EP 24 The modern education system is crumbling under the weight of contradictory approaches and eroding standards. From El Salvador's strict military-style reforms to Nova Scotia's complete elimination of high school exams, we're witnessing educational experiments that could have profound consequences for future generations.

A veteran teacher shared the shocking reality of today's classroom: students excused from class because a teacher's voice is "triggering," others permitted to destroy property while forcing classmates to watch, and critical thinking instruction abandoned. When students can opt out of assignments with a simple form and never experience an exam before university, how can we expect them to develop the resilience and skills needed for future success?

The consequences of educational coddling become painfully apparent when students reach university or the workplace. Those who coast through high school with inflated grades and minimal effort face a harsh awakening when confronted with the demands of higher education. Without developing proper study habits, time management, and critical thinking, these students often struggle or drop out entirely.

Beyond education, we dive into the fascinating world of professional sports, highlighting the exceptional yet overlooked performance of WNBA star Paige Bueckers, who shot an incredible 17-for-21 for 44 points—a feat that would dominate headlines if performed by certain other players. This disparity in media coverage reveals broader questions about recognition, attention, and what we choose to celebrate in sports.

Whether discussing Derrick Rose's jersey retirement, the changing physiques of aging NBA stars, or the mind-boggling salaries approaching $1 million per game, our wide-ranging conversation examines how sports, like education, reflect our evolving cultural values. Listen now to join our honest, unfiltered exploration of these pivotal institutions and what they reveal about our society's direction.

Basketball Talk: Paige Bueckers' Shooting

Speaker 2

I haven't seen any dildos on the court recently, not recently, no.

Speaker 1

But even that like that's you know. But anyway, what Paige did the other day blew my mind Like eight, 17 for 21,. Man, like that's a, that's pretty crazy. Yeah, if you played basketball like that is not easy to do.

Speaker 2

And it doesn't even matter what level. Yeah, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, Even if you're gonna watch me smash the fuck out of this room. This is what we're working with. I don't know um. I saw this weird thing also, Mike, in the news with El Salvador. Now people don't know much about El Salvador, but they're trying to clean it up a little bit. Apparently, there's some issues, so what they're starting with is a school system. So no more crazy haircuts. Military style haircuts Dress code.

Speaker 1

No.

Speaker 2

Yeah, whatever that is, maybe pants, I don't know. El Salvador is bloody hot, yeah, right. And then also they want students to start using formal greetings for adults instead of remember just a minute ago hey brah.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Right, your, your nephew calls your brother bro or something.

Speaker 1

What does he call him? I think it's just bro, bro hey bro, I'm your dad.

Speaker 2

You little prick like yeah, I'm not his dad. Well, my possibility, but yeah, probably not yeah, but yeah, so yeah, okay, what do you think of that?

El Salvador's Education Reform

Speaker 1

what do you think of them trying to straighten up the school systems, because I'm going to go somewhere with this okay, I to me, I don't know, I've never even given any thought I mean, I go to school oh no, I did, but I think you know it's uh, it's not the same it's not, but I think you know, once you start imposing too many things on on kids, then it's, it's going to actually have the word oh yeah, negative effect, it's not going to be a positive effect. So but again, I haven't, can't tell you a lick about the education, educational system in el salvador man so I don't know.

Speaker 2

But so whatever it is, I mean they're starting young, I guess right get them to respect people. But I like the formal greetings to like parents and older folks or whatever you know show some respect a little bit Well again, I don't know.

Speaker 1

I mean, when we went to school, it was like you know today, sir, hello, mr So-and-so.

Speaker 2

It's not the same anymore. Oh no, oh God, no, everybody I heard. Okay, I'll give you this story. So I was on the phone with Shane talks. So he goes. I got this girl in my class that won't come to my class anymore because she has a problem. I go. Oh, I said, is she, you know?

Speaker 2

okay, and he goes no no, no, she doesn't like my voice. I said what he goes. Apparently my voice annoys her and she told her mom. And her mom wrote a note says my daughter can't come to class anymore. Your voice triggers her I go yeah yeah, yeah. So I said your voice is fine, right, he goes, yeah, 100 he goes. I've never had this in my life he goes. This is what we're working on.

Speaker 1

This is crazy people like this yeah, right, and I go.

Speaker 2

What I said where's the administration on this one, like when they step in and go come on, is this not?

Speaker 1

can I ask, is it somebody that's like on the spectrum or something like that, like so, nope, an absolute normal child, okay, well as normal, as normal can be whatever normal is yeah, right, yeah, he said not, not, not a bad kid, not at all, doesn't cause problems, but he was a little bit shocked. That was going to be my next question. Was there, was there issues there somewhere? No, no, no, that's weird then okay, so that's one story.

Speaker 2

so then he told me this story, get ready. This is the one that I told Claudia in the kitchen.

Speaker 1

I didn't like. I mean, there's all kinds of teachers I go back with and just pick something about them.

Teacher Stories: Voice Triggers

Speaker 2

I know you can just pick shit now, right, that's the problem with this whole thing, right, and you have to agree what? Okay, well, I might just go back in and start substitute teaching Mike, so somebody can and I can sue. And then I'm good, sure, right, so, yeah, so, all you little idiots bring it, because I got a really good lawyer, right? So, basically. And then he says this he goes.

Speaker 2

I had this kid in the class I hope I'm telling this story, right, shane? I apologize if it's a little bit off. He says I had this kid in the class that would start breaking stuff. So what's the right thing to do? I said well, you take him out of the room where you get a kid to go down and get the vice principal, and you know you don't touch me. He goes, oh yeah, you would think that'd be the way to go, right? I go, uh, what he goes? No, no, he goes. You have to get the 28 other kids out of the room and let him smash everything, cause he has to get that out of his system. And then Shane said this the kid says you guys aren't going anywhere. You're going to watch me smash the fuck out of this room. This is what we're working with. And I didn't get an answer to that. I just went okay, shader what? And then he goes six years, four hours three minutes to retirement. He knew the exact number. I think he has it on a countdown.

Speaker 1

I've told you this story before, like, mom and dad were both teachers, but there was one teacher not going to say his name but no, mr smith, on the first day of school every year. He would throw out the number, or whatever, whatever, however many days, days oh right, you told me this story.

Speaker 2

And then every day he would count down by one what are you doing, sir?

Speaker 1

he's like this.

Speaker 2

Many more days until summer again this guy does not want to work.

Speaker 1

He was just those those last few years, man, he just he couldn't retire and he couldn't wait to retire. So it was like what are we doing today, sir? I don't feel like doing anything, so we're going to watch Gladiator, and so that's what it would be.

Speaker 2

Okay, as the education system Could have picked a worse one, at least the boys were abs.

Speaker 1

No, but he was a good teacher, but it was just when he didn't feel like it. That was what you got.

Speaker 2

Well, here's the thing, though. This is what I want to tell you, because I know a lot of people. I know a lot of teachers, I know a lot of clowns, I know a lot of idiots, and I know a lot of good people. Shane's one of the top dogs. Oh yeah, shane's really good at his job. Mike, okay, who does that? So good on you, shane. That's why. That's why we liked you, because you're one of us.

Speaker 1

When dad was uh, I remember he probably can't do this nowadays either, I guess but when dad was teaching and if somebody was disruptive in the class, he'd just be like listen, if you don't want to be here, that's your choice.

Speaker 2

You know you're old enough now to be taught high school.

Speaker 1

No-transcript.

Speaker 2

And so if you didn't want to be in this class, he didn't care.

Speaker 1

It's up to you if you're going to pass or fail.

Speaker 2

Right, you want, you want to you're not going to just go, but you can't fail anymore, See.

"Smash the Room" Classroom Incident

Speaker 1

But that's the in, then. You're not going to get rewarded for the lack of effort or whatever else.

Speaker 2

Okay, it gets better. Get ready. I'm just shocked at what he told me.

Speaker 1

Are you trying to pump yourself up for going back this other day?

Speaker 2

I'm not going back. Then I thought I was just going to go back so I could help the world, but I don't think it's going to help anybody Pass on my knowledge.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I don think so right so right, sure you know, yeah, yeah anyway, yeah, so uh, I've applied for full-time positions in other avenues, but that's beside the point, so he said this if a student does not want to do an assignment, no problem, you can fill out a form and pass it in and say I'm not, I can't or I won't or I refuse, and that goes right up to university sir. Then I found out there are no more exams in Nova Scotia for high school.

Speaker 2

So I don't know about you, mike, but you went to university. And what happens in university, mike? At the midterm and semester, you write a three-hour exam. So you're telling me, none of these kids are going to write an exam all the way to grade 12. If you choose to go to university, if you can get in, well, everybody gets in now, because everybody gets 90s, but now you're going to write a three-hour exam. So what's going to happen, mike?

Speaker 1

Well, how can you get 90s? If you're not being, what are you being graded on?

Speaker 2

then, oh, probably if you're trans or this or that, I don't even know.

Speaker 1

Yeah, not because I don't like trans people.

Speaker 2

I'm just saying it's so crazy. Now I don't know how this system works.

Speaker 1

You get graded on just showing up to class now.

Speaker 2

You might have to write. I would have failed. You have to write reports on things.

Speaker 1

Listen, it's been a long time since I've been in school and it's again.

Speaker 2

not having kids is not something I'm hearing from the teacher friends that I have. That's yeah okay. But yeah, I mean, and the first thing I said is well, how does that help anybody? Then they go. Well, they don't teach spelling and they don't teach grammar or cursive writing. Why? Oh, because it corrects it on your phone.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

So when I talked to the kid me, good English, huh, I, can you know, did well in high school, because it's easy Because it's easy, right, but I didn't build great habits.

Speaker 1

Then I got to university and you know those people that built those great habits through high school were like killing it at university. And I mean I still did well, but again it was hard for me. I found university a lot harder for me because I wasn't prepared for it. So once I actually figured out, you know how to do it, where, where to you know where to spend my time, when to fit those things in Cause. You know also when you're on university. You're 18, 19, 20 years old and you're in things going on.

Education System Problems

Speaker 2

There's a lot going on, and so yeah, but live a note in your own, you do learn a lot more. Yeah, 100%, yeah.

Speaker 1

So anyway, back to the point, I guess, is it's not, you're right, it's not going to help them how does it help the world, making everything so easy? Unless university is going the same thing. Well, it is apparently. That's what I hear.

Speaker 2

Yeah, just giving degrees, right, you show up and here you go. Yeah, I mean, you know, and these people are taking degrees, agrees, everybody's talking, and then they get out and there's no jobs, yeah, for what they want? Well, you need to be a specialist. That's what you have to do nowadays. Right, be a specialist, something people are going to want after you. But, yeah, this whole uh, I don't, I don't get it. Oh well, how we, how is it okay to make society stupid? Right, like that just makes a burden on everybody.

Speaker 1

We talked about this before we can talk about this forever. Um, one of the things I'm interested to see, because I know when it was happening at the time, was when the pandemic hit and you know they reacted everybody stayed home oh yeah, they had.

Speaker 2

You know everything everybody's behind, and so what?

Speaker 1

did that do? Because at the time I remember them saying I was going to set global education back by, you know, a year or two years, whatever oh, I've I read it yeah, oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

Oh yeah, I read the study. So what is it then? They're like three years behind especially the young kids.

Speaker 1

Are they seeing that now, do you know? Yeah, they are Okay Interesting, yeah.

Speaker 2

Now I also saw where I was too is like there was like it was like good, bad, good again, like you, like you could see the covid kids. It was obvious, like really, oh yeah, it was clear, right, because I'm teaching older kids too, so you could see, right. And then the next group that came, like because I was there for so long, the next group that came up. I'm like you guys are all switched on. Yeah, we were too young to remember covid. Nobody gave a shit like oh okay, so you didn't have that depends on the age.

Speaker 1

That's what I'm saying. It wasn't young, young.

Speaker 2

It was like there was like there's numbers.

Speaker 1

Yeah, because also, aside from the educational side of things, it's also the socializing.

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah, 100 development, and that's the worst thing. That's why people wear masks for no reason because they feel safe behind it, right nowadays. Yeah, so remember, you were talking about like being easy in in high school. I'm not going to rat him out, but I'll say this guy, sean, I know this guy, sean, and I didn't go to high school with with him. He went to high school with my brother, but sean at high school, 95, 98, 97, but just smart, real smart, yeah, but when he got to uni he couldn't do that, yeah, and he ended up dropping out. Yeah, right, yeah, so because, but he actually went back as an engineer. Now, good for him, but yeah, um, he, that's one thing. I was just thinking, well, if you're just coasting through, really coasting, and then you get to uni, guy, I, I'm going to coast and go. Like, your GPA is like zero point, whatever you know.

Speaker 1

Yeah, if you could, if you were really good at memorizing, like through high school cause, you know yeah, that's not learning Everything is multiple choice. You just memorize everything You're like I remember Boom, and then you get, and then you don't, you don't, you don't understand the concepts or how to critically think or anything like that.

Speaker 2

Oh, and Shane said, by the way, critical thinking is gone in high school. Gone Really, yep. He says you can't ask them anything.

Speaker 1

Well see, that's interesting. You say that, though, because when I sit down and talk to my nephew, I don't find that at all.

Speaker 2

Like I mean, you know he'll parrot.

Speaker 1

But I'll be honest with you, they'll parrot other people's like kind of points of view. But that's you know, when you're young, of course, like you know, like you can't have your own, you're gonna build your own point of view by actually like first, kind of like finding what you agree with, where you kind of align with whatever right, and and so you know, I had some great conversations with well, he seems pretty sharp, though I'll be honest with you, like when we're at the soccer game with, he seems pretty sharp.

Speaker 1

He is right. So sean raised him right. You know both, yeah, no, both smart kids, oh yeah.

Speaker 2

I'm not knocking Olivia.

Speaker 1

I wasn't going to say her name but, oh, sorry, I was trying to think of her name and I was like, oh, I'm going to say it because I remembered it.

Speaker 2

Yeah, right, yeah. So, but got another joke for you all right, got another joke for you. You're gonna like it. You're gonna hate it me.

Speaker 1

I don't know more for the people out there, isn't it?

Speaker 2

yeah, I don't know if I can say this one, it was uh it was? It was said by uh, super dave osborne on a panel. Oh jesus, super dave super dave osborne. Uh, oh, my god I'll try to clean it up a little bit yeah, god, it wasn't sorry. Like go ahead what happened with super dave?

Speaker 1

because I didn't he have like a bit of a number of like a public falling out as well did he well?

Speaker 2

I don't know.

Speaker 1

I don't know I have to go back and look. I thought he was another one of these older, older guys get caught on a hot mic or something saying stuff he shouldn't have been saying.

Speaker 2

I have to go back.

Speaker 1

I could be wrong if I'm wrong, sorry, super dave, but if I'm right, your real name is if I'm right, I have to go find out what it was.

Speaker 2

Well, he was just on a panel, yeah, and I don't know what it was for. It might have been for a movie or something, but I wasn't focused on the panel. I was focused on him because, you know, this girl was just and he just in the middle, he just cuts her off and goes. You know, I want to hear a joke, like to the audience.

Speaker 2

And they're like, and then you hear, oh, kid walks in on his uh, I'm cleaning up a little bit, okay the young kid walks in on him and, uh, his dad and his mom having sexual relations, right, yeah, and he's all freaked out. And the dad's like, don't worry about it, I'll come explain it to you in 20 minutes, just go. It's fine, don't worry, don't get all worked up. Yeah, so the kid leaves. So 20 minutes later, I guess dad's finished, you know good on dad, so he comes over good on dad, yeah, 18 minutes longer than he, so leave my watch on that would be yeah, anyway we're kidding.

Speaker 2

I have blue pills so I do not use those anymore. Anyway, the father goes and knocks on the kid's door. He opens up the kid's door. The kid's screwing his grandmother, his own grandmother and the kid looks his dad's right in the face.

Speaker 2

Go, it's not funny when somebody's fucking your mom, is it? This is what super Dave told in the panel in front of all these people like I watched it, oh my god, okay, listen, it was way worse, I bet like I cleaned it up it was way worse, and that's the best I could do, right. It's brutal, but what are you going to do? Right, you got anything else for the team today.

Speaker 1

Yeah, a couple of things I wanted to talk about.

Speaker 2

All right, I know you did. Yeah, let's go to basketball. First one is we were way, a lot of stuff today because we had a couple of ideas we were chatting about, nothing written down, but we went sideways. Yeah well, it's all right. That's what we do. It's not you know, wait until basketball comes a bit more.

Speaker 1

We try to be like what are we going to talk about today? But that's about as far as we can go.

Speaker 2

Remember you know brains A, b, tuesday Mars had old ADHD or whatever it is yeah, GMB.

Speaker 1

So the big thing I wanted to talk about was so they had announced a date for Derrick Rose's jersey retirement.

Derrick Rose Jersey Retirement

Speaker 2

Number one will never be worn again. So yeah For the school for the blind, yeah, that's right he's.

Speaker 1

I can't remember when it was that they announced it. I don't know if it was the end of last season.

Speaker 2

Whatever it was, it's a big deal. Man, he was pretty emotional about it. Dude, it's a big deal and you know.

Speaker 1

So that's going to be pretty cool to see him get his jersey retired, because if you don't know about Derrick Rose, if you came in to watch the basketball later. This guy was amazing, the best of the MVP ever, Youngest yeah, and you know, in all fairness to D Rose at the time, you had a great season that year. I still think LeBron probably should have been MVP that season.

Speaker 2

I agree 100%.

Speaker 1

We're LeBron fans, but we know basketball, we know who should win, but Derrick Rose had a great year that year. Anyway, horrible leg injury.

Speaker 2

Stupid LeBron.

Speaker 1

That guy's career.

Speaker 2

So when we talk about, comparisons. I always worry that John Morant's going to go the same way, which is probably why he doesn't do the Duncan contest.

Speaker 1

Same kind of explosiveness that D Rose had. And D Rose could just score from anywhere. Man, that boy could play so fast. Good on you, derrick Rose. Props to you for that, because that's a huge honor and well-deserved. You had a great career in Chicago there. It was good teams back then, those Bulls teams. They gave those Miami Heat some runs for their money. Back then too, they had Derrick Rose was their star.

Speaker 2

They had Noah, yes, and he vanished from the league yeah.

Speaker 1

Yeah, he played, he bounced around.

Speaker 2

He's in New York. That was that shot. Yeah, yeah, whatever that was, but he was, you know back, I think you know, as the league changed. Yeah, it just wasn't for him. That happened to some guys Some of those guys.

Speaker 1

Yeah, there's still guys like Steve Adams, like we've talked about.

Speaker 2

They still find a place in the league, still find a place.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so that was the first thing. Props to retire a jersey right?

Speaker 2

Well, he would have been, Because he was so injured. For like two he would have been at least six to eight years, probably at Chicago. I'm thinking like 10 in my mind is the number. But okay, he still had a long, he still. Yeah, he did well he became.

Speaker 1

He had some, you know, played God. It was near the end there. He had like a 50-point game or whatever when he was with Minnesota.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's right. Remember that one. He was like all emotional. Yeah, he would have been. Yeah, where'd that come from?

Speaker 1

Yeah, well, because it's still the hard part for those guys that get injured like that and just never bounce back, is when you do have games like that. It's like man, it's like golf.

Speaker 2

When you see if you know when you take up, when you take up golf, you'll see like golf is one of those sports where it's a.

Speaker 1

You know, every once in a while you'll hit that good shot. You'll be like, see, I can do this, and it keeps you going. Man, it's a. Next summer You'll see that look at this shot it's great dropping the ball out of his pocket. Yeah, yeah, learn from the best. That's right. Um, that's right. And then the other thing I was going to talk about was uh yeah, this is big, this is, then.

Speaker 2

This is the one that I wanted to talk about, because I was mentioning this to you earlier I don't like it.

WNBA Coverage Inequality

Speaker 1

Uh, so I'll start with page beckers. Uh, you know, just broke the scoring record for a rookie at 44 points but it wasn't the scoring record it was she shot 17 for 21,. Man, that is crazy. And she's not a big man. She's not parked in the paint.

Speaker 2

Nope, she is not a big.

Speaker 1

Just you know she is out there getting the tack, and at angles.

Speaker 2

Six for six from the free throw line. Yeah, four for four from the trees.

Speaker 1

Didn't miss a three so Incredible, which is incredible, right, incredible for anybody.

Speaker 2

For anybody, what level, what color, what race, what man woman, sure I don't care, yeah, but but it wasn't. It barely got any coverage. No, coverage.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I mean, it was talked about okay, she lost the game, fine they lost. I don't care, kelsey plum hit a, hit a shot at the buzzer to win yep.

Speaker 2

But I'll say it right now, if cooper flag exactly, it's 44 points and has those stats. We will see him for a month on everything.

Speaker 1

That's the best I've ever seen. Nobody's ever going to give this one some props, but in fairness though, if Caitlin Clark would have done that, it would have been top stories everywhere. They would have been talking about who's Caitlin?

Speaker 2

Clark. All right, we know who Caitlin Clark is.

Speaker 1

So the point to this is that there's like listen, kaitlyn Clark is amazing.

Speaker 2

What she's doing for the league. What she's doing for the league, yeah, and Nike, sure.

Speaker 1

But the attention is there, and so it's up to the media to make sure that coverage is consistent for the other players as well, because what Paige just did, the other day.

Speaker 2

We're blaming the media is what we're doing, Ridiculously good man.

Speaker 1

We're blaming the media Talk about it, man, because Paige is actually a fantastic player. The WNBA is full of really really good players.

Speaker 2

Oh, really good players.

Speaker 1

And you know you can't make your argument that, oh you know, with the Angel Reese and Kaitlyn Carr thing it's just like oh, they're miles apart as far as skill level, da-da-da-da. But when you get a player that does do something, talk about it, man. Give it the coverage that it deserves, right.

Speaker 2

Keep that momentum going. It's the last time you've seen that, when you've never seen it.

Speaker 1

Ever Listen. Lebron gets ridiculous coverage in the NBA. We've talked about this before. I like LeBron, I'm a LeBron guy. I want him to retire so that we can start seeing other guys get that. The new guys Get that spotlight right.

Speaker 2

LeBron, you know we talked about.

Speaker 1

Uh, did he just say recently. Well, I so I told you I don't know much about this. I just saw some things showing up that it said something about or talking off camera. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I don't know enough about that one to really say it, cause I, I I don't know if it's true.

Speaker 2

That's the thing, is that?

Speaker 1

going that one I said I didn't like when he was on that talk show or his podcast or his show there. Because of this, whatever the barbershop or whatever, it's called, but anyway the shop, I think it's called. You know what it is he said because that one right there made me the goat that I didn't like. I didn't like having to put yourself up.

Speaker 2

You can't say that, don't put yourself up. You just can't say that, but whatever. You youngins.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Michael Jordan would never say I'm the GOAT.

Speaker 1

Whenever he was asked about it, he always he would always say he would always say I wouldn't want to. Well, I mean I shouldn't say always say what I remember him saying.

Speaker 2

Behind closed doors, off camera, with no microphone. He probably said that Nobody's better than me.

Speaker 1

I took that personal.

Speaker 2

You know, but that's oh yeah.

Speaker 1

You and everybody else that he was playing against, but he never said I'm the best to ever do it, because he said I never want to disrespect the other generation that came before me and paved the way. He said I never played against them. Different generations it's unfair comparison.

Speaker 2

Think of how much he didn't get paid for what he was. He was like we talked about this before. He was not even until those last few years that he played, he wasn't even the top paid player in the league.

Speaker 1

Crazy, yeah, crazy Makes no sense. But back to the point that LeBron gets ridiculous amounts of coverage but they still give coverage to other players in the league. Steph still gets coverage, KD still gets coverage, James Harden, Jason Tatum, whatever they all still get coverage. Wnba it's not just Caitlin man, and so I get why other players get frustrated with this. Yeah, she is great and she's doing a lot for the league. Attendance records they broke attendance records already this year.

Speaker 2

I haven't seen any dildos on the court recently. Not recently, no, not recently.

Speaker 1

But even that, like that's you know. But anyway, what Paige did the other day blew my mind Like 17 for 21,. Man, like that's a to do.

Speaker 2

And it doesn't even matter what level, it doesn't matter Even if you're playing a little Timbits basket, it doesn't matter. It is insane what she did.

Speaker 1

It's insane what she did and I should be talking about it more ESPN, espn.

Speaker 2

Why are you not covering this one? What is wrong with you people? You're all about equality and equity and sports and all of that. This is your chance to really push the WNBA Well like I said, they're covering it.

Speaker 1

It's just that if it was Caitlyn, it would have been the top story on there, because of the ridiculousness of it and because it wasn't Caitlyn Bias agendas.

Speaker 2

It was just, it was.

Speaker 1

You know, probably you know how you know back in the when you used on like page six or something. We never even saw it Right Like that's. That's what it felt like, and I got upset about that Cause. I thought that you know she deserved her, she deserved the attention on that one Cause. That was ridiculous. So I know we're rambling about it, but is it cause she's straight? Yeah?

Speaker 2

Who Caitlin no Paige oh.

Speaker 1

I mean could be, I don't know.

Speaker 2

We're not shooting down lesbian or gay, that's not the point. But we do know that that league is dominated by a certain Well, that is one of the arguments that they made about Caitlin.

Speaker 1

It's not me arguing Look around, Reed that she's a white, straight woman.

Speaker 2

She's white, I don't see color, mostly because I'm blind. Yes, straight, she's white, right. So I don't see color.

Speaker 1

Okay, mostly because I'm blind, yes, um, but that you know that was. That's one of the things they keep saying is that because she's white, she's a straight woman. That's why she's getting the media coverage, when there's been all kinds of other great players that have come before and nobody's shitting on them. There's just, it's just right time, right place sure this is.

Speaker 2

They've decided that this is her game's different?

Speaker 1

she plays more like a steph curry, which is more of the style of play.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's what they're like.

Speaker 1

That's what people like go watch, if you've never seen her play go watch some of her highlights. She's ridiculous she needs more money she can do a lot of the same things that caitlin can she have a shoe deal I'm assuming she, if she doesn't, she doesn't, she does now yeah for sure.

Speaker 2

So good on you. That's a way to make your own money. Yeah yeah, this NIL right.

Speaker 1

Well, the NIL is like the deals that these university players can make, right, right.

Speaker 2

Yeah, so make your money.

Speaker 1

Yeah, make your money.

Speaker 2

Think of all the money they made off their jerseys before that ever came in. Eh, oh, ridiculous. You remember like there'd be video games out with the guys' names?

Speaker 1

on the jerseys. They weren't getting a cent right. Nothing, absolutely nothing. Well, we talked about it. I think maybe we didn't have talked about it before but, like college football, the amount of money that those college football programs get and those players weren't getting those training facilities that they have at some of those better than. Nfl training facilities.

Speaker 2

Well, you get a hundred thousand people to a to a college football game. You don't get that to a real NFL game.

Speaker 1

When we went down to visit the in-laws in North Carolina, this was years ago.

Speaker 2

What a great place.

Speaker 1

They took me out to Chapel Hooks, I know.

Speaker 2

I'm a big Michael.

Speaker 1

Jordan guy, a big UNC fan.

Speaker 2

We get all the shirts.

Speaker 1

I went out to the football stadium there. I couldn't believe how big that was. That's like UNC is not like a top tier, Not a top school.

College Sports Money and Facilities

Speaker 2

You know football school, right, you know, go to Texas and check those ones out. I bet man, yeah, it'd be crazy. Penn State Michigan, yeah, Like, look at those, Like oof crazy.

Speaker 1

But I don't know Sports.

Speaker 2

these days there's big money in all sports.

Speaker 1

It's definitely different now, right? I think soccer's still top-paid players, right, oh I?

Speaker 2

mean, look at the people that are coming over playing in the Major League Soccer. We got our boy, messi, making people look stupid.

Speaker 1

But even overseas the amount of money they're making over there.

Speaker 2

Oh, here's what people don't know. Even when I was young, when I was playing high level, the money then was huge and don't know enough about soccer.

Speaker 1

I'm assuming they don't have caps on them, like the NBA has a salary cap.

Speaker 2

I don't follow that anymore. Yeah, so I don't know that. But listen, the money I saw thrown around there can't be any caps on anything, because baseball players get a lot too don't they. They sure do now. Yeah, they sure do now.

Speaker 1

All over the place, the NFL players will say I want that NBA money.

Speaker 2

Well, I just saw an NFL contract. I don't even know the dude, but basically it said this they're not hurting for money.

Speaker 1

I'm not saying that. Yeah, we know that.

Speaker 2

In his first three years in the league he made like $3.7 million or something. Now he makes out a game or whatever. Yeah. Yeah, okay, I know we've said this a couple of times now, but it just blows my mind that we're not far away from an NBA player making a million a game. Now what's it going to take to make that who Like?

Speaker 1

SGA. Well, it's just a matter of like with each year as that salary cap goes, as things change and the cap goes up or whatever.

Speaker 2

Yeah, but all these guys just signed their big ones right, so there's nobody left to get that.

Speaker 1

Sooner or later, like we got players now that are what signed for, like 60 million a year. Is that where we're at now?

Speaker 2

I guess I mean the starting rookie salary is 12 million or something.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so like it's, oh yeah.

Speaker 2

Used to be 900,000, by the way.

Speaker 1

Yeah, well, we talked about this a few episodes ago. Oh, come on, man.

Speaker 2

My memory is horrible today, man. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1

I don't know why my memory is so bad today, but anyway, point being is that you get your rookie contract. You make it through. Oh, it was Luka.

Speaker 2

Yes, why do we not know that? Because we were worried about how skinny he was. It was Luka. Because he couldn't get the Superman. Yeah, because again.

Speaker 1

But they wanted him gone. They did that Because, however many years you sign your rookie contract and you get your extension and you go like there's all those rules within the you know what was funny when you were saying in my mind, when you were saying who is it?

Speaker 2

I saw skinny Luka beside fat Luka and I was laughing in my head and I was like it's Luka and he's way thinner.

Speaker 1

He's way thinner. I saw somebody posted a picture of him at a gas station or whatever and they called him Riff Luca, but I don't know if he's Riff, he's just not he's just a thinner Larry Bird. Yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But I did see a picture the other day of Kawhi. He looks like he's smaller.

Speaker 2

Kawhi.

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah. So it'll be interesting to see if it's just if he actually is a little bit smaller.

Speaker 2

Yeah, because some angles make it.

Speaker 1

We talked about co-eye before.

Speaker 2

We still don't know what's wrong with him. We don't know what's wrong with him Still, to this day.

Speaker 1

Maybe he's slimmed down to see if that'll be easier on his legs. Oh, 100%.

Speaker 2

It would no matter what. Anybody who slims down is going to be easier on their knees. Of course it will be right.

Speaker 1

Ankles, whatever else. I think he's just a bit smaller now right?

Speaker 2

Well, if you just stop eating cheeseburgers, pasta and pizza and get on like a, here's the thing bro Sorry. Go ahead. What did you just say? Poor James Harden? Oh, fat James, because like I still see those.

Speaker 1

I still see pictures of James Harden.

Speaker 2

It's like you know like'm going to put a picture right here, right now, of LeBron James in retirement, because I have it on my phone.

Speaker 1

I'm going to show you what it looks like. Yeah, yeah, it's hilarious.

Speaker 2

He's about 400 pounds, yeah, and the jersey's tight, yeah.

Speaker 1

You know what? I don't see him actually letting himself.

Speaker 2

No, no man, I can't afford a washing machine, so I've got to wash my clothes and my hands. Then you get guys like Mike Bibby, mike Bibby.

Speaker 1

I don't see LeBron doing that, but you see some players TRT.

Speaker 2

A little more than TRT. I think big fella.

Speaker 1

It's got to be hard, though, carl.

Speaker 2

Malone, sorry, we're going to badmouth him again. Carl Malone bad mouth him again. But yeah, carmel fucking huge huge, ridiculous. Always was, always was, but not like this. Now, right, yeah, you know what I saw a picture of the other day came into my feet was, uh, wilk chamberlain on this side, big, or?

Speaker 1

not big show, uh, andre the giant and little tiny arnold sports and they're holding them up. Well, here, no, they weren't holding them. And this is one, if you look, there's one where he's like oh, this one, he's just standing. But here's what? No, they weren't holding him. Oh, there's one, if you look, there's one where he's like oh, this one, he's just standing.

Speaker 2

But here's what's funny when I looked at it I went, geez, that little guy's in pretty good shape. And then I went oh, it's Arnold at 6'2". Those guys are so fucking huge.

Speaker 1

It's ridiculous Makes no sense Like Chamberlain play, but he was. He got 100 points in a game, freak athleticism.

Speaker 2

And they wrote it on paper and he held it up. Yeah, yeah.

Pro Athletes' Salaries and Physical Changes

Speaker 2

Oh yeah, well, they still the things that I read that he could do, like run like a 4-3-40, like a 42 vertical inch, this kind of thing. If you haven't seen Wilt Chamberlain, there's videos, go watch. If I can find one, I'll put it here. There's not a lot of them, there's not a lot, but I know I can find one, I'll put it right here. I'll put a picture of it, sure. So 100 points is nuts and I bet he had probably 30 rebounds.

Speaker 1

Oh, I think it was one year where he averaged something like 40 points 50 rebounds, 40, 40, something crazy. He was way bigger than everybody, oh, way bigger than everybody else. But again he was like incredibly athletic.

Speaker 2

Stupid athletic for the size of him Doesn't make any sense. All right, yeah, so basketball there it is Now. Thanks for showing up once again with Mikey D, mikey D and Bobby D. See, I did it backwards again, I remember.

Speaker 1

mike halifax, sorry I know, I know, but I work in dark myth and dark myth's fine. I'm just gonna say that mike does work in dark.

Speaker 2

Speaker 1
