Every story counts

From Football Dreams to Eating Disorder Battles to Life Coach | James Roffey

Joe Davison

In this episode of Every Story Counts, I sit down with James Roffey, whose journey is both raw and inspiring. James was once a promising goalkeeper at Charlton Academy, on track to make it as a professional footballer. At just 17, his dream came to an end when he was released from the academy, an event that sent his life in a difficult direction.

Struggling to cope, James became addicted to running. Standing 6ft1, his weight dropped to just 5.5 stone as he battled with his body and mind, unable to eat and unable to stop. This struggle consumed ten years of his life, leaving him physically and mentally broken.

Through resilience and the healing power of the gym, James slowly rebuilt himself. He regained weight, restored his health, and rebuilt his mindset step by step. Today, he has turned his pain into purpose, working as a mindset and fitness coach, helping others overcome challenges and find strength through discipline, balance, and belief.

This is a conversation about dreams, setbacks, recovery, and transformation. James’s story is a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is always a way forward, and the journey can make us stronger than we ever imagined.
