When Prevention Saves You and You Barely Notice - #30

Day 30 — and the aftermath of the storm was waiting.

Morning was spent sorting storm damage: the main barn paddocks were hit hard.
 At first, it looked like just broken electric tape and torn rugs, but something felt off.

I brought each group in, fixed fencing, and just had time to clip Beau before heading out to treat a group of fabulous hunters here for Taupo Hunt Week (including a 24-year-old I’ve treated for years — an absolute legend).

Coming home… heart-in-mouth moment.

The four main competition horses were gone from their paddock, through a bottom fence I hadn’t noticed was broken.

Here’s the win: no injuries.
And why? Because we invested in upgrading all fencing to horse-safe systems.
That decision has already saved us thousands of dollars in past vet costs, and today it proved its worth again.

Prevention costs. But when it works, it’s worth everything.
