Hello and welcome. Today we're looking at how to have freedom from fear, worry, nerves by learning to be still with God and to let him lead. Psalm 46 verse ten says, be still and know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. Life can feel pretty loud. Work piles upon us. News unsettles us. Our sleep slips. Your heart races. And your mind just won't stop. You try to fix it all. And yet peace stays out of reach. Into that noise. God speaks a clear word. Be still. Know that I am God. This is not a gentle suggestion. It's a call to set down the urge to control and to trust the one who holds the world. Stillness is not doing nothing. Stillness is a choice to trust. It sounds a lot like this prayer. Lord, you are God and I am not. In the Salvation Army, like many churches. We care for people. We serve them. We respond to needs. That work matters. But if we never pause, then we run on fumes and I'll see it grows. Prayer is the place where we refuel. We lay our fear at God's feet. And we lift our eyes to his strength. I know what a tight chest and a tight diary feel like. On those days that I sit with Scripture and I breathe a simple prayer. I picture a fence around my soul. God is my safe place. He is near. Yes, the storm may still range around me, but my heart stands on solid rock. So what does stillness look like in real life? Just start small. Take a short time today. Sit down. Open Psalm 46 and read that verse ten out loud. And then be quiet before God for a few minutes. Name. What's keeping you? Tense? The email, the bill, the scan. The choice. Place each one of them in God's hands. Ask him to lead. Ask for the next right step. You don't need the full plan. You just need his presence. Let God speak to you through His word. Hold one line in your mind throughout the day when fear knocks. Just say it again and be still and know that I am God. You're training your heart to look up, not in. That's how to have freedom from fear. Worry, nerves and so on. Not by pushing harder, but by trusting deeper. Choose one small act today that turns you towards peace. Go for a short walk and thank God for three good things. Phone a friend and ask how you can pray for them. Share a meal with someone who needs company. You know in the Salvation Army. I see this again and again. People with difficult times taking simple steps of service towards other and God meets them. There. Action doesn't force God's hand. It keeps your heart soft while you wait for him. Guard your words carefully. Worry loves to spill out. Ask God to keep a watch on your lips. Choose to speak. Hope. Choose to speak truth. Choose to speak. Thanks for the small signs of care. Those words will shape your day. And remember this. God's presence doesn't wait for calm. God doesn't need to the chaos to settle before he comes close. He is our refuge. While the storm is still blowing. If your soul feels like it's sliding today, just stop and breathe. Let God be your refuge. He hasn't moved. His strength hasn't changed. He's ready to help. Of course, you may ask. Well, will all this stillness fix my problems? Not always, but stillness will change you in the middle of them. God's word gives light for the next step. His presence quietens our fears. Over time, the small, steady choices build a deep life with God. Ten focus minutes a day can reset the other 23 hours. So loosen your grip. Let God be God. Be still and know. This is the doorway to peace. This is the path to freedom. Today's thought starter is this. Where do you need to take your hands off the wheel today and trust God to hold what you can't? Let's pray. Lord, I bring you my fear and my worry. I choose to be still before you. You are God and I am not. Hold what I cannot hold. Lead me in the next right step. Fill me with your peace. As I rest in you. In Jesus name, Amen. God bless you and see you next time.
