeah, I feel like they gotta leave that shit to Instagram.
Speaker 1Honestly, like the, the users generate their that type of content and like mbc, right game yeah maybe we should wrap up on our nfl and then do some fantasy talk and then talk a little college. But do it. What is your last question on nfl? Yeah, super bowl prediction. What are you? What are you thinking?
Speaker 3okay, I'm gonna say the bills. Sorry, sorry, brittany, love that the bills. Just because I can't pick the chiefs. I'm not picking the chiefs and I'll say the Packers.
Speaker 1Oh, because.
Speaker 3I think they, like I said, they just traded for Micah Parsons, who's one of the best players in the NFL. I think that'll give them a good boost. They have a young team, their quarterback is good, their coach is very good. They play in a hard place to play. Lambeau Field is like the frozen tundra, they call it In the playoffs. It's very hard to play there because it's so cold. I'll say the Packers, then I'll say the Bills, to pick someone to win the Super Bowl, to get it done.
Speaker 1You heard it here first, if that ends up coming true, kyle. We have it on record.
Speaker 3Yes, if that comes true, I'll take credit. If it doesn't.
Speaker 2Sorry, cool. Well, maybe a hot take, because we'll see if the Bills can get it done.
Speaker 3Yes, definitely a story to watch Totally.
Speaker 2I'm rooting for the Chiefs All right, yeah, let's talk fantasy Fantasy. So Kyle and watch. Totally, I'm rooting for the chiefs all right, yeah, let's talk fancy fantasy. So kyle and I have a fantasy draft tonight. So we got to be a little careful about sharing our secrets yes but in terms of like the first round draft picks we can talk about that maybe who are you drafting like? Who are the good first, first couple picks?
Fantasy Football Strategy Tips
Speaker 3yeah, so yeah, like bernie said, I try. I'll try not to give away too many of my secrets. Frank's uncle is looking for a bounce back here Like a family fantasy league. I kind of circled a few players. So there's a lot of good wide receivers at the top of the draft Justin, jefferson, ceedee Lamb, jamar Chase. Jefferson plays for the Vikings, ceedee Lamb plays for the Cowboys and Jamar Chase plays for the Bengals. They're like the three best wide receivers in the NFL. They'll all be top five picks.
Speaker 3I've had all of them on my team, yeah, they're all really good Safe picks if you're in the top half of the first round of your fantasy league. I'll also say Jameer Gibbs, who's the running back for the Lions. He's probably one of the top two running backs in the draft. He's so good because he's good running the ball and then he also catches it out of the backfield.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, that's big.
Speaker 3He gets points kind of both ways. There's also Saquon Barkley. Do you guys know who Saquon is?
Speaker 2Yeah, I'm surprised he's still in the top 10.
Speaker 3Yeah, so he was the best player in the NFL last year. He's half the reason the Eagles like made it to the Super Bowl because he was so good. But I'm a firm believer he's like the number one overall player right now. But I'm a firm believer that, like, if you're the number one overall pick, that's like a bad sign. It's like the last year Christian McCaffrey was and he got hurt after like four games.
Speaker 1He was the number one pick.
Speaker 3Yeah, games he was. Yeah, Jonathan Taylor, like the year before another running back who was like supposed to be the number one player. He got hurt after like four games. So like I, I have a bad omen about like first overall players and like the first overall pick is like the worst pick you can get in the draft because like you don't pick again for like 25 picks.
Speaker 2Yeah who was my arch nemesis, joe mixon don't pick that guy yeah he's like a bad dude well, he also like every year would be on the in the top like five, and like I had him on my fantasy team and he didn't do shit and I was like why is he on the top five? And it like feel you feel like pressure to pick him yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3So those are kind of like the players I'm circling. There's also like like Puka Nakua. Do you guys know Puka Nakua?
Speaker 1No, I've definitely. Yes, I've heard that name.
Speaker 3Yeah, he's on the Rams. He's like the Rams' best wide receiver. He's a Hawaiian, if you couldn't tell, and Malik Babers are both like back half of the first round wide receivers. Well, here's the thing about fantasy.
Speaker 1Oh sorry, no, go ahead. Totally cut you off, kyle. Sorry, but here's the thing. Like I feel like the draft is just part of it. The thing that I always struggle with with fantasy is like I just have literally no idea how to manage a team post the first draft. Like I don't really know what to look out for for the waiver wire, anything like that.
Speaker 3So like any just tips and whatever you were going to finish saying about the draft, like obviously feel free, but I need some no-transcript thing I look out for is, if you look at your team and you have a lot of the same like by weeks, to try and find players in free agency that have different by weeks that look like they have like or have been good or could be good in the next couple weeks. Smart, I kind of try and not have too many players the same bye week, because obviously when they have the same bye week they're not playing. You need to replace them. And also you don't want to drop your good players if they have a bye week and you need to pick someone up, right, right, okay. And then also, I'm usually skeptical of trades because I feel like if someone's offering you a trade, they're trying to like pull one over on you. So, yeah, any trade I also, I would just look into before, just like immediately oh, I know that person's name and accepting it.
Speaker 2I feel like I mean my unsolicited fantasy advice is like, just by watching football you know, like see who the good players are and are, and then you'll know how to pick them. I remember Alvin Kamara when he was a rookie. I just was watching football and I was like, oh, who's this guy in the Saints? He's got a good quarterback, he's got a lot of catches, and then he ended up being the best player. It's all about volume.
Speaker 3How are they going to get the?
Speaker 2ball.
Speaker 3Right the quarterback. Yeah, player throw this. It's all about volume. Yeah, are they gonna get the ball right and I quarterback, yeah. Also, look at, yeah, the team that they have around them, like if they're, if they're the jets like, and you're looking at the jets backup running back like he's probably not gonna be that good because the jets aren't good, but, like the team, if the team's good, they have a good quarterback. Like brittany said, you know it might be. It's probably worth to pick that person up over someone else who's on like a bad team.
Speaker 1Okay, okay, so I'll make sense. I'm checking the waiver wire, I'm watching the teams. I'm making sure I don't have too many on the same by week. Yeah, yes.
Speaker 2Oh, oh. You know what my other like tip is. This is like my C key tip is if you go like into PN Fantasy, there's a section Somehow you can get to most added and dropped players of the week and if you go in that you can see who everyone's picking.
Speaker 3Who's popular to pick up? Yeah?
Speaker 1Brittany Girl, pro tip Love it.
Speaker 3I didn't know that one, Brittany. Thank you.
Speaker 1Yeah, thank you, damn it, Okay, final. Well, anything else on Fantasy.
Speaker 3No, I would just say thing is like I mentioned. Yeah, it's all lock. Obviously, your, your first round pick, could get hurt in the first week, but I would say wide receivers early and then maybe running backs in round three or four, the, the, the good wide receivers this year there's a lot of them that are being the first round, so get them and then worry about running back later that's a good.
Speaker 1That's a good tip, because I feel like I do tend to go running backs.
College Football Teams and Predictions
Speaker 3I feel like they're going to pick up right, they're always the ones that are projected to get the most points, but yeah, like a running back will emerge throughout the season, more so than a wide receiver right heard maybe final thoughts for college.
Speaker 1I feel like college is not maybe the most.
Speaker 2Kristen's favorite topic I do college football.
Speaker 1It's so fun. I'm a little. I just don't know how I feel about them getting paid, whatever. That's a topic for a different day. But just cure, I don't know Whatever, but again topic for a different day. But curious, like any college football teams that you love, don't love, and then like what are you? I? Curious, like any college football teams that you love, don't love, and then like what are you? I mean college playoff predictions who do you think is going to go far this year?
Speaker 3Yeah, I I know we don't have to get into the whole discussion because there's a lot, but I do like that they do get paid Cause I feel like it makes I mean better, like the there's a lot of more parody in the league rather than like alabama being just like getting all the best players now that these teams can pay them. Like, yeah, it spreads out the talent pool. But favorite teams I like is and sorry, kristin, my favorite team probably is south carolina university, south carolina um clinton rival.
Speaker 2Yeah, this is always a debate at Christmas or whatever, because our cousin Davis went to South Carolina. I visited him and had the best time of his life.
Speaker 3I visited him when I was a senior in high school. It was very fun, so I've been a Gamecocks fan since we went. My friend best friend's brother-in-law goes there now. We went two years ago and visited him. Went to a game. It was awesome, so I'm like a transplant South Carolina fan.
Speaker 1They're good this year.
Speaker 3Yes, they're good this year. They have a good quarterback. They've been getting better, so I feel like I'm hopping on a bandwagon, but whatever.
Speaker 2Don't worry, though, I hold the fort for Clemson on those family debates.
Speaker 3Yeah, and then there's Georgia. Who's the Georgia Bulldogs, their mascot.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, bulldog yeah.
Speaker 3The mascot. So cute it was, it was a fan favorite. And then Texas. I do like the Longhorns too. Those are kind of on my three teams. There's not really we didn't. Northeast, there's not really a team. I could say BC, but their football team is never on TV.
Speaker 1Yeah, well, what do you think of Arch Manning? Texas lost their first game to Ohio State, I know.
Speaker 3Yeah, I feel like it was definitely a hard first game to go into. Obviously, you're going to Ohio State. Who's their stadium seats like 100,000 people. He's never played in a game like that. Their defensive coordinator is also Matt Patricia, ohio State.
Speaker 1Oh, I didn't know that you remember him from the Patriots.
Speaker 3He was the Patriots defensive coordinator for a while. So all the analysts online said that he was like throwing like NFL coverages at him that he's like never seen before and it really confused him. So I give him a pass on the first game. I mean, obviously there's probably a lot of jitters. He didn't. Obviously he didn't play great, but I still think he's it's his first game like starting and he played the number three team in the country on the road, so I can't fault him.
Speaker 2Yeah, give him a break and I think that they won.
Speaker 1I think Ohio State won the whole thing last year.
Speaker 3Yeah, they won the national championship last year and they returned most of their team and they're very good. Yeah, but teams I hate are Ohio State. I hate Ohio State. Their fans are insufferable, just like Jetson and Eagles fans, and their coach, ryan Day, is kind of a clown too. I do hate LSU Kristen. They just beat Clemson on the road. But Ryan Kelly is their coach. I hate him too.
Speaker 3He was the Notre Dame coach no, yeah, he was the Notre Dame coach. He left for LSU. He's been like the LSU was very good. They've been bad the last few years. He's kind of like on the quote-unquote hot seat, but very good. They've been bad the last few years. He's kind of like on the quote-unquote hot seat, but they have a really good team this year. Lsu does their quarterback's very good. Their defense is very good. I used to not like Alabama. Similarly, along the lines of the Chiefs. They're just always very good. But Nick Saban left a couple of years ago and they've been bad, so I don't really dislike them anymore. I feel like they're the Patriots of college football. Dislike them anymore.
Speaker 2I feel like they're the patriots of college football.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's very similar. Yeah, nick Saban and Bill Belichick are very close friends. They coached together when they were like young assistants in the NFL, so they're like, both very similar. And then I do. I know we mentioned it, but I do feel bad for like UNC and Bill Belichick Same that game Monday. I don't know why he's out there, wait, why do? You feel bad for him Because he's like why is he coaching? Why is he coaching in college and UNC? They don't even have a storied football program.
Speaker 3It's not like he's coaching at Alabama or something that's true. He's the best coach in NFL history and he's coaching this bad UNC. True, he's like he's the best coach in NFL history and he like he's coaching this like bad UNC team and like his girlfriend, like everyone's shitting on his girlfriend, and like they kept panning to him on the sidelines and it looked like he like saw a ghost and he like didn't know what to do, like I don to go out like yeah, bad football team, but hey, he wants to do it so salty I feel like we're seeing like the demise of his legacy, like if he had just retired.
Speaker 3A few years ago brady left and won a super bowl. So like that I know. And now everyone thinks like, oh, it must have just been all brady, but they really think so yet.
Speaker 1Like and brett. Like I was watching the beginning of this game because I didn't. I forgot it was on, but I started watching it, the fanfare leading up to this thing was next level Michael, not Michael Jackson. Michael Jordan was there like.
Speaker 3Randy.
Speaker 1Moss was there why?
Speaker 3well you didn't see yeah, they wanted to see like Belichick, like it was it was a big. They had like the marching band, like on the field at the beginning of the game, like Light show.
Speaker 2That's like unfair for the coach, though. Right, I feel like to judge him that much on one game?
Speaker 3No, yeah, obviously, but like TCU. I don't know if you guys saw any of the tweets after they won, but they basically like felt like so disrespected that like everyone just thought UNC was going to win the game and like didn't think about like no one was talking about TCU before the game. It was all about Belichick, like ESPN, all the interviews with Belichick, like so, like what so TCU? Just they won by like 45 points.
Speaker 2It was a slaughter, damn anyhow anyway we got NFL kicking off, so who are the Eagles playing tomorrow?
Speaker 3Eagles play the Cowboys. The Eagles are raising their Super Bowl banner. The Eagles are minus eight.
Speaker 2Okay so. Vegas thinks they're going to win.
Speaker 3Win by how many?
Speaker 2Nine we have to win by nine.
Speaker 3Good job, Kristen. So we'll see if the Eagles can win by nine or if the Cowboys can keep it within nine.
Speaker 1And and Snitches. This is a big game. This is divisional meaning that they're.
Speaker 3This is a divisional game.
Speaker 1Yes, so they're both NFC. And then there's four with yeah, the East, they're East, they're East.
Speaker 2So this is a big game for them. Oh, they're both in the same division.
Speaker 3They're both in the same division. They're both in the same division, yep, same with the Chiefs and the Chargers Friday in Brazil. They're both from the AFC West. Those are important games. Divisional games are important, yeah, and the Chiefs game is weird.
Speaker 2It's only on YouTube.
Speaker 1Oh, how many like platforms do we need to watch football? I can't, it's great. Yeah, but Kyle, this has been so informative.
Speaker 2I'm like all hyped up now I know this is like perfect timing.
Speaker 1I'm like so excited for tomorrow. You best believe I'm going to turn around tonight and tell someone about Michael Parsons. Be like what do?
Speaker 3you think about Michael Parsons? Exactly yeah.
Speaker 1Or hey is Travis Hunter going to be able ways? Yeah, what's the spread on that game? Are you taking the money line? You have the over or the under nailed it this is like I mean just right in there, or so? Yeah, we're so smart. Well, thank you so much for joining us, kyle. This was a great episode. We really appreciate it, you taught us so much and we hope everyone loved it and we're going to be back on Friday with another episode, just a regular degular episode with me and Britt.
