Idi Amn - The Butcher of Uganda
In this episode of Roots & Reckonings, we explore the brutal reign of Idi Amin, Uganda’s infamous dictator. We explore is childhood and his reign of terror from 1971 to 1979. From his rise through the military ranks to his descent into paranoia and mass murder, we uncover how Amin’s regime unleashed terror, economic collapse, and ethnic persecution. We also examine the myths, the atrocities, and the legacy he left behind. His connection to and overall connection between himself, Uganda, and the west. how foreign influence payed a role in aiding and abetting his reign, leading up to and all that happened during those horrific 8 years. This is the story of a man who ruled with fear—and left a nation in ruin.
