Poised for Purpose with Tabitha J

S02 E04: From Overwhelmed to Ordered: The Art of Reset

Tabitha J Season 2 Episode 4

In this episode of Poised for Purpose, Tabitha J breaks down how to recognize when life feels “loud,” why we quietly compare ourselves more than we realize, and how to shift your thoughts so your world can settle again.

This episode is extra special because Tabitha opens up about the role transparency has played in her work — from this podcast, to her planners, to the systems she teaches — and how the same steps she used to rebuild her own discipline and mindset became the tools she now shares with others.

This conversation will help you pause, identify what’s really weighing you down, and reorganize your next steps based on who you’re becoming… not who you’re watching.

Because once your mind gets ordered, everything else follows.

SPEAKER_00:

Happy Monday, everybody. You are listening to Poise for Purpose, the space where calling meets clarity and faith meets function. I'm your host, Tabitha J, the voice of strategy and purpose, helping you build with grace, live with intention, and grow into the person you're meant to be. So today we're talking about something that every single one of us faces at some point, and that's moving from feeling overwhelmed to getting ordered again. So to be real, as always, you know, life just gets heavy. Your mind gets crowded, you look around, and suddenly everything just feels like a lot. You know, even the things that you usually handle without blinking. And most of us don't get overwhelmed because we're doing the wrong things, but we get overwhelmed because we stop pausing just long enough to reset. And so let's have an understanding from the beginning. A reset isn't starting over, it's simply just clearing out your mental clutter so you can see straight again. It's choosing your intention over urgency. So let me share where this hit me personally. So I had this season, I just kept feeling left behind, you know, behind in goals and progress, and behind compared to where I thought I should be by now. So on the outside, everything looked fine, but inside I was wrestling with these expectations that I put on myself. And if I'm honest, a little bit of subconscious comparison. And this is not the loud, I wish I had that comparison. No, no, no. It's the quiet kind. I should be further, I should have this together by now. Why does everybody else look so put together? That kind of comparison, that doesn't scream, it's that little whisper in your ear. But those whispers, as quiet and subtle as they may seem, they'll burn you out faster than real problems ever could. And here's something that I don't mind being honest about. A big part of my work, whether it's this podcast, the planners, the systems I build, the events, or even the way that I pour into women, it's always been rooted in transparency. I never wanted to present myself as the woman who woke up like this. That's not me. I've always wanted to show people the actual path I took to come out of who I used to be, the mindset that I had to rebuild, the discipline that I had to develop, and the patterns that simply I had to break. And even when I created my Lady Boss planner, every section came from real steps that I followed to pull myself up to a higher place, a place of discipline, responsibility, and eventually influence. Not influence for show now. I'm talking about influence that has the weight because it came from work. So I say all that to say that when I talk about resetting, I'm not speaking from some theory, I'm speaking from experience. Experience that formed me. So all of that being said, here's what helped me get back to center, and these steps may help you too. Step back long enough to breathe. Just know you're not failing because you need a minute. Sometimes the most productive thing you could do is pause. Then identify what's really heavy. Is it the task, the timeline, or is it the expectations that you put on yourself? Sometimes it's not even life, it's the pressure that we create in our own heads. Then reorganize your next move based upon who you're becoming and not who you're watching. Comparison will have you chasing somebody else's blueprint. I had to stop to let you think about that one. Yes, indeed. But a reset will bring you back to your path. When your thoughts line up, your energy lines up, and when your energy lines up, your life follows. So, where do you need a reset this week? Your schedule, your expectations, your mindset. What about your energy? Honestly, ask yourself, am I overwhelmed by what's real or by what I'm comparing myself to? And when you reset your thoughts, I promise you, you're gonna reset your power. If this episode was good to you, share with someone who needs it today. And don't forget to follow the show so you don't miss next week's episode talking about when your capacity changes. Oh, and for my ministry leaders, pastors, and those serving in faith spaces, our ministry leaders edition drops every Thursday with a deeper empowerment just for you. But until next time, keep walking it out, folks, and stay poised for purpose.
