Premier Restoration's Tim Rhoades: From Floods to Fresh Starts
Meet the Host: Tim Rhoades, Owner of Premier Restoration of the Carolinas
Ever wondered what happens when a police officer trades his badge for a water extractor? Meet Tim Rhoades, owner of Premier Restoration of the Carolinas, whose remarkable journey from law enforcement to disaster recovery specialist reveals what it truly means to serve a community in crisis.
Tim shares the story of how he and his wife started with a simple air duct cleaning side business while holding down full-time careers—him in law enforcement, her in teaching. Two years ago, they took a leap of faith and purchased Premier Restoration from retiring owners, transforming their lives and creating a business that now serves multiple counties across Western North Carolina, with expansion plans for East Tennessee already in motion.
What makes Premier Restoration different? Tim's philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: when disaster strikes, the owner shows up. "When homeowners are devastated, it means more to them when the owner of the company gets his hands dirty alongside the workers," Tim explains. This personal approach has generated powerful word-of-mouth marketing that larger companies simply can't match. Hurricane Helene recently put this small business to the ultimate test, leading to significant growth and clarity about the company's direction. Beyond restoration work, Tim finds his balance on a 100-acre cattle farm, where he experiences his most peaceful moments simply sitting among his herd—a perfect counterpoint to the chaos of disaster recovery work.
Ready to learn how disasters become opportunities for fresh starts? Listen to Tim's story and discover why having the right restoration partner matters when your world turns upside down. Have questions about home or business restoration? Call Premier Restoration at 888-847-2241 or visit Premierrestorationofthecarolinas.com—because when things go wrong, Tim and his team make it right.

Speaker 2:Well, hello everyone. I'm Skip Maughney, co-host and producer here in the studio with Mr Tim Rhodes, owner of Premier Restoration of the Carolinas. Tim, how's it going? It's going good. How are you, skip? I'm doing just fine and I've got to tell you I'm loving some of the Jacktown Ramblers. On your intro there, with Pain and Desire, I believe, is the name of that song correct? It is, it is. They do a great job. Absolutely Got to hand it to them. Love some bluegrass. So, tim, let's just get right into it. Over the years, you've grown a remarkable following with Premier Restorations and, however, some of our listeners may not be familiar with your full journey, so let's just take it from the top. Could you share a little background about your?
Speaker 2:company and what you do.
Speaker 3:Yeah we're a full restoration company here and we're out of Wilkes County, North Carolina. We started eight years ago with an air duct cleaning business Me and my wife did. When we got off of work. I was in law enforcement, she was a school teacher. We would start, we'd clean air ducts in the evenings and then I left law enforcement, went to air duct cleaning full time and I knew the guys that owned Premier Restoration. I've known them for years and they kept getting on me about buying their business. They were ready to retire, so two years ago we bought their business and it's been wide open ever since. Wow, so law enforcement huh.
Speaker 3:Yes, sir.
Speaker 2:Oh wow. So is that a free service of? While you're in somebody's house restoring water damage or whatever? You see a safety hazard from a police standpoint, do you give them free advice?
Speaker 3:No, I don't give free law enforcement advice. I'm not in that business, no more.
Speaker 2:I'm just kidding. Well, Tim, we know that marketing is key to just about any business's success. So how do you market premier registrations of the Carol restoration Pardon me of the Carolinas?
Speaker 3:Well, we my wife does Facebook and we do a lot of word of mouth. We get a lot, a lot of word of mouth business and that's pretty much it.
Speaker 2:That's probably the best type of advertising that you could you could possibly have as word of mouth. And that comes from good service and and what you do and how you do it. So congratulations on that, um, if uh, well, who is? Who is your your target audience? I guess, uh, which is obviously somebody that's having some sort of disaster.
Speaker 3:I would think yes, or any homeowner or business owner within the area that we we work and we work a pretty broad area. We cover Wilkes County, ash County, avery, we cover a lot up in here, up in Beach Mountain, alexander County, pataga County. We got a pretty big circle we go around.
Speaker 2:Well, now are you able to do work in East Tennessee just right across the line.
Speaker 3:We are actually in the process right now of getting all the paperwork done with Tennessee so we can work across the line in Tennessee.
Speaker 2:Very good. That's good news. Good news. East Tennessee folks have a lot of. Especially of late there's been quite a few disasters going on. So, speaking of that, tim, how did that affect your business with Hurricane Helene? I know that did tremendous damage to a lot of people's properties and homes. How did that affect your business?
Speaker 3:Well, you know, it took our small company and made it really fast. We had a lot of jobs going at one time and at that point, when we originally bought Premier, we had partners and the hurricane, you know, we realized that we didn't want to be together anymore. So we, the partners, we split ways and it's, you know, now I do it by myself and so, you know, it kind of kind of cleared water a little bit to see who really wanted to do restoration work and who didn't.
Speaker 2:Very good, very good. Well, you know, western North Carolina and East Tennessee have been resilient in rebuilding after the hurricane, and that's thanks to people like you that are there to help clean up. So thanks for that. Well, tim, you're obviously a very busy person, in your own words. Why are you doing this? Well, you know there's a lot of restoration companies out there, skip the smaller restoration companies.
Speaker 3:You know, when you go, lot of restoration companies out there Skip the smaller restoration companies. You know, when you go to a home that's had water damage and the homeowners are devastated, you know it kind of means a little more to them. When the owner of the company shows up to work, when I get my hands dirty, just like my workers do, you know it kind of shows them, hey, he's in it for the long haul, he's here to work. Bigger companies you don't see the people that own it, you just see the people that work there. You know that's one thing for me. I just like to have a more personal touch. You know, small town company just be a lot more personal with our customers.
Speaker 2:Well, I've got to tell you, it means everything to me. It's like my bank. If I got to call somebody in a different country to deal with my bank account here in the United States, I got a problem with that and I have a feeling, if I call the number on your website, that you're going to answer that phone. Yes, sir, I will. That means everything in the world to me. Everything in the world Good customer service. That means everything in the world to me. Everything in the world good customer service, very good. Well, tim, when you're not busy running your business and cleaning up other people's disasters and messes, what do you like to do for fun?
Speaker 3:Work. We have a we have a hundred acre cattle farm. We raise cattle for beef and we we have other businesses on the on our property. We have a glamping retreat as well, so we stay busy wow.
Speaker 2:So work, that means no fun. Okay, you know, I've always always told my dad, always said if you love your job, then, uh, you'll never work a day in your life. So it sounds like you, uh, you love a little bit of everything. Oh, we, we stay busy, that's for sure. What's your favorite thing to do for fun?
Speaker 3:Well, it may sound weird, but the most favorite thing for me is to go out with my cattle and just sit there. That's the most peaceful thing you can do. You can't do anything more relaxing than just go sit among your cattle.
Speaker 2:Wow. Well, I'll have to try that. I'm a fly fisherman, so for me, peace is standing beside a stream with a rod in my hand or not, you know and seeing some fish, but I love to hear running water and it puts me closer to God.
Speaker 3:I can relate we got plenty of running water and plenty of big trout too, very good.
Speaker 2:Well, maybe we can come hang out sometime. I'll be by the stream while you sit with the cattle. Perfect, perfect Sounds good. All right, man Sounds good. Well, tim, I love it. We will catch you in the next episode, where we'll try to dive into some frequently asked questions about restoration, because I'm sure there's a lot of them. But I hope you have a great rest of the day.
Speaker 3:Thank you, you too.
Speaker 2:All right, we'll see you then.
