Not Gonna Hold Back
Not gonna hold back Andrew and Peggy Shustek is a weekly podcast about growing up, growing forward, and figuring life out when nothing is fully figured out yet.
From college life to family dynamics, culture, entertainment, and the kind of stories you only tell once you’re brave enough, this show covers it all. Some episodes are funny. Some are uncomfortable. Some are honest in ways that feel a little too real.
This is where family drama meets real conversations. Where laughter sits next to hard truths. Where everyday life and personal stories all collide.
If it’s on our mind, it’s on this mic.

Volunteering For Extra Carry-On
SPEAKER_02And this episode is gonna be a little crazy because we were at the airport one time and we had too many bags.
SPEAKER_01Airport traveling is always like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get, right? And going through so many cities. We were in Boston, right? We were in Boston. We were yeah, we were in Boston. I can't remember why we were there. Oh, we went to a Patriots game. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Tom Brady Forever, the goat. And then somebody, sure somebody's gonna hate you for that. So one of the people that we had with us had a business meeting, so we had to take the suitcase with us to the airport. Well, we didn't have to. We were we were silly and we volunteered. We volunteered to take the suitcase to the airport.
SPEAKER_01I don't recommend volunteering to take your traveling companion's luggage.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't either. Unless you guys are already through the security. Because this is where it gets a little crazy, okay, guys?
SPEAKER_01So Yeah, and we I mean it wasn't excessive. There was no check-on luggage, it was just carry-on. So you had a backpack and carry-on.
SPEAKER_02No, I had the two carry-ons, and you have a backpack.
SPEAKER_01I had a backpack and a carry-on, but didn't you have a backpack and a carry-on? And then we had his carry-on.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so we had one extra carry-on.
SPEAKER_02So he Uber drives us to the airport. And we get there. And we both have pre-check, so we normally can go right through. And this TSA agent, I'm gonna just call her a Karen, because she was stops me, let my mom go through and stops me and says, Sir, you can't go through. You got too many bags.
SPEAKER_01And my point was is let the airline handle it. I mean, thank you, TSA, for doing your job. Yes. Like, I fully appreciate the fact that you're all out there working hard, and sometimes you're working and you're not even getting paid. So kudos to that. However, you are just checking for you are not the baggage allowance patrol.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean? Yes. So I scream, Mom, and she's like, What? And I'm like, she won't let me go through. So my mom comes back and says, Why will you not let us go through? He has too many bags, and she says, He has a backpack.
SPEAKER_01I well, I explained, I attempted to explain the situation to her that our friend, our friend was coming, and they had they were behind and we had their bag. And she said, Oh no. Like she's I said, this is ridiculous. Like, and and I think I even said to her, you're not in charge of baggage alliance. Like, you're not the baggage allowance police. She said something, and I said, This is ridiculous. And she said, Oh, people, listen, I wake up every morning and I have I have made a good life by being kind to everyone I meet. I go out of my way to be kind to people. My goal every day is to make one person smile, right? Do one good deed, make one person smile every single day of my life. And I believe in karma, and I have had a very blessed, fortunate life living now. That's just how I live. She says, would it be ridiculous if I called the police or security?
SPEAKER_02No, it was the police.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it was the police because she was TSA because who else was she gonna call? The freaking president? Because I had a bag too much. Anyway, so I just looked at her in that moment, and I went, Oh, it'd be ridiculous if I called my mother. She was alive at that time. May she rest in peace. And Andrew looks at me, and she looks at me because she has nothing to say about it. And I'm like, this is so stupid. And she ref she literally refused to let him go through security with those bags. So we actually sat outside the airport. Well, not outside, but we were outside in the before the security check for like three and a half hours waiting for our other person to arrive so that we could go through with the bag. Finally, he got there and he was very surprised to see us sitting out there, which whatever you don't want to listen. I embellish when I relive situations a lot, especially on that day. And uh anyway, we went through and he started to go through and I said, Let's go through a different area. He to go through a different gate because at that point she was still there, and I figured it was not gonna be pretty. She and I we sat there for three hours, she was looking at it. I'm surprised that she didn't call the police. Although I am proud to say that I have made it thus far through life, and I have never had the police. Well, that's not true. Police have been called on me once or twice, but I've never gotten in any trouble. It is a misunderstanding.
Plane Boarding Trip And Angry Stranger
SPEAKER_02Just because this is airport drama stories, we're gonna tell you, no, what about the lady?
SPEAKER_01Is that where you were going? The lady that jumps up where hunger say, what the hell? Listen, airport people told the f around. That's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02No, my it was me, my mom, and a random person. And my mom sat in the middle. Wait, we were, yeah, we were on the fence.
SPEAKER_01Your dad had sat down, you were on the end, I was in the middle, and there was behind you. Yes, and you had to go to the bathroom, so I let you up. She comes back down and I okay, in my in my defense and and hers also, I was trying to get get by. And you know, when you're traveling, like with Andrew or my husband, Mike, and they don't want to move, so you're trying to step over them. It's like, get your up so I can get through to my seat or get out. Whatever. I've learned to navigate. So I go to step over Ange, and my foot gets caught, and I like plop, and it was a hard plop, I will say. Like, I basically fell into the seat. No, we were loading the plane. We were loading the plane. I put my bag up. I didn't have to go to the bathroom. We were loading the plane, so I put my bag up, and then he didn't move, so I went to step over. And I did again, it was a hard fall, right? And I wasn't even paying attention. So I fall in the chair and I sit there, and I had heard something, but there was no way somebody I didn't know was speaking to me, so I didn't I didn't even think about it. And this old bat stood up and grabbed like the back of my chair, and she screams, what the hell are you doing? Because I shook the seat. I people, in my defense, Andrew's face is what alerted me as to something was not right. But honestly, I didn't even know she was talking to me. I felt I could have been injured, right? And your face was like, what he's laughing so hard, probably like he isn't now, except he's burying his face and trying to cover it because I mean, he's like bent over, you know, the seats are small. Anyway, he's bent over, his hands are in his face, and I just see his body jerking from the laughter, and I'm like looking at him, you know, trying to get a heads up. And then he starts to tell me he can't tell me quietly. So I'm like just like waving him off. I don't want to know. And so we tell you at one point that sometime during the flight, he told me it was it a short flight or a long flight?
SPEAKER_02We think we were going, we were going to Flor Florida from my birthday. I think it happened when we were going to Florida from my birthday.
SPEAKER_01It was a not not a not like a puddle jumper, but it was a couple hours. So anyway, he tells me. So I was like, and I had heard some, like I said, when I when I fell down, I had heard someone's voice raise, but there was no way they were speaking to me, right? Because whatever. And then he tells me, and I was like, What? And he goes, Ma, I go, Oh my god. I'm like, I heard a voice, but I wasn't even paying attention to what was being said because they weren't with me. And he starts laughing, and then I'm like, Oh my god, that's hysterical. Meanwhile, we get off the plane ahead of her, of course, because we're ahead of her. This rolls up in a freaking wheelchair, people. Now, wait a minute, she is in a wheelchair rolling her fat little through the airport in Florida. However, mind you, when I tripped and jostled her seat, she jumped up out of that seat like a spider was on her. She did not need a wheelchair. Speaking of that, that pisses me off. People in wheelchairs who don't need them because they're just too lazy to move about. We see that a lot. You see that a lot in the airport, you see that a lot like in theme parks. Listen, here's a clue. This is gonna piss some people off. Get your lazy ass out and walk. If you don't want to walk around the theme park and you truly have nothing wrong with you, don't go. You don't need a wheelchair, they're inconvenient. If you need a wheelchair, I'm all about it. I'm all about people and I will give respect to those who need it. But if you are just in a wheelchair because it moves you to the front of the line sooner, or you get perks, get your lazy out of that wheelchair.
SPEAKER_02But the best part was is she had a friend that looked like a monster.
SPEAKER_01They were angry and they were stink-eyeing me in the airport at the baggage claim. We actually have a picture of it that we will upload to the no, we will not be uploading that picture. We did. I did take a picture of it, though, people, because she was like stink-eyeing me. She was a monster. It actually did turn out to be funny. These are the kind of things we laugh about, and she was pissed off. I didn't even know she was bothered by this whole thing. So, what good did it do to piss herself off? I mean, had she tapped me on the shoulder and I realized she was speaking to me, I would have apologized, apologized and explained to her that I simply tripped. I don't normally plop down like a, you know, Shrek, so to speak, in the airplane chair. But yeah. Her friend did look like Shrek, though. Switzer.
Toolbox Surprise At Security Line
SPEAKER_01Wait, and remember, were we together the time I got people? I'm sure we can all talk about airport stories.
SPEAKER_02Well, it could be like I want to go into the warm two episode. So I want to go into the one where we were heading to Costa Rica, and me and my father went through, she was running behind, my mom was running behind, and me and my dad get through security, and this guy brings hammers and drills through security.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they were telling me that. I went to check the bag, you're right. And uh so we didn't think the airport was gonna be that busy because it was like 5 a.m. But joke was on us. The airport was very busy because apparently not everyone had reported to work on time. So I went to check the bag downstairs at the at the baggage ticket counter, and you guys went on through, and I thought it was gonna take me forever. I literally thought I was gonna miss the flight. There was one line open, and they were checking everybody, and now I know why. When I finally got to the other side, Andrew and Mike were just standing on the other side of security, and they were like shaking their heads like, you're not gonna believe this. And I thought, oh my God, what could happen so early in the morning? It's not like a chair ploppy. And they were telling me that it took them forever to get through because there was a a gentleman who apparently thought he was gonna bring his toolbox on the plane, and it was no big deal that he had hammers and nails and screwdrivers and what have you. And well, I guess he found out through security that wasn't gonna happen. I mean, I get it. Sometimes we might have something as ladies like in our bags, or you might have something that you just forgot to take out. But that's one thing. It's not, I mean, come on, a toolbox? What about the time you went through Reno, which really spooked Andrew, you
Accidental Ammo Shells In Backpack
SPEAKER_01guys? He was on this doing this show at college, which was assassins, and they had a bullet or something. They had to like fire a fake bullet. I don't know, maybe they just had to show bullets on the stage. Anyway, somehow or the other, one of the bullets showed up in your backpack, but you didn't know it was there.
SPEAKER_02No, I it was my work backpack, and I was leaving right after that rehearsal, and I just threw all the bullets in there, not thinking anything about it. And then I got to the airport and continued.
SPEAKER_01And they pulled his bag for a screening, and the guy said, What do you have in here? And he's like, Nothing. And the guy's like, You have bullets in here, you have ammunition, and he's like, No, I don't. And the guy runs it through and shows him on the screen. And of course, they weren't real bullets, they were empty castings, right? They were shell casings. Anyway, there were one or two in there, and they, you know, did the hand swabbing, and obviously he, I don't, he's never he didn't have any gunpowder or anything, so they let him through because it was empty. But he was so spooked when I picked him up at the airport. I remember he came home and unpacked that backpacking threw it immediately. No, I they were inside the lining. So I met the guy. The guy probably thought you were being shady because of that, but I don't think you knew there was a hole in there. No wet.
SPEAKER_02So anyway, so then I came home and I was like, wait, there's a bullet, there's bullets in here. I shook it out and they they all fell out.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. And then he still didn't want the backpack as if the backpack had done something to him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And you remember that one where we were loading the plane and you put your bag up and your phone had to be.
SPEAKER_01That's the one I was gonna talk about.
Phone Drop And Vacation Scolding
SPEAKER_01So we were going to Universal that morning. I remember to Universal for the day. It was just me and him. And I don't know why I had a bag. Maybe it was just a backpack. I think it was just we didn't have bags, so I threw my backpack up there. Well, when I did, it it was my mistake. I put my phone like in my armpit of all places. I don't know why. And then I, you know, tried to little arm it up into the overhead storage bin. And my phone slipped out of my armpit. Now, people, it was a phone, it wasn't an iPad, it wasn't a laptop, and there was an older gentleman sitting in the seat, and when my phone when my phone slipped out, it hit his shoulder and slid down behind him. Let me tell you, his wife was sitting across from him, was on the other side of the aisle. This old bat went off on me. It didn't hit the man's head, it wasn't even that high. It hit his shoulder. Apparently, they were on their way to celebrate their 65th or 900th anniversary because they were slightly older than they should have been. She said, You could have ruined our whole vacation. And I looked at her and I apologized, and I apologized to him, and I said, That was irresponsible of me. I should not have allowed the foam to slip out. And I said to her, ma'am, it just hit his shoulder and went down his back. I mean, it wouldn't have hurt an infant people. She was harping the whole the entire freaking flight. I mean, I felt bad.
SPEAKER_02I I was like mortified and me and my mom weren't even sitting next to each other.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I apologized like profusely, and she just kept on and kept on, and I was just like, Oh my god, this lady's just just stop is what I wanted her to stop. I mean, I mean say sorry. There was a guy sitting behind her, and he finally, this man said to her, ma'am, she apologized multiple times. The phone slid behind your husband's back, leave her alone. And she finally like shut up and stopped. Thank God for that man. If you remember the situation and you hear this episode, thank you, sir. I didn't get to thank him, but she was like we were texting you back and forth. Like, what is wrong with her? She thinks I own the airline and they're gonna get free trips for the rest of their short lives. I don't know what was going on. She was in a bad mood, but yeah, that was so I mean airplanes, airports, they're the best story, memory-making spots is what I call them. Something else happened. Something else happened. All kinds of things happened at the airport. Uh anyway, we're gonna move on from the airport.
International Airports That Actually Work
SPEAKER_01Oh, although the airport in Costa Rica, I will tell you, back to Costa Rica was well, it was busy, but however, it's hot down there.
SPEAKER_02Like the airport does not have AC like the airports that we're used to in America. They have little fans blowing little tiny air.
SPEAKER_01But immigration and customs moves rather quickly. No, immigration moves quickly. It's customs that had the long it the line going all the way down. When we got to Costa Rica, the line was probably, you know, in those lines, how they fold across. It was probably like six, six lines deep when we got off the plane. Um, and that's but it moved quickly.
SPEAKER_02And not just that, we got off the plane, we went through customs, and then all of a sudden, you know how like when we are at vague like airports in Vegas where your luggage goes around the carousel a couple times, it was so weird. We were in customs for I don't even know, like 12 minutes, 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_01Immigration where we went through before we had to go get the luggage. Yeah, no, we were there for like 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_02We were there for 10 minutes and then we went through and we saw the line, but our bags were on the carousel thingy. They for some odd reason they were all already out and put against the wall.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but they were in that customs line, everything had to go through customs, probably 300 people deep. We spent an hour in customs, not immigration. But I will say kudos to Singapore Airport. That airport is efficient as they as they come. And China also, the summer we found. China for as old as the airport appears to be. Yeah, the navigating and the flow of people through there, if you have the proper visa, was incredible. Well, they said we didn't need a visa, okay? Yeah, but that that was pretty good. There, there are several airports. I mean, I have obviously my favorite airports to fly in and out of just due to the efficiency. International airports, people, America, USA, is not leading in technology at this time because the airports in Japan and Singapore are Hong Kong, are hands down superior to the way the USA handles passengers and getting through. Yeah. Where were we going through when it told us to just keep looking forward?
SPEAKER_02I think we were going back through, I think we were going through Singapore. Well, no, we were going through Dallas to have home.
SPEAKER_01Dallas. Dallas is making it happen. We went through Dallas and we were going through uh clear or global entry or whatever, whatever one we were using. And they said, just keep looking forward, keep your head up and keep moving. And we walked through there. And by the time we had reached the officer, he called us by our names and said, You're clear, go on through. So, Dallas, you are doing a whale of a job. You are doing a will.
