Physiological tests are essential because they provide objective confirmation of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and ensure that symptoms are actually driven by reflux rather than functional disorders. These tests—specifically 24-hour pH monitoring and esophageal manometry—are used to quantify acid exposure, link symptoms to reflux events, and rule out major motility disorders that would make surgery risky or ineffective.
