SPEAKER_00

Thank you, Winslow. It's so good to be here.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, and you know, I was thinking about how we met. We met through a special group, a special family who we both work with. And every time you come to pick up the children, you have the biggest smile, the warmest heart. You're like this walking cloud of love. And I thought that it would be so fun for you to share some fairy stories that you have or whatever. We'll kind of see where the conversation goes. But I loved the line that you had one day when you came in to pick up one of the children, and you said, every day's a fairy day. That's amazing. And can you tell us for the children listening, Lanny? Because you have children of your own. You work with children, you're a beloved nanny. You've done you have done many different things. And to start, do you want to tell the children just a little bit about you? And then maybe we can talk about some of your fun fairy moments or whatever flows.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, yes. So I am a mother, and I also am a grandmother, and most of my grandkids call me G Ma or Mama. And because they don't think I'm a grandma, but that's just because I play with them. Yes. And so their other grandmas don't really, you know, get down on the floor and go out in the dirt and put things down for the fairies like I do. So I'm okay with that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I love that, Lanny, because you have you have that joy, you have that sense of play.

The Kitchen Fairy Sighting

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. I am forever learning and I'm forever growing in my curiosity because I know that magic is real. And that's why I love fairies because they are definitely part of the magic of life. And it makes me just feel very young when I play in fairyland. And so that's why I think that one day me and my children actually saw a fairy. Yes, and it was a very exclusive type of a situation where none of us that were there didn't see it. So we have that wonderful experience together to be like, did you just see that? Yes, I saw that. Did you just see that? That was real, you know. So I wasn't alone. And my witnesses were my two children, my oldest and my youngest, to be specific. And they were adults. In fact, my daughter was already a brand new mom. So that was really cool.

SPEAKER_02

That is so amazing. And can you tell us a little bit? Were you inside or outside?

SPEAKER_00

Or of course, I would love to share that with you. So we had just put on a little movie for my new little granddaughter. She's just a little toddler. And we were like, what should we put on for her? Because she can't talk yet, you know? So my daughter's like, let's put on Tinkerbell. So we put on Tinkerbell and we were just in the kitchen there, and we were getting ready to make some food. And just at that time, my son he said, I do believe in fairies. I do believe in fairies. I do believe in fairies. And I am not joking when I say this ball of light zipped into the kitchen from the window, went twirling in circles, zipped back and forth and back out the window. Oh my goodness. And we were all like mouths hanging open. Totally shocked. Not breathing for a second, because it was so cool. And my daughter looked at me and said, Did you see that? And I looked at my friend and said, Did you see that? We were all like, I do believe in fairies. I do believe in fairies. I do believe in fairies.

SPEAKER_02

And so Oh my gosh, Lenny. And it's so cool that it's like you were so shocked and surprised, but then you all had each other there to acknowledge it. And that you all had that moment together, and it was such a quick reflection of I believe in fairies, I believe in fairies. And then zoop, there's there's the fairy, there's Tinkerbell or who whichever fairy.

SPEAKER_00

She was like, Yes, I'm here. Do not forget about me. And this was 14 years ago.

SPEAKER_02

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

So it had definitely made uh one of those core memories for me. And I share the story with my my little G kids and even with the children that I, you know, encounter and care for throughout my life because I want all the little children to keep that open heart and that open mind so that they never lose the magic. Because it's always here. We just get busy with life and we forget to see it and to feel it. And so that's what I think keeps the whole fairy universe alive is just not only seeing that and feeling that magic as a child, but keeping that playful heart as we grow older. And so we can share it with everyone.

SPEAKER_02

Lanny, that's so beautiful. It's such a nugget of love and wisdom. And for you, how have you been able to keep your open, magical, curious heart alive?

SPEAKER_00

Sure, yeah. So one thing that I didn't know I was gonna love so much is I began painting. And I never know what I'm gonna paint or plan what I'm gonna paint, but I just start, you know, dipping my brush and smearing the paint around and creating colors because I make a rule for myself that I have to make my own colors and create them from the palette of black and white and blue and green and yellow and red. And so I make everything from those base colors. And I have painted many fairy worlds. And the reason why I know they're fairy worlds is because after I'm done, that's what I see. And that's even what people I show it to them and don't tell them what it is. They see, they see it's a fairy forest or a fairy pond or a fairy mountain or you know, a fairy waterfall. And it's just I feel like the fairy's way of showing me where they live.

SPEAKER_02

That is so, that is so cool. Thank you. And it's so cool too how like for the children listening, how you you just start to paint. So you just start to move the colors, make your own colors. Yes. And are you just kind of letting you're just letting your arm and like body creativity create the painting?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. There's no right way or wrong way or anything of the sort. It's just to see what happens and see what reveals itself. That's how I do it. That is so fun, it's so fun, and I give my paintings to people that want them. Um, and all of my grandkids not only have one of my paintings, but they've painted some for me, and so that's always really cool when they say, like, Grandma, this is a painting of a fairy with a wish umbrella. You know, the little dandelions that turn into a wish, yeah, and we blow them, you know. So they say that they ride on them, and that's one of my granddaughter's stories is that that's how the fairies ride around in the wind. If they maybe are tired and need to rest from flying. And I think that's really sweet and really cute. I love that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it's well, and what's so special too with you, Lanny, is that you model this, like you model a kindness, a play, an openness, a curiosity. And then everyone around you is positively impacted. Your children, your grandchildren, all the children you work with, me, like anyone you just encounter, it's you're showing, you're showing everyone how to be in the sense of play and like your whole life.

Gifts For Fairies In Nature

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it's so important. I mean, there's a lot of things that we have to take seriously and we have to focus on and do in our lives, but it's so much more fun when you have taken time to play and to, you know, get in the dirt and you know, leave the fairies something shiny or they love a little treat. Like um one of the things that I've grown to learn from my granddaughter's experience is she said that fairies like when she leaves butter out for them. And I thought, what? Butter. So she will sometimes just leave a slice of butter on a plate, and she says it's for the fairies because it's a treat for them because they don't know how to make their own butter, she told me. So I was like, you know what? That's really cute, kind of like leaving Santa some cookies, you know? And so it's just important to remember the things that we can do to just keep um our fairy friends curious and happy and coming back to see us because there is a really cool place that I took my uh little G kids and it's up by Boise, if anyone knows where that's at. And um you go and you park there, and there is a fairy park there. And you can walk through all these trails, you can walk up a great big mountain if you choose to, all the way to the top, or you can just stay down in where all of the trees and the plants and everything are. And when we were there, a whole entire herd of deer came through and they just stood there. There was about 30 of them, which is a lot. Yeah, and rare, actually. And they didn't run and they didn't move, and we walked right through the middle of them to get to our car when it was time to go. And it was really cool. So I feel like the fairies were giving us that special experience to let us know that they are very much a part of nature and animals' happiness, and that their love helps everything grow. So that's why I love fairies, is because I love beautiful flowers and trees and you know, that little cute animals and the big cute animals that just we don't get to see every day because we are usually in towns with, you know, all of the things that the towns need. So it's fun to kind of leave the town a little bit and go to nature and really be in that place where it's quiet and calm and you can hear all the birds singing. And if there is water by, you can always hear the like trickling of the rivers or the waters or the streams. And I think that's where the the fairies hang out when when they do come to see us.

SPEAKER_02

Right, it's like that connection, feeling that connection to the fairies when you're in nature, yes, particularly.

SPEAKER_00

Particularly, yes, absolutely. And I think that it's important for us to you know take off our socks and our shoes and just stand with our little toes in the sand or the dirt or the grass, and just remember that we're probably walking right where a fairy has been. Right. That's really magical. It's really uh and it's energizing. You can feel like so much positive energy come thro through your body and through your heart, and it helps, it just helps you be a kind person because it's important for us to be kind to everyone, and it helps us to, as you said, um have people notice our love and our kindness without us even saying anything because it does just come off of us like fairy dust, right?

SPEAKER_02

That is like so beautiful and so wise. It's yeah, it's like you're you're not attached to other people being in the magic, it's like you're just holding it for you, and then that just ripples like fairy dust. Lanny, that's so uh that's so beautifully said.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it. And I do believe that all of us that are attracted to glitter and shiny things, you know, that's the little part of fairy life that we still have with us as being humans because it is just beautiful to see some sparkling glitter, or you know, if you look at a river in the sun, it glitters, right? Right. And so it's just um something that I've noticed common with other people that I know um or kids that I know that do live in fairy world or believe in it, to visit it at times. And um that I think that it's just to show us a reflection that we can carry magic with us every day, just a little in our pocket. And if someone's having a bad day and we just sprinkle some love on them and smile at them, we don't even have to say anything. It could totally change their day and lift their spirits, you know. And it's very important to do that um as we go through life and and meet new people and you know, go through all of the different things that we go through. But to to just stop everything and play is so very important.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and also what's so interesting that you've said that is seems really important is how you like your connection to the fairies and your believing in them and witnessing the magic within you and in nature and the fairy worlds, it gives you energy. That's it's like it helps you hear in your day-to-day life. And that's saying something, children who are listening, because Lanny drives at least two hours each way to work when I see her. And you are always so positive, and even after long, long days, you do have an energy to you, and so that's just such a cool, interesting piece that you spoke to.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, absolutely. It I feel like um love and loving yourself and knowing you're a good person is super important because that helps you share to other people that they are also amazing and they should love themselves because if we do that, if we love ourselves like the little fairies love themselves, because that's why they get to have so much energy that they can fly so quickly, you can blink and miss it. It's they're so fast, they have so much energy, and they will share it with us, and then we share it with others, and it's just a great big circle of positive, bright, loving energy, which I feel is so important for all of us.

Childhood Wonder And Fairy Mischief

SPEAKER_02

Oh, so amazing! And did you, when you were a child, were you surrounded by people who also believed in the fairies and nature magic, or not so much?

SPEAKER_00

Uh no, I was alone in my experiences as a child because I was around so many grown-ups that lived grown-up lives. Um, so I really loved stories. I had a I'm older, so I had a record player. And I would listen to um Tinkerbell was one of my favorites. Um there was also um like the uh stories you you've probably heard of, like Pete Pete and the Magic Dragon. Right. Um and I had these on a record, and then I had a book that it the record would read it to me. And I spent my time as a child learning about magic and loving the stories that way because I was just kind of by myself. I was a lot older when my brother came along, and so then I had someone to play with and and have fun times with, and we had a lot of creative and fun games that we played, and but until that happened, I had to just listen and in the quiet of my day and listen and say, I'm gonna go outside. And I would go outside and I would get leaves and sticks and I would build little houses, and I knew I was building them for the fairies, and so I when I would do that and then I would come out and they would be gone. I realized the fairies had to take my supplies somewhere that they needed them to build what they wanted because it didn't need to be in my yard. So I found that out. I would bring them sparkly rocks and buttons from my mom's sewing drawer.

SPEAKER_02

And they'd be gone.

SPEAKER_00

They'd be gone. And so I I was really happy to be able to listen to what the fairies needed, even though I couldn't hear them say it. And and then um as I grew up, I started really loving to build them things that they could float on in the ditch I lived by, and I would put little boats together and I would float them off to wherever they went for the fairies to find. And so, you know, I just always felt like I wanted to help them have a home and I wanted to help them with uh transportation so they could get, you know, wherever they needed to go if they were tired flying or whatever the case may be, that they might need a boat to put their supplies on. And um, yeah, my mom would always tell me, What are you doing? And I was just like, you wouldn't understand.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and so special that you you had a heart connection with them from the beginning. And you just you were in your own confidence and comfort of it, and it didn't it didn't, you weren't bothered that everyone else around you didn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I just thought when you grew up you didn't get to see them. That's what I thought when I was little. And I have met a few adults that like you, Winslow, still know about the magic of fairies and their world and their fun playfulness, and sometimes they're mischievous, which means sometimes they like to play little tricks. And so it's fun to sometimes be like, Hey, where did that go? And then it pops right back up. And I'm like, uh-huh. I know what's going on here. I have a fairy that wants to play games with me right now. Sometimes I'll even say, Fairies, could you please bring that back? I really do need it, and it will pop up in a couple of days.

SPEAKER_02

That is so fun.

SPEAKER_00

Every time I'm like, mm, that's that. You're having fun with me. Yes, it's been a joy. And I'm I will never lose lose my magic um or the love of the fairies because I I feel like it's so much fun. Why would I want to miss out on that?

SPEAKER_02

Right. Yeah, it's in so unfulfilling and really grounding too.

SPEAKER_01

Oh to have that belief.

SPEAKER_02

Like an it just an inner sense of peace and calm when when you let yourself believe and uh connect with the fairies in a way that supports you.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, absolutely. And when I was just kind of on my own as a kid, they were my friends and they were the ones that you know I could talk to or I could play with or I could even just go looking for. And I might not find them every time, but I I I can definitely have a good time looking. An adventure is always fun.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and you too, Lenny, I it's like you're showing the children how you just have that open curiosity. Like when you're just saying when you're a child, you'd you'd talk to them or you'd go looking for them. You were never attached to how they showed up. You just were just kind of curious, like, hmm, we'll he we'll go see. I'll go see.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, absolutely. And that is why I love that the fairy came and visited me in my house, in my kitchen when I was grown, because that was an absolute surprise. Absolute surprise. And I felt like it was a bit of a reward for uh all the times that I looked, and maybe I didn't actually find them, but I found like something that I knew was something they touched or that they brought or um that they had lived in. And even if they had moved on, it was still so magical.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and too, you had spent, when you think about it, you had spent all those decades witnessing the fairies, writing to them, supporting them, helping them in just like a happy, not attached way. And then and it's like then the fairy there, he or she was.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, absolutely. And that she even she, he, I'm not sure, but I think it was a she revealed herself to my children, and I felt like she was acknowledging that I had a little granddaughter then. She was brand new to me, you know, and it was like show her, tell her, we are real, right?

SPEAKER_02

Like, like keep this ripple going, keep ripple, ripple away.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, absolutely. And so my granddaughters are now teenagers, and we still build fairy houses and we still build fairy furniture. And they do, you know, they really love um just the magic, especially of springtime. It's always this time of year when it's like, oh, let's go put repair on the fairy house and let's see what else we might find that we can put in there for them. You know, build them a little hammock or a chair or a little table or something out of an acorn or some type of cute little wood that we find. And um we always just have a really great time spending time together in our adventure doing that.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and and it's so it's so special because you've created within your family and then k wider communities such a sense of connection with your grandchildren or with others and then also with the fairies.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, absolutely, yes. And sometimes I learn things I didn't know, and you know, someone else's experience is always gonna be different than mine, but it's still magical. And I love to hear other people's stories or encounters or even just how they feel about the fairies and the fairy world. Um, because I do think it's a special place that not every single person gets to see. Right.

SPEAKER_02

That's so true. It's like when you're in your kind heart, your pure heart, your curious heart, then it they may be revealed.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. Absolutely. Just always have to be really like you said, um, kind of ready and open to the what if. What if it does happen? What if I what if it's just down the way a little? If I keep going, you know, down this trail and I just keep my eyes open, maybe I'll find something that a fairy has left me.

Finding Fairy Trails And Caring

SPEAKER_02

Lanny, this is you're this is so beautiful. And the thing too that as we wrap up, I loved how you mentioned the Boise. So Lanny and I both live in Idaho and there's a trail in Boise, a fairy trail, but I thought that's so cool to share with the children that most states and pla most states have somewhere a fairy trail, a community ferry trail that someone has created. So if you Google around where you live or maybe within a couple hours, there's usually a ferry trail.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And you can just pack a little lunch and take your parents or your grandma or whoever is in, you know, looking to go and being interested in taking you, and you can make such a fun day of it.

SPEAKER_02

That yes, it's like such a that's such a fun fairy adventure. And I'm so glad you mentioned that.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And it's always really good that when you're on your fairy adventure, you take really good care of nature and you don't ever leave any of your trash or your lunch, garbage, or anything like that. You always want to keep everything very, very clean and leave it just the way you found it in that perspective.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then you're you're tending to the the the tiny fairy homes that may be there.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes, absolutely. We have to have good housekeeping and be really kind. Be really kind to the area because they're very small and they can't they can't pick up big garbage like we can. So if you see something there and need to pick it up so that the fairies have a nice place, then just do that and the fairies will be so appreciative.

SPEAKER_02

Well, Lanny, thank you so much for sharing your fairy dust with us or inspiring us with your fairy dust.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you're so welcome.

SPEAKER_02

For sharing your stories and just the way that you, as a grandmother and human, dance and play in the world. And so it's such an honor to have you.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you are fairly welcome.
