In this episode, David Nanega explains how Mile High Coatings integrates storage solutions with flooring for a seamless, functional upgrade. Welcome back everyone. I'm Millie M, co-host and producer, back in the studio with David Nanega, president of Mile High Coatings. How's it going? Great. How are you of Mile High Coatings? How's it going? I'm great. How are you? I'm doing quite well and looking forward to learning how you bring together sleek floors and smart storage to create truly elevated spaces. How does Storage Solutions integration work with floor coatings?

Speaker 3:

Well, typically, when it comes to what we provide, we usually install cabinets and overhead racks and slat wall accessories after we've done, you know, a four coating installation. A lot of times, you know, we kind of live in the garage in terms of what we can do. We can provide drywall finishing services and then we can paint the drywall if needed. We can obviously do the floor and then kind of the final piece a lot of times is the cabinets. Usually the only thing we we don't get into is electrical with lighting and everything so. So the nice thing about storage, obviously from our perspective, is that it's really customizable and the cabinets are made to order, built to order.

Speaker 3:

So I'll come out, we'll get a measurement of the space, talk about what the needs are the customer, of course and kind of see what their vision is. We can do tall cabinets, base cabinets with bench tops, integrate some slat wall that have accessories for hooks and being able to hang things and everything. Another advantage to having Mile High Coatings install your cabinets is that we provide a lifetime warranty on the cabinets, the manufacturer provides a lifetime warranty on their systems, which is great.

Speaker 3:

So that, coupled with the lifetime warranty that we offer with the floor, you're really being taken care of from top to bottom on everything that we do. So you know there's again leading. You know some of the systems that we provide. We have drawers on the base cabinets. There's multiple door configurations, the shelves are an inch thick. They provide 100 pounds of capacity of storage, which is actually quite a bit per shelf, and they're just very sturdy, very well built. I have them in my own garage and I love them.

Speaker 3:

And I actually have some in my shop as well and they are very durable that the hardware is soft closed, so you know you can't slam the, you know the doors, you can't even the drawers are super nice gliding drawers. I joke that they're actually nicer than my kitchen cabinets, which is basically true.

Anyways.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so we can really design a custom solution that's tailored to each customer's garage and needs.

Speaker 2:

That's great, because I feel like more people use their garages for storage than its actual purpose of putting their car in there, and to know that, no matter how you use your garage or what you store in the garage, that you all provide solutions specific to those person's needs so they won't feel like any of that space is wasted. Do you recommend installing the storage before or after the coating is applied?

Speaker 3:

So usually our order of operations is that we would paint, if needed, the walls and ceilings first, and then we would do the floor coating installation and then we install the cabinets. That's because the cabinets are often installed to the wall. They're floating usually four to six inches off of the floor, and so we want to have that floor finished, but we don't want to have to try to get underneath the finished cabinets when we're doing the floor coating installation. So having a wide, open floor when we do that is nice, and then obviously we can come in and do the cabinets and then, once we're done with that, the garage is ready to go and ready to use.

Speaker 2:

Can you match the cabinets and the flooring? I know we talked before about just all the different colors and designs and things you can do with the floor. Can you match the cabinets and the floor aesthetically?

Speaker 3:

There are a lot of really nice finish options. There's grays, tans, browns, there's a lot of different visual textures. You know wood looks to the cabinet, so there are certainly probably an endless number of combinations that you can do between the floor and the cabinets to really make it unique but also cohesive with the whole. You know garage I mean once we get done, it feels like the garage is a finished space that you know people love to be in and just you know you pull in your garage at the end of a long day or something and you know it doesn't feel messy and cluttered and everything. It's a little more welcoming for sure.

Speaker 2:

We love beautiful spaces and, like you said, I know that's a mental stressor that's lifted when you don't look at your garage as another task or another thing to do. It's another just beautiful space and part of your home. So what's the biggest mistake people make when planning storage around their flooring?

Speaker 3:

I think maybe one thing that people maybe don't realize is that they tend to want to get it right right away, meaning sometimes people can actually order too much storage or they think they need to max out storage in every open space, and what I typically will tell them is is let's start with what you know you need. That could be as little as one cabinet, and then you know once you have that cabinet filled, the storage there.

Speaker 3:

You know we can, we can add on that. That's maybe one of, maybe not a mistake, but one thing some people don't always realize is oh yeah. I can start with one or two or three cabinets on this wall or that wall. And then as I need more, I can just order another cabinets. It's fairly simple to do, since they are made to order, and so I'd say that's probably the biggest, biggest thing that you know, because you know again, people want to feel like they need to get it right the first time.

Speaker 2:

Always easier to add on than to. You know, do it all at once and start taking away. Thank you so much, David. Great information on how to make every square foot count.
