Who would have thought it? Mayo are the All Ireland champions. Welcome back to our All Ireland review. This will be the final of our uh All Ireland Football Championship podcast of this year. Darren, we're here finally. As I said the other day, I can't wait for the final to be over. As in, we'll know the answers to all those questions. You know, did Mayo have a soft run? Were Kerry actually playing good teams and did it show well? But they did it, and like what a magic moment. I know we were both very lucky to be in the stadium on the day. Did you ever hear Anthony like the roar at full time?
SPEAKER_00Definitely not, no. Um look at it, it's just it was you know, the hairs are standing in the back of your neck, and like either of us are not from Mayo. Yeah and you're getting that feeling, so you can obviously you've seen the scenes that's happening since the final whistle blew on Sunday, but yeah, look at it's just to be from Mayo and be associated with the Mayo team there now, and their supporters local and worldwide, I'm sure, are just they're thriving on it at the moment.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like it lifted the county, but I think it lifted the country. Like, I can't remember the last sporting event, even globally, that there was obviously we're living in this country, so it's closer to us, but the release, like even when Leicester won the Premier League, it's gonna ironise. But like this, I think it was it wasn't a famine, it was a famine like injected with so much pain.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, I suppose I think uh I was listening to somebody today, they had mentioned that with Claire in the hurling back in the day, past the social media stage when it wasn't so prevalent, but Claire hadn't lost the finals that Mayo had lost, yeah, and the way that Mayo had lost some of the finals, like you go back through it, and like like we mentioned it before, like you have OGs, you have hitting the post, you have last-minute freeze, you have balls bouncing over the bar, yeah. Um, you know, so you have every, every every sort of loss. Like it's just it's absolutely ridiculous.
SPEAKER_01Someone said it was uh Ender McGinley, I think, said it on one of the podcasts, the RT podcast, and he said, Oh, the curse had to be real. He said, Like, how does it make sense otherwise? Like, you know what I mean? The amount of bad luck there was. And the amount of Mayo people I met afterwards, there was a kind of a calm and a shock. They weren't actually going that mad. And and it was John Mahan was saying on another podcast, he said his legs were shaking at the end. Like I'd say if you were a psychologist, you'd be like you're releasing the trauma now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you probably are, yeah. Yeah, and that was that was the feeling in the stadium, I thought, with a lot of the supporters that was around me. It was a relief, and it was shock also that this was actually happening. And I suppose we're gonna touch on it in a couple of minutes about what happened during the game, but like from a long way out, you could see that Mio were very, very close to winning it. And I don't think even when they were going a few points up, some of the supporters didn't believe what was happening in front of their eyes, which you know is it's crazy to think, like you know.
SPEAKER_01But commentators, neutral commentators crying, tears in their eyes. Like it was it was just it was insane to be there. And I remember I was leaving out the stands and was this grown man, I mean howling, crying, walking up by his hands in his head. Yeah, so and I I think if anyone doesn't understand sport, you should probably watch that match back. You should look at some of the social media, it's unavoidable at the moment. Of course it is, yeah. And like, look at we know the the golem rival and the great crack and all of that out. But I've always said, if you're a decent sports person, you couldn't deny well, you couldn't deny the player's manager, but like when you see the joy around the county, you know. I actually met a friend of mine mayo that night that said, I'll get a taxi across the city and I need to buy you a pint, you know. Yeah, so there was a genuine, I think.
SPEAKER_00Oh, because you couldn't begrudge them, you know, not not in any way, shape, or form. And I don't think anybody has, yeah to be fair. Like and people are like, as you said, social media is unavoidable at the moment, but even like if you look at the Australian news, picked it up, also just showing what was actually happening, you know, back here, and obviously that could have you know a bit of an effect on what's happening with the Kobe situation and Kobe Mania, etc. etc. Like you know, so but like all of that, it's worldwide at the moment, and it's just look at it's they're riding the crest of a wave. And we had mentioned from a long way out a few weeks ago that Mayo were in bonus surgery, and like talking about bonus surgery now. They have Sam with them and they're on their travels over the last few days, and on for a while, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like I think the other thing was Andy is such a positive person, he wasn't like one of maybe maybe the bad guy managers, let's call it. Do you know what I mean? Where people didn't like their attitude and interviews, people didn't like their tactics, like everything they did was perfect. As I said, the FRC changed the gately football forever, and I think Mayo just blew the ceiling, you know what I mean? And it's gone up to another.
SPEAKER_00Of course it is. Look at and look at they they played their own tactics, like they didn't do what any other teams were doing. Um, like I suppose they had to change halfway through the season. Like, if you've seen what happened with uh in the Rascommon game, you know, they were kind of blown out of the water in the second half in that game. But credit to the management team and Andy and like what they done was like they change it up, they had to because it wasn't going to work the way that they were going. And look at good luck to them because they're after reaping the rewards and got Sam McGuire on Sunday and raised her high, like you know.
SPEAKER_01And I think the like tactics that we've seen employed even since the rule change last year, like they're all out the window, it seems like. Is it just like like is it just work rate now? Wins it? Is it while shooting? Because if they had ended up losing that, you know what I mean? There was only a couple of scores in it at the end or well, one goal, obviously, but to win it for Kerry they would have got two. But would we then be going, Oh, all the widespread? But it just it was mad. Like, we're will the will the traditional big four, let's say, that would have been favorites this year, will the will they be like, we need a complete root and branch review. Yeah, well, you were the manager of a club to be like, Let's all I know, we just need to be fit and fast. Yeah, and will the underdogs like a Westmead, will they go, lads? Look what we do this year, and look at them outed, you know.
SPEAKER_00So it's it gives everybody hope. It gives everybody hope, and it gives everybody look at if you can get your tactics right against any of the teams, it just shows that on any given day that you can beat anybody really. Like and you know, prior to this season, that wasn't the case because there was teams setting up defensively, there was you know, four team behind the ball and stuff like that, and obviously it was not a nice game to be watching, and then the changes came in and you had to keep the three up, so then it turned into an 11v11 contest, which Mayo just blew out of the water there over the last few weeks with their high pressing, you know, their tenacious tackling up front. And you mentioned there, like, is there there's probably club managers now with club championships starting over the next few weeks going to be saying, Look at we need you doing this, and the latest. I've been hiding all my life, and now I like it. And especially because with the tree up, yeah, um, certain uh corner forwards or full forwards have been saying, Right, sure. I don't have to track back now. They'll be delighted, wait for the ball to come up, but now you're after seeing what Mayo done, and you're gonna be saying, right, okay, your club manager's gonna be saying we need you working harder and turning them over. So, yeah, okay, it's uh it's it it it was it was just brilliant to see that you know off the cuff stuff, like you mentioned their shooting, like it was uh yes, if they had drew the game or had lost the game, you would have been saying, Look at some of their shots were wild and they didn't go over the bar. But I think it's kind of like Andy has given them the belief to try these things. And if you don't try these things, how are you going to know if it works or not? And look at the age old saying if you throw enough something at the wall, it might stick eventually.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah. No, uh, but as I said, it was it there was amazing bravado, but it like and I I heard this on many uh different reviews since was like they were told, take any two-pointer you can, and we'll know we'll at least fight back in the next uh in the next play. So it's a great way to do it, too. Gun, if you think it's on, and I think you can never get confident unless you try things.
SPEAKER_00Of course not. And and look at like you're you're talking in over the last few weeks, especially in Croker, the shooting goals have been in the canal end, and that's where like the majority of two-pointers have been kicked over the last few weeks, and then all of a sudden Mayo find themselves one five to a point down on Sunday.
SPEAKER_01Like there was no one in that stadium going, oh no, they'll come back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and maybe maybe not, but like they turned around then, they kicked two two-pointers in a row and into the hill, right? Into the breeze. Like, there wasn't a huge breeze on Sunday, but there was still a breeze going going down into the canal end, and like they just like they ruzzed the whole stadium, they ruzzed the whole players, the management, everything just gets a huge lift from it. And interesting, like Mayo won the toss and they chose to go that way, so it was a tactical decision, obviously. I suppose from the top down, and the players themselves probably had their own conversation about it. What should we go with? Because it happens no matter what level you're playing at, it's if we win the toss, which way will we go? Will we go with the elements or will we go against them? And look at they went against them and it got proved right at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, as someone said, if you like bringing on Tommy Conroy as they've normally been doing in the second half, and now shoot into the score and end. But Tommy came on 25 minutes, yeah. You know, maybe someday we'll get Andy on the show and go, Was there something wrong with Natawi that came up on that? Yeah, if I remember correctly, uh or was he like, no, we knew we had to change our normal plan earlier. You know, it'd be an interesting one to find out what of course it will, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But you're looking, you have to think on your feet. Yeah. When you're in the cauldron of Crow Park in all Ireland final day, like you've got to decide, right? I need to do something here. And look at he did, and it was after so they'd kick the two-twos, Tommy comes on, they turn over the next kick out to get a free from it, tap over free, and they're right back in the game. Yeah, and they didn't look back after that, to be honest.
SPEAKER_01The front, the front, the front line, the tenacity of their tackling, which I was also, and I was kind of down towards that end, I was really amused by the carrybacks, even though they realised this is going to happen all day. There was a lot of times they thought, ah no no, we'll carry it out through this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, and I will and one thing that I would mention is the different referee that was on the day with McNally refing it, and I think I think we touched on it before. Look at there was one or two of them collisions that they're getting major contact on initially that a lot of refs would give them as a free. Yeah. So, but you have to play the ref. You have to you you get to know refs, especially at inter-county level. You got to know what you're going to get away with. Yeah. So they had decided, right, if we put enough contact on here, regardless whether we're a little bit aggressive or not, it's not going to make any odds because they're not, he's not going to give them a soft free. He's not going to give them a get out of jail free card. So you're talking there that the Kerry boys kept trying to do it. There was one stage there, I think, that Dylan Casey got earmarked that they left him free. Shane Murphy had no choice but to give him the kick out, and that's when Mayo just pounced on it. Yeah. And you know, like O'Dono hit him like a little pocket rock that he is, and then you had Kobe doubling up on that, and then you know, he doesn't give the ball back and it's brought in for a tap over free. Like, and it's just look at it's it's it's game-changing moments like that, like you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but the momentum changers, and like I was texting you at half time, and I said, you know, who's gonna win? You you said definitely Mayo. Yeah, and this time, you know, your podcasting prediction. Yeah, but like, when do you think the moment was? You go, They've definitely won it now.
SPEAKER_00And I just I I I thought, well, like there was a couple of points, obviously the two two pointers, Kearney's in the first half. I done who's straight afterwards, like they were unbelievable. But like, give young Dara Byrne, who I've given given an applauded since I started here, like, and that free from under the cuzick, like his first kick of the game at goals, really, like, and a huge pressure situation. You know, he had been turned over once or twice, he'd be put out over the sideline on another occasion, and to clip it over and curl it over effortlessly, like that, like that was just like okay, that brought him right into the game. And then when you say that, yeah, I did think at half time that Mayo had it got the real, real turning point, obviously, was Darr Byrne's goal. Oh, and what a clinker.
SPEAKER_01Inch difference.
SPEAKER_00But like to have like there's been top forwards in them positions, and for a kid to take his time, take a split second, hit it with the inside of his foot, not just blast it at the goals and curl it away from Shane Murphy, who made himself as big as possible and put it into the far top corner. Like, once that went in, I was like, There's no looking back here for me all like Jason Foley nearly stopped it.
SPEAKER_01Like there's so many little moments, but I suppose that happens across sports. But I just think, as you said, like from where they were like what seven points down or something, everyone would be like, Oh, here we go. Here we go again. Yeah, not only did they come back to a point at half time, yeah, they they just kept pressing on and pressing on, and they were relentless, like it.
SPEAKER_00They really were like, and like you you you touch on obviously Dyer Byrne, but his little one that he got away with just after halftime with the two hops. Two hops, yeah. You know, on another occasion that's called back and you don't know what happens from there, like you know, you know, carry go up the field and they see it see a ref mistake like that.
SPEAKER_01At least it's in an attack at moment. Like if someone does five steps or six steps in an attack, you can understand it to a point, but like when it's dirty tackling or bad fouling, then you get annoyed. But like for the good of the game, you go, Oh, look, two two two hops, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's wrong, but look, you got away with it like that. And but what I'm saying is like that can be a momentum swinger also. Like, that was just after half time. And like, I don't know if many people watched it that you could see it in the stadium, whether it was picked up on the TV cameras afterwards. But when Mayo came out onto the field, Darabyrne took off from the halfway line and he went at full tilt down and hung off the crossbar down below. And if that wasn't a man on a mission, I don't know what was like you know it was crazy.
SPEAKER_01Who would you say like we've talked about the forwards in fairness, their work rate, the three full forwards, their scoring ability, but but who would you say was the unsung hero that maybe not everyone's talking about?
SPEAKER_00Well, I suppose look at obviously, you know, you have the three up front, and we've mentioned them loads and loads here on this, and everybody has mentioned them all over the country because how could you not? But there was two for me there was David McBreen and there was Jack Kearney, and I suppose Jack Kearney has been you know he's been playing for me over the last few years, but like he always one of these players that is okay on his day, he's good on another day.
SPEAKER_01Potential is there, potential is there, and it just doesn't know what's going to do.
SPEAKER_00But like he nailed two two-pointers, and the gem with the outside the right in the second half, like was just like, give me the ball. Because he demanded that ball, like you know, and swung it over the bar. And then also McBreen, like if you go back to Darr Burns' goal, like McBreen intercepted the pass forward that was a goal chance for Kerry that Gavin White went to slip forward, intercepted, but in an awful lot of situations like that, the defender that intercepts it rests on his laurels and he says, Right, I'm after doing my job, let the ball go up the field. He took off and he chased and harried and got up the field, and next thing gets in front of O'Donahu who slips on the ball, and he has you know just the little clever mindset there to fit. So to flick it across because another player in that situation, high pressure situation, catches the ball and might fist it over the bar himself, flicks it into Darburn, who finishes the goal, and then in the first half with McBride again, like he scored his first point in championship football. He had scored a couple of goals or definitely one goal. I remember one of them against all, yeah. Yeah, but it's his first point, uh fist a point when Mo really needed it, like, and to take that upon himself, like you know, but and then you go back to where he was for the very last play of the game, out underneath the Cusick stand, after Kerry gets dispossessed, and he hands the ball down to Adonohu and Kobe who do the rest. So, like I would say, like unsung heroes that don't get probably the applaudus that they deserve as much as the other boys, but it was definitely them two lads.
SPEAKER_01There was a few people up in the concourse after this, and a few people had said Jack Carney from Man of the Match. Like Ryan was sensational. Yeah, but it's a bit like David Clifford, you nearly get used to Ryan doing that, but like Jack to lift himself to maybe you know hadn't always been up at that level all year. Definitely like look, I mean, none of the players I'd say care less who gets naughty one or the other.
SPEAKER_00Definitely, but I suppose like he he probably put himself into the limelight and he put himself majorly into the conversation that he's probably nailed on for an all-star now after his performance in Dallas final. Yeah, you know, and good luck to him after it, like you know.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, absolutely. And like they got four or two pointers compared to Kerry's one. Yeah. And in the modern game, that's if you're like we could call a million different ways, but that's probably the marker of going, Oh, that's what probably Clinkers.
SPEAKER_00Probably is. And if you if you look back on Kerry's one, it was an outrageous effort from his wrong side by obviously Clifford, you know, who when a defender has him shown up and shows him onto his right and he's facing into the hill and he swings it over, like an unbelievable score. And like you're touching on that like there was four to one. Did Kerry have many other two-point attempts? Like I think Shawnee O'Shea later on had one that dropped short.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they started getting panicky near the end when they probably didn't have to go for them that's the first one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they did, and but like they were probably thinking, right, they probably didn't have to go for it. Did the call come soon enough to keep clipping them over? Because Paudi definitely seemed to say, right, just keep clipping at the scoreboard here and we'll see how it goes. Uh but again, like like that was down to Mayo's defensive tactics. Like they were like, if we push up on these guys and we don't give them an effort at goal for a two-pointer, what are they going to do?
SPEAKER_01I think it's one of the hardest kicks to get off. Uh so if there's no one near you, you have a half a chance. But is there someone even creeping up on you? Yeah, that millisecond. Of course it is, of course it is. So I think that across the field, Mayo, and they didn't seem to tire. Like maybe dear with O'Connor, but like, God bless him, he had a great battle of a game too, got on so much ball, and he is one of the older lads.
SPEAKER_00But if you understand, but like there was an awful lot of people saying that Kerry looked out on their legs towards the end of the game and that Mayo were absolutely bouncing forward. So we touched on this that Kerry got really, really tested over the last couple of games, right, from the dubs and from Tyrone, and came through them games. Whereas Mayo didn't have to go to the pin of their collar against either Louds or Cork, right? So they had definitely loads left in the tank. Now, obviously, you have the momentum of all Ireland final day and no baggage, and you're on top in the game, which gives you a new lease of life, also. But I think them the last two games, and I know you have a couple of weeks breaker, etc. etc. But it just looked like that they were the fitter, sharper team towards the end of the game.
SPEAKER_01Like, well, I was in Morris Sheridan's company, the X-Mayo legend, the next morning, and so he said, you know, but again, it's this is what I said. As I've said, all the answers we kind of have them now, like, but like I mean now you go, Mayo were probably lightly raced, yeah, you know, so it didn't take that much out of them, like a horse, you know what I mean? So so maybe in hindsight, maybe that's what it was. And the one thing I was always saying, I know Loud and Corky could argue, oh, they didn't do this and they were bad there, but Mayo's defence seemed to get really tenacious in those games, yeah, really did. You know, and even the Mead game, they could have got caught, so they still really hadn't it solved then, but those two games and maybe Crow Park pitch, though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Crow Park pitch, but again, they probably did really tighten up and really go aggressively against their players. Because if you look at like one of their six defenders again, was Sam Callanan at the weekend, but he went up and picked up Gavin White, so it was like nullify the halfback's presence running from deep. So if you touch back to the Mead game a few weeks ago, they had halfbacks running from deep. I think both halfbacks had scored a goal against Mayo. So it was like they'd decided if we can stop the halfbacks running from deep here and the strike runners coming from deep, whether it be midfielders or anything like that. So it was like it was a real aggressive press, and that's obviously coming from you know, main coach there being Patty Talley, being an overall coach when people say he's a defensive coach, but then you obviously have the likes of Boiler and the likes of Keith Higgins there, who have been there on our iron final day and done it and you know came out on top in an awful lot of battles that they played in. And these are these young fellas looking up to them, like where are they going to learn from any better? Like, you know, it's an amazing achievement for them, like you know.
SPEAKER_01And another great stat. I mean, I I love that now. I mean, this year's no one's predicting Anthony right, but next year's gonna be worse. Like one of the stats there, like Kerry won 60% of their own kick outs, they won 56% of Mayos. Yeah, and they're still because I love the chaos of going, sure, we haven't a clue. Yeah, you know, and that's the divement of it. Like, how do you imagine to those stats and you still lose it?
SPEAKER_00Like, you know, like if you're thinking if you get a foothold in the middle third, that you're gonna go a long way to winning the game. And I think myself and Mark McHugh had mentioned that on our pod last week that Kerry were getting huge scores when they had won their. I think it was up on 75% if they win their kick out, though. That's where they were getting scores from. But again, it was and that goes down to the defensive. You know, it's like if we lose the break, let's make sure that we're not conceding soft goals or soft frees or giving up scores very easily. Let's make it really, really difficult for them. And like obviously, Clifford got in for the goal in the first half, a lovely little one-two between himself and Shawnee O'Shea. You know, you can't really stop that to be honest, you know.
SPEAKER_01No, you can't stop it for the whole game anyway.
SPEAKER_00No, you definitely can't, but like it's it's it's one of these things. How many times is that going to happen? And if you stop the ball going in as far as them, like there was in the second half, there was an awful lot of times down into the far stand of the Cusick that Clifford was showing, but there wasn't enough ball going into him because the pressure was out the field. Yeah, and it was like that's what Mayo had done to who had gone man for man, but aggressively man for man.
SPEAKER_01They scored one seven from turnovers. I was reading.
SPEAKER_00Mayo did.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like uh nuts, like crazy stats. And so like we could be going on here, not no one can figure out what was the one stat, but like they just seemed to clean up sorry, they cleaned up everything in the weirdest way, you know. They lost their kickoff battle, but yet the turnovers they just were I think it was just fitness and pressure, but there was obviously do you know when I thought they had it won? And this might sound a bit daft. The parade at the beginning, and I was like, Oh, this is going to be chaos here now, the roaring and the shouting. And I thought it was very tame compared to I've been there loads of times in Ireland finally. And I thought it was good, and I was like, Oh, maybe they're maybe they're just kind of a bit more calm this year. There's not the hype, and maybe it doesn't feed into the team. Obviously, there's no scientific evidence to back, but I just felt this is very strange. Yeah, of course, yeah. I thought they'd go mental.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, there's look at there's there's there's a calmness overall, yeah. There's small margins to everything, isn't there? Really, like, and like you know, we had said like you know, what is and I'm sure Andy and Du Bois spoke about it, right? What's going to happen if we go five or six down here? You know, do we press the panic button? Do we change our tactics? You know, which they didn't because, like, and you know yourself, like in the stadium, and I'm sure anybody watching on TV was going to be thinking, okay, this is it. It's one five to a point here. It's another sad day for Mayo football, and they're going to come out the wrong side of it again, and the next thing, bang, turn it round in the next 20 minutes, and they go in with a fighting chance at half time, and they come out in the second half and just blitz them, like really, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, and I mean as I said, we we knew some of the lads in college, and it was lovely to see them all there from Paul Durkin to Boyler to Keith Ends to Andy, and even um Desi Desi Campbell, the logistics manager there's a lot of old heads here from Sago.
SPEAKER_00And look at like and obviously look at it they they won and huge huge credit to them. And the one thing that I will say is like like I love listening to the All Ireland winning speeches or speeches in general for fellas that are raising trophies for clubs or counties, but like you gotta give a bit of credit to Jack Coin. Young lad like to like piece that together to go up there and to have that prepared. Yeah. Do you know what to you know that's a mindset also, like you know, thinking that okay, we are gonna win this, or we're there's a good chance we could win this and have that speech prepared and to go up there and speak like the way he does, yeah. Not easy massive credit, like you know.
SPEAKER_01So, like before we finish for today, uh I see already well now they there's no more Mayo for Sam, but is it Mayo for three in a row? Mayo just take it easy now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Let them enjoy their few weeks.
SPEAKER_01I carry your the favourites already for next year, you know. Okay. I was like, like, I mean uh someone said does this take the cap off now? Could Mayo well I mean if they play like that now? Obviously Kobe's gone. Yeah, and like you know, he had his misses as well on the day, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Uh he did look at he did, and again, but look at look at we says and no more so the innocence of youth, the enthusiasm of youth, okay? Because the goal chance that he that he got blocked down just after half time, rebound came to him, Shea Murphy smothered it, goes out for a 45, he goes to the back of the goals himself and picks up the ball, jogs out to the 45, and then kicks it 60 yards over the bear, yeah, you know, and then that set him alight, really. Because you know, up until that, yes, like he he went for an outside the right in the first half that you know it it was probably the wrong shot to take. But what's the right or wrong shot now? Because I'm sure Andy is saying to him, Do that, go for it.
SPEAKER_01And I heard him saying it like on an interview to Andy himself. He just told him, No, no, go for it. And some other players saying, Yeah, Andy told us if it's on, take it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then you go back to the last play of the game with Tommy Conroy coming through. Oh, it was like a Tyrone moment, you know, like I know, and that's what they're thinking, but he obviously could see the clock, right? And he's thinking there's 30 seconds left here, let's put three in it as opposed to a two-pointer. But it like, give it back to Kobe. Let him put it in it.
SPEAKER_01Kobe had at some point since now, but Kobe said, I need to talk to you for 30 seconds and then we'll go back to seven.
SPEAKER_00Like, let him put the ball in the back of the net. If he put the if if if that was the case, he'd give it back to Kobe, put the ball in the back of the net. There was and the field was erupted. Yeah, it was gone.
SPEAKER_01Every baby in nine months' time become.
SPEAKER_00It was gone. But look at look at he is going to Australia this week. I think his his family are moving over with him. He's going to be a huge loss to Gaelic football. We've absolutely enjoyed watching him this summer. Like he's you know, he set the world alight himself and that other young fellow. But when he's going across there, let him make his mark in the AFL. And if it works out for him, good and well, and if not, I'm sure he'll be welcome back to Mayo with open arms.
SPEAKER_01Like you know, I'd say at any moment, at any moment. And there was even talk that Oshim Mullen, he had trained with him apparently during the winter or something. I think he went on a trailer camp. Some rumored that maybe he was going to come back in in the last weeks. I mean again, you hear all this stuff. Of course you do. So so, like, um look, we might do, you know, in a few weeks' time before the All-Stars come up, we'll have a bring in some guests and a bit of crack about the All-Stars. But who who do you think will get player of the year now?
SPEAKER_00Look, I said we we we kind of mentioned it last week. Whoever wins on Sunday, their talisman is going to get player of the year. So I'm going to give it to the the pocket rocket from Belmuller. I don't know who I think he's going to get it after. Look, a player of the match.
SPEAKER_01In fairness, I don't even think now it's an it's an emotion linked thing. He led the charge in so many goods.
SPEAKER_00And he brought the fight to them from the start. Like he and I referenced it before after a game that he had called the team his team. Okay. Right? And he's not the captain. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But he is an odd field leader. He's a spiritual leader. Yeah, but like, and like not everybody needs to be the captain of a team to call them, you know, to like obviously there are his players there that's looking up to him, but he there's not too often that he doesn't give an eight out of ten performance.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he said in some interview he was a bag of nerves. He was a bag of nerves, and then to do that, yeah, got a hit to see him feels calm.
SPEAKER_00I know, I know, I know. So yeah, I think I think he's got to be a good one.
SPEAKER_01I would have to say in agreement, J and I don't need to be any sentiment attached to that. No, totally justified. Whoa. We could be splitting this one now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, look at I I think I would say it's going to go to Kobe.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I I I would give it to Darrow Byrne uh like one three. Yeah. First time all are like or what's like Kobe got what? Kobe got three, so like they all won the game of one sense, but they did, of course. I just think Darrow Byrne, the confidence, and I just thought over the season he was just a dog. He was, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And um look at he came in, he didn't play against the Rossies, he came in after that, he got four points against Monaghan, you know, and he just takes things in his ease, and he's not shirking responsibility. And look at their you go to that free in the first half, pressure situation. What pressure for a young fella, like you know. So, yeah, look at it's probably a toss between the two of them, but I would say just going by the the the press and the media, I would say that it would lean towards Kobe.
SPEAKER_01Cool, cool. Well, Darren, uh well, this time last year, when when Emlyn was doing with us, we kind of finished it up at that point of the season. But for anyone watching, we are most definitely hoping to continue this on. We'll see what way that'll flow over the next few weeks. We're definitely going to do a little bit on our Sligo Club Championship here for a bit of fun as well. So we might even have two episodes a week sometimes. But for anyone that's been watching, uh, thanks very much. If you're still watching, like, share, subscribe, tell people about us. This is a hobby, we don't get paid for it, it's a bit of fun. Of course, down the road, who knows what we might get lucky with supporters or sponsors or whatnot. But uh, darn, you've been a breath of fresh air. The amount of praise you've got from people all over the place, even in Cro Parkinson, the people that had seen it. Uh so look at it. I thoroughly enjoyed this. And as I said, we'll roll on out of the next season and see what happens.
SPEAKER_00Thank you, Brendan.
SPEAKER_01Don't bother. Right, folks, again, if you haven't liked or subscribed, please do so now. And we'll be back sooner than you probably think. That's all for now. We'll talk to you soon.
