E74: Adjusting Lives: How Two Generations of Chiropractors Transform Health in Wexford

Leila Carter, Dr. Eric Grieb, & Dr. Rowan Grieb Episode 74

What makes Dr. Eric and Dr. Rowan Grieb with Grieb Chiropractic good neighbors?

What happens when a family legacy of healing spans generations? The Good Neighbor Podcast brings you an intimate conversation with Doctors Eric and Rowan Grieb, the father-son team behind Grieb Chiropractic Clinic in Wexford, celebrating over 30 years of transforming lives through specialized spine care.

Dr. Eric shares how his uncle's chiropractic practice near Kennywood inspired his career path, leading him to establish his own clinic in 1995. The family tradition continues with Dr. Rowan, who grew up immersed in the practice before officially joining in 2022 after completing his education at the same chiropractic school his father attended. Their shared passion for helping others creates a unique dynamic that benefits their patients.

The Grieb's challenge common misconceptions about chiropractic care, emphasizing that their approach extends far beyond simple pain relief. They detail their three-phase treatment methodology: acute pain management, rehabilitation focusing on biomechanics and core strength, and wellness care that maintains optimal function. This comprehensive strategy explains why an astonishing 95% of their new patients come from personal referrals – a testament to their effectiveness and commitment to patient experience.

Beyond their professional achievements, we discover the people behind the white coats. Both doctors enjoy golfing together and water sports, while Dr. Rowan reveals his surprising background in vocal performance and how he now sings lullabies to his 14-month-old daughter. These personal glimpses showcase how the Griebs embody the wellness lifestyle they promote.

Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Lila Carter.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a chiropractic clinic? One might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbors, doctors Eric and Rowan Grebe, with Grebe Chiropractic Clinic. How are you both doing?

Speaker 3:

Great.

Speaker 2:

Doing great, Awesome. We're happy to have you here and we're excited to learn all about you and your business. So please, one of you, jump in and tell us about the company.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely Well. I'm Dr Eric and we began the practice. I began the practice back in 1995 here in Wexford. We've been blessed to have several different locations within Wexford but we've been in our existing building now since 2002. 2002, have practiced a multitude of different techniques and combined that with the best care that we possibly can for our patients in pain relief, rehabilitation and for wellness of our patients.

Speaker 2:

Excellent, and how did you both get into this business? We can share one at a time here.

Speaker 3:

Sure, well, actually my uncle was a chiropractor and he practiced over by Kennywood and I was able, as as I was growing up, to be able to go and see his practice and be a part of a lot of what he did with chiropractic, and he was an inspiration to me. And so back in 1989, I went to chiropractic school and graduated in 1993 with my degree as a doctor of chiropractic. I practiced for two years down in Georgia in a group practice and then moved up here in 1995 to open our own practice. But that same experience, I think, happened for Rowan because he grew up in chiropractic.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that was kind of what I was going to jump into. Is that very similar experience to my dad's in that I was around chiropractic since I was born and so I was really used to it? And then I got the opportunity. I worked here at the office as a high schooler all through my time in high school and doing a lot of the therapeutic stuff that I was able to do and um, and then went to undergrad in high point North Carolina at high point university and then moved to life university in uh, georgia.

Speaker 4:

after that, the same place that my dad went to and, yeah, I was educated and then joined the practice in 2022. And, yeah, it's been a great experience ever since.

Speaker 3:

It's been wonderful to practice together these past three plus years with Rowan here in the office, and to do it as a team.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I love that you guys get to share that legacy and build that together. That's very special, and congratulations on 30 years. That's amazing, yeah. So what are some common myths, or maybe misconceptions, in the chiropractic industry?

Speaker 4:

Um, I would say one of the big um myths and misconceptions, I think, is that people think that chiropractic care is only for pain relief, and that's not necessarily the case. Certainly, we see a lot of pain and we help a lot of people with their pain, but there are also different phases to chiropractic care. There's pain relief and then there's also a rehabilitative phase where we're working on proprioception, spinal biomechanics, people's strength and stability in their core, so that they can live a more pain-free life. And then we also have wellness care, which is a super crucial and important aspect of chiropractic care. Studies show that patients that receive benefit after acute chiropractic care only maintain that benefit if they follow it by subsequent periodic adjustments. And so that's where the wellness care comes in, that we get people to a place where they're doing well, or they're already doing well, and we keep them well and we maximize their function.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. I know I feel so much better after a regular adjustment. And so you have these people that are dealing with chronic pain and you also have the people that are maybe you know. I guess for your uncle it was near Kennywood and just got off of being jerked around on a roller coaster and needed a chiropractor, so that's really cool. So who are your target customers and how do you attract them to the business? When we're thinking about marketing as the heart of the business, yeah, Well, I would say anybody with a spine is a potential customer.

Speaker 3:

but the reality is what we really are focused on initially, with patients in care, is typically relieving the health issues that they're having, whether that's a disc issue in a low back or whiplash from an auto accident, headaches and migraines, neck pain, mid back pain, low back pain. The focus initially is on that pain relief and then we move forward with the rehabilitation part of things.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think it's really special that you get to help people live a more comfortable life. I know chronic pain can just get in the way of everything that you do, and so, in order to reach your client base and inform them more about the kinds of offerings that you have and also how chiropractic care can influence their life and their quality of life, have you ever thought about possibly starting your own podcast to talk to these folks?

Speaker 4:

life. Have you ever thought about possibly starting your own podcast to talk to these folks? You know what we talked about it, but it's not something that we felt that we've really been interested in reaching them in that way. We've had a lot of success with our social media presence, and so we have daily posts going out and then we make a lot of videos and stuff. So it's not something that we've necessarily been interested in, but we have seen success with what we've done on that and then with our website as well, and then word of mouth is huge for chiropractic care as well with our internal referrals and that patients get better and they bring their husband in, and then they bring their son in and then they tell their aunt and uncle about it and they come in and we really spread the word that way as well, because having a doctor is a very personal thing, and so whenever you have somebody that's had personal experience with a good personal experience with a doctor, it's it's a huge win for us from that perspective.

Speaker 3:

I would also say with the, I would also say with the fact that we've been here for over 30 years now, that with the care that we provided, that we received in excess of 95% of our new patients or referrals from other patients that have had positive outcomes and positive experiences with us as doctors, and also our staff in the way that we manage their care and their insurance, and the experience that they receive here at Green Chiropractic Clinic.

Speaker 2:

Very good, yeah. Whenever someone can positively influence your life, it's like you want to shout from the rooftops about well, you need to go see this person too. You know, imagine what they can do for you, so that's great. Outside of work, what do you guys do for fun?

Speaker 3:

We both play golf, and so that's a fun thing that we do as a family. Together we spend a lot of time boating, wakeboarding, wake surfing, water skiing and, most importantly, it's family.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, for sure, I have a. I have a 14 and a half month old daughter, so I spend a lot of time with her and my wife, and then we have a dog Birdie, so we like to go on like hikes and stuff like that. And then I also I have a music degree actually, and so I love playing music. That's something I really enjoy.

Speaker 2:

Oh, very cool. Is there one kind of instrument that you play?

Speaker 4:

My degree is in vocal performance, so I would say singing is the main thing, but I play a host of instruments.

Speaker 2:

Oh, very nice. I'm sure that your daughter appreciates the lullabies that you get to sing to her. For sure she does.

Speaker 3:

She absolutely does, it's fun.

Speaker 2:

Aw. So please tell our listeners one thing that they should remember about Free Chiropractic Clinic.

Speaker 4:

I would say that if there's any pain at all that you're possibly experiencing or any dysfunction at all that you're possibly experiencing, to give us a call, because what we can do can either help a little bit or a lot, and that benefit is something that I wish that everybody knew, that everybody can benefit from chiropractic care, even if it's not necessarily pain but just wanting to function better in general. Absolutely.

Speaker 2:

And how can our listeners learn more about Grief Chiropractic Clinic?

Speaker 3:

I think the easiest way would be to go to griefchiropracticcom. We have a website that has information regarding the techniques that we provide, as well as information regarding the office. You can schedule directly on the website if you'd like to become a new patient or an existing patient would like to schedule an appointment.
