Sometimes the hardest thing to do is trust God when life feels uncertain. In this episode of Chic in the Spirit, Sherita McShae gets real about the kind of peace that doesn’t come from having answers, control, or everything working out perfectly. This is the kind of peace God gives in the middle of confusion, pressure, heartbreak, and overthinking.
Through Philippians 4:7, Isaiah 26:3, and John 14:27, we’re unpacking what it truly means to have a peace that transcends understanding. If your mind has been racing, if you’ve been trying to figure everything out, or if life hasn’t been making sense lately… this episode is for you.
This conversation is raw, honest, comforting, and a reminder that God’s peace is not based on circumstances — it’s based on trust.

Welcome to Chick in the Spirit, where faith meets flair and style meets scripture. I'm your host, Shriana Mache. Get ready for real talk, spiritual growth, and a whole lot of grace. Let's get into it. Hey y'all, and welcome back to another episode of Chick in the Spirit. I'm your host, Shrieta Mache, and I am so grateful that you decided to press play today. I don't believe you're here by accident. I believe God has a way of allowing us to hear certain words at the exact time our spirit needs them. So today, we're talking about peace that doesn't make sense. And I want you to really sit with that before we even get deep into the episode. Because a lot of us think peace is supposed to look like everything going right, everything lining up, everything making sense, everything feeling calm, but that's not always how God's peace works. Sometimes God will give you peace in the middle of chaos, peace in the middle of uncertainty, peace in the middle of things not being resolved yet. Today we're going to look at Philippians chapter 4 because this scripture talks about a kind of peace that goes beyond what we can understand. And I believe somebody listening today has been trying to figure everything out when God is actually trying to settle your spirit. God, we thank you for this moment. We thank you for this space. We thank you for every person listening right now. Father, I pray that this episode would not just be information, but revelation. I pray that whoever is listening will not only hear words, but they would feel your presence. God, calm every anxious thought, quiet every racing mind, settle every restless spirit. Father, help us understand that your peace is not dependent on our circumstances. Let this word bring clarity, let this word bring comfort, and let this word remind us that even when life doesn't make sense, you are still in control. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Now I want to take us to Philippians chapter four verse seven. It says In the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Now let's slow that down. This is not normal peace. This is not situational peace. This is not the kind of peace that only shows up when everything is going right. This is a peace that transcends understanding, which means it doesn't make sense. And this is important because a lot of us are waiting for life to make sense before we allow ourselves to feel peace. We're waiting for answers. We're waiting for clarity. We're waiting for things to line up. We're waiting for closure. We're waiting for everything to calm down. But this scripture is showing us something different. God's peace does not wait for understanding. It goes beyond it. And let me say this if your peace only works when everything is going right, that's not God's peace yet, because God's peace shows up when things are still uncertain, when things are still unresolved, when things are still uncomfortable, when you don't have all the answers. Paul writes this in a season where everything around him is not peaceful. He's not writing this from a place of comfort. He's not writing this from a place where everything is perfect. He's writing this while dealing with pressure, while dealing with uncertainty, while dealing with real life situations. And yet he still talks about peace. And that tells us something. Peace is not about what's happening around you, it's about what's happening within you. And the scripture says this peace will guard your heart and your mind, which means peace becomes protection. It guards your thoughts, it guards your emotions, it keeps you from spiraling, it keeps you from overthinking, it keeps you from falling apart internally, even when things externally are not stable. And if we're being honest, a lot of us don't have a peace problem, we have a control problem. We want to understand everything. We want to figure everything out. We want to know how it's going to work. We want to know when it's going to happen. We want to know why it happened the way it did. And when we can't understand it, we lose our peace. But God is saying your peace is not found in understanding. Your peace is found in trusting me. And when you look at Isaiah chapter twenty six verse three, it says you will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. So peace is connected to trust, not answers, not outcomes, not control, trust. And even in John chapter fourteen, verse twenty seven, Jesus says, Peace with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives, which means this peace is different. It's not temporary, it's not conditional, it's not based on circumstances, it's spiritual. So now let's bring this home. Where in your life are you trying to make everything make sense? What situation are you overthinking? What are you trying to control? What is keeping your mind restless? Because sometimes the reason you feel overwhelmed is not because God isn't moving. It's because you're trying to understand something He never asked you to figure out. And when you release the need to understand everything, you make room for peace. Peace doesn't mean you don't feel anything. Peace doesn't mean you're not affected. Peace doesn't mean everything is perfect. Peace means you're not falling apart in it. Peace means you're steady in the middle of it. Peace means you trust God even when you don't understand what He's doing. I want you to sit with this. What am I trying to understand that God is asking me to trust? Where in my life am I allowing confusion to steal my peace? Do I really trust God or do I only feel at peace when I have control? Before we close, I want to speak to the person whose mind has been racing. You've been overthinking, you've been trying to piece everything together. You've been trying to make sense of something that just doesn't make sense right now. But God is not asking you to figure it out. He's asking you to trust Him in it. And when you trust Him, peace follows. Not because everything changed, but because something shifted inside of you. I thank you for your peace. I thank you for a peace that goes beyond what we can understand. Father, calm every anxious mind, settle every restless heart. Help us release the need to control everything. Help us release the need to understand everything and teach us how to trust you fully. Let your peace guard our hearts. Let your peace guard our minds and remind us that even when life doesn't make sense, you are still working. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Alright, family.
