Push the Plan — Not the Pain - #24

Katie Bird Episode 24

Day 24 - Clear blue skies, crisp winter sun, ideal conditions to get six horses worked and progress locked in.

But performance isn’t just about the day.
It’s about patterns.

One horse felt unsupple through the lumbar-scaral region, not up to standard. I'll reassess with a different saddle, but no pushing through until it’s right.
Another showed subtle signs of discomfort. I didn’t feel it was behavioural, so I stopped. Checked in, held the standards.

This isn’t about being soft. It’s about being responsible.

And we’re seeing the longer-term effects of relentless weather,  horses bracing through storms, carrying tension, and loading their systems with prolonged isometric contraction.
It all adds up.

Progress requires physical work,  but also precision, observation, and knowing when to intervene.

That’s what keeps horses performing… and protected.
