Ready? Hey everyone, welcome back to the latest episode of Snitchen. It's your host Kristen.
SPEAKER_01:And Brittany, get ready for the second best part of your day because today is a very special day. It's October 3rd. It's October 3rd. It is the last world.
SPEAKER_00:It's here. It's finally here. Today's the day. I felt like that Finding Nemo meme of the starfish when it says today's the day, the tank is clean. Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_01:The tank's clean.
SPEAKER_00:I watched too much Disney movies with my children. We should also care. It is your son's second birthday. So just like, you know, happy birthday, baby Tyler.
SPEAKER_01:My son Tyler is also two, so it's an extra special day for me. But it also means that I was only able to listen to the album one time through because, like I said to Kristen when we got home, I was stuck building Playmobil firetrucks and ambulances all morning. Because we were opening presents. So I am, I will, I will share my initial thoughts, but I am prefacing with like don't take this as my I'm not am I on the record. This is not on the record yet. Monday, I will give you my my true true thoughts, but I am, I mean, I can talk about days, even I only listen to it once, so I'm excited.
SPEAKER_00:I feel like it's very important for Brittany to let everyone know that this is like not a fully formed opinion yet, which I understand because we have been through 11 of these album releases, and it's just you never your first listen takes are never your true overall takes. So yeah, never.
unknown:No.
SPEAKER_01:I mean, like I feel like the first time I listened to like Reputation in 1989, I didn't even like them.
SPEAKER_00:I have a vivid memory of being in the car with you and Chris listening to Out of the Woods and being like, What is this?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Out of the Woods truly is one of our all-time favorites now. So it's a great case in point, 100%. Oh my God, though. Okay, so of course, Night Court over here. I did stay up till midnight and listen to the full thing. Um, I have now listened to it like a couple of times through, maybe two or three times. Obsessed. Yeah. I mean, she obviously delivers. Obsessed. Like all the hype. She's been building this up so much, no skips. I could tell right away that there were especially there was a few in the beginning that I was like, oh, this is like crack. Like, I'm gonna be, this is like scratching an itch every time I listen to it. This is gonna be on repeat. Like honestly, there really weren't any on the album, just overall first take listen that I didn't like. Like, truly. I I think that might be a first for me. Like, I've liked every single one. I mean, yeah, I don't think there was another album that I've especially recent years, like Midnights is not my album. So Midnights, I it just isn't my album. Like, there was definitely a lot that I'm like, whatever. TTPD was just a whole different experience given the volume of songs. So, like it was it was almost too hard. There was too many. But this being such a short album, I mean, that's maybe one of my first takeaways. It's like I feel like I flew through this album because it's a lot shorter than her others.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, for sure. Um, I was also laughing because I was like, we should have known that Opalite was like the most the song that was most about Travis because obviously he said that one was his favorite.
SPEAKER_00:I know, I know. I saw well, I was trying to scour the internet this morning because she did all of these press, radio shows, TV shows yesterday. So there's a lot of like interview tea out there. And she said I read somewhere that her dad loves Opalite. That's like the one he's also.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, I saw that too. Saw that too. Okay, so I'm excited for the movie. We're also going to the movie tonight, and we are gonna be like the first ones to see it. We're going at 3 p.m., which like you would think we planned, but like we didn't really. We just have good and swifty karma. So we're gonna be giving you guys our live reactions immediately after the show or the movie. So we will be uploading that right away.
unknown:Yes.
SPEAKER_01:I forgot where Betty on what Eddie's here. Sorry, everyone. Hey Eddie, he doesn't take no for an answer.
SPEAKER_00:I after our last video, I changed my setup. This computer is sitting on like 10 books. I was like, Well, the last video for anyone who watched it, I don't know what I was thinking. I'm like sitting in front of the camera, like camera pointing up my nose. Like, what am I doing? So we need a better angle. I'm just trying to sit a little further back. Totally holding the holding the mic. I'm sitting further back, like we're learning as we go. Yeah. But anywho, yeah. So Opalate, I think, hot take for just first go around listen. Opalate was the one that I was like, I think this is my initial favorite. Immediate. Oh really? I think mine was wishlist. Oh, okay. Yeah, I like wishlist a lot too.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:That was like the first one where I was like, oh, I like this one. And I liked, I liked Honey. Honey's cute. And I liked what was the other one I liked? I wrote it down. Hold on. Oh, canceled. I like canceled.
SPEAKER_00:So yeah, maybe we should uh total we should go through what do you think? Is it yeah?
SPEAKER_01:Oh yeah, we'll do song by song. But do we want to do we want to talk about that map first? Yeah, I think so.
unknown:Okay, all right.
SPEAKER_01:Well, one question before we get into it, hold on. So, like, she obviously really hyped up this album more than I feel like any other album. So, like the bar was high. And like, I don't know about for you, but like I feel like for me, I always get like kind of nervous before a new album comes out. Yeah, like I know it's Taylor, I know it's gonna be great. Like, I just have this nervous feeling. I feel like I didn't feel like that at all this time. I think because she like hyped it up and was like, this is the best album, and then Taylor I trust. But I don't know, the first listen through, I was like, shit, I kind of wish the bar wasn't so high. Oh, okay. I think that's a fair sh I almost wish she was a little toned down in what she said about the album.
SPEAKER_00:Because you did you feel a feeling of disappointment when you listened through first time?
SPEAKER_01:Not disappointment, but it's just like I mean, when Taylor sets a high bar, to me, that's like the highest bar in the world. Yeah, totally. It's hard for anything to like beat that. And yeah, so I don't know. I was kind of like, I wish she, I wish he was a little less hyped so that my bar was a little lower. But you know, a month from now, I will be totally forgetting about that. So that's just my initial thought.
SPEAKER_00:I think that's totally fair. And that's coming just from your pure fandom of wanting this album to be as good as she is saying it's gonna be because she's calling her shot. So totally fair response. I I get that. I didn't feel that way, but yeah, I get how you feel that way. So first track, Fate of Ophelia. Fate of Ophelia, I'm calling it right now first listen, go around, number two favorite.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, wow. I feel like my first listen, I was like, okay, it really reminded me of I can see you. I don't know why. Oh, okay. Yeah, sure. But yeah, I like I liked that one. I like the uh obviously I like the like premise and stuff like that. I'm excited to see the video.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I can't wait to see the video. It's just so catchy. Like it's so catchy. I feel like I've already got it stuck in my head. I love how she talks about like him coming for her, because that is one of the things that really stood out about this relationship was how much he pursued her in it. So I liked how she called that out. But yeah, that one is so catchy.
SPEAKER_01:I feel like I saw something where she references like the phone number on the front chip bracelet. And that is it in that one. Let me look at the lyrics.
SPEAKER_00:We pull that up as we have it going. I didn't I didn't notice that, but maybe. Hold on.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I didn't notice it either, but I like saw it in line.
SPEAKER_00:Well, she says I heard you calling on the megaphone. So that's could definitely be a reference to him shooting a shot on the podcast.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, true. I also feel like only Taylor Swift could make a single called The Fate of Ophelia.
SPEAKER_00:I know. I mean, I get why she made it the single, and this is definitely breaking like her streak of picking singles that I hate because I love this one. Like, yeah, it's so good. Yeah. So that one definitely, like, I'm giving that like a nine or a 10. I love this one. And I love how she says like she pledged, I think this is the one. I'm trying to find it, but I I won't if it's gonna take me too long. But I feel like she was talking about in this one, she pledged allegiance to herself before he came to save her. Yeah. But yeah, anyway, so that one's a great one. Number two, Elizabeth Taylor. What did you think about this?
SPEAKER_01:Honestly, I don't I didn't like not like this one, but I feel like that this was probably my weakest one the first time through. I agree with you. That's almost my take exactly. Yeah. I feel like the storyline is like tired. You did what do you mean? It's very similar to like Clara Beau. I don't know. I just feel like it's like not that interesting of a song, except for others.
SPEAKER_00:I feel like it's one of those ones where just by referencing anybody, it's kind of it gets a little bit of buzz or a little hype because you're like, oh, what's this about? But I do understand the parallel because like obviously Elizabeth Taylor, known for all of her failed relationships. So I kind of like how she I read somewhere that, and I didn't pick this up on my own. When I first listened to it, I was kind of like, who is she like talking to? Like what? I don't know. It it seems like she's talking to Elizabeth Taylor. Like, do you think that this one's work out kind of thing? Yeah. Yeah. So I kind of liked that. And I like when she does those parallels to other people. It the music on this one, though, in general, was my least favorite.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I feel like this one just kind of didn't stick out for me. I didn't hate it, but like, right at first pass, that's probably the one I would skip.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah.
unknown:Elizabeth Taylor.
SPEAKER_00:So, okay, number three, Opalite. We've already said, Oh fun. I just want to dance around to this song. It's so happy. Love it. Early number one.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I feel like it's very Travis. Hold on. My friend Christiana, who you guys know, said that. Oh, yeah, there was actually a fourth wing reference in Opalite. Oh, hit me. Yeah. She says, You were dancing through the lightning strike, sleeping in the onyx night, or sleepless in the onyx night. So, I mean, if you've read, it's very definitely not overt, but if you've read Fourth Wing, Lightning Strikes, Lightning is her like talent or whatever, her magic, and Onyx, like Onyx Storm is the third book, and that's what she always like refers to her uh boyfriend as. I forget to say Zaydan. Because he has Onyx eyes. So interestingly that Taylor reads the same books as us. She reads the same books.
SPEAKER_00:She could be in our book club. Yeah. I love that. I wonder what court Taylor would be in if she was if I mean I know it's a different thing. She'd be at night. Yeah, she'd be at night. She'd be hanging with me. Yeah. Okay. What about number four, father figure?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah. I kind of forget this one. I mean, this one, it's it's it's about like the music industry or something, right? Like screwed braun and Scott Borshetta.
SPEAKER_00:It's definitely giving Scott Borshetta vibes. Basically, like you are my father figure. And she does the very classic Taylor thing where she kind of like flips it at the end. You know how like she'll do like the first two verses are like talking about him, and then at the end it's like I'm your father or whatever. So yeah, I not one that this one's another one that's like probably lower on the totem pole for me. But it's cool. I love when she does that, when she like kind of flips something at the end of a song. Very Taylor. Very Taylor. She's, I mean, this is just another diss track for Scott Borshetta. Like, Scott Borshetta, just keep catching those strays. I can't imagine it's about anybody else.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, no, I mean it's definitely about him.
SPEAKER_00:Definitely about him. I feel like Father Figure has had kind of a resurgence this year after that after that movie Baby Girl with Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickerson. There's like a scene where he dances to Father Figure and it was kind of like trending online after that.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, interesting. Yeah, it's a George Michaels song, right?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Um yeah, that's kinda cool. I like how she, yeah, referenced like an old song too. Very Taylor. Totally. Um, but yeah, I don't even really remember how this one went, if I'm being perfectly honest.
SPEAKER_00:No, that's totally fair. We're on it.
SPEAKER_01:So it didn't really so meaning it didn't stand out to me. I should show my Swifty sweatshirt.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, I love it. I know I wore orange today for I have zero orange. Well, orange has been a big color in my life, so yeah, you're sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01:No, nothing. That was it.
SPEAKER_00:Track five? Track five, okay, a little different than a lot of the other ones on this album.
unknown:Agree.
SPEAKER_01:Agree. And I'm okay with that. Yeah, no, me too. Slower. I would say it's probably my top like four first half.
SPEAKER_00:Not my top, no, it's not for me, but I like it. Like it's solid, solid. Like, yeah. I would say top half, maybe. Really about, I'm guessing, like just being devoted, which isn't surprising. She just got engaged. Obviously, like it could be seen that her track five, for anyone who might not know, track five is historically her most personal emotional song on her albums. And yeah, I'm not surprised that this one would be about like, you know, taking a vow, never leaving someone, given that she just got engaged to Travis.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, I see, I was thinking it was more about like her vow like to her fans and stuff, saying, like, I'm not gonna like, you know, lose my mind and like I know I have a responsibility to you. I love that. No. Okay, well then I well, and like eldest daughter resonates with me because obviously I'm an eldest daughter. And you know what? I appreciate that Taylor is making it known that it sucks being the oldest, and you do have more responsibility. There's really nothing good about being the oldest. I have said this before. Once you're past the age of like 10, it's like you have to do everything first, you have the most rules, blah, blah, blah. So I appreciate that Taylor is calling that out.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I mean, I do firmly stand with you that I think youngest sibling living is the way to go. Where it's at. It's where it's at. Only downside, though, I will say, is that oldest siblings are typically idolized by their younger siblings, even if they don't know it. And they don't have anyone, there's no like pressure to live up to. So that is a plus. Just trying to see a silver lining there, but I get it. Oldest sibling living is the hardest.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And it's different when you're two younger brothers. Sure.
SPEAKER_01:Idolizing me.
SPEAKER_00:Baby K, weigh in. Yeah. I could see why you think that though, because like I'm never gonna break that bow. She talks in the beginning about how everyone's just like a hater online. So true. The trolls. And you know, it is kind of like sad when she's saying like every joke's just trolling and memes, apathy is hot. So true, Taylor.
SPEAKER_01:So oh, she also said she her situation is she's a permanent uniqueness. I was like, oh, I love that. I love that. Yes, yes. And I love how like the chorus, it's like, I'm not a bad bitch, I'm not savage, or something like this. Isn't savage, something like that. Yeah, I don't know. I just felt like it was it was like almost more of a nod to upholding her promise to her fans.
SPEAKER_00:No, I could totally see that. That's a great take.
SPEAKER_01:But yeah, let's first listen through, so we'll see.
SPEAKER_00:First lesson through, we'll see. I like it. Definitely slower, definitely a different sound uh than the rest of the album, but a good one. Next one. So this is another thing that Taylor loves to do. She loves to throw a red herring and then totally lead us astray. So next song is Ruin the Friendship. Definitely one yes, very Taylor song. Hugo, what do you think?
SPEAKER_01:I liked this one. I thought it was, I liked how, yeah, Ruin the Friend. It was really about like saying, like, I wish I ruined the friendship with a boy and like kissed him, right?
SPEAKER_00:You know who I was thinking it might be about? Is who she wrote Forever Winter about, her friend who passed.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, wait. Okay, yeah. So I was gonna ask you, I didn't get that it was someone who passed away, but then I like Googled, like, can you give me a blurb on every song about Life with Showgirl from AI? And it said it was about a song that passed. I mean, a friend that passed. And I was like, oh, I think you're right.
SPEAKER_00:That was when I first listened to it, that was what my impression was. Because like the first at first, honestly, it was funny. I did not like Ruin the Friendship, the first two verses. I remember being like, eh, this is whatever. Cause they're talking about high school. It just seemed a little like I just was kind of, I just wasn't into it. And then tired. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And a little out of touch also, I felt like some of the verses just felt, but but I don't, but like, I don't think any of that anymore. Because then, yeah, the second half of the song, she says, I got the call from Abigail that like it got the bad news. And it ends with the message of like live for today. Just like her advice is ruin the friendship, ask the hard question, like go for it, because you never know, like life is short type of deal. And it just totally hit me out of left field. Like that was not what I was expecting at all. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And like I was, it was so emotional at the, you know, at the end of that. And I that was my first thought. I said, I think it's probably about the same person. She wrote on red vault track, she has a song called Forever Winter about someone who passed away at a young age who is her friend. And she's saying, you know, Forever Winter, if you go. I think it's probably the same person.
SPEAKER_01:Damn, Sanaye. Heard it here first.
SPEAKER_00:Heard it here first. Yeah. Yeah. So that one just I think I really liked it because of like the change of what it meant ultimately. And like we said, Taylor loves to throw out. I mean, she did the same thing with actually romantic, which we'll get to, but like ruin the friendship, get so many people talking. She's so smart. Like her marketing brain.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I don't even think she purposely does it for marketing a lot of the time. I think that she just has like a depth-level brain.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, I think it's both. I think she does she knows, like, she gets everyone talking, and then it's like, nope, fool Joe. Like, she does that all the time.
SPEAKER_01:Well, think of her first single was Tim McGraw.
SPEAKER_00:I know.
SPEAKER_01:She's like the first person to do that.
SPEAKER_00:100%.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, Ruin the Friendship gave me Midnight Rain vibes. Um, oh yeah. I feel like where it is in the album, and because it seems like it's about something that was like 20 years ago, or you know, like really long time ago.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, next one is actually romantic. She did it again.
SPEAKER_01:Very Taylor. This is very Taylor.
SPEAKER_00:A hundred years.
SPEAKER_01:I kinda love this one. I loved hearing her. Well, okay, so then I read it was about potentially about Charlie XCX, um, which yeah, I feel like I didn't get that deep into it, but love hearing her talk about like someone else writing a song about her. Yeah. So like, you know, that's her thing. So I feel like that was so Taylor, and that's like a new perspective for her.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Um, yeah, I just love how like I was convinced that this one was gonna be about Travis and it's about Charlie XX, which I mean, it seems like that's a pretty like agreed upon theory. Okay, so it is.
SPEAKER_01:I don't know. Wasn't Charlie XX one of her openers? We saw her.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. But she was on the rep tour umilla cabello. Well, I guess so. Fun fact, Charlie XX married the drummer or guitarist, one of the musicians in the 1975. So she, her husband is obviously bandmates with Matt Healy. So at one point in the song, she says something like, You told my ex that you were glad he ghosted me. Um, and I guess like Charlie XX has like shaded Taylor in the press. So obviously, our girl, you know, no one loves no, no one's better at revenge. She loves a grudge and she's not gonna not say it.
SPEAKER_01:So who's afraid a little old me? You should be Charlie XX. That was stupid. She literally told you to be afraid.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So I love that one too. It's a great one. And then you said wishlist is your early fave.
SPEAKER_01:I would say, yeah. My first, like that was the first one. I was like, ooh, I really like this one's my favorite, I think, so far. I can't remember how it goes right now, but I I do love that it was. I mean, I I mean, it's like a cool storyline, but also not surprising. But it's like, yeah, a lot about how like the material things, like all she really wants is to be with assumingly Travis and have a bunch of kids and like have a basketball net in their house and yet have like a normal life, which I love that for her.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I like it. I like how she has the dollar signs in the title, and it's actually not about anything monetary at all. It's just, yeah, the simple life. She just wants to settle down now that she's found the love of her life. We're so happy for that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it's a great message, great message. And I would totally agree.
unknown:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:And then the next one's getting a lot of buzz because it's very, it's very raunchy or like explicit for Taylor. She's definitely done more like, you know, mature music, dress is a great example as she's gotten older. But wood is much more just like sexual. So very Sabrina coded. I was kind of thinking, I'm like, I think Sabrina might have rubbed off, rubbed off on her a little bit with that. Totally. Also, this was one of the ones where I did actually make a note of this because when I first listened to it, I was like, oh, this reminds me of the Jackson Five, I want you back. And like the music. And don't you love when you have a thought? And then literally this morning, when I was, you know, just online looking things up about the album, that was a reference. It was like people thought that this was it sounded like Jackson Five. And I was like, I love that, you know? Yeah, so much validation.
SPEAKER_02:Totally.
SPEAKER_01:Totally. I'm like reading the lyrics on this one because I can't really remember it.
SPEAKER_00:It's it's like funky and it's fun. She talks about she's talking about like his, I don't know, like his manhood, she says, basically. And yeah, let me pull it up too.
SPEAKER_01:It feels like this one, I mean Yeah, I feel like this one, I mean, I don't know. I feel like it was like kind of an average one. It was middle of the road for me. I like that really stands out as the like, you know, controversy part of it.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Like he says, like she says, like, forgive me, it sounds cocky. He emotized me, opened my eyes, redwood tree. It ain't hard to see that his love was the key that opened my thighs. She says something else about there's other parts in this album. Maybe it wasn't this song, I thought it was, where she says, like she definitely references him like explicitly. Shoot, I'm not gonna be able to find it now.
SPEAKER_01:Well, he says she says new heights. In that song? Yeah. Let me find it in here. Yeah, she says new heights of manhood. Yeah. And baby, I'll admit I've been a little superstitious. The curse on me was broken by your magic wand. Seems to be that you and me, we make our own lock new heights of manhood. I ain't got a knock on wood.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, like a tough day to be Joe Alwyn or Matt Healy. I mean, yeah, always a tough day to be them. Yeah, always a tough day to be them. I like the play on words with this, how she's talking about her superstition and like how she doesn't, yeah, she doesn't need luck anymore. I love that. Yeah. Yeah. That was good. Okay, three more. Cancelled. Canceled? Can we talk about canceled? Yes. Cancelled slaps.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I feel like it's I love the like loyalty aspect of it with like friends, you know what I mean? It's like go like everyone has the same scars, and you know, you can find solace with your your fellow friends who have been canceled for one thing or another, because everyone's been canceled at some point.
SPEAKER_00:Definitely rep coded. I mean, I think this is a direct response to the Blake Lively of it all. That's that was my first thought. I think like she is making a statement about where she stands with this, and she stands with Blake.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, yeah, that's what so they're not fighting.
SPEAKER_00:That's my that's my interpretation of this song. There's been so much speculation. Are they friends? Are they not? And to me, this is her directly saying, I stand with her, I have the same scars as her, and I get what it's like to be canceled, and that's my girl. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I I mean that makes more sense to me. I don't think she would make a song so quickly about it being like against Blake Lively.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I mean, yeah. And then the last two, honey, you like honey.
SPEAKER_01:I like honey, yeah. I would say that's like top three or four for me after the first time.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I like honey too. It's cute. Just like another, like she hasn't lost her, even though there's so much production and like upbeat, like catchy stuff in this album, but she hasn't lost her Taylor stuff, like her play on words, you know. Just when everyone's calling me sweethearts, passive passive aggressive. But when you say it, you know, it's it's not that way because you mean it. And it's just like it's just another clever like she's been like that literally since her first album. Forever. It's like it just it never goes away. You can tell the ones that are just so her, you know, and like honey is definitely such a tailor song. Yeah, agree. Yeah, and then last one, Life of a Showgirl featuring Sabrina Carpenter. This one's cute too. I mean, I loved the end of this one. What's the end of this one?
SPEAKER_01:It like ended with like her, like a clip from her saying like thank you and good night or whatever from the hours tour. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's like the end of the album. Totally. I liked this one. I I mean, it was kind of what I thought it would be. I at the beginning, I thought Sabrita Carpenter was just gonna do like the thing, like the background voice, like Mary Morris and stuff from Lena Delray. And I was like, no, Taylor, no, no. Why did she do that? But then she gave Selena a part. So thanks for that. Um, but yeah, I liked that one.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I like that one too. Yeah, I mean, it's a big day. It's here. This is gonna be on repeat for the rest of the day. Like Brittany said, we're going to the show three. I heard it's gonna be like secret session style. She's gonna give background into every song and like kind of the origin of it all, which can't wait. We are gonna, we're just so excited. But yeah, no, like 89 minutes.
SPEAKER_01:It's 89 minutes, obviously, 1990.
SPEAKER_00:Obviously.
SPEAKER_01:And the album's what 41 minutes? So there's at least double at least like 40 minutes of other content.
SPEAKER_00:Yes. Hopefully that's like her talking. I know, I hope so. Yeah, and obviously, we'll be back on Monday with Gina to talk more about it. There's gonna be so much to dissect, so much stuff that we don't need to know about that's gonna come out over the tip of the iceberg here. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But first, go around, like literally, I'm calling this an A plus album. I I can already tell I love it. There's it's just so catchy, like our Do you think it's better than 1989?
SPEAKER_01:Ooh, hard to say. I mean, it's not really a fair question because I feel like at this point, it's like there are so many memories wrapped up with the albums, too. It's hard to say your favorite because it's like not just straight on the music.
SPEAKER_00:But if it's just straight on the music, it's I mean, I would say it definitely has like the potential to be a 1989 or better for me. It definitely has the potential.
SPEAKER_01:I know. Next time I listen through, I want to think about like what I think the next single will be.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah. I hope it's Opalite. I because it's just so it's so happy. It's just so happy. Yeah. Should we do like our initial? We'll post these and then we're gonna ask for people's feedback on our Instagram. We want to hear from you guys about what your favorites are. So we're gonna, you know, ask what your initial favorite songs are, favorite lyrics, read some of those out on Monday. So definitely pay attention to our Instagram channel today. Uh, we'll put some of those out. But should we say our top three just off first listen?
SPEAKER_01:I guess, but please don't hold me to this.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, no, this is first listen. Just first listen. These can change.
SPEAKER_01:I wonder what I would have said like for like other albums. Oh, that's a good question.
SPEAKER_00:Probably would have been totally different. Well, you go first. Okay. I would say opalite, fate of Ophelia, and then probably canceled are I would say oh canceled or would. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go canceled. So those are my top three to start.
SPEAKER_01:I think mine mine, wishless and canceled, and then either eldest daughter or honey, I think. I have to hear them again. Okay. Maybe honey, I guess, just for shits. Sure. Actually, no, maybe eldest daughter because I like the track five and because I like the meaning of it. Yeah, you were late. Yeah, I really sucks being an eldest daughter. Thanks, Taylor, for acknowledging that. But yeah, snitches, you guys got some homework. I got a ton of homework to do this weekend. We're gonna have to listen and uh we want to hear from you. We want to hear about what you guys favorites, least favorites, skips, ones you want to hear live, what you think the next cycle is gonna be. Like Kristen said, we'll post it on social and then we will talk about it on Monday.
SPEAKER_02:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:The only other piece of news that we have for today is Dancing with the Stars recap. We're bringing it to you every Friday, and this was week three. And yeah, we'll wrap up with this, and then you know, we'll be well on our way to the movie theater later this afternoon. What did you think of this week's stances? It was TikTok night. I hated TikTok night.
SPEAKER_01:I thought the song sucked. Oh I thought it was so cringy. ABC, you're so cringy talking about TikTok. Like that was just, I was like, this is classic network television, like from 20 years ago. So I hated TikTok night. Um, I'm trying to think whose ones I liked. Loved the Erwin Kid, of course. Yeah, his Robert. Robert, yeah. I just feel like he seems like he's having so much fun.
SPEAKER_00:He is so fun to watch. He was okay. So I think the thing with him is that like first week he came out with such a bang. Didn't love last week as much. I honestly didn't love the dance as much this week, but like he's still ranked so high for me because to your point, he's just so happy and yeah, so genuine. Oh my God, like this guy is living his best life. He had a straight magic mic moment when he did like a he ripped his shirt off and was selling it. I was like, Robert, shit.
SPEAKER_01:And I loved how they showed him. I mean, like, obviously, I love this, like that he loves animals and like his animal side. And they showed him, like, I mean, I don't want to touch a crocodile, but like, you know, good for him. That's his passion. But I love that.
SPEAKER_00:Do you know that they said he has the most TikTok followers of anyone on the cast?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah. I think I I yeah, I feel like I heard them say that. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_00:That's shocking to me. I thought for sure Alex Earl would have more, but no, I went and looked. She has like 7.something million. He has 9.4. Really? 9.4. Yeah. I might have to. Is he like really being in Australia or something? I guess so. I don't know. But yeah, he's he was definitely a top one for me. I think my favorite dance of the night was Whitney and Mark. They did the, I think it was Asamba to She had like those pants.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:She kind of annoys me. Oh, really? Why? I just think she's like, I don't know, she seems a little like full of herself and I don't know. Thirsty.
SPEAKER_00:I love her dances. Like I want them to make the final. Yeah. And I love Mark Ballis. So yeah, I thought that one was great. Who else did we have here? Oh, another one that they just I feel like they had almost the opposite of the Robert Irwin effect in the sense of their first week dance was a little under the radar and they've been climbing every week. Jordan and Ezra, they did a dance to anxiety. Ezra kind of played the role of anxiety in the dance, which I love. I love when they do that. Yeah. I thought the dance was great.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I mean, I feel like she's so talented that there's no reason it shouldn't be. I mean, she's an Olympic gymnast. I know, I know, yeah, yeah. So, but yeah, I liked Thurs too. I thought she was great. I thought that, I mean, I know the Sith Army girl got eliminated, but I was like, dude, you can't like dance to your own song. Like, that's like you should be knocked down a point for that.
SPEAKER_00:Like, well, the thing is, dancing to your own song, I mean, how many times have you danced that song? Exactly. I would have thought that she would be way sharper. She to me felt she it did not feel sharp. It did not feel like powerful. I was kind of like, okay, it's okay. But then to get eliminated while your bandmates were in the audience, like yeah. Ouch. She was definitely surprised too. Oh, yeah. She was definitely surprised. I mean, I think her partner was, I think everyone was. I thought, I think everyone assumed Andy would go home that week. And he, his personality is like, he's kind of like a Robert Irwin in the sense that his personality, I think, is really shining through on this show. And people want to see him stick around. He did Northern Attitude by Noah Khan. They had that moment where he took the camera and kind of spun it around as his like aha moment. So cute. Really, really cute.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I like him too. And I like his partner. She seems like she's like genuinely happy for him and they work really well together.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. And she always gets that type of partner, someone who's not like older. Yeah. But I heard a rumor, it's because she choreographs like the tour. She does the Dancing with the Stars tour, a lot of that choreography. So she kind of gets partnered with people who don't make it very far, and then she kind of focuses on that. I read that like once, which makes sense to me because she always has those types of partners. So but yeah. Makes sense. Yeah. I thought Alex Earl's dance was great. I thought I loved hers. Loved her.
SPEAKER_01:It seems like she was, I feel like she had a lot of pressure because she's like the TikTok girl of all of them. Even though is she famous for like dances? I feel like she's more famous for like getting ready and stuff. Like Charlie DiMilio, she's more of like the dance one, right?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Alex, I yes, Alex Earl definitely blew up, not because of dancing, because she does like the get readies with me and she's just always taping herself and her personality. Um, so yeah, it's definitely different. I liked her outfit. Yeah, me too. I think the thing with this season is just that like everyone's pretty good. Like there's not, I really don't think that there's that many dances or dancers that are that bad. Like Andy is an obvious one, but I think my like least favorite besides him is Riley and Scott, the guy from Pentatonics. They did like Jenny. They did, it was very like it was cute. It was very high energy.
SPEAKER_01:I don't even remember who that was. What is it? What's their name?
SPEAKER_00:It's Scott and it's Scott Hoying, I think. H-O-Y-I-N-G, and then Riley Arnold. I love Riley. She's so great. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, who is this guy, Scott Hoying? What's he famous for?
SPEAKER_00:He was in that a cappella group that was really big, Pentatonics. Oh, I don't know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I liked him though. It seemed like he tried hard, and I got there, like choreographing was good.
SPEAKER_00:The only other one that I feel like I need to talk to you about, Dylan Efron's.
SPEAKER_01:What was his song again? I don't even remember.
SPEAKER_00:Yukon.
SPEAKER_01:Oh yes. Oh yes, yes, yes. How could I forget?
SPEAKER_00:How could you forget? What did you think of that dance? Do you remember?
SPEAKER_01:Kinda. I don't really remember it. For some reason, I feel like it was cringy, but the girl was really good.
SPEAKER_00:So people were like losing their minds over it. They thought it was so great. I think the dance was very like sensual. They looked great together. Yeah. But yes, it was all Daniela is like one of the best dancers on the show, just on her own accord. She was dancing a lot around him and she was killing it. Like killing it. Also, her outfit was fire. I didn't think his dancing was particularly great, but people like the overall takeaway was like, oh my God, he's gotten so much better. He's so good. It's like yes. It's like, no, yeah. He's better, but she makes him look good. But damn, the chemistry, like, I was like, whoo. I mean, oh yeah. Her husband is a dancer on the show, so he gets it. But if I was Dylan Efron's girlfriend, I would Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:This is reminding me literally of that same thought. I was like, I have to ask Kristen, like, do they ever get together? Like the pairs? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Like who?
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:Let me think. Let me think. Well, so last season, Gleb and Brooke Snater, they were together.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yep. That ended very poorly. Gleb's the worst. I don't want him and Hilaria to do well, even though she's good. Who's he with? Hilaria Baldwin. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I thought hers was I thought they gave her more credit than she deserved.
SPEAKER_00:No, I hear that. I mean, I just don't like them anyway. So I want them to go home. Yeah. But then, like a lot of people, so back in the day, like I remember certain couples that I liked when I was younger. Like, this is really old, but Mark Ballas, like he got together with Sabrina. Oh, she was from Cheetah Girls. Oh my god, I loved them. Oh, I know. Is it the blonde one? Yes.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, that's so funny. They were so on it.
SPEAKER_00:Mark, yeah, he's on it. He's Whitney's partner. Yeah, okay. Like Derek Huff had a couple that he they got together with. Alan Burst, Alan, my guy Alan, he's now with Emma, Andy's partner, but he was dating. Shoot, I can't remember. I can pick Alexis something was his partner. So yeah, they they they date, it happens for sure. Yeah. And then a lot of the pros date each other. It makes sense.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. I I got that vibe too from them though. I was like, damn, there's like chemistry here. I didn't know she was married.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Her husband's Danielle is Tapanga's partner.
SPEAKER_01:Uh okay, okay. Yeah. She did well too. I mean, I feel like hers was like average. I don't yeah, it's hard. I feel like a lot of them are very similar. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Well, also, like I would imagine, just to the chemistry point, it'd be hard to not like if you have a crush on your partner, how do you not like fall in love with them? You're doing these sensual dances where you're like literally it's you know, it's not surprising that they get together.
SPEAKER_01:And don't they practice for like four hours a day every day or something? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, I can totally see how that would happen. Totally.
SPEAKER_00:Um, but yeah, I still Robert, Whitney, Ezra, and Jordan, those are like my front runners. And this season is got some really good competition. So I'm here for it. It is good.
SPEAKER_01:I will say I was not into Charlie DiMilio. Heard. Same. Like she should not have been a testant in the show.
SPEAKER_00:That when we were talking last last time we talked about dancing with the stars, when we were saying how that's a criticism of the show is that they have these people that are just so good, it's like the competition, it's not fair. That's exactly it. Her season, I think her the runner up was Gabby Winley, who was on The Batch Threat. She be she kind of blew up this year with traitors. She's very funny. Gabby was a great dancer, like she was very, very good. And she had no shot against Charlie. So yeah, I hear you.
SPEAKER_01:I know. Like I said last time, like I get it for the sake of like it makes better TV, but at the same time, like, I don't know. I feel like the show is more interesting if it's people who don't have a dance background.
SPEAKER_00:For sure. Agree. I totally agree.
SPEAKER_01:I wasn't into her. I was like, oh my cringy. TikTok. Like, wow, that's over. And they're like, like, what does TikTok mean to you? I was like, oh my God. This is so cringy.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Well, I saw an interesting take about that, though, is that they like they spent so much time like talking about TikTok, but that because their generation, their audience is kind of split now, to split between like Gen Zers and then like boomers, that they're like explaining it to the boomers. I don't know. I don't know if that's true, but I was like, oh, I guess that kind of makes sense.
SPEAKER_01:But yeah, it's just like a it's a reminder for everyone that old people watch this show.
SPEAKER_00:Uh hard. Yeah. No, that's true. But next week is my favorite week. It's or I think one of my favorites is Disney week.
SPEAKER_01:Oh yeah, I know. I saw that. That that's exciting. So do they always do Disney?
SPEAKER_00:They have definitely recently.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, because that's what they said. It was like A B, because Disney is owns ABC or whatever. Yeah. So it seemed like they always do Disney night. But yeah, that'll be fun. I'm excited for that. I know. Than TikTok one. Yeah. Yeah. There was only Do they ever do like one artist or something? Like what uh what other themes do they do? Good question.
SPEAKER_00:They've done like last year they did movie themes. They do that's a really good question. I think that they have done that at theme weeks.
SPEAKER_01:Do they ever do like, you know, pop night or punk night or something?
SPEAKER_00:They always do how they always do Halloween night. Oh, cool. What were you gonna say? Um I uh what was I gonna say?
SPEAKER_02:I have to think of it again.
SPEAKER_00:I'm seeing here they do, yeah, so Disney night, Halloween night are annual. And then the new one was TikTok, dedication night. Oh, they do dedication night, yeah, where they they dedicate a dance to people in their lives. We heard one hit one hit wonder night. They yep, there there have been single musicians or bands. There was a Prince Knight, Broadway, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, Broadway, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_00:That's a good one.
SPEAKER_01:Do Taylor do a Taylor night. Oh, that pretty much. I actually might have heard though that was there a Taylor one? I feel like I remember people telling talking about it to me. Or maybe just like people were like dancing to her or something. I remember what I was gonna say before. I thought it was so interesting how they said that I think it was Alex Errol's part, like dancing to pop music is like one of the hardest. I would have never thought that.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that's I do you remember that?
SPEAKER_01:Because you have to be so precise and stuff.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I was like, oh, never would have thought that. That makes sense. I could see it. Um, they did do Taylor Swift Night, they did it in 2023 for season 32. Some of the songs, You Belong with Me, Cruel Summer. There was a tango to Don't Blame Me. Oh, that's cool. That would have been sick. Yeah. What else? I'm trying to see. It's not like showing. But yeah, Cruel Summer. Uh let's see, let's see, let's see. Oh, love story. Yep, sure. Oh, that opened with like a like a pro dance. You belong with me. I already said that. Well, I blind space. Don't blame me. Delicate. Look what you made me do. An Argentine tango. That makes sense. It's very fierce. They did, oh, a quick step, which is you know, one of those like high-energy ones, quick feet, quick footwork. That was Alex's Alex Earl's with Quick Step. Yep, yep. They that was to paper rings. Oh, I could see that. Like, I'm not a big fan of that song. Oh, okay. And then there was a oh, like a pro dance to style. Oh my god. And then there was Lover, Shake It Off, Lavender Haze.
SPEAKER_02:Okay. All right.
SPEAKER_00:Some good picks. Good picks. Well, that's all time we have for today. Snitches, thanks so much for listening in with us. We hope everyone has a wonderful Life of a Showgirl TS12 weekend, baby. We are gonna be it's gonna be so great.
SPEAKER_01:It is gonna be so great. Um also, we can't forget about our book club announcement. I think we posted it, but also in case you missed it, our next book club is gonna be Untamed by Glenn and Doyle, right? Yep. Yeah. And we're gonna have Steph back on, who you guys have met, and Gina. Steph is Gina's best friend from college, so it will be an awesome episode. But yes, Steph is a therapist, and when she came on, she recommended a handful of books just about, you know, like mental health and and empowerment and women and stuff like that. So we're picking one of those and we're gonna read it. So I'm excited for this one because I feel like it will be good, even if you didn't read it, it will be an interesting conversation.
SPEAKER_00:1,000% agreed. So stay tuned for that, and it'll be on Halloween. Yes, stay tuned for that. Yeah, and everyone have a great weekend. Thanks so much, everyone. Uh talk to later.
SPEAKER_01:Remember to uh tune in right at 4 30, probably right around there. We'll be going live with our reactions to the movie. So if you want the inside scoop, follow us on TikTok and Instagram at snitching pod and tell everyone you know about us. And enjoy everyone listening to Life of a Showgirl.
