The woman who started the UpDown in Chicago was Diana Silvius Gits, who started this location in 1963/1965 (first woman owned cigar shop). The history is that she took members on excursions to cigar factories/estates and allowed her members (and their spouses) to be fully immersed into an authentic cigar experience.
We mention Iwan and Ries of Chicago, self proclaimed oldest tobacconist in the country (ca. 1857). Back in the day, MJ helped to change the demographics within this space by encouraging more diverse groups to enjoy the cigar experience.
For audiences 21 and older.
