The Great AI Fragmentation: How the AI landscape is splitting because of what has already been noticed by large businesses. The breakdown into enterprise-mostly platforms, consumer-first models/AI slop, and open-source ecosystems, and what that means for winners and losers. The enterprise is what we've seen increasingly become the business model for MS and Amazon namely. They can charge businesses very high prices and due to the businesses' size, they know they become clients with deep pockets and the cloud business is increasingly becoming more important than their original business lines such as software and a marketplace. Another observation that has been made is that just like with the internet, consumers are not using the tool i.e. AI as a business opportunity and even great equalizer, but rather as entertainment and AI slop is already a first wave sign that AI use for many, if not most consumers, will end up being unproductive for the many, just like the Internet and social media are. Thirdly, the open source model may well be a means from an economic standpoint to bring down the cost of access to AI tools and as a result, steer people away from the better-known large businesses such as OpenAI, or Google and let consumers use tools that are much more affordable, if not near free.
