Dharadun Uttrakhand, known across India for its quiet hills, pleasant weather, and peaceful schools. But over the span of just 14 days, this peaceful valley became the center of a nightmare. Three brutal murders shook the entire city back to back, leaving residents asking one terrifying question. Why is Deradun turning into a crime capital? It all started on Jan 29th, when an 18-year-old student named Manisha was brutally murdered in Vikas Nagar. Before the city could even process that shock, just four days later, on Feb 2nd, a 23-year-old man had his throat slit in Bultan Bazaar. Fear gripped the streets, people started stepping out with extreme caution, but nobody, absolutely nobody, imagined that the third target would be chosen from one of the most secure, elite neighborhoods in the entire city. February 11th, 2026, exactly at 8 a.m. In Vasan Vihar, lane number 3, 42-year-old Arjun Sharma, stepped out of his rented home, a cup of coffee in his hand and his trademark smile on his face. For Arjun, this morning felt like any other ordinary morning. He had no idea that within the next few hours, the third murder in Deradun would silence his smile forever. Following his daily routine, Arjun climbed into his maroon jeep bearing his lucky license plate 0786. And he drove down to the Tibet Market parking. He parked the vehicle and walked straight toward parade ground, where he went every single morning to play lawn tennis. Between 8.30 and 9.30 a.m., Arjun played hard, enjoying the sport just like he had for decades. Then at 9 45 a.m. he walked over to a nearby fruit vendor to grab some fresh fruit juice. Everything was completely normal, routine, predictable, as it should have been. At 9 50 a.m., as Arjun carried his bag of fruit back toward his car, two masked men pulled up beside him on a blue scooter. Before Arjun could even process what was happening, the passenger on the scooter pulled out a firearm and fired point blank. The bullet struck Arjun straight in the chest. He collapsed instantly onto the pavement. The sharp crack of gunfire shattered the peaceful morning air of Tibet Market. Panic erupted everywhere and instantly. Shooters twisted the throttle, peering away toward Buddha Chok as bystanders screamed, scrambled for cover, and frantically dialed police and ambulances. But by the time help came and reached Arjun Sharma, it was far too late. Just moments ago, a man living an ordinary routine morning of his was now lying motionless in a pool of his own blood in the middle of a crowded commercial hub. But here is what shocked investigators the most. Arjun wasn't ambushed in some dark, isolated alleyway. The Tibet Market and Parade Ground area is one of the Heradun's most high security zones. The state's secretariat and police headquarters are barely only 500 meters away. This is a place swarming with people, police movement and security personnel all day long. Yet in broad daylight, two masked men on a scooter arrived, executed a target killing in a packed public square, and vanished into thin air. It wasn't just a murder case, it was a direct, brazen challenge to the entire law enforcement machinery of Uttar Khand. At roughly 10.30 a.m. on February 11th, the Dalanwala Kotvali police station received urgent calls about a shooting near Tibet Market. Police rushed to the scene. Arjun was immediately rushed to Dune hospital, where doctors officially declared him brought dead. Forensic teams swarmed the area within minutes. The primary focus of the investigation turned instantly to CCTV cameras. Police needed to track down those two masked attackers on the blue scooter. The gravity of the entire crime was so intense that Rajeev Swaroop, Inspector General, I.g. of the Garval Range, personally rushed to the crime scene. After inspecting the physical and technical evidence, he ordered senior police officers to form dedicated special teams to track down and arrest the killers immediately. As the investigation progressed, police recovered two crucial CCTV clips that laid out the chilling timeline of the assassination. The first clip showed the two masked men waiting outside a shop near Tibet Market for a prolonged period. They were casually smoking cigarettes, constantly glancing around like predators, waiting for their prey. Police realized instantly that Arjun wasn't a random victim. He was being hunted. And his killers, they had been waiting for him to arrive. The second clip showed Arjun finishing his tennis session, walking toward the market, parking his vehicle between gates 7 and 8 and stopping by the fruit vendor. He bought pineapples, chatted briefly with the shopkeeper, and turned back toward his car. And that is when the trap closed. As Arjun reached his vehicle, the scooter pulled up. One assassin stepped off, raised his weapon, and fired directly into Arjun's chest. Initial police assessments indicated the weapon was a crude country-made pistol. You know how they see kata? Suggesting a professional hit carried out with local logistics. Now at first glance, investigators assumed it was a classic case of personal enmity or an old gang rivalry. But what happened next? Completely flipped the script in ways the police never saw it coming. When Arjun's wife, Abilasha Sharma, arrived at Dalanvala, Kotoval to file the official FIR. She didn't point fingers at some mysterious outside street gang. She didn't say, I don't know what happened. Instead, she named a list of suspects straight out of Arjun's own family and inner circle. At the very top of the list was Arjun's own mother, Abhil Asha's mother-in-law, Beena Sharma. But Abil Asha didn't stop there. She named a total of four people, accusing them of orchestrating a cold-blooded conspiracy to murder her husband. Suddenly the police had two completely contradictory theories on their hands. On one side, CCTV footage showed external hitmen lying in wait. On the other side, a grieving wife was swearing under oath that the masterminds lived right inside Arjun's own home. How could a mother of all the people plot to kill her own son? What kind of hatred, greed, or betrayal does it have to be that could push a family, including a mother, to such a dark, irreversible edge? Now to find out, we have to look past that bloodstained morning in Tibet Market. And to truly understand the Arjun Sharma murder case, we have to go back to his childhood. His father's colonel, Ramesh Chandra Sharma, was an officer in the Indian Army who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country about 38 years ago during active military operations. At that time, Arjun and his elder brother Atul were both minors. Now at an age when children are supposed to learn how to walk holding their father's hand, Arjun and Atul learn to grow up staring at a framed photograph of a fallen soldier. Following Colonel Sharma's martyrdom, the government of India allotted Amardeep Gas Service, an Indian gas agency located on Dehradun's prominent GMS road to his wife, Beena Sharma. To secure the family's livelihood, the agency had been running successfully for over 37 years. Once he reached adulthood, Arjun took over the day-to-day operations of the gas agency, working hard to turn it into a powerhouse of financial stability for the entire household. But Arjun wasn't just known as a businessman. In Dehradun's elite circles, he was a massive personality. He was fit, wealthy, and unapologetically luxurious. Since childhood, Arjun was a diehard tennis fanatic, once playing at the national ranking level too. Even as he grew older, his passion never faded away. Every single morning he would go, he played at parade ground and actively participated in district level tournaments. He loved cricket too, and his presence among friends always brought about a vibrant energy. He was just that kind of person. Yet Arjun's love for sports wasn't just about personal trophies. You see, to keep his father's memory alive, Arjun had been personally organizing the RC Memorial Football Tournament for five consecutive years, inviting teams from all over Uttrakhand. He bore all expenses out of his own pocket and personally handed out trophies to the winners. Arjun genuinely believed that sports could guide local youth in the right direction, and it was really, in his eyes, a reflection of the values his father had left behind. Now, alongside sports, Arjun had an expensive obsession with luxury cars and heavy superbikes. He was an active member of the Foothills Harley Davidson rider group, frequently roaring through the mountain highways on his custom machine. If you looked closely at his vehicles, almost all of them shared a single repeating license plate number. 07886. Arjun considered his ultimate lucky charm number. It was a signature part of his identity that all his friends knew by heart. And the cruel irony of irony is his fate decided to make that exact obsession the silent witness to his final moments. On the morning of Feb 11th, the Maroonji parked outside the Tibet market where Arjun was assassinated, as I mentioned earlier, also had the same number, 0786. The number he believed protected him was actually a witness to his own murder. What happened? How did a respected military martyr's family descend into an own kind of battlefield within their family structure itself? The answer doesn't lie in any random street encounter. It traces back nearly 17 to 18 years to a single friendship. Now around 2008, while pursuing his MBA, Arjun crossed paths with a man named Vinod Uniel. Over time, their friendship grew so close that Vinod became a regular fixture at the Sharma household. The family trusted him implicitly, treating him almost like another son that they had. But beneath that mask of brotherhood, Vinod was eyeing an opening. Found this breakdown insightful and you like our podcast that we bring to you every single week. Here's a request. Do follow us, do review us, and do share it with your friends and family. Now back to the story. So this Vinod enters their lives, and Vinod pitched an investment proposal to Arjun, claiming that if Arjun pumped money into Vinod's business ventures, he would receive staggering returns. Monthly returns of 20 to 25%. Blinded by trust, Arjun liquidated multiple properties and poured a massive fortune into Vinod's hands. For a while, the wheel spun, then the payments stopped. When Arjun demanded his principal amount back, the ugly truth surfaced. This wasn't a minor business misunderstanding. It had ballooned into a monstrous financial dispute totaling between 40 to 42 crores of rupees. And then came the bounce checks, legal notices, and shouting matches followed. A friendship forged in 2008 on mutual trust was shattered into razor sharp shards. But Vinod Unil didn't just walk away. When Arjun locked him out of financial recovery, Vinod smartly pivoted. He bypassed Arjun entirely and began building an intensely close relationship with Arjun's mother Beena Sharma. And I think this is where it gets very, very interesting. Over the next 15 years, Vinod and his wife, Sangeet Aonil, grew close to Bina, such that not even Arjun's raging disputes with Vinod could break that bond. Slowly, agonizingly, Arjun discovered that funds from their family gas agency were being siphoned out of Bina's bank accounts and funneled directly into Vinod's accounts. And we're not talking about hundreds of rupees or thousands or lakhs even. We're talking about crores. When Arjun confronted his mother, the household exploded. Arjun's question was simple and brutal, straight to the point. Why is our hard-earned family business money being handed over to an outsider? Bina had no answer that could satisfy him. For Arjun, the pain wasn't just about losing money, it was the unbearable agony of watching his own mother ally with the very man trying to ruin him. The financial war created an insurmountable gap between mother and son. Eventually, Arjun packed his bags and moved out, renting a separate house in Vasan Pihar. The walls of the family home remained the same, but the people living inside had become sworn enemies and the worst was yet to come. Right in the middle of this escalating financial war, a massive ancestral property belonging to the Sharma family on GMS Road became the ultimate battleground. Without telling Arjun, Bina Sharma entered into an agreement to sell this prime family property to a local doctor named Ajay Khanna for roughly 14 crores, far below its actual market valuation. At the time of the agreement, Bina received an advance of 8 crores. And in a shocking twist, the very next day she transferred that entire 8 crore advance straight into Vinod O'Neill's bank account. When Arjun found out his fury reached boiling point, they were a critical catch. This property was encumbered by an active bank loan of 8 crores, for which Arjun was a co-guarantor and legal witness. About 4 crores had already been paid off, but if the property was sold and registered without clearing the remaining liability, Arjun would face devastating legal and financial ruin. To protect his legal standing, Arjun filed formal complaints against Bina and challenged the property sale in court. Now what Arjun did not know at the time was that Bina had secretly paid off the remaining 4 crore loan, secured a no objection certification, an NOC, from the bank, and completed the property registration in Dr. Kana's name. The danger Arjun was trying to prevent had already bypassed his legal blocks. Yet Arjun refused to back down. He marched straight to the court, filing motions claiming it was undivided ancestral property which Bina had no legal sole right to sell. The court slapped a stake on mutation and further transfers, effectively freezing the property's possession. And that is when the pressure cooker blew up in Beena Sharma's face. Now picture this. On one side stood her own son's court orders blocking the deal. On the other side stood Dr. Ajay Khanna demanding his property or his money back, threatening financial penalties because he had already handed over eight crores in advance. Adam Vinod Unil's ongoing multi-core financial entangless and Beena Sharma was trapped in a suffocating web of debt, desperation, and betrayal. The mother-son relationship had crossed the point of no return between 2025 and 2004 when the battlefield expanded from dining tables to police stations and courtrooms. Arjun formally accused Vinod Unil of manipulating his mother to commit large-scale financial fraud. In retaliation, Beena filed police complaints against her own son claiming assault. In 2025, Arjun fired back, filing criminal fraud cases against Bina, Vinod, and Vinod's wife Sanjeeta. Things escalated past absurdity. On Feb 2nd, 2025, when Vinod filed a complaint at Vasantvihar police station, claiming Arjun had forged signatures on checks, and FIR was registered the very next day. The breakdown of the family reached a tragic milestone when Bina Sharma actually petitioned the Uttarakhand High Court, claiming she faced a direct threat to her life. From her own son, Arjuna demanded police protection. The High Court obliged. A female police constable was actually officially deployed outside Bina's home as a round-the-clock bodyguard. Think about that for a second now. A mother asking the state to protect her from her own son while the son was fighting through courts to stop her from destroying their ancestral legacy. The home where Arjun took his first steps was now divided by police guards, court summons, and mutual terror. But during the subsequent police investigation, a dark, deeply shameful truth crawled out of the shadows, one that gave the entire case an explosive, repulsive twist. Investigators uncovered concrete evidence proving that Vinod O'Neal and Arjun's mother Beena Sharma were not merely business associates. They were actually locked in an illicit secret romantic affair. For a son, realizing that your own mother had traded the memory of your martyr, father, and family on her for an illicit liaison with a manipulative fraudster. It's of course a wound, a big psychological wound, which is too deep to even understand. Arjun wasn't just fighting to recover stolen money or protect property. He was standing up against a shameful betrayal that had corrupted his home. The battle lines were drawn. What started as property disputes and financial fraud had mutated into a toxic cocktail of greed, revenge, romance. And somewhere in the dark corners of Deradun, that toxic mix decided that Arjun Sharma had to be permanently eradicated, removed, eliminated. The assassination of Arjun Sharma was not a crime of sudden passion. It was one that was planned. It was a cold-blooded execution that had been planned for over 25 days before the trigger was actually pulled. In late January, Beena Sharma, Vinod Unil, and Dr. Ajaikana allegedly convened to draft a blueprint to wipe Arjun off the map. Once the plan was locked, they needed hired muscles. Vinod Unil tasked his personal driver, Pankaj Rana, with arranging Hitmen. Pankaj recruited his own brother, Rajiv, also known as Raju. The price for Arjun Sharma's life was fixed at 12 lakh rupees. An advance of 3 lakh rupees was paid upfront, with the remaining 9 lakh to be delivered once the deed was done. But the most disturbing aspect of this entire conspiracy was how the hitmen tracked their target. They didn't need high-tech surveillance. They had an informant inside Arjun's own family ecosystem. Now Bina Sharma allegedly utilized Vijay Kumar, the manager of her gas agency, to extract the innings and the workings, daily innings and workings of Arjun's life. When does he wake up? Where does he go? What does he do? Do you know where his exact location is? All these are the questions that she would ask. Vijay grew deeply suspicious when Bina repeatedly grilled him about Arjun's daily movements, sensing something sinister. Vijay flatly refused to provide further details and secretly want Arjun telling him, Madam is asking way too many questions about your routine. Please be careful. But it was already too late. The hitmen had already mapped out Arjun's entire life and schedule. They carried photographs of Arjun and his Jeep on their mobile phones so they wouldn't make a single mistake on execution day. On the morning of Febru 11th, Beena was still attempting to contact manager Vijay, trying to pin down Arjun's exact location. Moments later, when Arjun walked into Tibet Mark, the assassins were already waiting in the shadows. And imagine that reality. A mother who carried her son in her womb watched him grow, celebrated his birthday's triumphs, and knew every heartbeat of his life. Yet the conspirators tried desperately to cover their tracks. Before, during, and after the shooting, hitman Pankanjirana stayed in constant contact with Vinod Unil via WhatsApp calls following the murder. Both hitmen shaved their heads, trimmed their moustaches, and dyed their hair black to alter their facial structures and evade any kind of CCTV identification. They thought they had committed the perfect crime, but criminals always leave a trail of breadcrumbs. And those breadcrumbs were about to lead straight to the heart of the conspiracy. Following Abelasha's formal complaint, Dalanvala Kot Vali police locked down four primary suspects Beena Sharma, Vinodonil, Sangeeta Onil, and Dr. Ajay Khanat. Abilasha's afida detailed massive multi-core transactions that Arjun had fiercely resisted. Transactions that she argued directly motivated his murder. Police immediately launched a citywide dragnet to hunt down the two masked killers captured on CCT. The net closed rapidly on February, culminating in two separate high stakes police encounters. During the shootouts, the police apprehended the two suspects and recovered two country made pistols. That one of these weapons was the exact firearm used to shoot Arjun Sharma. When the suspects' identities were revealed, it sent shockwaves through the department. These weren't professional contract killers from another state. They were local Deradun brothers. The first was Rajiv, as we said, called as his alliance was Raju, so known as Raju, an E. Rickshaw driver with a dark criminal past. Back in 1997, he had been arrested and jailed for four to five years for murdering his own stepfather in Clement town. The second was Pankajrana, Vinod Unil's personal driver. Both wounded suspects were rushed to Coronation Hospital under heavy guard, where senior superintendent of police SSP Aja Singh personally supervised the interrogation. During the interrogation, that breaking under police questioning, both brothers confessed to their role in Arjun's assassination, confirming they had been contracted for rupees 12 lakhs. Crucially, their confessions explicitly corroborated every single name listed in Abhalasha's FIR. With the conspiracy blown wide open, police moved swiftly, arresting Beena Sharma, Vinod Unil, and Dr. Ajay Kanna. While Sangeeta Unil's name was in the initial FIR, police stated that direct evidence linking her to the murder plot at that specific moment was still under review. Police seized the 315 Boer pistols, the blue colour scooter used in the hit, and critical digital evidence including WhatsApp chat logs and CCTV footage. Yet, amidst the arrests, charge sheets, and preparations to slap stringent gangster act on all five accused, the case delivered a final chilling irony. The Nenital High Court granted Beena Sharma, the accused mastermind behind her own son's murder, special permission on humanitarian grounds to attend Arjun's final funeral rite. The court made it crystal clear that this was not bail, merely a humanitarian allowance. Picture that image. A mother who plotted to kill her own son and finally was successful in doing that, walking under police escort to light or be there when his funeral pyre is being lit. Psychologists call this cognitive dissonance when an individual harbours completely contradictory impulses. On one hand, Bina was obviously acting like someone who had lost a son and wanted to be there for his funeral. On another hand, she was the one whom got him murdered. But as the dust settled, one haunting question remained echoing in the hills of Dehradun. Could Arjun Sharma's murder have been prevented? Now, according to Arjun's close friend Rajivyadav, Arjun had been receiving explicit death threats over the property dispute. For weeks, Arjun had personally approached senior police officials two to three times seeking urgent protection. Now, as you know, protection had been given to Arjun's mom, but tragically, according to friends, he was met with a lot of casual administrative delays like we are looking into it, we are acting on it, and he was never given that protection. So, yes, it could have been prevented had there been action that was taken. The Arjun Sharma murder case stands as a very grim reminder of a dark truth when greed and illicit obsession and you know unbridled financial lust take over a human soul, family bonds, blood ties, morals, there are no boundaries, there are no ties then. They all shatter away into dust. Sadly, a mother traded her son's life for secrecy and assets. A friendship turned into a financial graveyard. Peaceful valley in the Himalayas was stained with a betrayal sodium. It proves that sometimes the monster waiting in the dark isn't a stranger on the street. It's sitting right across from you or me at the table. And I know it's really hard to imagine all of this. This marks the end of this episode. Until the next episode, stay kind, stay safe.
