The One Eyed Watchlist
The One-Eyed Watchlist highlights players whose games translate beyond box scores and mixtapes. Each feature breaks down why a player impacts winning — defense, effort, decision-making, physicality, and role acceptance — and where their game realistically fits at the next level. This is not a ranking. It’s proof of evaluation.

Hello, everyone. This is one of those interviews that, man, I am just so excited. We got a state champion here. We got not only that, one of the hottest names in Houston. One of the juniors that was up for the guy Morris, Guy Lewis Award, and a name popping up on recruiting radars all over. Landon, I really appreciate you being here today. Appreciate you. I'm glad to be here too. Thanks for the opportunity. Oh yeah, man. Hey, you just came off 35-1, state championship season. What do you felt like proved? What did you prove to yourself this year?
SPEAKER_00Um, I felt like I proved my ability to like definitely lead a team for sure. Like coming in, like I didn't know, I didn't really didn't know none of these guys, never played with them. But I came in, definitely made an impact, and really just uh I had a leadership role like from the first day, and really just I feel like I proved to myself that I'm able to lead a team, definitely.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was fortunate enough, man, to uh I guess it was Thanksgiving break. Got the coming out and watch, you know. Hey, you know, at 6'8, you know, a lot of guys rely just on size, but what do you think that actually separates you from those guys?
SPEAKER_00Um I feel like my ability to catch and shoot, definitely create a shot. Um, I'm very versatile and I can jump at 6'8. So I don't feel like I don't rely on my size really at all. Really just I can showcase my game in other ways. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01One of the things that, you know, as an evaluator, uh that really jumps out off the page for me is how well you run the floor. Like you you're okay being in space. We call it being a magnet, like when you just always close to people, you get out in space. Um, you know, I mean, and and we'll talk about it, but you but you block the shots, you know, and and you're always active communicating. Um, you know, when I watch you, I see athletic upside, but what part of the game do you trust the most right now outside of the athleticism?
SPEAKER_00I'll say just my IQ on the floor. Like I know how to play, like really, like even athleticism or without athleticism, I know how to play like basketball. So I could just impact the game just like with my mind and knowing being in the right spots to like score and stuff like that. So I'd say that.
SPEAKER_01You know, what's one habit you built that you know translates to the next level?
SPEAKER_00I'd say my work ethic for sure. Like you gotta have a high work ethic at the next level. And I'm doing 6 a.m. workouts pretty much five days a week. So I'd say definitely my work ethic, my work ethic.
SPEAKER_01It's good stuff, man. And and you know, um that work you're doing with JL3, you know, you're in a good situation there. Uh mentorship. Um, you know, what do you feel uh winning basketball? All right, what made this group different than anyone else in the playoffs?
SPEAKER_00Just the way like we bonded together. I'll say our brotherhood for sure. Just we used to read Bible verses, but we had like a whole we had a whole team uh message pretty much that we would read before every game. We had book study, just like the countless like hours we put into just out even outside of basketball, like just putting like time together as a team on and off the court. I'll say it was just a different type of bond. I'd say that's definitely what helped us.
SPEAKER_01You know, uh we're gonna move on to uh skill and translation, but I gotta give a shout out to our sponsors, MD Consulting. You know, they get they do a lot of the back end work and let me get out here and just talk to people. So I appreciate MD Consulting. You know, um you you've shown flashes this year, turnaround jumpers, ball handling. How real is that part of your game right now?
SPEAKER_00I'll say I can I know I can do that for sure. Uh I'll definitely showcase that more in AAU just from playing the three, like being away from the rim like more. So I'll have to do more of that. But uh, that's definitely like a real part of my game, I'll say.
SPEAKER_01You know, and that's one thing that I'm really excited about for this summer for you, is uh having that freedom, you know. Uh, because I've seen you both with the jail three and and and at Houston Christian, and uh a little bit different roles, you know, but it's all about winning basketball. Um at your size, do you see yourself more as a forward or evolving into like a positionless player?
SPEAKER_00I could definitely see myself evolving into a positionless player just from my ability to just guard multiple positions and just my athleticism. And I'll say right now I see myself more as a forward, but I'm working on becoming like a positionless player, like working on ball handling and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01You know, we're gonna take this question two different ways. But uh, what do you feel like the next step offensively is for you to become a consistent threat?
SPEAKER_00I'll say playing through physicality more, and I feel like getting to my creating my shots easier because I mean at this level I could pretty much just shoot over anybody, but I'll definitely say for the next level, like working on creating my shot more, stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01So we said leadership, you stepped into a leadership role, and I agree with you, but let's talk about defensively. You block shots, but how are you impacting the defensive side outside of uh of that?
SPEAKER_00Just being able to guard screen and roll like pretty much perfectly. Like I was probably like, I'd say like just uh I was able to just guard pick and rolls, pick and pops, just contain like a lot of defenses and getting my uh getting my uh hands into this uh passing lanes, getting steals, and I'll say just anchoring the whole defense, like people would be scared to come to the paint and stuff like that, just because I was in the middle.
SPEAKER_01So I definitely you know, and I've seen that firsthand. But tell me a little bit, man. If a college coach watches you for one game, what would they walk away saying?
SPEAKER_00Um, he definitely has a high motor, uh, plays both ends, two-way, two-way player, and very athletic for sure.
SPEAKER_01You know what, man? And that just shows your basketball IQ because that was damn near the perfect answer. All right, man. So let's talk a little bit about the recruiting, you know. Uh, not necessarily where you're headed, but more in a situation of you really got a lot of steam, a lot of hit moving parts right now. Um, when I watch you, I see a player whose recruitment could spike, and it is spiking. What do you need to show this summer for that to continue to happen?
SPEAKER_00Just keep showing my versatility. And I guess for this summer, just show that I can guard multiple positions and be an inside out threat. And I feel like my my stocks will continue to rise for sure.
SPEAKER_01If I keep showing that, you know, if and for people that don't know, uh, you do have multiple SEC offers, and you know, being in SEC country that that means a lot around here. Um, you know, and and being a basketball purist, I know there's other areas, uh, but that's one of the biggest things that I've seen uh so far right now in your recruitment is just the onslaught of of attention, you know, and and we kind of talked about that a little bit during the uh during the uh that tournament, you know, about staying the course. How do you think now this is off off script, but how do you think the mentors and the circle around you has helped you continue to remain focused?
SPEAKER_00Um, I'll say just like buying into me and like giving me like affirmation, I'll say that's definitely helped me a lot. And really just being there for me, I'll say that's that's really what helped me a lot. Like my parents and you know, John Lucas.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, man, that's uh that's uh that's a big name, you know, and that means a lot, you know. All right, so let's talk about this. What's the biggest jump you're trying to make between now and next season? We've talked about ball handling, we've talked about shooting positionless. You know, what is it that you that you're aiming for?
SPEAKER_00Becoming like a consistent wing player and create becoming like a consistent shot creator for sure, just working on that mostly. That's what I mainly want to work on.
SPEAKER_01You know, let's let's talk about you know, separation season, right? And the the forwards in the class of 27. You know, we can go down a list right quick. It's top heavy with forwards, right? So what are you doing? What's gonna separate you from the next one?
SPEAKER_00Definitely, I'll say my motor, just my my like one-two to be out there, and my three and D ability, like blocking shots, knocking down shots, and yeah, just playing both ends, playing hard. And obviously, my athleticism like goes into that too. So I'll say that's what would separate me.
SPEAKER_01All right, so is there is there a player or players that you feel like you model your game after?
SPEAKER_00I'll say for shot creation, I try to watch Kevin Durant and then on defense and stuff. I like and like just I like to watch Jaden McDaniels and I'll watch Kevin Garnett like defensively. You know what, man?
SPEAKER_01That that was the name, Garnett, that uh, you know, I'll say with your with your frame and and and how you play, I can see that uh loud and clear. Alright, man. So I got a question for you. And and what's one truth that you learned about yourself this year, whether it be basketball, family, whatever. One truth.
SPEAKER_00Um one truth. I'll say that I'm just able to, just that I'm able to like, just how like how I'm able to impact the game, I'll say. Like, that's just one truth. Like, I didn't really realize like my ability, because like before this, like I was in teams where I was like second, third option, you know, like not the leader, but I'll say like just coming into this year, like I didn't like I was underestimating my ability to be a leader. I'll say that's one truth that I found.
SPEAKER_01All right, folks, 6'8, state champion, real upside, both ends, and still growing into what he's gonna be. This is a name coaches need to know, Landonville from Houston Christian. You know, man, again, thanks for joining us today. Appreciate you grabbing. Yes, sir.
