The Film Collaborative presents PEACED OFF!, a film and conversation series exploring the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Hosted by Orly Ravid and Abe Gurko.
Hi, my name is Orly Ravid. I'm the founder of the Film Collaborative. We've been wanting to do a film series about Israeli and Palestinian stories for a long time, but especially after October 7th of 2023. And when working on it, we've been met with resistance, fear, skepticism, and sometimes even complete paralysis. People say that they want peace, but when you drill down, many admit that they actually don't know enough to engage. Some are anchored to what they think they know. They're not open to recognizing how different versions of history, politics, and non-neutral media have shaped their views. Real dialog, in our opinion, requires both learning and unlearning. That's why we created Peaced Off! It's a film and conversation series, born out of frustration and heartbreak and, the urgent, persistent desire for peace. The title reflects the anger many of us feel right now, but it also reclaims a focus on a way forward. When you cut through the noise, those who genuinely seek a peaceful solution often have more in common than they realize. Peaced Off! embraces all perspectives and faiths. It invites people to share their stories, truthful information, sit with the discomfort, listen to one another's beliefs, and examine how language and media shape our understanding of the conflict. We're starting off with a few podcast episodes, and we plan to expand to a virtual film and conversation event series, and hopefully, a live in-person event, as well.
Our mission is simple, but vital:to foster empathy, promote honest dialog, get past polarization, and begin building common ground. One story at a time. Thank you for being here.
