The Heart of the Episode:
This episode takes a deep dive into the hidden, subtle architecture of our internal guidance systems and how we can learn to trust the quiet whispers of the soul. Elisha sits down with intuitive mentor and guide Cathleen Carlin to explore how early childhood survival and high-sensitivity alert environments can fast-track the development of psychic and intuitive abilities. The conversation centers on moving out of logical hyper-vigilance, dismantling the collective guilt programmed into us, and reclaiming your intuition to live an authentic, sovereign life.
The Transmission:
The dialogue breaks down the mechanics of somatic and energetic perception, revealing how our bodies map out the world before our minds do:
* The Child Adult and the Psychic Antenna: When children are forced to navigate volatile or highly sensitive environments, their intuitive abilities develop early as a necessary self-protection mechanism. Learning to "read a room" maps a hyper-awareness into the nervous system that can later be reclaimed and refined into a profound psychic gift.
* The Guilt Programming Barrier: Especially for women, societal and ancestral conditioning programs a deep-seated layer of guilt around prioritizing one's own needs or inner knowing. Moving past this requires recognizing that ignoring your intuition to keep others comfortable is a slow form of self-abandonment.
* Reactivating Set-Aside Gifts: Intuition isn't a selective gift reserved for a chosen few—it is a baseline human trait. If you feel disconnected from your internal compass, you haven't lost access; you've simply set it aside to favor logic, and it is actively waiting for you to slow down and listen again.
Invitation From Elisha:
“I invite you to step away from the exhausting cycle of questioning your own inner radar or telling yourself that you don't possess intuitive gifts. My deepest hope is that you allow yourself to drop your armor, clear away the collective programming of guilt, and begin aggressively listening to the quiet, natural guidance of your own soul as you navigate your human journey.”

At the same time, I was on high sensitivity alert. So my psychic abilities or my intuitive abilities already had started to develop as a self-protection mechanism. I learned to read a room. I learned to read people. I learned like the dangers of I just I learned a lot. I was an adult as a child.
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to That's Just Human, a podcast that explores all aspects of being human, living in a human body, and dealing with life's obstacles. I'm your host, Elisha Light Angel, and by day I'm a massage therapist. Right now I'm a podcaster, and like you, I live in a human body and I have a plethora of human experiences. This is the space I like to chat about not just my own experiences, but hear about other people's experiences in life as well. If you are listening and you would like to see what me and my uh guests look like, you can head on over to YouTube where you can also like and comment and learn more about us. Today I am really excited to introduce my next guest. Her name is Kathleen, and she is the founder of The Unbridled Intuitive. So she's got over like 15 years of experience and corporate background in a clairvoyant-led coach. So she gives high-achieving women clarity to discover what they actually want, and she brings real-world business experience as well as a direct line to spirit. So she's able to merge those two and help people out. So please join me in welcoming Kathleen. Thank you for coming on to my podcast. Absolutely. So I am really excited. Um, so you obviously didn't start out just directly talking to Spirit. So can you give a little background on your journey and how you have come to have a spirit-led connection that you can use to help other people now?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. So even though now I help and give high-achieving women the clairvoyant insight they need to move forward without guilt for what they are, that wasn't always the case. So I'll be a little vulnerable with you. I grew up as an only child of an alcoholic parent, a single alcoholic parent, and I learned to be invisible and that I didn't matter, and to stay hidden. And if I ever thought about myself putting myself first, asking for anything, I was guilt-ridden. And I was made to feel guilty if I asked. At the same time, I was on high sensitivity alert. So my psychic abilities or my intuitive abilities already had started to develop as a self-protection mechanism. I learned to read a room, I learned to read people, I learned like the dangers that I just I learned a lot. I was an adult as a child. And that is how I had started out. I got a little bit older, late teens, early 20s, I was on my own and started to move forward with things that I wanted, and was able what I considered selfish, which wasn't at all. They were just things that that I kind of wanted for myself, and went after them a little less guilt-free. But I realized like I was still empty. That emptiness that I had in childhood was just attached to me, and I didn't know how to shake it. Um, meanwhile, my gifts had been evolving and developing still, and people were coming to me all the time with their little challenges, their you know, issues, their problems. And then one day it dawned on me that after I would speak to someone, their face would light up, they would walk away happy and lighter. And it still hadn't fully enveloped my brain what was really happening. I just knew that that made me feel really good, and it started to fill that hole that was inside of me a little bit forward. In my late 20s, I opened a business, and that's when things really started to come full circle, and I really started to understand myself and uh goodness, my intuitive and psychabilities, clairvoyance, connection with other people, filling that lost uh empty space. Down the road. Um after I I reconnected back with myself and became what I consider more of a whole person again, because really I was walking around guilty, confused, and in fear for so many years. Now I have turned that into a business because I was very high achieving. I accomplished a lot. But what was going through my head, it was like, why do I feel guilty for wanting more or something different? So I turned this into a business to help high-achieving women who are sitting there thinking, I checked every box, I look great on paper. I still feel kind of empty. Something's missing, and they feel guilty about actually wanting more for themselves. And also, what I found is that seems to be a common theme among women learning to put themselves second to everyone else, and actually needing permission to say yes to themselves. I deserve this, I deserve to want more, I deserve to get more. It's okay, I'm not hurting anybody. Self-love is a good thing. So that's how the unbridled into it aimed to be.
SPEAKER_00Wow. That's pretty cool. So you've definitely been tapped in, and you mentioned your clairvoyant scene for people that don't know what that means. Do you have any other clairs that come in for the way that you are sensing spirit or a message that's coming through?
SPEAKER_01I'm pretty heavy, heavily, I call it heavily flared up. Uh, part of that again was that traumatic childhood. I I had to learn to draw and get help from other sources all around. Um, when I'm speaking with someone, sometimes it's dependent on what their strongest ability is. I may feel them physically, I can feel their sorrow, their pain, their ache, whatever it is. Uh sometimes it's a song, a voice. Occasionally, very occasionally, it's like clairgousto, where I will taste something. It'll be sour or sweet. Um, clair cognizance, clairsentience, and clairvoyance are probably my strongest ones. Um, but like a lot of people, um, I am empathetic. So feeling sometimes I could just walk past people and actually feel what they're experiencing. So uh that's on me. That's a boundary issue. I have to be real careful um to protect that. But I I do have some crazy abilities that allow me to really get in there, help people, and see. Uh, and when I say clairvoyance, it allows me to actually stand with you and not just see what you're seeing on the road ahead of you, but rise above it and get the whole picture. And using that gives me more wisdom to say, try, you know, look at this route. Have you explored that? Have you thought about this? And intriguing people to think more because I don't actually give you the answers because that's not my place. My place is to be a conduit for spirit and have them say, just like I told you when in our little mini session, this is what I'm hearing, this is what I'm seeing, that's just spirit telling me, speaking to me, or showing me visually or physically.
SPEAKER_00Do you find the the way that you receive is affected by the kind of person you're dealing with? Like maybe their energy somehow affects the way that your intuition is picking up whatever they need.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Absolutely. And before I even say there's any intuition or clearance involved, if I was talking to someone and their body language was telling a different story than their mouth was, right away we can address it. And people always know they're like, you're right, that's totally incongruent. Uh what I'm saying doesn't match what I'm feeling. And at that point, there's an actual entry point where they'll maybe open up and allow me in so that we can explore what's really happening, what the problem really is. The the truth people speak sometimes is what they think everybody wants to hear. But what's really residing in their heart, what they want is not the same thing. Does that answer?
SPEAKER_00Interesting. Uh I'm just fascinated that that's how a lot of people operate and essentially lying to their own selves and having that internal environment being a little bit different.
SPEAKER_01It's not, I mean, just from talking to you now and and previously, you're like me, we wear a heart on our sleeve. It's out there for everyone to see. That's a vulnerable place to live in, and it took me a lot of years to get there. You're very comfortable with it.
SPEAKER_00I am now. I was not always. Oh, okay. I was I was once so guarded that I took pride in being a mystery to everybody. Okay. I mean, so much that even people with that were my partners in a relationship living with me for years will tell me, you're a mystery. And that's probably not a good thing. Like you want to be, I've now learned to be more open, but it's all these life experiences that gave me the opportunity to learn and reflect on that so I could grow and then be where I am, vulnerable. But I definitely have not been that growing up. But like you, I'm very intuitive. And you know, some of that might be from some childhood trauma, and then other parts are just like, huh, like my um my clear my knowing, my sense of knowing is really strong. It's so strong that I will think that I don't know that I know something like something odd, and I just thought about a bunny. I don't know why I thought about a bunny, but it it's just things are just there and it's not associated with anything. Um, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01We're soul sisters to address those people, they're still in the mood you just described or the life you just described, and that's the protection mode. Their brain's trying to protect them, the heart's trying to protect them, they're wearing that suit of armor. Yes, they are lying to themselves. They're not necessarily trying to lie to the rest of the world, they're just trying to protect themselves, and that's all it is. They just haven't gotten to the point where they can start releasing that.
SPEAKER_00Yes, that's so true. Um, and and a lot of people, it's all about our healing process that we're going through. And so even coaching somebody can be taking them through a healing process in a way because it's helping that self-growth and that redirection. And you have to want to actually look at yourself if you're hiring a coach. Um, but it but it's true.
SPEAKER_01One of the questions on my intake form is Are you coachable? It's like the last one. Because you have to be willing to do the work, and they see tears sometimes. Those are people who are willing to be vulnerable, address the situation, and do the work. And then here come the goodies. That's how it works.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I like that. So just so my audience knows, I should have totally recorded this, but we did a session right before I hit record, and she asked me some of you know, just something which currently for me is envisioning my next uh road of business and creating a larger space and more offerings for my clients. And her intuition just was spot on with everything that she picked up about me, and it's just not the right time. And then, and then they told her I was spread too thin, and I didn't even tell her that, and and she picked up on that aspect of my current life. So if you're out there wondering, she definitely just picks up immediately whatever is the root or heart of your issue. So, what kind of things do women normally come to you with as far as needing help?
SPEAKER_01Well, again, I focus on the high achieving women who are still having that empty. They're needing permission to guilt free themselves into another life or another aspect of their life. Also, people will come with I'm not sure which way to go. Am I making the right decision? And again, I don't give answers, I just keep asking questions, taking information from spirit, relaying it, changing maybe the thinking paradigm that's going on in their head so that it expands, and we'll get an aha moment, we'll get more clarity, things will be put into perspective and make more sense. At the same time, there's almost always something else playing in the mix. People may have one goal, situation, challenge, or question. It's rarely just that. There's always something else involved, and it's all about life balance. It could be a health issue, it could be a family issue, it you know, it could be a multitude of things. But typically, that other issue will need to be addressed as well to see how it's influencing the not changing, you know, or the stopping people from gravitating to the change they want.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. It's because we're not just one faceted beings. We have all these different parts of us, and one area affects another area, and vice versa. So they're all interconnected in the way that we operate, bringing that back to the balance that you had talked about. So I'm curious, the women that see you, would you say that they're more maybe approaching midlife? Because obviously a 21-year-old most likely is not going to be a high achiever. I certainly wasn't. Yeah. Either.
SPEAKER_01Yes, over 40. Over 40. Occasionally I will run into, and uh, before I started coaching, I was doing a lot of readings, you know, just open readings for whoever, and generally 20 somethings. You can guess what that's about.
SPEAKER_00Is it who they're they gonna be with?
SPEAKER_01Oh, bears of the heart. Yep. Been there, done that. Yeah, so adult, adult over over 40, I would say women and women uh I'm 62. So women in my age group sometimes think is over, game over, put on some granny shoes, don't wear makeup anymore. Well, seriously, and give it up because sometimes you know you're not treated as you know the way younger people are. So I have spoken with women like that as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, all those life changes. What about mothers? Because I feel like this would be a a huge area where you go through most of your life being a mother, then your kids grow up and now you have empty nest syndrome, right? You are in the position of getting reacquainted with yourself. Uh what do you like? You've given up everything that you've liked for so many years, you don't even know anymore.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. I would happily work with mothers, empty nesters. I just haven't. Um, it may be because I've never had children. So I don't have that experience to draw on. However, I have so much experience in the business world and in life in general. Um, you know, I certainly have a lot to add on that front if they're looking to move into something and to clarify which direction, get back into their interests and solidify a move. I would love to do that for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think that could be a whole thing. It just makes me think of it because I've actually talked and done interviews with a few moms and specifically about motherhood for them and some of those challenges that come up. And then I'm in the phase of life where now I I was a part-time parent from like when my son was six onward, but now he's 19 and going off to live his little adult life. And and um so while I don't have emptiness syndrome because I've had all of these years to get acquainted with myself in a way that other mothers have not had because they've been full time moms. I have lots of friends who are still in that position and moving into that phase of life. And I could imagine that that would just be an area you might want some coaching. on what to do next or ways to get back in touch with yourself.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. You may have designed my next program.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you're welcome. I love it. So do you have a program currently that's like a group program?
SPEAKER_01I do not have a group because I have never figured out how to bring what I do into a group setting. Like you just experienced me one-on-one. I other than I used to do collective readings online just for the fun of it, but to actually do the part I love, which is the back and forth, the coaching, the wisdom, the alignment. If I can figure out a way to do a group program, I've even named one. It's on my my booking site, but it's not done yet because I don't know what people want within that area. If I find out I will design one and then figure out how to get it out to the women that would be interested. I don't know maybe the group of nip, you know, empty nester moms.
SPEAKER_00Right. Well also creating a community like for if it was empty nester moms, having a community of other people going through that same life experience and then maybe it's different activities or you're diving into different subjects each time that the the group meets but also having that area where people community commune and talk to one another. I think that you found your 100th project. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I have in um a Facebook community and it was just taking so much of my time and so much work for not the return. I wasn't getting to do the work I really wanted to on it. So I had to let that go unfortunately.
SPEAKER_00No, I get that um I have had friends in life who have the talent of just telling other people that there's an event happening people show up or they could create something online for a community and then like the next thing you know hundreds of people have joined and there's some people they have this talent. Right they do and I need to find another one in my life because I don't have one but I don't have this talent I I'm the opposite I pour like all this energy into something is the coolest thing and then I tell people about it and nobody shows up. And I'm like well why did I even do that? I've tried some online stuff even tried personally sending people like invitations people don't join. I don't know I think it's an energy thing or the way that we somehow interact and so as much as I'd love to build a community I have not been successful with that at any point in my life so that might not be my like my thing.
SPEAKER_01It's a lot of work it's a lot of work I spent maybe six months hitting it hard and finally I said I I can't get enough people to show up and participate within the community and I did a few online things live and I had to ask myself for all this time and energy you know the most of the successful looking communities honestly are just self-serving the person who starts the community is just selling their services. That's what I found just from trying to join you know multitude of different communities and see what they were doing.
SPEAKER_00And I said I yeah forget it I let go of it you know but I think if you tapped into the absolute right vein of community you could make it work at just yeah definitely was not my forte understood so yeah one-on-one works great that's how I do my work with people one on one but I'm also massaging people if I were like trying to massage two people at the same time I'm not sure how that works out well right yeah it'd be the best massage ever one-handed twice as much money right yeah yeah that's how it works so have you had any obstacles that you've had to overcome in building up your career and then even branching off from just business world to business intuitive you the biggest obstacle really a challenge that I faced is this whole online world.
SPEAKER_01I have been working in the face-to-face contact or office so translating everything to online getting comfortable on camera getting comfortable pitching all of it has been a huge challenge for me that's where the challenge has been and the truth of the matter is at some point I want a physical office to work out of again you know I I don't want to do this I'm a Reiki master I do Egyptian Reiki you have to have an office I can do a few distance healings but it's just not worth the time and trouble um so eventually that will all come back together in my little office by the beach somewhere oh I love it nice little vision you currently live near a beach I do I live above Alki beach in Seattle West Seattle okay cool it's a cold beach but a beach exactly it's not Florida or California no yeah I'm just the Southern girl over here going oh yep Seattle's cold I'm ready to move when the opportunity presents itself I'm heading out that's cool so have you been single or partnered for a lot of your life journey you don't have any kids so I'm kind of curious how um how life has played out for you in that regard since it's not everybody's womanly experience to get to Right I know I know I had godchildren that was enough yeah no I had several wonderful relationships along the way I never wanted to get married and I never wanted children so that in part of it we were sharing the same that protective thing early you know from the early years I had a lot of that I had too much ale male energy going on all the time I can do it myself I don't need a man you know that kind of thing so it took me a long time to start re-embracing my feminine energy to the point where I would allow like now I I'll get married soon. I bet I do I bet I meet somebody and I get married soon but I'm finally in the right energy where I will allow that um but I also had an extremely successful my first business because I was so forward and headstrong and aggressive um so I'm thankful for that you know that that played out the way it did.
SPEAKER_00Yeah I just get curious because um I know you told me I look young but I'm 45 and so I'm yeah I know I'm I'm trying to be defiant of the aging thing. This is part of my life goals. You failed it well I'm not done with life so I have to keep on being but even with relationships I'm currently I guess about a year and a half out of a relationship and normally I've been um like just jumped relationship to relationship with not a lot of time. So this is actually the longest I have ever been single in my entire life since like being a teenager. So it's it's really interesting to evaluate being like part of me just loves that I can do whatever I want to do um whenever however nobody's here to tell me that they don't like my style or not that color or whatever it is. But then there's also like the missing just the daily companionship. And and so I you know I'm still like reflecting on a lot of things and I'm sure I will until what somebody else pops into my life that actually catches my attention because boy there's a lot of people that just don't I see where you're at I I do believe this is true. Your right person and I mean for everyone embraces everything about you as wonderful period if it's a funky thing you wear if it's a funky thing you say whatever it is your person loves the whole thing and there's absolutely no question when they roll in is it the person should I wonder it's absolute we don't think about it it's that's the one and the relationship is moving along right without I even hear a lot of women as they get older um especially ones who have been through maybe they were married for 20 or 30 years and then now they're single and after being single for five six years or something that it becomes a preferred way of life. Yeah and it does I've heard the saying too that um you know we have we find our own inner peace and so then inviting somebody else in becomes you know are you good for my inner peace are you bad for my inner peace because if you're not like get out yeah my my person is can will follow this and that is you are on my side by my side or in my way so if you pass that test dude you're in okay well if they're in the way would you not want them to be in the way because I would be like get out of my way the wrong person will be in your way gotcha that's just the way it is and the right person will always be on your side will always take your side will have your back they're just they don't question it they don't ask they don't question you they're just there that's what I believe like love is yeah I mean I definitely have found that in friends too and because there I have some very deep friendships and I really appreciate them and we're you know at this point hundreds of miles apart because I moved but but we still stay connected and then it may not be you know friendships where you're on the phone every day or anything like that. But when we do connect it's always deep it's always seeing into one another holding space for one another but you also know that's a person that you can call when life gets a little heavy or hard sometimes and they'll be there. So I I really think that friendships should be valued more than we value them because those are the people that usually see you even go through some different partnerships and they're still there. They're still even though they were telling you all along he was wrong they are or sometimes they don't tell you till after and like I never liked that person like why didn't you say anything never say anything never never never so yeah just just a little interesting tidbits about getting older moving through relationships and and also highly intrigued that you're a thriving single woman and you're single I am yeah I am I think Mr. Wright is actually on his way in my door okay yeah well I hope he comes along and then y'all move to the beach right somewhere warm yes a warm beach not this beach correct right um yeah awesome is then I did have oh go ahead I was gonna ask if there's anything else that you wanted to share that I have not touched on.
SPEAKER_01So I did have a special for podcast listeners was the only yes if you want to hear about that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah um my next question was going to be where can we find you and then you also I put um the links uh in the paperwork I sent you uh my calendar booking link my Facebook link my Instagram link my LinkedIn link and my website okay websites kathleencarlin.com that's uh c at h l-e n c a r l-in for anybody that's listening and I will put all of these links in the show notes you can easily find them and then did you want to talk about your offering to the podcast listeners?
SPEAKER_01Sure in honor of this for our podcast listeners uh I am offering a single session just to get some guidance and see if there's more that someone can get I called it a clarity and activation session and again it is not something I offer I work in packages 45 days to 90 days so I thought this would be fun though for people that are maybe feeling a little lost they don't know which way to go they're not sure what they should be doing they're stuck they're stuck in guilt they're stuck in fear they're confused and that offering is an hour and it is $199 they will leave with clear vision and answers just like I gave you in our pre little session that we didn't record I know I should have I should have recorded it hindsight oh well I live and I learn I do better in the future so if they do want to take advantage of this offer which place is the best place for them to contact you they can either just book right away through the calendar link they can go to my website and hit free call and book it there and I will so they can reach me anyway I think my email is available through my Instagram link. So however if they just say podcast special I'll reach out to them and let them know that this is yeah.
SPEAKER_00Perfect y'all tell her it's that that's just human podcasts so she knows which one just just so the listeners know. Just human. So uh one last question. Sure if you can leave the listeners with any bit of wisdom from your life um anything we tapped on didn't tap on whatever just comes to you what would that be the big source of what I do is dealing with guilt.
SPEAKER_01Guilt is not truth it's made up it's a man-made emotion it's programmed into us especially as women and if you are questioning your intuition or saying I don't have intuition I don't have access that is not true you've just set it aside you're not listening to it it's there it wants you I like it that's good getting get intuitive to live a guilt free life well I really appreciate you coming onto the podcast I enjoyed talking to you and getting to know a little bit about you what you do and it's just been a nice conversation. I really appreciate it this has been really fun I was looking forward to this when is it coming? When is it coming? Is it time yet? Is it time yet? So and I love meeting you Alicia you're adorable. I just yeah your energy is fabulous.
SPEAKER_00Thank you I enjoyed meeting you thank you to my listeners if you're still with us and you like this if it resonates you can share this with somebody that you also think might resonate with it and help them out and you can also go and help me out if you rate me five stars on Spotify or on Apple iTunes helps boost the algorithms and as you enjoy life and your humanness be kind be you and remember everything is part of the journey
