SPEAKER_08

Okay, we're back for another episode of On the Edge Podcast. Darren's on holidays. I'm roasting here in Sligo. We can't use the studio today, so hence why we look like this. But you're all welcome back. Straight in, Darn. Wonder why Joe Brennan never asked for video technology to be brought in two weeks ago. He didn't seem to say anything after that game. But he wasn't.

SPEAKER_13

Definitely not. Definitely not.

SPEAKER_11

He refrained, he refrained from it that day. But look at, I suppose what he's saying is because they obviously lost the game. You know what I mean? Like the decisions he's highlighting is because they're out of the championship, and that's kind of the main gripe that he had, and it's straight after the game. And he's just, you know, it's off the cuff. It's one of these things that that that happens. But look at I think uh watching on the Sunday game, like they discussed it in a bit in more detail. And I've read a few things today, and you know, like obviously we don't want to go down the soccer route of you're checking this or you're checking that, but yeah, look at it's it's something, it's a discussion to be had, but yes, he didn't ask for her two weeks ago, put it that way. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Look, I'm I'm having I like I fully think that you could argue that um um oh my god, the wing forward uh Joe Connor, he nearly shouldered into a coffee burn. But like if the ref couldn't see that as much as we could in the other angle, you kind of give you can give the ref a bit of a benefit of the doubt. Uh the the square ball, um like like at fairness, I don't know if you've ever umpired. Like to look at oh who kicked it when and then look where the song like it's as someone said on Neil Ewing said on Twitter yesterday, said like it's almost uncontrollable, it's nearly impossible to manage that rule. So I don't know how they tweak or change that. But your mouth was in it, he did leave and then go back again, you know. So you're the umpire going. I mean, I can understand the umpire not seeing the goal that hit off uh I forget which player blocked it on the room.

SPEAKER_09

Mike Green, Mike Green, Mike Green.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, so and again, even in replays, like if it went to a VAR situation, like you could actually have found it looked from naked eye that there might have been a teeny bit of the ball out over the line, but again, yeah, absolutely for important goals. I think the there probably is a space for something else. Uh Chorus Taunton said on the late on the Sunday game that it's in ladies' football.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, I wasn't aware, I wasn't aware of that either. And I'd be interested to see what they use. I think she said something like to have 30 seconds to go to the van or the camera. And or obviously the reference and running out to the truck, but I presume he has somebody watching it and they give 30 seconds. But for like, look at we've mentioned it before with Hawkeye. Um, a few years ago, there was an issue with Hawkeye in Crow Park with Shane Walsh for goal with a 45 that was over the bar that was rude wide, and then all of a sudden it got changed at halftime, and the score went up on the scoreboard, and there was a big roar going out from the crowd. So, like, you know, we're talking about um Hawkeye being in Croker, and I think it's in Tarlus as well. So it's only in two of the stadium. So are you gonna say you're gonna bring in the little VAR camera for the goal line technology just in Crow Park, or is it going to be nationwide? Like, like it's a very grey area because you're you're gonna open it, you open up a huge can of worms there to see okay, well, it's not used in a qualifier game, or it's not used in a provincial final, but yet when we get to Crow Park, it's used. Is it used in National League? Like it's just it's it's a huge discussion. It's probably one that's going to be highlighted as we're going forward. Whether anything is going to happen because of it, I don't really know. But yeah, you're I seen I seen the the tweet from from Bob yesterday saying about that the umpires have enough to be doing. They're looking for 40 yards out to see where he's kicking the ball from. Yeah, they're standing back. Like in that situation, like does the umpire really need to stand back in Crow Park when he has Hawkeye to fall back on? True, that's a good point, actually. Yeah, like uh, but like obviously there the umpires are being told stand back and make sure you can see the ball coming over the bar, etc. etc. or going over the poster, whatever it is. But if they have Hawkeye, I know that nobody wants to make a uh a wrong decision when you have a split second to make up your mind, but again, it's like where are we going to draw the line on it? You know, it's it's it's one of these situations, and the one with Mike Green, like we had replays after replays, and it's like was it over the line, was it not? I know you're talking there's millimeters in it, but yeah, these are huge, huge situations, and the umpire couldn't call it, the ref couldn't call it. Like, even watching the replays, we had the benefit of it on the TV replays, and we're still not 100% sure. So, like, where do you stop? And with the Okofi Brown one on Joe O'Connor for the penalty incident, the one that you mentioned there firstly, like uh it looked worse than it actually was when you look back in the replay. But I'm pretty sure nine times out of ten, anywhere on the pitch, that's going to be given as a free. Now, whether Joe O'Connor threw himself to the ground and held his face or his head, it is irrelevant in the situation because the ref had given the foul. Now he did he did take a second, you could actually see he didn't just give it straight away, and he took himself a second and then he gave the foul. But again, look at these are huge pressure situations for players and for refs. I've seen some people saying that Joe O'Connor conned the ref on that situation. Like, but you're if you go back over any game, like there's fellas you you look at the Tyrone Roscommon game for for a matter of fact, there, like like young MacInholm had grabbed the Roscommon man's arm to pull him down. So, like it's one of these things. Uh that's a referee decision, like you know.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I think the blatant ones, I mean, if if you can give a if you can give the ref uh the benefit of the doubt, there he wasn't at the camera angle we've seen afterwards. And it did look from first glance that Occoffey Byrne went in frontal. Now he probably could have changed his body shape a little bit differently, but like you're getting into real nitpicking. But the goal line one isn't really the ref or the umpire's fault, in my pro in my it's it would be within the GA rules. But I suppose if you're saying you know you won't get the VAO or the video goal line technology in every stadium, but at least when it comes to Crow Park, they're knockout games. So imagine if you had it for quarterfinal, semifinal, final. Whereas in other earlier rounds, if it's in county grounds, you could say, Well, look, even if there's a bit of bad luck, you're not out. So maybe that would be the only argument for, but again, it depends on what the cost is.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, look, it it's it's it's it's one that's for discussion and debate, and I'm sure because it's highlighted now, um, it's one of these things that will be will be spoken about. But again, I think that there's it it it could be years down the line before you see anything happening in relation to that.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we wouldn't be wouldn't be expecting it. So I suppose getting more to the nitty-gritty of the game, uh like I text you, Jordan, I said it's a it's a real game of chess. If you love your tactics, it was intriguing, but it was it wasn't the best of games, really. Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, like so some of the quality was a little bit poor on it. Um, I think we had highlighted some of the matchups that we were going to get. Now Sean McMahon was ruled out before the game, um, so he obviously wasn't picking up Clifford, but Davy Byrne picked up Clifford on that side of it, and then we said on the other side of it that you know you'd be looking at the likes of Jason Foley picking up Conn. Um I would say, you know, there was a lot of other arguments, and looking back on the game, like I I seen it was very similar with Paudi Clifford what happened with the All-Inland final last year with Johnny Gaulle. Like he was less he got the run of the pitch, okay. And I'm sure if Joe Brennan had his time back or his tactics back, or he was looking back in the game himself, he would say, Well, we should have pushed out on him. Now, we had said we had highlighted here before that if you let Pauddy dictate the game, he goes a long way to deciding the outcome of it. And I think they that was nailed on on Sunday for what happened because like I think he had over 70 possessions again. Um, he scored five points himself. Yeah, was mad like you know, but like like he really drove at them in the second half, but like in even in the first half, he was over and back the field with the ball, and there was no pressure coming on him. Um on the other side of things with Jason Foley and Conn, like I think Jason Foley done a massive, massive job on Conn. I know that he was nullified, like, and we had said that he might be 100% fit.

SPEAKER_08

Um well, if you're not fit and you're coming up against Jason Foley, it's a different animal to some of the players he might have come up against. Yeah, he scored. I know we said in one of the podcasts, like one seven in a game, one nine. Was it like forget what he got against Golden? One five or something like that. So he he was fairly well wrapped up with that.

SPEAKER_11

He got a two the last day, like you know, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But you only got one score and it was a two-pointer. So I mean we don't want to start previewing the final, but you know, we obviously we'll talk a little bit later on about the Mayo forwards. Uh so it'd be interesting to see. As I said to my mayor friend there, I said we'll only get all our answers after the final where everything is at, like, you know, but just totally definitely be. But David Clifford, like he's been triple marked at some points, and he still gets one five.

SPEAKER_11

So the internal question of how do you mark him is just we have asked the question here before what's what's a good output outcome when you're marking David Clifford? Is it one four, one five, is it eight points? Which I think is in the modern game now. I think that's kind of acceptable because like David Byrne done a massive job on him. Now he had a lot of help from other guys falling back in, and he was double marked and he was triple marked. And at one stage in the second half, I think he pushed it a little bit when he got his kick blocked down, but Dublin came down the pitch for a goal chance, which was a huge, huge swinging point in the game. Because if Dublin had got that to go six up, Clifford was a little bit annoyed at the time, that's why he went for that two, gets blocked down. All of a sudden, it doesn't go in, which you would be expecting Conn to rattle the back of the net. Great save by Murphy again, and all of a sudden, Terry come down the field and they get their major by a dubious goal. Are we going to call it a dubious goal? Um whatever.

SPEAKER_08

Technically, yeah, but but I mean, yeah, I as I said, I think there's we won't go back on it now, but I think there's there's an argument to go like God, do you do you change the whole square ball?

SPEAKER_11

You know, yeah, but that it but but but that little that little section in the game, that little 30, 40, 50 seconds, like that decided the game.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_11

Because like once Kerry got that goal, they got themselves back into the game because Dublin were after coming out in the second half and they were after absolutely nailing Kerry on kick outs they got their first three kick outs in the second half, as far as I remember. They really had, and then all of a sudden, within five, seven minutes, Kerry are gone two, three, four, five, six up. And you know, it's it's like yes, they got that goal chance again, which was you know, but Kerry were putting bodies on the line there, like Fordy came up with a massive block after Murphy had saved it onto the post, and you had Paul Murphy and Mike Green back on the line, and then the ball breaks out again and Fody blocks it, and then a Kerry defender ends up picking it up, and he gets fouled, and it's just like they relaxed, and they won the game at their ease, really, towards the end. Yeah, you know, they were they and but like but like credit to the dubs. Like I will give massive kudos to them because like they stuck at the game, they had a game plan. Some of their players were excellent, like with Conn nullified, like Cormac Costello came to the fore and like he clipped over seven points. Um, yeah, Charlie McMahon again, who I've mentioned before, is having an outstanding year, who I thought was going to tag Body Clifford, but he kind of had a free run himself. He ends up kicking two massive points. He went for a third one that drifted a little bit wide, you know. So there's very, very small margins. But I suppose when you're looking from the outside in, like Terry will have to tidy up an awful lot of stuff with the All-In final because Jack O'Connor, I listened to a couple of his interviews after the game, he wasn't overly impressed. Now he had a bit of a bite back at a journalist at one stage about you know one of the questions that journalists asked him. But like this is just you know, this is straight after the game. There, you know, you know, you know, like tensions are high, you know. It doesn't take much to rattle these people at this occasion, like you know. But look, Kerry got across the line. The dubs obviously give themselves a pat on the back, done very well from where they were six or seven weeks ago to be saying that they could have bet Kerry, like like you know it wasn't beyond the bounds of possibility, like they had a lot of wides.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, their their shooting percentage. I'm just looking here, and again, courtesy of Gaelic statsman, go and follow them if you want to find your stats a week. Dublin had 34 shots, Kerry had 28, and Dublin had a 52%. They scored 18 out of them, and Kerry scored 60% out of theirs. So they had plenty of chances, and there was a few unfortunate widespread, but into the hill did not seem to suit. And you were saying about Kerry, Kerry never looked too troubled. Okay, it was a tense first half, and he did said to me at halftime, like, oh, that wind, and they just once they got their chance, and their goal be it fortuitous enough or not, but uh you can go even go back to that Dillingy, it was a failed attempt, but it also showed you high ball in. There happened to be a big massive man in there, so there must have been some slight bit of a uh a tactic too.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, or they were in there, and and because I had said that's what Kerry will do on occasions. I said this last week that that the likes of them four giants they have in that middle third, some of them go in and they hang around the house, and more often than not, it's to release Clifford or release Keaney, or I know Paul Geeney wasn't playing but Sean O'Shea um around the arc. But when the ball does go in, you have a big man there. And when it did drop short, he got his hand to it. And look at that, that's that's the turn of point. But touching on Paul Guinea missing out and Shawnee Shea starting, like I thought he had a massive game as well. Yeah, and interestingly enough, I think uh the the the advance mark was it was used a number of times over the weekend for the first time in a long time that you see.

SPEAKER_08

True, and especially having Cliffords, you think give it a chance, you'll usually catch it over the head, but it uh I think twice it fell to the wrong people. Yeah, it did. Yeah, they had to take it.

SPEAKER_11

It they they definitely did. But again, look at it, it's one of these things that it's it's a ploy because Shawnee O'Shea caught one in the second half and he had the nonce to come out and kick a two at that stage, which was huge. And then even the point that Shawnee kicked just before halftime, a little bit of link up play between himself and Clifford. Like they looked at each other, they looked at the clock, and they were like, Let's get a shot off here. But they didn't just take a shot for the sake of taking a shot, they made sure that it was coming from the right spot, and like going into the hill end, like you know, it was either going to be one of the two of them that was going to take it, like you know, and obviously the dubs were probably gonna think it's David that's gonna take it, and Shawnee gets it and clips it over from his wrong side, but again, straight after halftime. Like I know, like like Murphy had some penis of kick outs, and Comfort had the far side, but I'd say may all be looking at what Dublin done for the first 10 minutes after halftime, and they really really pushed up on the Kerry kick-out and didn't give them a free option. And when it went long and it went high, like they were really, really strong and determined under the break of ball, and it gave them a great platform at the start of the second half. Look at it, wasn't enough in the end because I think Kerry's little bit of know-how got them across the line, really. But again, uh Tomoth Kennedy came on for his first appearance in a while. He wasn't in the 26th the last day, he ends up fisting a point over. Uh young Evan Looney came on and done well. I think that his grandmother had passed away in the days previous to that. So, like, he deserves kudos for talking out and coming up to the game. I'm sure, I'm sure his family will be proud of him for doing that, and he had a he had a part to play in the game as well. But look at it's one of these things, Kerry are back into the line in the final.

SPEAKER_08

Uh well, we're just well used to saying that. Like, and I just I noticed that the two benches only got a point, a point each. Uh Tomas Kennedy came on for Kerry, and then Bugler came on and got a point. So that like, do Kerry, you know, you look to the Kerry subs, you know, there's a few good players, maybe just not enough household names that are going to be clipping points for you, you know.

SPEAKER_11

So yeah, well, that's that's exactly it. Like, I know Killian Spellan didn't get any game time, Tony Sulva didn't get any game time, Tony Brosen didn't get any game time. Like, these are established Kerry footballers over the years, like, and they didn't see any game time at at the weekend, like you know. So look at they'll be pushing each other on for the next two weeks. But again, look at it, it was it was it was very tactical, it was like it was as you had mentioned, it was a kind of like a game of chess, especially at times like like you know, and I thought that Kerry would do that because the dubs more so would want it to be a shootout up and down the field, but like once Kerry got to grips with them in the second half, they kind of they played the game on their own terms, and even at the end there, you see that the they walked the ball into the corner and Tifford ended up kicking her up onto level seven. I'm not sure if the oh no, I see the video.

SPEAKER_08

Some guy caught it cleanly and there was a big cheer for it. But I don't know.

SPEAKER_11

Did he get out of Pro Park with that ball?

SPEAKER_08

Or tight to get out of there, I'd say without even like I know we mentioned uh Shunny O'Shea, but I thought, like, especially first half, Graham Sullivan, Gavin White, she kind of got quiet in the second half, but even Joe Connor, I thought, had much more in bigger influence in the last few games. So if you're Mayo, you're because you're starting to go, oh god, where do we start? Like marking those.

SPEAKER_11

No, there's a look, of course, and it's it's one of these things that you're you have to plan for all of these guys, like Graham Sullivan kicked two points. It's not too often you see Graham Sullivan kicking two points in a game, to be honest. It's usually one of the other wing backs, or or sometimes he's in in the wing forward position as well. But he clipped them over and he ran himself into the ground, and or Buglock come on then with another 20-25 to go. Like it's look at the they have they have some awesome players coming off the bench, and they have like they've decided like empty the tank, don't leave anything in reserve. Like again, they're after getting another full game into Sean Yoshe. And I I thought that even if Gini had been fit, that he might have started anyway. Turned out the Gini didn't make the match day panel, and Killian Spillan took his 14 because he was on one of the standby players. So look at it's it's one of these things there they are where they are, and it's it's it's up to Mayo now to uh come up with that.

SPEAKER_08

Well, to kind of cross over between the games, uh just one thing I noticed. We all say the kick outs, the new rules is all about the kick-outs, and uh again, stats, courtesy gaelic stats with page Kerry had 63%, won 63% of their own kickouts, and they won the match. Dublin had 71% and they lost, and then in the next one now we go into Mayoni won 47% of their kick outs, and Loud won 61%, and Mayo won and Loud lost. So the team that had less of their kick-out percentage win uh won the game. So in this crazy season, even the most common stat that seemed to be there all year, it's now gonna go on. Oh, maybe that's not what you need after all.

SPEAKER_11

I know, I know. Well, look at it it's it's one of these things, and again, we touched on it before that we didn't think there'd be too many short kick outs over the two games. Comfort caught what got caught with one in the first half. Dealing, he probably should have put it in the back of the net. Like the kick that was never on. Um, McDonald goes for Louds, got caught as well for one that he put out that the back kind of had to step into the arc to get it. He got away with it, but as he went down the field, my own dispossessed him and ended up kicking a point. Like, you know, so look at I I think it's it's one of these situations that you know what's the kick out percentage, you know. If the keeper kicks it out long, it's as McGeanie would say, it's piggery around the middle third. Yeah, it's up to the the breaking ball guys, then at that stage to see who's coming up with the ball. And if that stat is going against the keeper, uh you know, it can be harsh enough because he's putting it into that zone, he's putting it into that area, and he's getting tagged with well, you lost this kick out.

SPEAKER_08

So it's I think that's one of the most nonsensical stats in GA is oh, they lost the goalie. So hold on a second, he put the bloody ball out there. So that's off you go and win it yourselves. You know, I I really that really annoys me. And it's like, be a bit more intelligent than that in your analysis, you know. Sorry, I'm opening up some more stats here now for Mayo and and loud this. No, no, no, it's okay. Yeah, I think the whole kick-out thing needs to have a bit more intelligence about analysing it, and I'm sure you in the goalkeepers union would be like, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Any chance we can, don't be giving us abuse.

SPEAKER_11

But look at my but as a keeper as well, if you're kicking it long and you win the break and ball and it goes down as a tick to you, you you know you're happy, you're happy with that.

SPEAKER_08

So, take that when it comes to. So, like, how do you I mean again, slagging with me all friend, my mayo friend today. As I said, we can't, I don't think any of us can answer this till the all-in-la final day. Like, we're loud horrendous, we're mayo awesome. Which, if you had to pick one, you can only pick one. Which one do you think? I would mayo awesome. Mayo awesome, okay.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, give me give me a few. How are you thinking that? Look at they're they're full forward line, right? Like 217 at the weekend. Key McGale comes on, kicks another two. That's 219 out of 223. Like, like that is just off the charts kicking, okay? Hessian, like he is right up there with one of the best players in the country at the moment. Like, he done a massive job on Mull right. And again, young McGrail, Sam Callanan, these boys that are just getting they're just so hungry for the ball and getting turnovers. You know, and like there's like I I suppose if you're asking for three main points the full forward line, and turnovers, because they are priding themselves on turnovers at the moment, and it's like it's it's like I touched on it before, like with Boiler there, Eddie Boyle, right? So, like that's that was his game, you know, dispossess a forward, right? And set me all on an attack, and he done it all through his career, right? That's what they're at now. They're turning players over in their own half, right? And they are gone, they are lightning, they're not sitting back. Like, if you like we'll touch on a few things there in the game, but if you look at the third goal or the Connor Loftus' goal, right? So the ball was one back. Connor Loftus was after coming on the pitch for Stephen Cohen, who again ran himself into the ground, and it's a tactic that they're probably going to persist with, which is working further, don't get me wrong, it's perfect. Um, but Connor Loftus could have rested on his Laurel's out around the middle third, but he just went and he's seen Tommy Conroy going, and Tommy Conroy is a hard man to keep up with. And Loftus kept going, kept going, and Tommy Conroy went to fist the ball over the bar, ball ends up coming into Loftus' hands, and bang, back at the net. And like it was game over before that, but that was just the icing on the cake. Yeah, but like what I'm saying is that they're hungry, they're they're like, we win the ball back, let's let's get a score at the other end. Whereas a lot of teams win a ball back and they just play around with it for maybe 20-30 seconds, and it's a gameplay, it's a set play that's been talked from the sideline. You see players putting the hand up here and there, being slowed the game down. But again, just Mayor just ravenous at the moment, they really are. Like, you know.

SPEAKER_08

I I I would think that uh like say End Heshen, like I think in the last two games he's just been really resilient defensively. He hasn't been all conqueror and running up the pitch now as much as I thought. But the uh but then you know, do you praise him above anyone? Because as a unit, they're really tigris in their defence, and that's why I wrote my notes like they were just tigris. Now, I mean it's not their fault who they were. Even back as far as Meads, which is only what two or three games ago, they were getting cakewalked through. So they've obviously solved that to a point. And again, even the like Stephen Cohen, your average Joe Sophie watching, mightn't take much heed of what he's doing in a game. But it's they always say whenever I'm marking someone, if I'm near them, no will kick the ball to them. So then I'm doing a good job, but I might even get the ball. And that's I always say defender in the right way should never get a ball.

SPEAKER_11

It was it was interesting also that Mayo had won the toss and they decided to play against the breeze in the first half. So it was like, okay, because the dubs won the toss and they played with the breeze in in their match. So look, it it it it kind of backfired a little bit, but it really, really like for Mayo to I suppose, and you're talking like it was a for the first 20-25 minutes, it was an even game, it was tight enough. Um but I think Loud had fallen into the little trap of trying to go for two so they weren't on. Mulroy went for one from 55-60 yards, Kieran Downey went for one from another 55 yards, both dropped really, really short, and again that sucks the life out of teams. Whereas on the other side, against the breeze, that little pocket rocket O'Donnehoo kicks an absolute gem with the outside of the boot for a two-pointer, and you know, it clipped over like that goal, like like loud had the gate had the ball, comfortable, a bad kick pass, just you know, lack of concentration. It's intercepted, kick pass forward, lovely flick on by Kobe. Again, Ryan O'Donnell coming a pace, chips it up into his hand, and a lovely little neat finish underneath McDonald, like you know, and them kind of swings, them little fine margins, you know, it can swing again big time, but like touching on what that full forward line is doing. Like, if you're talking like Darren Byrne there, like the dummy solo that he done for his first point, like the loud defender like bought it hook line and sinker, like he was just gone and comes in, clips it over the bar, and again for his goal just before half time, he had the shot that was half locked down. He doesn't rest on his laurels or stand back and watch what's happening. He goes with the chance that something might happen here in the box when the ball is bouncing around. Callanan picks up a breaking ball, slips it to him, and he buries it into the back of the net with his right foot. You know, so for him that side of things, like Leo, like they deserve massive, massive credit. And look at uh where they were a few weeks ago, no more than the dubs, like where they had are after coming from, and Andy mentioned this team is ready for Crow Park, like innocence of youth, enthusiasm of youth is what I'll be saying because like like them young fellas are just absolutely chomping at the bit, and then like they got another two on, and Fenton Kelly, a young fellow there, and obviously Key McHale comes in, and you know, he's gonna be looking for it because Darburn came off, he he kind of hobbled off the pitch. Now I would say it's nothing too serious. I I'd hope it's nothing too serious because he deserves his day in the sun in two weeks' time as well. But look at they have they have players there again. Look at we mentioned it last week. Aid noche didn't see game time again, so it's just one of these things. But you had obviously Cohn started and Loftus came on for him. Tommy Conroy, Taui started again at 11. Conroy came on for him.

SPEAKER_08

I I love Taui and I think he's maybe a little bit of an unsung here, but he always gets taken off at halftime, really. He does, yeah, but like it's he really connected to the city.

SPEAKER_11

But if you're if if you if you're a management team and you have that tactic and you you know that this is going to happen, like it's it's kind of like it's it's it's a preset move. So even if Taui, I don't know, like I know you clipped a great point just before halftime, like a couple of things hadn't gone very right for him. But again, when you're bringing on somebody like Tommy Conrad there, and like as a cornerback in Crow Park, and you're facing up this animal of a man on a done who goes out then and he starts pulling the strings from 11. And like even for Keen McHale's point when he came on, great kick out by Livingston, nails it to Kobe, who goes up into the clouds, gets down, spins one in outside the right to McHale, who's in oceans of space, waits for the defender to come to him, sells him a dummy, and clips it over the bar. So, like, that's it's like a pre-rehearsed move. It's like something that you just do in training just for the sake of it. Like, I kick it out to you, you spin it in. But again, that's what I'm saying. Like at that stage, Kobe could have turned around and kept possession, or he could have waited after taking the mark and settled the thing down. But they're just going for it, they are going for the juggler. Like, they got ahead of Loud on Saturday evening, and they just kept pumming on them, they went for it. And even right at the death, we have to mention it, with O'Donahu when he got fouled, and the green and red Ameo comes on on the speakers over Crow Park, and people are celebrating round him, and he's like, I'm kicking this, I want this McDonald out of the way, and everything. And he still doesn't get put off by any of that. No, and he nails it over the outside the right, and I and he like that, you know, that's him to a nutshell. He's like, you know, go for the juggler. I would say if it went 30 yards wide, he might have given the same reaction because it was just one of these things let let loose with the outside the right and let's see if it goes over. But look at uh touching on loud, they were a beaten docket a long way out. Obviously, the lost Callan into the red card. Yeah, Matthews, who I thought would have started, got injured during the week in training, so he couldn't start. And then obviously, with the game was in the melting pot after about 25-26 minutes, Craig Lennon goes off. I hope the injury isn't too bad because he's an awesome footballer and wish him well on that side of things. But he goes off with what you know, and then after that, then Grimes kicks the kick at two just after that, and then Lau don't score for 30 minutes. And like at this level, you can't go you can't go five, six, seven minutes, let alone thirty minutes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was unbelievable.

SPEAKER_11

Not enough of their players came to the game. Um like obviously young McArdle in the corner, you know, you know, he had a bad miss in the first half, kind of you know, but like he was like McGrail there as a little dog, little terrier in a corner back for a young fellow who had off injured the last day early in the game, but you had like Heshen tagged Mulroy, didn't give him a second, he really didn't, and I would say Mulroy was probably he looked injured because if you think back just before half time, he went for a two on the buzzer. He was after kicking a two off the ground, he goes for a two on the buzzer out of his hands, which is unlike him, yeah, and doesn't connect with it, goes wide. That sucks the life out of you. Um, Kieran Downey came to the game, he really did. He drove at he drove at them, he kicked a couple of great scores. He ended up with six, I think. But even their subs that have come on and made a difference the last day. Tiger McDonald didn't come to the game. Um, Kieran Byrne came on, got no rewards.

SPEAKER_08

No, he didn't seem to get into the tall.

SPEAKER_11

Sarah McDonald at six tried, he had a great first half.

SPEAKER_08

The first half, and he didn't do much in the second half that I can come to mind, uh, especially at the spectacular, you know.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, but like caught some great ball, and I think there was one stage that he got a massive massive mark from it from a Mayo kick out. And again, I'm talking about taking the wrong option, but this was because they had the breeze behind them. He went for a spinner outside of the left to nobody, and it goes out for a white ball, and ends up with Mayo having a kick out again. So, again, look at them small little margins, you know, they're when you're not getting any result from that. So, and as I said, Loud were a beating Docket from a long way out, and kudos.

SPEAKER_08

There was an awful lot of bad mistakes, and again, you're trying to go, you wonder for the final, whatever, but like you have to also have just written written here uh Mayo's bench scored one one, what is it here? Now I have it, one four, one, three, one three. Sorry. Loft has got a goal, Ruan got a point, and Kimikale got two, and like uh Loud at a point, but even Dublin and Kerry, they only had a point each, but you know, Mayo, you might not have at the beginning of the game looked on the bench and gone, oh, that's gonna turn it. But like their midfield has been kind of iffy in games, but maybe Matthew Ruan comes back in there. Um, you know, like like but by the way, the the biggest impact of the bench is probably Tommy Conroy, like yeah the speed and the trouble he caused. And I look, I can't remember exactly, but he definitely led to some scores by his runs and his Yeah, well, like that that go that lost his goal.

SPEAKER_11

But like Matty Ruan, who has come in there and look at it, like it there's a few weeks ago that he wasn't making the 26 for whatever reason. He went back and he went back and he played with his club Brafey, and he played a couple of league games and he got his form back. And like the management team in Mayo like deserve credit for that for letting him, you know, go back, find your form playing football because it's it's very hard when you're when you're a sub and you're not getting game time to improve your own game because you're just not there, you're not getting enough football to improve your game. He went back, played with his club, comes back in, gets back in the 26, coming on in the last few games. I've seen him score that point in Crow Park several times from that side, coming in at pace. So again, he's going to be knocking down the door for the next two weeks, saying, I want to be on the team sheet for the All-Inland final, and this is what you need. Like, like for me all coming in for the next two weeks of training, like they have to be bouncing around the place, like they are on cloud nine at the moment. Like we mentioned before that they're in bonus territory, right? Talk about being a bonus territory in all Ireland final in the management's first year. Like they said that they're developing, they said that they're a crow park team. All Ireland final is there. Like, why not? Like, like look who look at the results that we're getting in football this year.

SPEAKER_08

Like, it's there's every year where Mayo can banish the hoodoo, like everything's set up for this. Like, and Kerry have uh again. I keep saying this, like, but we won't know till after the final. If Kerry got in hammer, then you go, Oh well, Kerry, Tyrone were a top-class team, Dublin were on form, a good team, so Kerry showed their form there like a racehorse. Uh, maybe you could argue Cork and Loud did not play well against Mayo, but if Mayo win, we go, yeah, but Mayo didn't let Cork or Loud win 100% Dublin, Cork have been doing it. So it's it's that real anomaly the moment going, we don't know. We don't know who's who's driving off.

SPEAKER_11

That and that's the beauty of the game at the moment. Yeah, you you like you you can't call it, and like you you talk about a team on form at the moment, right? Bang, there they are, right? Staring us in the face, and people keep knocking them, and they keep coming down and kicking down that door and saying, We're there on Merit, we are where we are. And like obviously, they had their management team pictured there on Sunday in Croker watching the game. And you've probably seen Andy's little bit of a rant at one of the journalists, also. But again, that was kind of like a call to arms. He was like, Here, let's get the supporters behind us, let's row in. And like obviously, you have some of the most passionate supporters in the country who had more or less kind of deserted them over the last couple of years. And he mentioned that the county has been starved for the last four or five years. But look at they're back where they are. Um, obviously, they have a huge task ahead of them. What's what's awaiting in two weeks, like you know, Kerry going for back to back, but like they're there and they're gonna be coming up with a plan, and they're gonna be saying to themselves, right, let Mayo come up with a plan, like or let Kerry come up with a plan to stop us, just as much as we're coming up with a plan to stop them. Because I would tell you something like that full forward line, and like even Kobe, like the last day, he had a couple short, he had one or two wide, but he ends up with four points from play, a fisted effort, and then two great scores in the second half when like he won his own ball. It wasn't as if that it was you know an easy ball to win, like it was like you know, 50-50 ball coming into him. He makes it stick, like, and that's you know, there's no second bite of the cherry. He makes it stick and he turns and he flicks it over. And again, as we said it before, he heads for the crowd with that fist up or that finger wagon, and good luck to him, I tell you. Good luck to him.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but I love that's coming in more and more. And someone gave out about David Clifford celebrating after the last point. It's like he was probably under pressure, he'd been marked tightly for a lot of the game. He'd he's seen Dublin missing goals. He was probably like, God, this is so there is that relief, and again, even as a when you win in all Ireland or a county meddler, and it's as much relief as it is delight.

SPEAKER_11

You know, it's like he got he got chastised for celebrating, like said it was over-the-top celebration, right? You're after scoring the insurance point in all Ireland semi-final, getting your county back. He was the captain on the day, right? I'm sure off camera he got some uh unfair treatment, we'll call it.

SPEAKER_08

Well, he was getting booed by the thing, which is all a bit of crack, you know.

SPEAKER_11

But of course it is, it's the Jekyll and Height situation, but that was like letting loose after he kicks the you know the score, and he goes to the crowd and he gives it to them, and he ends up with one five in the day, right? Um so like it's look at him. Obviously, he missed the penalty, and just touching back on the penalty. Uh, it's not too often you see it happen, and I I know what the World Cup is on at the moment. So when the penalty obviously was given, and there was a bit of you know, Argy Bargie, whatever was going on, Sean O'Shea had the ball in the hand. I don't know if you noticed that or not. I didn't think Cumberford had gone to his little notebook to see. Oh, I did see this on the camera, actually. Sorry, that big and then obviously the soccer trick at the moment, Shawnee O'Shea gives the ball to Clifford, and Comerford has to go back to his book. So did he go the right way? Of course he went the right way and he saved us. Unfortunately, Clifford nails the rebound.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

We're talking about games of inches and small margins. That's a very small margin. Like he that ball could have broke to the far side. That was Kerry's first score in the game, just after Cormacostolo got a two at the start of the game. It gives him a foothold in it, it gives him a platform starting up against the breeze. But again, it was interesting to see that the keeper was doing that. You know, it's kind of it's one of these things that's coming into it, like you know, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And I could just come back to Kobe there, just you were mentioning him. If the AFL hadn't signed him up before Sunday, that catch he did in the second half. Yeah, he accidentally nailed one of the lads. Mulroy, maybe. I was like, they would definitely be signing him up for that after that.

SPEAKER_11

Of course, because you see, you see that happening in every Aussie Rules game. Yeah, it was an accidental collision, but like it'll show the height that he got up, like his knee went up into Mulroy's ribcage, who was off the ground, also. Yeah, so you know, he's just a serious athlete, and he's he's only 18 years of age. And I suppose I think I read yesterday that he's born in December. So if it was a couple of weeks later, we wouldn't have seen Kobe at all this year because he wouldn't have been eligible to play. So that'll show you actually how young he is. Well what I mean. Yeah, just on the cusp of yeah, he he he really is. But look, it's it's it's one of these things. I will, you know, we're gonna have an interesting two weeks ahead of ourselves, and I think we're in for a ding-dong battle in two weeks, also, to be honest.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I well, and before I finish, uh just come back on Rainer Dunnahu as well. Uh like, I mean, I know this is a golem man speaking, but like you, as I always say, you call as you see it, but to me, he's as up there as Clifford for player of the year. He's leading a team that's in transition by most people's, even Andy Moran kind of said it was a two-three project, as far as I know. And Clifford is leading the All-Ireland champions with a bunch of rockstars all around the pitch. So, like, well, the final decided, but like what Reiner Dunner, who has scored and fought for, and battled, and brought his team into games and certain things, I think has just been sensational. And then, like, then you have Byrne and Kobe on top of that, like you know what I mean. It'll be an interesting uh player of the year. Well, when we well, we'll know in two weeks' time, we'll have a good idea after that match who's going to get it, anyways, for sure. Like, definitely, yeah, yeah. Uh well, look, uh, the next time we're back on screen, we'll be uh looking a bit all a little bit tidier. And we're going to be live. Uh, we're gonna announce it now, we're gonna be live in the village in uh it's my own local bar here in Carton in Sligo Town. Anyone around there will know it. Be free. We're gonna do buckets of the night for Assisting Fibrosis Ireland. We have a few guests hopefully lined up. We'll just get the final details on them. So it'll be a great night. It's free in, and as I said, just drop us a DM if you want to come along so we can get an idea on numbers because depending on who the guest is when we're announced now, it could could sell out awful quickly. But uh, Darren, I was gonna say you go enjoy the sun, but we both go and enjoy the sun because uh I'm I'm cooking here now by the end of this in my little office here. Uh and uh yeah, go enjoy the holidays and sure. We'll see you well, next week we'll be we'll be all back. And maybe Galway will be the hurling on Ireland Champions by then.

SPEAKER_07

So you never know, you never know what will happen.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, but look at look at as I said, like if we're in Thursdays a week, we're gonna be doing that, and it's for a fantastic cause aerosistic fibrosis. And it's anybody that can come along, do come along, please.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, no, we'll have great fun. If it's Antwerp last year's one, we'll have plenty of crack. Yeah, 100%. All right, thanks for watching. Again, like, share, comment, tell people about us, argue with us. We all love it, it's all good crack. We'll see you next time. Friends and holidays, I'm roasting here in Sligo. We can't use the studio today, so hence why we look like this. But you're all welcome back. Straight in, Darren. Wonder why Joe Brennan never asked for video technology we brought in two weeks ago. He didn't seem to say anything after that game.

SPEAKER_11

Definitely not, definitely not. He refrained, he refrained from it that day. But look at I suppose what he's saying is because they obviously lost the game. You know what I mean? Like the decisions he's highlighting is because they're out of the championship, and that's kind of the main gripe that he had in a straight after the game, and he's just you know, it's off the cuff, it's one of these things that that that happens.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, and look, I'm I'm having like I fully think that you could argue that um um oh my god, the wing forward uh Joe Connor, he nearly shouldered into a coffee burn. But like if the ref couldn't see that as much as we could in the other angle, you kind of give you can give the ref a bit of a benefit of the doubt. Uh the the square ball, um like like a fairness. I don't know if you've ever umpired, like to look at oh who kicked it when and then lookwards or something. Like it's uh someone said on Neil Ewing said on Twitter yesterday, said like it's almost uncontrollable, it's nearly impossible to manage that rule. So I don't know how they tweak or change that. But Jamal was in it, he did leave and then go back again, you know. So you're the umpire good. I mean, I can understand the umpire not seeing the goal that hit off uh I forget which player blocked it on the case. Mike Green, Mike Green on the line. Yeah, so and again, even in replays, like if it went to a VAR situation, like you could actually have found it. Look from naked eye that there might have been a teeny bit of the ball out over the line, but again, yeah, absolutely for important goals. I think the there probably is a space for something else. So uh Cora Stone said on the late on the Sunday game that it's in ladies' football.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, I wasn't aware, I wasn't aware of that either. And I'd be interested to see what they use. I think she said something like they have 30 seconds to go to the van or the camera outside and get notification in. And or obviously the referson running out to the truck, but I presume we have somebody watching it and they give 30 seconds. But for like, look at we've mentioned it before with Hawkeye. Um, a few years ago, there was an issue with Hawkeye in Crow Park with Shane Watch for goal with a 45 that was over the bar, that was route wide, and then all of a sudden it got changed at halftime, and the score went up on the scoreboard, and there was a big roar going out from the crowd. So, like, you know, we're talking about um Hawkeye being in Croker, and I think it's in Tarlus as well. So it's only in two of the stadium. So, are you gonna say you're gonna bring in the little VAR camera for the goal line technology just in Crow Park, or is it going to be nationwide? Like, like it's a very grey area because you're you're gonna open it, you open up a huge can of worms there to see okay, well, it's not used in a qualifier game or it's not used in a provincial final, but yet when we get to Crow Park, it's used. Is it used in National League? Like it's just it's it's a huge discussion. It's probably one that's going to be highlighted as we're going forward. Whether anything is going to happen now because of it, I don't really know. But yeah, you're I seen I seen the the tweet from from Bob yesterday saying about that the umpires have enough to be doing. They're looking for 40 yards out to see where he's kicking the ball from. Yeah, they're standing back. Like in that situation, like, does the umpire really need to stand back in Crow Park when he has Hawkeye to fall back on? True, that's a good point. Like, uh, but like obviously there the umpires are being told stand back and make sure you can see the ball coming over the bar, etc. etc., or going over the poster, whatever it is. I know you're talking there's millimeters in it, but yeah, these are huge, huge situations, and uh the umpire couldn't call it, the ref couldn't call it. Like, even watching the replays, we had the benefit of it on the TV replays, and we're still not 100% sure. So, like, yeah, we're like, where do you stop? And with the Okofi Brown one on Joe O'Connor for the penalty incident, the one that you mentioned there firstly, like it looked worse than it actually was when you look back in the replay. Like, but sir, if you go back over any game, like there's fellas, you you look at the Tyrone and Roscoming game for for a matter of fact, there, like like young MacInholm had grabbed the Roscommon man's arm to pull him down. So, like it's one of these things. Uh that that's a referee decision, like you know.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I think the blade ones, I mean, if if you can give a if you can give the ref uh the benefit of the doubt, there he wasn't at the camera angle we've seen afterwards. And it did look from first glance that O'Coffee Byrne went in frontal. Now he probably could have changed his body shape a little bit differently, but like you're getting into real nitpicking. But the goal line one isn't really the ref or the umpire's fault, to my pro in my it's it would be within the GA rules. But I suppose if you're saying you know you won't get the VAO or the video goal line technology in every stadium, but I Least when it comes to Crow Park, they're knockout games. So imagine if you had it for quarterfinal, semi-final, final. Whereas in other earlier rounds, if it's in county grounds, you could say, Well, look, even if there's a bit of bad luck, you're not out. So maybe that would be the only argument for.

SPEAKER_11

But again, it depends on what the cost is. Yeah, look, it it's it's it's it's one that's for discussion and debate. And I'm sure because it's highlighted now, um, it's one of these things that will be will be spoken about. But again, I think that there's it it it could be years down the line before you see anything happening in relation to that.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we wouldn't be wouldn't be expecting it. So I suppose getting more into the nitty-gritty of the game, uh, like I text you, Jordan, I said it's a it's a real game of chess. If you love your tactics, it was intriguing, but it was it wasn't the best of games, really. Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, like so some of the quality was a little bit poor on it. Um, I think we had highlighted some of the matchups that we were going to get. Now, Sean McMahon was ruled out before the game. Um, so he obviously wasn't picking up Clifford, but Davy Byrne picked up Clifford on that side of it, and then we said on the other side of it that you know you'd be looking at the likes of Jason Foley picking up Conn. Um, I would say, you know, there was a lot of other arguments, and looking back on the game, like I I seen it was very similar with Paudy Clifford what happened with the All-Iland final last year with Jenny Gaulle. Like he was less he got the run of the pitch, okay. And I'm sure if Joe Brennan had his time back or his tactics back, or he was looking back in the game himself, he was saying, Well, we should have pushed out on him. Now, we had said we had highlighted here before that if you let Paudig dictate the game, he goes a long way to deciding the outcome of it. And I think they that was nailed on on Sunday for what happened because like I think he had over 70 possessions again. Um, he scored five points himself. Which was mad, like you know, but like like he really drove at them in the second half, but like in even in the first half, he was over and back the field with the ball, and there was no pressure coming on him. Um, on the other side of things with Jason Foley and Khan, like I think Jason Foley done a massive, massive job on Conn. I know that he was nullified.

SPEAKER_08

Like, and we had said that he might be 100% fit. Um well, if you're not fit and you're coming up against Jason Foley, it's a different animal to some of the players he might have come up against. Like he scored, I know we said it won in the podcast, like one seven in a game, one nine. Was it I forget what he got against Golden, one five or something like that. So he he was fairly well wrapped up with that. He got a two the last day, like you know, yeah, but he only got one score and it was a two-pointer. So I mean, we do want to start previewing the final, but you know, we obviously we'll talk a little bit later on about the Mayo forwards. Uh see as I said to my Mayo friend there, so we'll only get all our answers after the final where everything is at, like you know, but James could only definitely be. But David Clifford, like he's been triple marked at some points, and he still gets one five.

SPEAKER_11

So the entire question of how do you mark it? Look at like we we we have we have asked the question here before what's what's the good output outcome when you're marking David Clifford? Is it one four, one five, is it eight points, which I think is in the modern game now. I think that's kind of acceptable because like David Byrne done a massive job at him. Now he had a lot of help from other guys falling back in, and he was double marked and he was triple marked. And at one stage in the second half, I think he pushed it a little bit when he got his kick blocked down, but doubling came down the pitch for a goal chance, which was a huge, huge swinging point in the game because a doubler would get that to go six up. Sifford was a little bit annoyed at the time, that's why he went for that two, gets blocked down. All of a sudden, it doesn't go in, which you would have expecting Conn to rat the back of the net. Great save by Murphy again, and all of a sudden, Terry come down the field and they get their major by a dubious goal. Are we going to call it a dubious goal? Um technically, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But but I mean, yeah, I as I said, I think there's we won't go back on it now, but I think there's there's an argument to go like God, do you do you change the whole square ball?

SPEAKER_11

You know, yeah, but like but but that it but but but that little that little section in the game, that little 30, 40, 50 seconds, like that decide of the game.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_11

Because like once Kerry got that goal, they got themselves back into the game because Dublin were after coming out in the second half, and they were after absolutely nailing Kerry on kick outside. The first three kickouts in the second half, as far as they really had, and then all of a sudden, within five, seven minutes, Kerry are gone two, three, four, five, six up. And you know, it's it's like, yes, they got that goal chance again, which was you know, but Kerry were putting bodies on the line there, like Foley came up with a massive block after Murphy had saved it onto the post, and you had Paul Murphy and Mike Green back on the line, and then the ball breaks out again and Foley blocks it, and then a Kerry defender ends up picking it up, and he gets fouled, and it's just like they relaxed, and they won the game at their ease, really, towards the end. Yeah, you know, they were they and but like but like credit to the dubs. Like I will give massive crudos to them because like they stuck at the game, they had a game plan. Some of their players were excellent, like with Conn nullified, like Cormac Costello came to the fore and like he clipped over seven points. Um, yeah, Charlie McMorrow again, who I've mentioned before, is having an outstanding year, who I thought was going to tag Body Clifford, but he kind of had a free run himself. He ends up kicking two massive points. He went for a third one that drifted a little bit wide, you know. So there's very, very small margins. But I suppose when you're looking from the outside in, like Kerry will have to tidy up an awful lot of stuff with all-in-final because Jack O'Connor, I listened to his interviews after the game, he wasn't overly impressed. Now he had a bit of a bite back at a journalist at one stage about you know one of the questions that journalists asked him. But like, this is just you know, this is straight after the game. There, you know, you're you know like tensions are high, you know. It doesn't take much to rattle these people at this occasion, like you know. But look at Kerry got across the line. The dubs obviously give themselves a pat on the back, done very well from where they were six or seven weeks ago to be saying that they could have bet Kerry, like like you know, it wasn't beyond the bounds of possibility, like they had a lot of wides.

Okay, it was a tense first half, and said to me at halftime, like, oh, that win, and they just once they got their chance, and their goal, be it fortuitous enough or not, but you can go even go back to that. Dillingy, it was a failed attempt, but it also showed you high ball in. There happened to be a big massive man in there, so there must have been some slight bit of a uh a tactic, too.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, or there is and and because I had said that's what Kerry will do on occasions. I said this last week that that the likes of them four giants they have in that middle third, some of them go in and they hang around the house. And more often than not, it's to release Clifford or release Deaney, or I know Paul Geney wasn't playing with Sean or Shea around the arc. But when the ball does go in, you have a big man there. And when it did drop short, he got his hand to it. And look at that's that's the turner point. But touching on Paul Geeney missing out and Sean O'Shea starting, like I thought he had a massive game as well. Yeah, and interesting enough, I think uh the the the advanced mark it was it was used a number of times over the weekend for the first time in a long time that you see.

SPEAKER_08

True, and especially having cliffs, you think give it a chance, you'll usually catch it over the head, but it uh I think twice it fell to the wrong people.

SPEAKER_11

Like, yeah, it it did, yeah. It they definitely did. Like I know, like like Murphy had some ten years of kick outs, and Comeford had the far side, but I'd say may all be looking at what Dublin done for the first 10 minutes after halftime, and they really really pushed up on the Kerry kick out and didn't give them a free option. And when it went long and it went high, like they were really, really strong and determined under the break of ball, and it gave them a great platform at the start of the second half. Look at it, wasn't enough in the end because I think Kerry's little bit of know-how got them across the line, really. But again, uh Tomas Kennedy came on for his first appearance in a while. He wasn't in the 26th the last day, he ends up fisting a point over. Uh young Evan Looney came on and done well. I think that his grandmother had passed away the days previous to that. So, like, he deserves cuddles for talking out and coming up to the game. I'm sure, I'm sure his family will be proud of him for doing that, and he had a part to play in the game as well. But look at it's one of these things, Kerry or back and finally.

SPEAKER_08

Uh well, we're just well used to saying that. Like, and I just I noticed that the two benches only got a point, a point each. Uh Tomas Kennedy came on for Kerry, and then Buggler came on and got a point. So, like, do Kerry, you know, you look to the Kerry subs, you know, there's a few good players, maybe just not enough household names that are going to be clipping points for you, you know.

SPEAKER_11

So yeah, well, that's that's exactly it. Like, I know Killian Spillan didn't get any game time, Tony Sulva didn't get any game time, Tony Brosen didn't get any game time. Like, these are established Kerry footballers over the years, like, and they didn't see any game time at at the weekend, like you know. So look at they'll be pushing each other on for the next two weeks. But again, look at it, it was it was it was very tactical, it was like it was as you had mentioned, it was a kind of like a game of chess, especially at times like like you know, and I thought that Kerry would do that because the dubs more so would want it to be a shootout up and down the field, but like once Kerry got to grips with them in the second half, they kind of they played the game on their own terms, and even at the end there, you see that the they walked the ball into the corner and Sefford ended up kicking her up onto level seven. I'm not sure if they just oh no, I see the video. Some guy got it cleanly, there was a big chip. But I don't know.

SPEAKER_08

Did he get out of Crow Park with that ball? Uh tight to get out of there, I'd say what that's uh but again, even like I know we mentioned uh Shoney O'Shea, but I thought, like, especially the first half, Graham Sullivan, Gavin White, she kind of got quiet in the second half, but even Joe O'Connor, I thought, had much more in bigger influence in the last few games. So if you're Mayo, you're you're starting to go, oh god, where do we start?

SPEAKER_11

Like marking the game. Well, there's a look at it, of course, and it's it's one of these things that you're you have to plan for all of these guys, like Graham Sullivan kicked two points. It's not too often you see Graham Sullivan kicking two points in a game, to be honest. It's usually one of the other wing backs, or or sometimes he's in in the wing forward position as well, but he clipped them over and he ran himself into the ground and or Bugdlock come on then with another 20-25 to go. Like it's look at the they have they have some awesome players coming off the bench, and they have like they've decided like empty the tank, don't leave anything in reserve. Like again, they're after getting another full game into Sean Yoshe. And I I thought that even if Geney had been fit, that he might have started anyway. Turned out that Ganey didn't make the match day panel, and Killian Spillan took his 14 because he was on one of the standby players. So look at it's it's one of these things there they are where they are, and it's it's it's up to Mayo now to come up with a plan.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. Well, to kind of cross over between the games, uh, just one thing I noticed we all say the kick-outs, the new rules is all about the kick outs, and uh again, stats, courtesy gaelic stats with page. Kerry had 63%, won 63% of their own kick outs and they won the match. Dublin had 71% and they lost, and then in the next now we go into Mayo, and he won 47% of their kick outs, and Loud won 61%, and Mayo won and Loud lost. So the team that had less of their kick out percentage win uh won the game. So in this crazy season, even the most common stat that seemed to be there all year, it's now gonna go on.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, maybe that's not what you need after all. You know, I know, I know. Well, look at it it's it's one of these things, and again, we touched on it before that we didn't think there'd be too many short kick outs over the two games. Comfort caught what got caught with one in the first half. Dealing, he probably should have put it in the back of the net. Like the kick that was never on. Um, McDonald goals for Louds got caught as well for one that he put out that the back kind of had to step into the air to get it. He got away with it, but as he went down the field, my own dispossessed him and ended up kicking a point. Like you know, so look at I I think it's it's one of these situations that you know what's the kick out percentage, you know. If the keeper kicks it out long, it's as McDini would say, it's piggery around the middle third. Yeah, it's up to the the breaking ball guys then at that stage to see who's coming up with the ball. And if that stat is going against the keeper, uh you know, it can be harsh enough because he's putting it into that zone, he's putting it into that area very much, and he's getting tagged with while you lost this kick out.

SPEAKER_08

So it's I think that's one of the most nonsensical stats in GA is oh, they lost the goalie. So hold on a second, he put the bloody ball out there. So lads, off you go and win it yourselves. You know, I I really that really annoys me. And it's like, be a bit more intelligent than that in your analysis, you know. Sorry, I'm opening up some more stats here now for Mayo and and loud. No, no, that's okay. Yeah, but like, yeah, I think the whole kick out thing needs to have a bit more intelligence about analysing it, and I'm sure you in the goalkeepers union would be like, Yeah, yeah, yeah, any chance we can, don't be giving us abuse.

SPEAKER_11

Well, look at but as a keeper as well, if you're ticking it long and you win the break of ball and it goes down as a tick to you, you know you're happy, you're happy with that.

SPEAKER_08

So take that when it comes to possible point, really. Yeah, so so like how do you I mean again, slagging with me old my Mayo friend today? As I said, we can't, I don't think any of us can answer this till the all on the final day. Like, we're loud horrendous, we're mayo awesome. Which if you have to pick one, you can only pick one. Which one do you think?

SPEAKER_11

I will mayo awesome, mayo awesome.

SPEAKER_08

Mayo awesome, okay.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, and give me three, give me, give me a few to why you think of that. Look at they're they're a full forward line, right? Like 217 at the weekend. Key McHale comes on, kicks another two. That's 219 out of 223. Like, like that is just off the charts kicking, okay? Hessian, like he is right up there with one of the best players in the country at the moment. Like, he done a massive job on Munright. And again, young McGrail, Sam Callanan, these boys that are just getting they're just so hungry for the ball and getting turnovers. You know, and like there's like I suppose if you're asking for three main points the full forward line, Hession, and turnovers, because they are priding themselves on turnovers at the moment, and it's like it's it's like I touched on it before, like with Boyler there, Eddie Boyle, right? So, like that's that was his game, you know, dispossess a forward, right? And set May O on an attack, and he'd done it all through his career, right? That's what they're at now. They're turning players over in their own half, right? And they are gone, they are light and they're not sitting back. Like, if you like we touch on a few things there in the game, but if you look at the third goal or the Connor Loftus' goal, right? So the ball was one back. Connor Loftus was after coming on the pitch for Stephen Cohen, who again ran himself into the ground, and it's a tactic that they're probably going to persist with, which is working further, don't get me wrong, it's perfect. Um, but Connor Loftus could have rested on his laurels out around the middle third, but he just went and he's seen Tommy Connery going, and Tommy Conroy is a hard man to keep up with. And Loftus kept going, kept going, and Tommy Connery went to fist the ball over the bar, ball ends up coming into Loftus' hands, and bang, back the net. And like it was game over before that, but that was just the icing on the cake. But like what I'm saying is that they're hungry, they're they're like, we win the ball back, let's let's get a score at the other end. Whereas a lot of teams win a ball back and they just play around with it for maybe 20-30 seconds, and it's a gameplay, it's a set play that's been talked from the sideline. You see players putting the hand up here and there, being slow the game down. But again, just they are just ravenous at the moment, they really are enough.

SPEAKER_08

I I I would think that uh, like say Endaheson, like I think in the last two games he's just been really resilient defensively. He hasn't been all conquering running up the pitch now as much as I thought. But the but then you know, do you do you praise him above anyone? Because as a unit, they're really tigris in their defence. That's why I wrote my notes. Like they were just tigris. Now, I mean it's not their fault who they were playing, and we won't know how tigris they are until the pick.

SPEAKER_11

No, of course, of course, of course not. But but like they've they've really tightened up in defence, like like there is did they give away a goal chance against Loud at the weekend?

SPEAKER_08

So nothing six, but even back as far as Mead, which is only what two or three games ago, yeah, they were getting cakewalked through. So they've obviously solved that to a point. And again, even the likes of Stephen Cohen, your average Joe Sophie watching, mightn't take much heed of what he's doing in a game, but it's uh I always say, whenever I'm marking someone, if I'm near them, no will kick the ball to them.

So look at it it it kind of backfired a little bit, but it really, really like for Mayo to I suppose when you're talking like it was a for the first 20-25 minutes, it was an even game, it was tight enough. Um but I think Loud had fallen into the little trap of trying to go for two so they weren't on. Mulroy went for one from 55-60 yards, Kieran Downey went for one from another 55 yards, both dropped really, really short, and again, that sucks the life out of teams. Whereas on the other side, against the breeze, that little pocket rocket O'Donohue kicks an absolute gem with the outside of the boot for a two-pointer, and you know, it slipped over like that goal, like like Loud had the gate, had the ball, comfortable, a bad kick pass, just you know, lack of concentration, it's intercepted, kick pass forward, lovely flick on by Kobe. Again, Ryan O'Donneho coming at pace, chips it up into his hand, and a lovely little neat finish underneath McDonald, like you know, and them kind of swings, them little fine margins, you know, it can swing again big time, but like touching on what that full forward line is doing. Like if you're talking like Darrell Byrne there, like the dummy solo that he done for his first point, like the loud defender like bought it hook line at center, like he was just gone and comes in, flips it over the bar, and again for his goal just before half time, he had the shot that was half locked down. He doesn't rest on his laurels or stand back and watch what's happening. He goes with the chance that something might happen here in the box when the ball is bouncing around. Callin and picks up a breaking ball, slips it to him, and he buries it into the back of the net with his right foot. You know, so for him that side of things, like Leo, like they deserve massive, massive credit. And look at uh where they were a few weeks ago, no more than the dubs, like where they had are after coming from, and uh Andy mentioned this team is ready for Club Park, like innocence of youth, enthusiasm of youth is what I'll be saying because like like them young fellas are just absolutely chomping at the bit, and then like they got another two on and Fenton Kelly, a young fellow there, and obviously Key McHale comes in, and you know he's going to be looking for it because Darburn came off, he he kind of hobbled off the pitch. Now I would say it's nothing too serious. I I'd hope it's nothing too serious because he deserves to stay in the sun in two weeks' time as well. But look at they have they have players there again, but we mentioned it last week. Didn't see game time again, so it's just one of these things. But you had obviously cohn started and Loftus came on for him, Tommy Conroy. Taui started again at 11. Conroy came off.

SPEAKER_08

I I love Taui and I think he's maybe a little bit of an unsung here, but he always gets taken off at halftime, nearly.

SPEAKER_11

But if you're if if you if you're a management team and you have that tactic and you you know that this is going to happen, like it's it's kind of like it's it's it's a preset move. So even if Tawy, I don't know, like I know you clipped a great point just before halftime, like a couple of things hadn't gone very right for him. But again, when you're bringing on somebody like Tommy Conrad here, and like as a cornerback in Crow Park, and you're facing up this animal of a man on a done who goes out then and he starts pulling the strings from 11. So, like, that's it's like a pre-rehearse move. It's like something that you just do in training just for the sake of it. Like, I kick it out to you, you spin it in. But again, that's what I'm saying. Like at that stage, Kobe could have turned around and kept possession, or he could have waited after taking the mark and settled the thing down, but they're just going for it. They are going for the juggler, like they got ahead of Loud on Saturday evening, and they just kept pumming on them, they went for it, and even right at the death, we have to mention it, with O'Donahu when he got fouled. And the green and red ameo comes on on the speakers over Crow Park, and people are celebrating round him, and he's like, I'm kicking this, and I want this, McDonald out of the way, and everything. And he still doesn't get put off by any of that. No, and he nails it over the outside the right, and I and he like that, you know, that's him to a nutshell. He's like, you know, gold for the juggler. I would say if it went 30 yards wide, he might have given the same reaction because it was just one of these things, let loose with the outside the right and let's see if it goes over. But look at uh touching on loud, they were a beaten docket a long way out. Obviously, they lost Callan to the red card. Yeah, Matthews, who I thought would have started, got injured during the week in training, so he couldn't start. And then obviously, with the game was in the melting pot after about 25 26 minutes, Craig Lennon goes off. I hope the injury isn't too bad because he's an awesome footballer and wish him well on that side of things. But he goes off with what you know, and then after that, then Grimes kicks the kick at two just after that, and then Lau don't score for thirty minutes. And like at this level, you can't go. You can't go five, six, seven minutes, let alone thirty minutes. Yeah, it was unbelievable. Not enough of their players came to the game. Um, like obviously young McArdle in the corner, you know, you know, he had a bad miss in the first half, kind of, you know, but like he was like McGrail there as a little dog, little terrier in a corner back for a young fellow who went off injured the last day early in the game. But you had like Heschen tag Mulroy, didn't give him a second. He really didn't, and I would say Mulroy was probably he looked injured because if you think back just before halftime, he went for a two on the buzzer. But even their subs that have come out and made a difference the last day. Ty McDonald didn't come to the game. Um, Caron Byrne came on, got no rewards. No, didn't seem to get into the toy.

SPEAKER_08

Zara McDonald at six tried, he had a great first half first half, and he didn't do much in the second half that I can that comes to mind, uh, especially spectacular, you know.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, but like Mayor caught some great ball, and I think there was one stage that he got a massive massive mark from it from a Mayo kick out. And again, I'm talking about taking the wrong option, but this was because they had the breeze behind them. He went for a spinner outside of the left to nobody, and it goes out for a wide ball who ends up with Mayo having a kick out again. So, again, look at them small little margins, you know, they're when you're not getting any result from that.

SPEAKER_08

So, and as I said, Loud were a beating docket from a long way off, and there was an awful lot of bad mistakes, and again, you're trying to go, you wonder for the final, whatever, but like you have to also just written written here. Uh, Mayo's bench scored one one. What is it here? Now I have it, one four, one, three, one, three. Sorry. Loft just got a goal, Ruan got a point, and Key McKill got two, and like uh Loud at a point. But even Dublin and Kerry, they only had a point each. But you know, Mayo, you might have at the beginning of the game looked on the bench and gone, oh, that's gonna turn it. But like their midfield has been kind of iffy in games, but maybe Matthew Ruan comes back in there. Um, you know, like like but by the way, the the biggest impact of the bench is probably Tommy Conroy, like yeah, speed and the trouble he caused. And I look, I can't remember exactly, but he definitely led to some scores by his runs and his yeah, well, like that that go that loft's goal.

SPEAKER_11

But like Matty Ruan, who has come in there and look at it, like it there's a few weeks ago that he wasn't making the 26 for whatever reason. He went back and he went back and he played with his club Brafey, and he played a couple of league games and he got his form back. And like the management team in Mayo like deserve credit for that for letting them you know go back, find your form playing football because it's it's very hard when you're when you're a sub and you're not getting game time to improve your own game because you're just not there, you're not getting enough football to improve your game. He went back, played with his club, comes back in, gets back in the 26, coming on in the last few games. I've seen him score that point in Crow Park several times from that side, coming in at pace. So again, he's going to be knocking down the door for the next two weeks, saying, I want to be on the team sheet for the All-Inland final. And this is what you need. Like, like for me all coming in for the next two weeks of training, like they have to be bouncing around the place, like they are on cloud nine at the moment. Yeah, like we mentioned before that they're in bonus territory, right? Talk about being a bonus territory in all Ireland final in the management's first year, like they said that they're developing, they said that they're a crow park team. All Ireland final is there. Like, why not? Like, like, look at the results that we're getting in football this year.

SPEAKER_08

Like, it's if there was every year where Mayo can banish the hoodoo, like everything's set up for this. Like, and Kerry have uh oh again, I keep saying this, like, but we won't know till after the final. If Kerry got in hammer, then you go, Oh, well, Kerry, Tyrone were a top-class team, Dublin were on form, a good team, so Kerry should be formed there like a racehorse. Uh, maybe you could argue Cork and Loud did not play well against Mayo, but if Mayo win, we go, Yeah, but Mayo didn't let Cork or Loud win. 100% Dublin, Cork have been to the go. So it's it's that real anomaly at the moment. Go, we don't know.

SPEAKER_11

We don't know who's right, that's that's that, and that's the beauty of the game at the moment. You like you you can't call it, and like you you talk about a team on form at the moment, right? Bang, there they are, right? Staring us in the face, and people keep knocking them, and they keep coming down and kicking down that door and saying, We're there on Merit, we are where we are. And like obviously, they had their management team pictured there on Sunday in Croker watching the game. Yeah, and you've probably seen Andy's little bit of a rant at one of the journalists, also. But again, that was kind of like a call to arms. He was like, Here, let's get the supporters behind us, let's roll in. And like obviously, they have some of the most passionate supporters in the country who had more or less kind of deserted them over the last couple of years. Because I will tell you something like that full forward line, and like even Kobe, like the last day, he had a couple short, he had one or two wide, but he ends up with four points from play, a fisted effort, and then two great scores in the second half when like he won his own ball.

SPEAKER_08

No, but I love that's coming in more and more. And someone gave out about Dave Clifford celebrating after the last point. It's like he was probably under pressure, he'd been marked tightly for a lot of the game. He'd he's seen Dublin missing goals. He was probably like, God, this is so there is that relief, and again, even though I was saying when you win in all Ireland or a county meddler, and it's as much relief as it is delight.

SPEAKER_11

You know, like yeah, he got he got chastised for celebrating, like said it was over the top celebration, right? You're after scoring the insurance point in all Ireland semi-final, getting your county back. He was the captain on the day, right? I'm sure off camera he got some uh unfair treatment, we call it. Well, he was getting booed by the thing, which is all a bit of crack, you know. Of course it is, it's the Jekyll and Heights situation, but that was like letting loose after he kicks the you know the score and he goes to the crowd and he gives it to them, and he ends up with one five in the day, right? Um so like it's look at him. Obviously, he missed the penalty, and just touching back on the penalty, uh, it's not too often you see it happen, and I know what the World Cup is on at the moment. So when the penalty obviously was given, and there was a bit of you know Argy Bargie or whatever was going on, Sean O'Shea had the ball in the hand. I don't know if you noticed that or not. I didn't and Comerford Cumberford had gone to his little notebook to see. Oh, I did see this on the camera actually, and then obviously the soccer trick at the moment, Shawnee O'Shea gives the ball to Clifford, and Comeford has to go back to his booth. So did he go the right way? Of course he went the right way and he saved us. Unfortunately, Clifford nails the rebound. Yeah, we're talking about games of interest and small margins. That's a very small margin. Like he that ball could have broke to the far side. That was Kerry's first score in the game, just after Cormacostolo got a two at the start of the game. It gives him a foothold in it, gives him a platform starting up against the breeze. But again, it was interesting to see that the keeper was doing that. You know, it's kind of it's one of these things that's coming into it, like you know.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. And I could just come back to Kobe there, just you were mentioning him. If the AFL hadn't signed him up before Sunday, that catch he did in the second half. Yeah, he accidentally nailed one of the live Mulroy, maybe. I was like, they would definitely be signing him up for that after that.

SPEAKER_11

Of course, because you see you see that happening in every Aussie Rules game. Yeah, and it was an accidental collision, but like it'll show the height that he got up, like his knee went up into Mulroy's ribcage, who was off the ground, also. Yeah, so you know, he's just a serious athlete and he's he's only 18 years of age. And I suppose I think I read yesterday that he's born in December. So if it was a couple of weeks later, we wouldn't have seen Kobe at all this year because he wouldn't have been eligible to play. So that'll show you actually how young he is. You know what I mean? Yeah, he's just on the cusp of the case. Yeah, he he he really is. But look, it's it's it's one of these things. I will, you know, we're gonna have an interesting two weeks ahead of ourselves, and I think we're in for a ding-dong battle in two weeks, also, to be honest.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I will, and before I finish, uh, just come back on Rainer Dunnehoo as well. Uh like, I mean, I know this is a golem man speaking, but like you, as I always say, you call it as you see, but to me, he's as up there as Clifford for player of the year. He's leading a team that's in transition by most people's, even Andy More kind of said it was a two or three battle just as far as I know. And Clifford is leading the All Ireland champions with a bunch of rockstars all around the pitch. So, like, well, the final decided, but like what Reiner Dunner, who has scored and fought for and battled, and brought his team into games and certain things, I think has just been sensational. And then, like, then you have Byrne and Kobe on top of that, like you know. We do, of course. It'll be an interesting uh player of the year. Well, when we well, we'll know in two weeks' time, we'll have a good idea after that match who's going to get it, anyways, for sure. Definitely, yeah. Yeah. Uh well, look, uh, the next time we're back on screen, we'll be uh looking a bit all a little bit tidier. And we're going to be live. Um, we're gonna announce it now, we're gonna be live in the village in. Uh it's my own local bar here in Carton in Sligo Town. Anyone around there will know it. It'll be free. We're gonna do buckets tonight for Sisting Fibrosis Ireland. We'll see uh well next week we'll be we'll be all back. And maybe Galway will be the Hurlan Hollery Champions by then.

SPEAKER_11

So you never know, you never know what could happen. Yeah, but look at look at as I said, like if we're in thirds a week, we're gonna be doing that, and it's for a fantastic cause there is fibrosis. And it's anybody that can come along, do come along, please.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, no, we'll have great fun. If it's Antwoe last year's one, we'll have plenty of crack. Yeah, 100%. All right, thanks for watching. Again, like, share, comment, tell people about us, argue with us. We all love it, it's all we're gonna see you next time.
