In this powerful and deeply moving episode of She Shines, Coach KG sits down with Ravin Kirk—a woman whose journey reflects the undeniable power of grace, courage, and rising again.

Once shy about accepting God’s calling, Ravin spent years unsure of her voice, her purpose, and her place. But after a life-altering back surgery, three months of tears, and a season where her faith felt lost, God rebuilt her from the inside out.

Her transformation birthed Grace Covers ME, a faith-rooted clothing line created to uplift, affirm, and remind women that God’s grace isn’t just covering—it’s calling.

Ravin opens up about:
✨ The valley season that broke her open and led her back to God
✨ Motherhood and loving her 16-year-old son through difficult seasons
✨ Reclaiming her voice after years of uncertainty
✨ Stepping boldly into entrepreneurship with a God-given assignment
✨ The heart, message, and legacy behind Grace Covers ME

This episode is for any woman who has ever felt unseen, overwhelmed, or unsure of her purpose. Ravin’s story is proof that healing is possible, faith can be rebuilt, and calling becomes clear when you walk in obedience.

If you’re ready to rise, reclaim, and radiate—this conversation will speak directly to your soul.

Welcome to She Shines with Coach KG. I have to say that now because from what I understand, there's other she shines out there in the podcast world. So, but this is She Shines with Coach KG. That's me, who is not only the podcast host, but I'm a transformational coach helping people discover their strengths that makes up their essence of who they really are. Not the avatar that the world created them to be. I'm also a published author of a book called Queen Warrior Crown Bound on Amazon. And it's about my life when I was the caregiver for my husband who had non-Hodgkins lymphoma. And he passed away in July of 2021. Everything that we went through, it's a fast read. But because of the coach in me, I make sure I put at the end of each chapter something for you to work on as you, you know, prepare yourself if you are in a relationship for illness, and then they don't necessarily have to pass away, but just to help marriages or partnerships. So Queen Warrior, crown bound on Amazon. And today, my goodness, the theme for this episode is grace, healing, identity, and stepping boldly into God's calling. Raven Kirk is our guest today, right here on She Shines with Coach KG. She has many titles, but what I remember from my pre-interview with Raven was that her life reflects what I call BBA. No, that is not another degree. BBA is an acronym for bounce back ability. And you're going to hear about that today. Her life is also about growth, personified. And she is a witness of God's grace, that undeserved favor that is given just because, just because he loves us. So I want to extend a warm welcome to our guest, Raven Kirk. Technology user error. But there she is in all radiance. Raven Kirk. Yes. Raven, welcome to She Shines with Coach KG. So glad to have you. And so what I like for you to do is would you introduce yourself to our audience?

SPEAKER_02

Like you said, I'm Raven Kirk. Um, I am a mother of a 16-year-old boy. I'm a boy mom. All right. I work in the medical field. I have different hats. I do home health part-time. I also am slowly coming out with my clothes, my spiritual base clothing line called Grace Covers Me.

SPEAKER_04

I love the title. All right. So, yes, you do have many titles. And when you strip away your roles and responsibilities, Raven, who is Raven at the core?

SPEAKER_02

I would say a woman following Jesus.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yes, yes. Your journey has had many layers of faith, motherhood, healing, and purpose. Yes. So, Raven, share with us one early life experience that shaped the foundation of who you are today.

SPEAKER_02

I would definitely say I went through a process of having to have back surgery. That shaped me to learn how to choose me.

SPEAKER_04

Well, tell us more. How did that surgery help you?

SPEAKER_02

Well, it made me choose me because my whole life I've always focused on taking care of my son, my friends, family, things like that. And when it actually came time for me to actually take care of Raven, I had to take care of Raven. I was put in a situation that I I that was the only option that I could do is take care of Raven, find out what was going on with Raven, get answers for Raven versus getting answers for other people. So it was a journey of learning to not it's not not being selfish, but just taking care of yourself.

SPEAKER_04

Because if you don't take care of you, nobody does. That's true.

SPEAKER_02

Nobody will.

SPEAKER_04

So your back surgery, Raven, was more than a medical event. Would you say it was like a spiritual and emotional turning point?

SPEAKER_02

It was an emotional roller coaster for me. Because at the age of 38, I'm healthy, I'm doing great, and I wasn't looking forward to having to have back surgery. When it all came about, it was a surprise to me. I was actually on a journey of working out, um, probably more consistent in the gym than I had ever been. And it just kind of took me down.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. And you you didn't have any warning.

SPEAKER_02

I would say I did. Okay. As always, we kind of put it in the back of our head, like, oh, it's just a little pain. I'm gonna get some muscle relaxer, tiger bomb, rub it on there, just self-medicate myself.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_02

It definitely got to a point where it was past self-medicaid that I had to actually go and be seen. And when I found out, it was it was pretty much like you gotta see a neurologist and possible surgery. And it it put me in a place where I'd never been before. I've never had to go through a journey of seeing several doctors, steroids, injections, everything failing.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. Remember when when I did the pre-interview with you, you said you cried every morning for three months.

SPEAKER_02

I did. I was stripped from the person that I was. Um I like I said, I had several hats. I did so many things, so it actually set me down. Every morning I got up, I literally sat on my bed and cried because I didn't know what to do. I was like, okay, if I have a lot of things that went through my minds, I'm like, if I have to go through surgery, then that means I can't go to work. So who's gonna pay the bills? Like everything ran through my mind.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Any side jobs that I had to do, like I had a person that I take care of. I can't do that. I was I was stripped at work. I've been working at my job for 13 years, and to not be able to get out of my car and walk to my desk was the hardest thing to actually have people come and have to wheel me to my desk. Oh my, to have people have to ask me every day, like, are you okay? You gonna make it? You know, it was not crying in front of people.

SPEAKER_04

Boy, wow. So were these tears tears of re release or revealing?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I would say tears that was, I would say both. I would say both because it was um it I didn't get the revealing of God until after the whole process. Because as I was going through this whole process of actually um getting to the point of actually having back surgery, I tried different things. I went to a healing service, and I knew once I went to that healing service that I was gonna be healed, and when I went to that healing service, I got relief, but I didn't get healed. So in my mind, I had anger, I had tears for anger, I was upset, I lost my faith because when you go through things, you have a way of how you think things are gonna be resolved. Yeah, and I was like, I'm going to this healing service, I'm gonna get healed and I'm done, no surgery.

SPEAKER_04

It didn't happen that way.

SPEAKER_02

It didn't happen, but I would say, going through this whole process, it revealed a lot of things to me. It showed me people that was there for me, it showed me how much grace God had for me through that process, how he covered me through that process. And all of that didn't come until after I had the surgeries when I actually came to actually see that how blessed I was. When I had surgery, the doctor that did my surgery, he did it right at the hospital that I work at. So that was a blessing for me. That was a comfort zone for me. Yes. Yes. Not only did he provide me with so many helpful people, I I mean, every day up until surgery, I had a friend that she would say, Are you okay? I love you. And that got me through my day because I never stopped going to work. I wouldn't go to I wouldn't stop going to work. He gave me strength to get up every day and fight through that pain. And I dragged that leg, but I would get to work. But everybody there at my job supported me, was there for me, cared for me, and it took a lot of the shame. I was ashamed. I felt like I couldn't do my job.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. So you shared that during that time you lost faith. I did. You got angry with God. Very, but then you rebuild it.

SPEAKER_02

I did, I did.

SPEAKER_04

So what what did loss feel like?

SPEAKER_02

Um lonely, misunderstood, scared, afraid, um, more of just loss. Like, I mean, it's not your everyday. Like you get up, you go to work, you can walk here, you can walk there, you can do this. It was having to depend on other people. Yeah, you've never been that type of person to depend on other people to actually call somebody and say, Hey, can you do this? I can't get out of the bed, or having my son cook dinner, or having him bring things to me. It was it was probably the lowest part of my life.

SPEAKER_04

And so what helped you reconnect with God?

SPEAKER_02

Definitely praying. Probably it that actually increased my prayer, helped me increase my prayer. I prayed to him every day. Um, I had supportive friends, I had supportive family members, and most of it was prayer. And he actually, in the midst of my prayer, he set me down and I had to listen. I had to listen.

SPEAKER_04

We love to talk to God, don't we? Yes, but we should listen probably more than we talk.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, and it was the listening that got me through.

SPEAKER_04

Yes. So, at what moment did you sense yourself healing, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually?

SPEAKER_02

I would say I accepted what I was going through. I accepted that surgery was the option. I accepted that this was God's plan for me.

SPEAKER_04

And in accepting that, you cast down all other imaginations, didn't you?

SPEAKER_02

I cast out fear, negativity, yes, everything. And been embarrassed for something that I didn't, I mean, I probably could have caused it, maybe at the gym, working out a little bit, excited. Yeah, yeah. But in reality, it wasn't something that I just intentionally done, but I was embarrassed by it.

SPEAKER_04

And one of the things I say, even is be careful what you focus on. Because what you focus on clearly becomes your reality positively or negatively. So that's why you cast down those other things, fear, all those things that were clouding your faith that God had you, God was in control. Well, let's talk about another one of your titles, Motherhood. As she said, she is the mother of a 16-year-old boy. Yes. Now, you know, just in the comments, if you can relate to Raven in her situation with a 16-year-old boy, say, that's me. That's me. So what were the challenges?

SPEAKER_02

My challenges with my son was accepting that he's he's not a baby no more. He's not a baby no more. What I wanted to do with them, spending time with them, he's like, No, no.

SPEAKER_04

It was that releasing, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But I am sure, and I'm sure are those that are listening in the audience, you gave him a strong foundation, didn't you?

SPEAKER_02

I did.

unknown

I did.

SPEAKER_04

But the problem you were having was giving him the wings to fly.

SPEAKER_02

He wasn't ready to let go.

SPEAKER_04

Again, if you could say that's me in the in the comments.

SPEAKER_02

And it was fear. It was fear.

SPEAKER_04

What were you fearing for him?

SPEAKER_02

One, he's he's a he's a male, he's a black male.

SPEAKER_05

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

And when you look at him, he doesn't look like a 16-year-old. So my fear was, you know, just letting you out there in the world. And I wanted to shelter him because I feel like I'm mom, I can save you, I can protect you. You don't need to go out there. You don't need the world. You got me.

SPEAKER_04

You got me. You got me. You as long as you got mama, you don't need nobody else. Right. But in all actuality, Raven, how has this journey of raising a 16-year-old boy as a single mother deep your faith?

SPEAKER_02

Because I had to trust in God that He was gonna take care of him, protect him when he's not with me.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yeah. Because he is omnipresent, he is always where we are, and so that I know can be very hard on a mom.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

What what did it do for your patience?

SPEAKER_02

I'm still working on that.

SPEAKER_04

I love it. She is transparent, she says she's still working on the pay on the patience part.

SPEAKER_02

Because he's he's becoming himself, and I'm having to accept who he is and allow God to work on him on things that need to be worked on instead of me feeling like I'm gonna change it. I have to allow him to be who he is.

SPEAKER_04

And raising your son, how did it strengthen your self-belief in believing in yourself?

SPEAKER_02

Well, um, because I know when I was a kid, I was probably I was a handful.

SPEAKER_04

So to see my mom not raven a little bit of a handful. Just a little bit. Okay, just a little bit. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

But it definitely strengthened me to be able to give love out. It taught me how to give love and sometimes not even receive it back at times.

SPEAKER_04

It strengthened me unconditional love, right?

SPEAKER_02

Unconditional love, there you go.

SPEAKER_04

That's it. That's it.

SPEAKER_02

There you go.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And it it really gave it's really working on my patients, helping me be in my soft mom era.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yes, yes. Well, one, you went through a health trauma and look, you came through it. You're in the midst of raising your son, but you're not doing it alone. God's got you.

SPEAKER_02

He had me covered the whole time.

SPEAKER_04

Definitely, definitely. And I just I tip my hat, if I had on one, but to single moms because I was never a single mom. And I mean, now that my husband's passed away, but my children are grown. You know, they have their own lives. And I tip my hat to single moms that have children at home because that has to be one of the most challenging titles, roles that you could have. Because one, wouldn't you say, Raven, it was challenging to teach your son what should have been taught by a man.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

So does he have any male influence in his life to speak to those things?

SPEAKER_02

He does. I actually, through my journey of being a mom, you know, we we we go through our problems with our kids. Yes. I got him signed up for the big brothers, big sisters. Oh god. So he has he has a big brother that he can he can talk to about, you know, life male issues, months. Yeah, me. Yes, yes. So I de I definitely I went through a lot of things. We did counseling, we did a lot to get where we're at now.

SPEAKER_04

I'm glad to hear that he does have uh male influence in his life, someone he can talk to, like you said, about the issues that concerns a young man.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_04

And someone who has that experience to be able to guide him. So that is that's great. What do you want other mothers, especially those who are listening that they're parenting through those tough teen years? I don't care if you have a boy or a girl, right? What do you want them to hear from you today?

SPEAKER_03

Never give up. Never give up. It's a shortcut, never give up.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely. I love it. I love it. And as you move from fear and uncertainty and into obedience and confidence, what has loving you been like?

SPEAKER_02

Man, loving me has been, it's been great. I'm learning who I am, I'm learning what I like, um, I'm learning what peace is.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yes.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm just accepting me for who I am. I'm not trying to be someone else.

SPEAKER_04

They're already taken. So yeah, don't be anybody else because they're already taken. You be authentically you, Raven. Absolutely. Now, this is the part I'm I can't wait for our audience to hear about. And that is the title of our episode, Grace Covers Me. The clothing line that was born from a calling and courage. Let's talk about your brand, Raven. Grace Covers Me. When what was the moment, or when was the moment you knew God wasn't just tugging at your heart, He was assigning you to build something? What was that like?

SPEAKER_02

Well, when Grace Covers Me came about, it was given to me by a friend. Okay. So I I wanted a clothing line, but I didn't know what to call it. So one day she said, Have you ever paid attention to your license tag? I said, No. She said, GCM. I said, What does that mean? Grace covers me. I said, and it took me a While for a minute to actually accept it because it wasn't mine. I didn't come up with it. It wasn't my ideal. But as I started going through the process and just sitting down and thinking and talking to God about it, He took me down through my life journey to show me what grace, where Grace covers me comes from, how it plays in my life.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. Wow. That that's good. So it GCM is just the letters on your license plate.

SPEAKER_02

I've been driving around with it for years.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. Wow. So what how did your personal transformation, the tears, the faith rebuild, motherhood, healing shape the vision of grace covers me?

SPEAKER_02

And just your journey, it showed me how much grace he had for me. He showed me where he blessed me at in my life, the things that he provided for me through my journey that I didn't see why I was going through the journey.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_02

And it just reminded me that this whole time that I thought that I was alone and by myself, he was covering me this whole time. And I started seeing the things that he did in my life that showed how much grace he had for me and how much he was covering me through things that I never even thought about. Like I travel and I could tell you some days, I don't know how I got home. I got home.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. So yeah, that's grace.

SPEAKER_02

He covered me. He got me home. And I would think and he actually gave me those things back in my mind so I can know that's why Grace Covers You covers me is for you.

SPEAKER_04

Raven, what was the first message or design you created?

SPEAKER_02

It was a t-shirt.

SPEAKER_04

And what did it say?

SPEAKER_02

It uh action had it was just GCM. And it just said Grace Covers Me. So it was a t-shirt that I started with, and then I'm and you're expanding. I'm expanding. I I have goals for Grace Covers Me.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yes, yes. Well, we definitely gonna let you know, but those of you that are listening, how to get in touch with Raven at the toward the end of the episode. So you want to stay tuned. And you know, by the way, if this brought someone to your remembrance while you were listening, okay, you need to hit the share button and share it with a sister who may not have gone through exactly the same thing that Raven has gone through, but you hear bits and pieces that resonates with that sister or sisters, maybe you have a few couple of friends. Share the program, share, share the episode with them. All right, what has surprised you, Raven, the most about stepping into entrepreneurship as a woman of faith?

SPEAKER_02

It surprised me how calming it's been just going into the process, how easy it has been because it's something that was called from God.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, definitely, definitely. So you work and just help me to remember, you work how many days a week as a medical professional?

SPEAKER_02

I work Monday through Friday.

SPEAKER_04

Monday through Friday. When you come home, Raven, do you just sit around and watch TV?

SPEAKER_02

When I come home, I'm doing dinner. I have homework to do with my son. Of course, I have a dog. Oh my goodness. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I'm I'm either off going to take care, I have a little lady that I take care of. So I'll go and take care of her, get her ready for bed. I'm constantly moving. Wow. Constantly moving.

SPEAKER_04

And I bet when you are doing your business, it doesn't even seem like work, does it?

SPEAKER_02

It doesn't. It doesn't. I am so filled with joy when I'm actually sitting down. Creating my grace covers me. The ideals putting it down, just it just it flows so well with me. I'm in my I'm in a peaceful, happy place.

SPEAKER_04

You are in your essence when you are in alignment with your assignment. And entrepreneurship is not for the weak. It is not. Because the work you put in and and being faith-based and field, I can say this to you. Work as if it all depends on you.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

But pray as if it all depends on God, because it does. God sees what you're doing, and what you're doing is in the natural. But Raven, I want to tell you, when you pray, he's going to add super to your natural, and doors of opportunities are going to open for you. As a matter of fact, as I was, as I've been talking right here, right now with you, fashion show came in my spirit. And I knew it wasn't for me. So it must be for you.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

So fashion show.

SPEAKER_02

God has actually, he has filled my mind so much with ideals for Grace Covers Me. He has.

SPEAKER_04

Do you write them down? You record it?

SPEAKER_02

I write them down. Good. I just, I'm dreaming of them. I'm just I'm ready. I am ready.

SPEAKER_04

I am definitely. And like I said, I love the name of the business, Grace Covers Me. And me is capitalized because it should be.

SPEAKER_02

Me, yes. Yes. It should be. Everybody that wears my shirt, whatever they purchase from me, I want them to get the understanding of the grace that God has for us.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, absolutely. So what legacy? It's important to know what legacy that you want grace covers me to leave for your son and for the women who wear your um fashion, your shirts, whatever. I just know it's gonna be more than that.

SPEAKER_02

But oh, it's a lot. It's gonna be a lot.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so what do you want your legacy to be?

SPEAKER_02

I want my legacy to um encourage. I want it to have people know that they're not forgotten, they're always covered.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yes. Because when God's grace covers you, nothing is impossible. Nothing, nothing is impossible. I love that. Oh my gosh. You have radiance, Raven. You have resilience, and you are becoming a journey, you're in a journey, but I have a saying about journey. There is joy in the journey. You can't write the word journey without joy. So that's good. Don't forget that. Don't forget that. So, what has God the the the biggest lesson God has taught you?

SPEAKER_02

The biggest lesson that God has taught me is faith. Do not let your faith go. And faith regardless of what you're saying.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely. And how much how much faith you think we need?

SPEAKER_02

They say a mustard seed.

SPEAKER_04

Come on. Do you know a mustard seed is the smallest seed possible? So you don't have to have a truckload. It's one little mustard seed, and that is faith. And faith is an action word, wouldn't you say, Raven? Faith is not sitting on, you know, no, that's that's not faith. Faith is you going out and doing what you know to do and let God guide you by his spirit for the rest. So if you could speak, Raven, to the version of you who felt lost, hurting, uncertain, what would you tell her now?

SPEAKER_02

I would tell her that I'm proud of her. I'm proud of you taking um a step that you didn't think you could take. I'm proud of you accepting God the way you've always wanted to accept God.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Coming out boldly with your love for God.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yes, absolutely. It is not, no, no closet Christians or believers, you know, not necessarily a Christian, just a believer. No, don't hide it. Yeah, don't hide it. The world needs it. And as a matter of fact, it's so beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

It's so beautiful to actually really accept him and follow him. It's beautiful.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, it is. Yes. You know, we have a saying here on She Shines with Coach KG that we want women to rise, reclaim, and radiate. And I'm telling you, when you are walking by faith and not by sight, your radiance will draw people to you. Yes. And that is your opportunity to witness to them about what God is doing in your life. Yes. Wow. What a beautiful story, Raven. One that is full of faith. Yes. And it kicked doubt and fear to the curve.

SPEAKER_02

It did. It really did.

SPEAKER_04

So I want to say how proud I am of you. In the short time I've known you, I am so proud of what you're doing. And that's why she shines with Coach KG Exist. Because I want women to know and see and hear stories of women just like you that are listening. Hear the stories of oh, she went through that back surgery. Yeah. And she's on the other side at 38 years old. No excuses. No excuses. So that's why we have these women come on She Shines with Coach KG, because they shine. But you got to know the backstory of what they went through. Because you may be sitting there and you're saying, Coach KG, you just don't know what I've gone through. Well, you keep listening to these episodes and you might even hear what you're going through from some of these women. Well, that was the empowerment segment of She Shines with Coach KG. Now, and if you've been listening, you know we have that lightning fire round. And now, Raven, and I call it Raven's Radiance Rapid Fire. Look at it. Those R's just roll. So these are fast, fun, spirit-filled questions, Raven. Just whatever comes to mind. Don't hold back. All right. There is no censorship on Coach. She shines with Coach KG. So here we go. Raven, what is one word that describes the woman you are becoming?

SPEAKER_02

Bold.

SPEAKER_04

Bold. Write it down, ladies. Write it down. All right. What is a scripture or phrase that grounds you right now?

SPEAKER_02

Scripture that a phrase that grounds me.

SPEAKER_04

I would say. Just something you think about or you find yourself saying during the course of a day to yourself.

SPEAKER_02

I would say walk by faith and not by sight.

SPEAKER_04

There she goes. See, write that down, ladies. Walk by faith, not by sight. All right. Here's another one. What is a song? Because you just seem like you love music. And I don't know if you do or not, but what is a song that carried you through your healing season?

SPEAKER_02

Lord, do it for me.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yes. Oh my goodness. Write that down. Go check it out. Um, do you know the artist who sings it? If not, they can Google it. I don't. Okay, go Google it. Type it in. Yeah, that's right. Type, Lord, do it for me. Oh, and he is no respector of persons. If he did it for Raven, he'll do it for you. All right, here's another one. A favorite piece or message from Grace Covers Me. Because I know you have T, you have T-shirts right now, right? I do. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And I have T-shirts and sweatshirts.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_02

My favorite piece would be my sweatshirt. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

All right.

SPEAKER_02

Sweatshirts.

SPEAKER_04

And it has what? G C M?

SPEAKER_02

G C M. And then I have some that have different designs on the back of them. I have, I love, I love workout stuff. So I have crop top. I have some that's cut in the back. I mean.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my good. Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_02

I love everything about Grace Covers Me.

SPEAKER_04

Definitely. Wow. So last one. Something that instantly makes you feel covered in grace. Something that instantly makes you feel covered in grace.

SPEAKER_02

The presence of the Lord. The presence of the Lord. Yes. Presence of the Lord. There is no it's a constant reminder. Yes. Coverance.
