Cats Crash The Show While Politics Trips Over Itself
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Two kittens keep climbing the curtains while we try to make sense of a week that refuses to sit still. We open with a reported U.S. move in Venezuela and the familiar pull of oil, legitimacy, and geopolitics dressed up as security. The claims arrive fast—narco ties, infrastructure payback, “make it profitable again”—and we slow them down, asking who gets to declare a leader illegitimate and what intervention means when the prize is pipelines and refineries. It’s punchy, skeptical, and focused on the questions that outlast any headline.
Then the room goes quiet: a deadly club fire in Switzerland, likely sparked by bottle sparklers and accelerated by acoustic foam that shouldn’t have burned. We talk codes, inspections, and why small choices—materials, ceilings, exits—decide outcomes when seconds count. Context matters too: local drinking laws make the headlines more complicated than they look. From there we dive into fentanyl’s shadow over cocaine, a celebrity overdose, and why scare lines like “fentanyl in marijuana” demand proof. The weed economy shows its own weirdness—prices drifting down, bulk “deals” that aren’t deals, and gray-market shops that survive until someone phones it in.
Basketball brings heat and relief. Kawhi finds a new gear with back-to-back explosions, Philly weighs the Embiid-Maxey-Edgecombe equation, and Wembanyama keeps erasing layups from impossible angles. We push a simple thesis: offense sells jerseys, defense raises trophies. That means calling out soft spots—Luka’s effort on D, all-star voting fatigue, and the way playoff series hunt the weakest link. We gush over Jokic’s court vision, nod to Magic and Stockton, and wonder how the league balances highlight culture with habits that actually win.
If you want a conversation that can juggle global stakes, safety lessons, and jump shots without losing its sense of humor—or the kittens—press play. You Wood Think? Bobby and Mikey D
Kittens On Set, Banter Begins
SPEAKER_02Hey everybody, welcome back to You Would Think with Bob. Who the hell am I? Bobby D. There you go, Mikey D. Okay. The reason I pause there is because in front of me, which you can't see, but you might, are two little furry black things. And they are eight-week-old kittens named Logan and Nyx that uh our good friend Mike and his lovely wife have uh rescued from a terrible situation. Oh god, no. I know they were in a terrible situation. Oh no, no.
SPEAKER_00The people that the people that had them were really looking after them really well. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02Now we were trying to paint a story, but that's not true. Yeah, they're just they're awesome. So uh you're probably gonna see them in the shots sooner or later. You might be able to hear them right now. They're kicking around a little mice, mosey's, whatever.
SPEAKER_00But uh fantastic. Yes, our attention will be diverted some during this thing.
U.S. Move In Venezuela And Oil Claims
SPEAKER_02A little bit, and the tech guy's looking at them like he wants soup. No, but uh we're not doing that. No, all right. So uh anyway, the U.S. has uh went into Venezuela, sir. They did, and uh some Orange County fellow there says Uncle Donnie says uh they want the oil back.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, it was an interesting one, right? He said it's a security thing because he's anarcho terrorist and uh the Maduro guy's an archoterrorist, not Uncle Donnie. That's right. But that's we can see narco terrorists poses a threat.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so they got him on uh drug charges, and uh what's the other thing they got him on? Uh something else. Yeah, anyway, it doesn't matter. So yeah, I saw the grab, and he's like, hey man, yeah, he's pretty cool with it, seems to be. Yeah, but oh his wife, they got his wife too.
SPEAKER_00And I think a few other few others, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Isn't the old school like you know, you watch the movies, Mike, and you know, the wife always goes, I never knew. I didn't know what he was doing. How come this wife knows what he's doing? Yeah, like then she got in, she's like, oops, you know, uh plausible deniability. You should never ask. What do you do for a honey? I'm in construction.
SPEAKER_00Why do we have all this money? Yeah, yeah, I'm in sales. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, that's a horrible situation uh with that whole thing. So they're gonna go in, take the oil back, and uh Uncle Donnie says they're uh gonna get their money back for all the oil that they stole.
SPEAKER_00The U.S. is gonna they're gonna run the they're gonna run the country until uh until they get a new leader in place, so obviously somebody that's pro pro-American.
SPEAKER_02Now you know, Mike, I'm not very bright. I I did I did graduate top two-thirds of my grade sixth class. Right. But isn't what he did, isn't that war? Like, can you just go in and like oust a sitting president or of another country?
SPEAKER_00It's no, it's we do that, that's okay, right?
SPEAKER_02No problem.
SPEAKER_00Uh like I think we talked about that. It's uh Maduro was the illegitimate leader. He hasn't been recognized by anybody.
SPEAKER_02Right, because he said they said that he lost the election, but he said I didn't lose. Yeah. That sounds familiar, doesn't it? Yep.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Uncle Donnie. So anyway, so yeah, that's that's that. So uh whatever you crazies down there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I think he came out now and said that we're gonna recoup the American American oil companies went in and put all the infrastructure in place. Then the corrupt Venezuelan government got in there and um Wait a minute.
SPEAKER_02Is Maduro the guy that let out all the prisoners?
SPEAKER_00Uh well yeah, I've some there's some stuff. I mean, I was with the every okay, everybody out. There you go. Go to the U.S. I think that was the two things that they said they wanted them was because yeah, yeah, he just let everybody everybody out responsible for a lot of the drugs in the U.S. and then all the illegal immigrants that all these criminals that were left out. Anyway, this is what this is what they were saying. Good fella. And then I then I like I said, they this was the the premise of why they went in and got this guy, and fair enough, they got rid of an illegal, you know, uh leader that uh the democratic process down there did not work properly. They had their vote and then it didn't matter. And anyway, and uh but then he then and like you said, your buddy came out and said, by the way, all that money that our US oil companies invested into building this infrastructure and stuff, we're gonna get all this money back, and then we're gonna make it we're gonna make it profitable again for both the US and Venezuela.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so now the new term is make America profitable again. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Napa.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right, Napa. Okay, gotcha. Just keeps changing the acronyms, but whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, there's not really they can do because you know, Venezuela now the head guy's like, thanks, man. Well, this is well like the the new president of Venezuela's like, cool. We didn't want him anyway.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's that's what it'll be interesting. Hey, yeah. Thanks. Thanks, Trump. Yeah, handshake there. Yeah. Oh, two bags of money.
SPEAKER_02All good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Every now and then we'll put a picture up of me sitting in prison.
unknownYeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
Legitimacy, Coups, And “Profitable Again”
SPEAKER_02Yeah, him and Epstein. Yeah, that's right. Anyway. All right. Well, we'll let that one go. Dumpster fire.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. We'll see how it plays out. It just happened, so we'll see how it plays out.
SPEAKER_02We'll see how it plays out. That'd be interesting. But yeah, we don't we don't do politics much. So we had to talk about that because it's just foolish. It's craziness, yeah. But uh sad news uh in uh was it Sweden or Switzerland, Mike?
SPEAKER_00Switzerland. Switzerland. Yep.
SPEAKER_02Bar fire, people had some uh sparklers, lit the roof or something, and uh a lot of people passed away. Yeah, I think they said 40 people, most of them 116 injured, most of them under 18. Okay, now I know people you're thinking, oh well, what are they doing on a bar? If you don't know their law, the law is in Switzerland, 16. You're allowed to drink at 16 years old. So there were people in there. However, we did read it, there was a 14-year-old.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, said one of the said one of the victims was a 14-year-old.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so hang on.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_02Watch a rum. Yep. Cats into the rum.
SPEAKER_01All right, guys.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, so Switzerland, that horrible, horrible situation. Now they said uh involuntary manslaughter in arson or something crazy. Like on they said something about the the foam, the acoustic foam wasn't properly, uh wasn't fire retardant or fireproof or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Remember similar to that Hong Kong fire, right? The building materials were not the proper materials. So this is what they don't know. I mean, again, this is it's early, right? So we don't know for sure. We just read what we read. What they're thinking, right? It's uh I guess I told you there was a there's a video out of uh a young woman sitting on the shoulders of a man and they have the champagne bottles with the sparklers in them, and they're pretty close to the ceiling. And I think that's what started it, right? Based on the based on the videos they've seen. So it went out fast.
SPEAKER_02So that stuff, yeah. Holy smokes, right? Yeah, so but anyway. I mean nobody wants to see anybody pass away, but you know, somebody's gonna get sued. Right for sure. Like some some somebody's gonna get sued.
SPEAKER_00Oh, if it's negligence, right? Like, yeah, man. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Happens every time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right. But uh World Juniors, listen. We're doing all right. Oh yeah. We're made to the to the to the semifinals.
SPEAKER_00Undefeated.
SPEAKER_02Undefeated. We scored a bunch of goals more than we ever scored before. And uh goaltenders are playing good. So uh we got Sweden and Finland, and then Canada, and how do you say that?
SPEAKER_00Checkia.
SPEAKER_02Chechia. Check Chechia.
SPEAKER_00Checkia or Chechia, Czechia.
SPEAKER_02Checkia or Chechia, whatever it is. Check, yeah. Yeah, I but the better game is probably gonna be the Finland-Sweden game, but you know, regardless, we'll see.
SPEAKER_00Uh we play so we played Czechia already and beat them.
SPEAKER_02Yes. 7-5.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so it was a close game, I think. The the Too many goals next. Who did we pay Slovakia in this in the the quarters and beat them 7-1 or something? Yeah, they horrible. And Sweden beat the US, which was the US was, I think the I thought the favorites again coming in, but yeah, they're gone. Yeah, they're gone. They're gone. Yeah, they won last one, so they're not gonna they're not even gonna medal this year. So that's a disappointing uh tournament for the US, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_02That's right, but it's Canada's time.
SPEAKER_00I think the US beat I think Finland beat them. Was it Finland that beat them or Sweden?
SPEAKER_02I didn't watch the game. All I heard was they lost. I'm like, cool.
SPEAKER_00Oh god, I can't remember who it was Finland. I don't remember it. I think it was Finland because I think Finland they beat Finland in the finals of the last worlds, and then so Finland beat Finland.
SPEAKER_02Probably Finland is what I'm gonna guess, but uh we could be wrong.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02If we're wrong, tell us. We don't mind.
SPEAKER_00It's either Finland or Sweden, one of them. Right. Yeah, either way.
Swiss Club Fire And Safety Failures
SPEAKER_02You can see we watch it, but not well, they you know, the the games are long. You know, I don't got a lot of time to watch the full games. I like watching highlights of stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's it. Yep.
SPEAKER_02What else we got for news? I'm watching your cats just like you are, it's a little distressing.
SPEAKER_00That's it's a problem. It is a problem. We apologize, folks. Our our our attention span keeps going over to watch what they're doing.
SPEAKER_02It's this short and they're this big, so it's hard to tell, right? Okay. So uh there was another thing I I saw. I I don't know the lady uh personally. I didn't even know she was an actress, really. Tommy Lee Jones' daughter.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So they had some demons, you know.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Dealing with uh habits of uh ill repute, basically cocaine. She OD'd and passed away in New Year's Eve. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I saw I saw that she had passed on the in a hotel somewhere, right? That's all I saw, but I didn't see what people overdosing, man.
SPEAKER_02Like, you know. Yeah. Well, here's the other thing, too. It's coke. Might have been fentanyl that killed her. We don't know yet. You don't know yet. Because that's what's going on about this, right? Actually, I don't follow these two idiots, but have you ever heard of these island boys?
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02Okay, there's these two ding-dongs, they're tattooed from head to toe. They made it big on TikTok being idiots. Okay, and uh one of them just got arrested somewhere. He used his credit card and they checked that it had residue of fentanyl on it. Oh no. Just like, how dumb are you? But anyway, yeah. If you saw these two, it fits the profile for both. Oh, yeah, they're just basically this big around. They're basically dick and ribs. What was it back in the tattoos?
SPEAKER_00You had the you rolled up the dollar bill and movies, or a hundred dollar bill, or the hundred dollar bill, sure. I re Not everybody was carrying around a hundred dollar bill.
SPEAKER_02Still aren't. Yeah. I I remember reading one time, it said in the US, not in Canada, but it said something about like 50% of all$100 bills have cocaine residue on them, or something like what? How many people are doing cocaine?
SPEAKER_00I suppose Coke was the considered the rich man drug or whatever back in the 80s.
SPEAKER_02But you know what's funny though, cocaine's never gone up in price.
SPEAKER_00Oh, really?
SPEAKER_02How okay. You're looking at both of us going, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we know people who know people that know people that are criminals. Okay, so the that's one thing. Like if you look at the world, go, everything's gone up, cocaine has not. Explain that. And explain this. How is marijuana going down in price now at the LLCs? Everybody's telling me. Supply versus demand. There you go. I guess. I don't know. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So you know, it is what it is. There's a lot of a lot of growers out there now, right? I mean, there always was, I guess, but it was never as easy, never as easy, it wasn't as as accessible as it is.
SPEAKER_02Well, you can take a diploma at uh Noble Scotia Community College.
SPEAKER_00You remember when they first announced that they were gonna go down this road, you were considering uh you looked into the options of I was considering bringing you in as a partner.
SPEAKER_02We were gonna own a distributor.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then they went, no, you guys can't make money. We're gonna do it all for ourselves. Thanks, Mr. Trudeau.
SPEAKER_00Because remember, it was it was quite the process to get approved, I thought, right?
SPEAKER_02It was, but we we we both could have got approved because we're not criminals. We had that everything would have lined up. And then, nope. Right. But here's the thing there's still people that have dispensaries around Halifax that are not Nova Scotia Liquor Commission. No, you know what I heard? They get raided. This is true, though. No, this is real. The cops told me this. If nobody calls them, they will leave them alone. So some asshole has to call and go, hey, on Blower Street, there's a and the cops, oh, for Christ's sake. Yeah. And they go down and go, Donnie, we gotta bust you.
Fentanyl, Overdoses, And Celebrity Tragedy
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, there's a there was a dispensary down just off close to where Pete's fruitique was. Uh Pete's Fruitique. Oh, yeah, downtown. Yeah, there was off one of those side roads and there was a dispensary there, and it got raided a few times, but it was always because somebody called up and complained about it.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know who it was? It's one of those white Karen's that were at Pete's Fruitique buying uh some exotic vegetable they couldn't find anywhere else for$45 a pound. Yeah. And they walked by and go, I don't think that's right. Having marijuana at that price. I know I'm gonna call the police. Yeah, thanks, Karen. You're screwing all the young people that are down there that can't afford prices. When I say young people, 19 and over, of course. Of course, right?
SPEAKER_00But I mean Yeah, well, I think it's eleven fifty per gram at the NSLC. I think is that what that's what it is? I think so. Is that there's no plus tax? Uh is that taxes in? Oh, I don't know. I can't remember. I'm assuming it's the taxes in, maybe. I don't know. Is that a good price? I guess it'd be ten dollars plus tax, is what it would be if the tax is in, right? Um, but anyway, regardless, it's like I think that the big thing there is that it's eleven fifty per one. If you buy ten, it's eleven fifty, so it'd be one hundred and fifteen per 10, right? There's no discount.
SPEAKER_02There's no discount, which is ridiculous.
SPEAKER_00For buying an extra, right?
SPEAKER_02I I did hear uh that they're they're bringing in bigger quantities of edibles instead of like having one or two in a container, it's being kind of ten now or something.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right, because I mean you had to go in and buy if you're gonna buy one for every day of the week to help you sleep, you know. I'll take seven, okay, instead of just can't pack a ten, please.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. That's right, yeah. I told you when we were in the states, we went in just to see what what what the what these little shops looked like and stuff in a couple of different states we were in just to have a look. We didn't buy anything, but when we were down there we just wanted to have a look, and all the edibles there were, yeah, like packages of like a hundred or yeah, yeah. There was like massive packages or like, you know, I think you know, let's say, let's say the smallest one you could get had 20 edibles in it or something. It's like, well, if it's no one that wouldn't want 20 edibles, like I well, not at once, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02This is why you hear these stories about kids bringing in show and tell, like bag of gummy bears. Yeah, yeah. Well, it's one, that's different. If it's a bag of 50, yeah, yeah. And they're giving them out to the primary class. Yeah, you saw what I did too. He's hunting your feet. He's hunting my feet. Yeah, we got a little fellow down there, yeah, male and female. But uh yeah, so anyway.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, yeah. You're throwing us off, cats.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's all right.
SPEAKER_00They're making a lot more noise than you think, too. Right, so Tommy Lee Jones, cocaine. Yeah, all right, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So um this is this is my joke from Asia.
SPEAKER_00Tommy Lee Jones' daughter, anyway. Not a laughing matter. It's kind of sad, right?
SPEAKER_02It's horrible, actually, for especially if she wasn't trying to OD and fentanyl gutter like it's been getting everybody. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Like, still have to coke, man, but whatever. You do what you gotta do, right?
SPEAKER_00So I'm assuming what are they cut it with fentanyl?
SPEAKER_02Is that the yeah, because it's cheaper, right? Yeah, yeah. Well, you heard our ding dong prime minister say that oh, there's fentanyl in the marijuana. Oh, our premier. Yeah. What did I say? Prime Minister. Sorry, our premier in Nova Scotia, yeah. Yeah. He's from Picto County, by the way. So he should know about weed. Right? Like, really? Fentanyl? What is wrong with you, man? Yeah. God almighty. Well, like we said before, the RCP even said, no, there's not.
SPEAKER_00There's not, there's no evidence of it.
SPEAKER_02Stop making that shit up, too.
SPEAKER_00Which again, you know, it's fine, but then show the proof of it. Don't just don't just say it and then be like, there's fentanyl in it, this is why we're cracking down on it, and we're gonna go after all these illegal dispensaries.
SPEAKER_02Nobody puts fentanyl in marijuana. No, not to mention, you buy it, it's green. Hey, look at the snow on the top. Wonder what that is. Yeah, right. Yeah. Really? Yeah, it's yeah, and it's not like it's yeah. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sorry. Cats climbing the curtains.
Weed Prices, Dispensaries, And Enforcement
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, it's just climbing the curtains over there, and we're just uh watching it and laughing my ass.
SPEAKER_00Uh, sorry, folks. It'll be like this for a little while until they get a little more clear.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty comical, though, but uh they're gonna be here sooner or later, I'm pretty sure, like climbing up around the back and everything else. Yeah, okay. So my joke in Asia was the the the K-pop stuff. Okay. Yeah. So I always used to say, Oh, I I know one K-pop and I'm like, what one, sir? I go, uh PTSD. They're like, what? I go, oh no, no, no, sorry. Uh BTS. I said, PTSD is what it gives me when I listen to them. Okay. Right? And it's like black, pink, and orange, green and all this other shit, strawberry puberty, just all kinds of weird names and shit over there.
SPEAKER_00Oh, God, I would yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I don't follow it. Yeah, doesn't matter. Yeah, some people do, some people love it.
SPEAKER_00Teaching kids that are that age that listen to them, of course, right?
SPEAKER_02Well, the you know, the 30-year-olds like watching this, and their mothers are watching K dramas. But anyway, okay. So BTS, if you didn't know, in Korea there is mandatory military service, no matter who you are. You have to go two years. Yeah, right. So I taught lots of kids who are like, yeah, sir, after I finish uni, I gotta go in, or some do it before uni, it decides. And you know what they also do? They go to uni overseas and don't come back. So they don't have to go in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, when I my first year, my first year at SMU, uh, my roommate, uh, one of my roommates was Korean and he he had uh he had to go back to do his to do his military service.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's real, man. It happens. Uh where I was living in Malaysia, they had it when I was there.
SPEAKER_00Uh was the other way. They did their military, they'd done their military first and then they'd come here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it well it works both ways, right? So I knew people that I was teaching that said, Oh, sir, after I leave uni, I'm gonna go do my two years military service. And I had other people that said, just finish my two years military service.
SPEAKER_00The guys that we had, we were from they were from South Korea, they'd come, they'd just finished their military. Because I remember we were messing around with them, like one of the big guys was like, Ah, you guys are so small, it doesn't matter what kind of training you had, and the little guy put a beat on them, like racked them up, put them in a couple of holes. 100%. We were laughing, man. Anyway, they were they were good, they were good dudes, man.
SPEAKER_02I had uh I had a guy, Kieran, that I taught uh Kenis to, and uh he was Singaporean, and uh he he he went to uni, and then after uni, he went into Singapore and he's like um what do you call it? He's special forces.
SPEAKER_00Oh wow, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and the joke was he showed me like a video, like him at the gym, and I go, okay, Kieran. I said, uh where they give you uh a gun, boots, and a bag of steroids, he's jacked. Like all of a sudden he looks way better than he used to. Not saying you're on drugs, son, but man, what's going on over in Singapore? Yeah, they look great. By the way, one of my other Kazakhs, uh sorry, not Kazakh, Russian, uh, his name is August. Can't say his last name, it's very hard. Sorry. He is shredded right now. He's a calisthenics guy. He just showed me some photos. Dude, he's got veins from here all the way up, and I'm just like, I'm gonna send you a sandwich. Yeah, yeah. I need one, sir. I haven't had carbs in months. He is stupid shredded. It makes no, yeah, it's ridiculous. Yeah, and I go, as long as you didn't strive yourself to get there, son. He goes, No, no, no, sir. I did it right, I did it right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's so hard to do that, man. You know. But all right, so we're getting hunted. Basketball. I feel like we're on the uh Jurassic Park. They're coming in from the sides, the philociraptor. All right, so where are we in basketball?
SPEAKER_00Uh I think uh start with Kawaii.
SPEAKER_02Well, all of a sudden he's playing.
SPEAKER_00I know, right?
SPEAKER_02Three games in a row, scored at least 40.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think. And the Clippers have now won like what, like four or five in a row or something like that, I know?
SPEAKER_02Something like that. And I saw Paul George actually dunk the ball.
SPEAKER_00Paul George plays for the six.
SPEAKER_02Oh, sorry, but I meant to say, yeah. I was just gonna transfer.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02The other day, Paul George is back again in Philly, yeah. In Philly, yeah, and he dunked the ball and the bench went bananas.
SPEAKER_00That you know what? It'll be interesting to see what happens in Philly because they got Paul George, who you know plays a little bit and he's hurting. And they got Embiid, same thing, but then they got you know Tyrese Maxi and that they're the rookie that's having a great year already. Yeah, what's that kid's name?
SPEAKER_02Edgecombe, yeah. Yeah, always good.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, really, if they're Philly's smart, they go, you know what? Let's start building around Edgecombe and Maxi. Yeah, I mean trade. I've you know, trade Embiid while they you can get something for them because somebody will pay, you know, somebody that's got championship aspirations will trade for Embiid for you know half a season if it means they're gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_02I watched the game the other day and it took me to the halfway through the second quarter. I went, Oh my god, Embiid's playing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I was like, usually he stand out on the floor. No, no, no. All right, yeah. No, no, no. But like he played a couple years, got his money, went, I'm good.
SPEAKER_00Well, he keeps getting injured, man. It's his feet.
SPEAKER_02It's what was his feet?
SPEAKER_00I can't remember if it's knees.
SPEAKER_02They're too big, that's the problem. Like, you're not supposed to be seven one jumping and sprinting the floors. Like, like Wimby's not gonna make a full career.
SPEAKER_00It'll be interesting. He's out right now, right? With a crap interesting.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, man. It's but yeah, no, but that but Kawhi, yeah, like he had that fifty. He came back and had like set a career high just the other night, fifty some points, fifty-five, I think it said. Crazy.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, let's be honest, career high. He's only paid twelve games in his whole career. Yeah, I know, right? Yeah. So career high. Pretty impressive. Pretty impressive after his 12th game, career high. No, like we still don't know what's wrong with the man. He says his knees.
SPEAKER_00We don't know, man. Nobody knows.
SPEAKER_02What's his what's his I can't remember what he's doing his own load management for the last 10 years. Uncle Luke. What's going on? All right. I'm sure everybody saw that. Just he just went by. Yeah. There you go. And he's gonna climb up. Uh Luca. Pylon. Yeah, yeah. Uncle Pylon. I heard somebody else call him a road cone. I said pylon first. Yeah, yeah. He's a white pylon. So we were talking off camera, and I said, you know, I don't know, we don't really know Luke. You don't really, he's kind of snarky and sarcastic when he's doing interviews. So I'm wondering, like, in the locker room, my question is this. I'm JJ, you're Luca. Hey, Luca, you gotta play some defense. Hey, JJ, who's the fucking leading score of the league? Yeah, good enough. Fair enough. I don't know. Like, I'm sure he's not saying that.
SPEAKER_00And it's fine when you're winning the moment you start losing. But defense wins championships, sir. If it's the effort, you know, like that's that's why you gotta you can't always rely on your superstars. I mean, they're gonna be the ones that are gonna lead you most nights, but every now and then you need somebody else to step up and be that effort guy for the night, right? And lead the charge and let everybody follow him, right?
SPEAKER_02So JJ's finally playing Marcus Smart and it's working out.
SPEAKER_00Marcus Smart and then Jackson Hayes, I said.
SPEAKER_02Jackson Hayes is working because what's a young Rivera? Riviera? Riviera, but I'm gonna go with uh DeAndre.
unknownWhat the fuck's his name?
SPEAKER_02DeAndre Aiton? DeAndre Ayton.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02We were on your side, bro. Now you're bitching, you're not getting enough touches. Play the game you need to play. What's it? Know your role and shut your mouth. This is what The Rock used to say.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Know your role and shut your mouth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what The Rock used to say.
SPEAKER_02Listen, there's a good team there. Just shut your mouth. You take a few less touches, it's fine. You're a center, you're not the go-to.
SPEAKER_00I think JJ came out and said, you we got to do a better job of trying to get him like some touches earlier. Sure. Right. Because it's like, I think it's uh what did they say? There's a you know, let's say Ayton's gonna get most of his points through pick and rolls, you know, roll into the basket, right? Let's let's just be honest here.
SPEAKER_02Well, he's not a shooter. No.
SPEAKER_00So you know, but I think what's happening is is you know, when he does engage and he does set those picks and he rolls, he's not getting the pass, right? But then you know, but that was AD would get that every time. He doesn't get a pass.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02You can't you can't be shitty though if you don't get the pass. No, no, you can't be shitty. He can't. It's just the way it is. It's just a cat eating something. They're getting into something behind me here. I think we'll be okay. They'll be alive, whatever that is. He's got a whole bag of something. But uh what did he grab, Wait?
SPEAKER_00He grabbed, he grabbed that little sorry guys, I'll be right back. Anyway, we can't have this.
SPEAKER_02So here's the thing like he's got two eight-week-old kittens, and they're just getting them uh I almost said sodomized. Oh my god, that's not what we're doing. I was thinking of two things together. I'm like, that's all right.
SPEAKER_00Spade, neutered, sodomized. Right.
SPEAKER_02I was thinking, right. I said they're not spade or neuter, yes, so they got lots of energy, but yeah, whatever it is, right? So anyway, like I said, you're gonna see them a lot because they're gonna be growing. They'll be around Roman. Sorry, folks, they're we are just having to watch them right now. That's right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I was telling you, I'm watching all these uh clips with Jason Williams. I love this guy.
SPEAKER_01You're saying that.
SPEAKER_02God, I love this guy. I wish he would have talked more when he was actually playing. Yeah, right. So he was talking about how he got cut and let go because he tested positive for left-handed cigarettes. Yeah. The coach kept telling him, you can't be smoking left-handed cigarettes. And he says, I was so naive. He goes, I never smoked a cigarette in my life, coach. Yeah. He goes, Oh, the other ones. He goes, Oh, yeah, I'm not gonna stop that. No, that's not happening. Yeah, yeah. So they got rid of him, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00White chocolate. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, go back, man. He was a good player. He was good, man. He was so good. But he also said, like, he was telling another story, and he wouldn't use, he wouldn't say who he was playing for or who the coach was. But he goes, I go out, he goes, go into the basket, I got a clear layup. I pass, coach, sit. He's like, okay. Put me back in, second quarter, go out again. I had to pass, go sit. He's like, listen, this is what I do. He goes, I'd rather pass the ball than shoot the ball. Coach is like, but you can't do that.
SPEAKER_00One of the most famous ones he has is the one. I don't know if you remember it or not. He was kind of going down and he went to go behind his back. But then he, like, how did he do it? He was gonna do it. He slapped it with his back, but then he then he like elbowed it. Yeah, whatever. Yeah, the other way, right? Fantastic. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Fantastic. He was good player, man.
SPEAKER_00White chocolate. White chocolate. White chocolate. Yeah. But anyway, yeah, you're right. He's he's no filter. Doesn't give a shit. No, he just doesn't care.
SPEAKER_02He's hilarious, man. He's hilarious. But I was watching, I saw a really good interview with Kobe Bryant from years ago. And in the in the interview room, it was one of his old teammates from high school.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. Oh, I saw this one. The wake up just asked him who the bet who the who the best point guard he ever played with was. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then Kobe just playing right along with him. He goes, Well, you know, number one is, and he said the guy's name, and he goes, but right up there, Steve Nash, number two, right there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now it's like that's a yeah, Kobe's a good guy. That was just a good guy, right? Just bantering off that thing. I thought it was really funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he recognized. I think he was a yeah, I think he was the his point guard on his high school team.
SPEAKER_02In his high school team, yeah. And he goes, Who did you say he's the best? It was pretty funny. That's when he goes about Steve Nash. But Kobe was a great dude, man. Just a great dude. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Interesting because I don't know. It'd be interesting to see the stats. We were talking about this stat the other day. I mean how many people because Kobe was in the league for 20 years. With Kobe in for 20? 20, yeah. Yeah.
NBA Surges: Kawhi, Philly’s Dilemma, Wemby
SPEAKER_0220 or 21. 20.
SPEAKER_00When they when they give that stat about how many, you know, the percentage of players, NBA players that these guys have played against. Like the other day I told you this.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the LeBron one.
SPEAKER_00LeBron had played against 36% of all NBA players ever, right? Yeah, but but the one thing, yeah, you're talking about the stats. Right. But I went and looked it up. Somebody has more. That's crazy. LeBron's played. Like, why are they showing this stat? But uh Vince Carter's played against 37% because Carter was in the league for 22. So you'd have to go back. Robert Parrish was in the league for 22. How many guys did he play against, right?
SPEAKER_02So that's a great question.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But there are a lot of smaller teams. Smaller teams, less players in the league.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. So yeah, but so LeBron, James, and Vince, 36, 37%. So it'd be interesting. Kobe's got to be in the 30% as well playing that.
SPEAKER_02Listen, here's the other thing, though. This is the weird one to me. LeBron's playing the Suns.
SPEAKER_00There's guys that are born after he's rookie season. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02There's guys in the league that's makes no sense. And then I don't like when the young guys are like, oh, I took out LeBron. You're 21. He's 73.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02In his prime, he would have crushed you and made you look stupid. We would have bought that poster and put it right there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right? Tech guy, wrestle those two cats.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. When um, you know, Dylan Brooks, like have we talked about before?
SPEAKER_02We want to like him because he's Canadian, but as soon as he starts talking with us, slap in the mouth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but he's always like taking jabs at LeBron. But uh, the funny thing is, I saw something the other day where, you know, I think when he was in high school, he was he was a huge LeBron fan, right? So he's re Dylan's just realized that he's got a way to keep himself in the media, keep himself and keep keep attention on him.
SPEAKER_02Like Drama?
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah, like MB MBA is, you know, NBA is driven by storylines and by media, right? People people want to see these guys. So, yes, like you know, these guys are in Dylan, you know, doesn't hurt doesn't hurt that Dylan can actually play ball, right? Yeah, that's the thing, right? You know, there's a lot of guys that can play ball, but you run your mouth and you you kind of have a bit of a reputation. Guess who gets to stay in the media a little bit more? And then through that, guess what they get? They get endorsement deals, they get it, you know, uh fan votes for all-star games. Like, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Well, speaking of that, you see who number one is? No, Giannis. Oh, really? Yeah, that's what I said. Giannis under LeBron's like 14th or 10th or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I saw I did see that. I did see that they're they're saying that LeBron might not, because he won't get voted in if he if by fan votes. And if he's the first time every coach coaches would be like, well, he's not one of the ten the ten best, you know, I know whatever forwards. Like, we're not gonna put him in there, we're not gonna vote him in, right?
SPEAKER_02If he doesn't get in, it'd be weird though.
SPEAKER_00But it's I saw Draymond come out and say, Come on, you gotta figure out a way to get him in there. I remember like, you know, back in you know, with my MJ when Jordan was there, they they were gonna bring him off the bench, and then what's his name said no. Vince said, No, you can have my start start. And he's like, No, no, no.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, Yes, go. Like, yeah, really.
SPEAKER_00So that was so it'd be interesting if the fans don't all of a sudden be like, oh man, we gotta band together and get LeBron in here, you might not make it this year, right? Which would be crazy. I never thought of that. That could be weird. But I mean at the end of the day, the all-star game is shit now, anyway. It is, yeah, who cares? Right. I I haven't watched it in years because I just I find it boring, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, yeah, I don't know. I mean, anybody can score.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. There's just no it's there's just no competitiveness. There's no anyway. I get it. It's an all-star game. You're not out there to hurt yourself, but you know. If all we're out there to do is chuck three so we can get like score 200 points each, like that's just that's not fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and be the MVP because you're chucking from everywhere or whatever. Come on, man.
SPEAKER_00That's not fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I'm uh I you know, the young kids, I wonder if they're like, oh, that's great. Like, they think it's great, because I know we don't. But do the young people, oh, I was so good, sir. Did you see the game as 200 to 189? Like, yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00I think we talked about that. That uh are the young kids cool with this? Who was it? I think it was Steve Steve. I think it was Steve Nash and LeBron talking to Luca about you know the AAU or whatever it's called. They're the um whatever the American uh developmental program is that they have to do that. Oh, right, right, right, right. Yeah, because the European leagues where they all play in like you know, the European leagues are very you know uh focused on fundamentals, team play, blah blah blah. Whereas, you know, Americans is just one-on-one, ISO ball, uh, and then now I saw like RJ saying that it's you know it's screwed, it's it's gonna be screwed uh because it's well everybody wants to be Steph Curry now, right? So they all want to dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, shoot. Yeah, you don't have the shot, what is it? Dribble dribble dribble dribble, four seconds left in the shot clock. Shit, I don't have a shot, throw it to throw it to the guy in the corner and hope he makes the shot and then be mad when he doesn't, right?
SPEAKER_02Like there was this is a few years back, but uh one of my students sent it to me. There was a high school game where one team only shot threes. Oh, like the whole game. Like that's it, they only shot threes. That's the stupidest thing, and that you know, everybody's like, oh, cool, right? I'm like, no, the coach should be fired. Yeah, like immediately. Like, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_01There's a guy.
SPEAKER_02Oh, wait now. That was wait, wait. You remember when uh who's the coach of Houston? Houston Rockets, they decided threes or layups, nothing in between. Well, Dan Tony. Thank you. Yeah, I couldn't think of his name.
SPEAKER_00Dantoni's had that offense forever, right? Like the the Tony was the guy who ran that the Phoenix offense back in the day, right?
SPEAKER_02Right, I just can't think of whose name was, yeah. Mike Dantoni. Well, there you go. So it is what it is. But uh now. I just watched Toronto beat Atlanta uh last night. But uh we're not talking about that part of Atlanta, we're talking about the Trey Young part of Atlanta.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was telling you I read I read the story about uh or the stats. That's gonna come crashing. Read the stats that they said, I think I want to say, and I could be wrong on the on the exact stats, but Atlanta's two and nine when Trey Young plays, and 15 and 11 when he doesn't.
SPEAKER_02Which is the guy they built their team around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and essentially it's showing that while Atlanta's offense goes up when Trey plays, the offen the opponent's offense goes way up.
SPEAKER_02He's a defensive liability.
SPEAKER_00Defensive liability, right? So I'm assuming that's what it's that's essentially what it's all about. And it's like, can you build around a guy that becomes that much of a defensive? And and for reference, remember, better back up than Brink truck. You know, Isaiah Thomas. You know, great all-star year, had a great year that year. Five foot two, Isaiah Thomas. What the guy could do. But I mean, then come the playoffs, all they did was hunt them. I mean, look at look at Cleveland. That's all they did when they when they played uh Golden State. They'd hunt Steph, right? Pick and roll, pick and roll, pick and roll until you get the matchup you want, right? Like so, see, that's an amazing.
SPEAKER_02Oh, Steph's such a good player, but he can't play defense either.
SPEAKER_00I didn't see this, but you told me they took him out at the end of the game.
SPEAKER_02They took him out at the end of one of the games. And here's the other problem, too. I'm thinking back to the Lakers now with uh Aiton bitching and complaining. Aiton, you beat him beyond your game because you're gonna have to go against Wimby in the playoffs. Yep, right? Good luck, bro. Yeah. So you better body that man up and start cutting him out. Something like that.
SPEAKER_00And I saw a block Wemby had the other day on Butler. Yeah, I saw that. Did you see that? Where he like Butler like that would have been a sure layup for him. Somebody had him for sure. Bumped him with the body, went to lay it out way over here, and Wemby still was able to reach his arm across.
SPEAKER_02They're so long, and his fingers are like that anyway. Bananas shooting over them is hilarious.
SPEAKER_00It is hilarious. Everybody shots, so they got so much arc on them, right?
Stars, Defense, And All‑Star Voting Fatigue
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I mean you're not used to shooting the only thing, Jokic, I guess. Yeah, that's true. You could shoot something. Here we go. Okay. Yeah. Okay, got it. It's good, yeah. You could run up and do laps back and forth on that, but uh, I don't know. I mean, it is what it is. So we're we're about halfway through the season.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, all starts. Like you said, all-star game voting has started. So we're about halfway through close to the halfway marker on the all-star game, right?
SPEAKER_02So I mean, you know, everybody's still looking at OKC, but I'm telling you, if they come up against a team that wants to play them straight up.
SPEAKER_00No, like we've said San Antonio's had their number this year. They got their number. Yep.
SPEAKER_02So and and uh Shay actually said it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he did. Yeah, he came right out.
SPEAKER_02He goes, Listen, if a team beats you three times out of three times, they're better than you.
SPEAKER_00All right, look, we talked about this story in the last one about uh LeBron James and uh oh my god, uh anyway, God's names escaped me. Where he said we were we were the number one seed, we beat them four games, four swept them four games in the regular season series, and LeBron goes, Oh, we got you guys figured out. And then they went and they swept them in the playoffs. The chaves went and swept them in the playoffs, right? Yeah. Yeah. It doesn't matter, like you can be the top team in the league, and but if a team figures you out in a seven-game series, man, that's right. That's tough to win, right? So that's right. So anyway, so I guess in saying that San Antonio might beat them, might have won the series 3-1 or whatever it was, but you know, come playoffs, it's a different series. We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_02We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_00But that's good to see, you know, San Antonio now uh the uh you know, OKC, now San Antonio, some of these younger teams coming up, right? Like it's time to see the switch you want to see the change in other guard because I mean, God, like it's been LeBron or Steph or KD or you know, you know, Jokic and Yannis uh, you know, kind of came along. But even then, even though those guys were still winning MVPs, people were still like, oh yeah, but LeBron's still the best player. Like, oh, KD's still better than all these guys, right? Like, yeah, even though they were winning MVPs. At least now the consensus is that Jokic is ridiculous. If he doesn't win MVP again this year, hey, here's the here's it. We can talk about this, I guess. The last one.
SPEAKER_02Because I don't agree with last year's at all.
SPEAKER_00So because of the the number of games he has to play, he might not be eligible for MVP this year now.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, he's not that bad. He's only been out a couple of games.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but he's gonna be out for at least four weeks. Oh, is it four? Oh, I didn't read. Yeah, he's out for he's out, he's missing at least 16 games, if not more.
SPEAKER_02His own player hit him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw it. Yeah, yeah. Bruno. Which, again, give the guy credit. I saw something the other day that said only once, I think, or maybe never has he played less than 72 games in the season. That's pretty much right for a for a big guy. We just talked about it.
SPEAKER_02And not only that, he actually plays. Yeah, like he's in the mix every game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's leading the league in rebounds and in an assist right now.
SPEAKER_02Still leading the decade in all four categories. It's crazy, right? It's crazy. Yeah, nobody even thinks about it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Who?
SPEAKER_00Exactly right. So so the consensus is that this guy is like the best player in the in the world, probably right now, right? Yeah, I'd be fine with that. Yeah, I'm fine with that. Him or Shea. No, Shea's great. Shea's a good player. Shea's not near as good as Jokic. Not all around, right? Not all around. I mean, again, Jokic is slow. He's not a great defender either, right?
SPEAKER_02Like, he not overly athletic. No, he's just his IQ is through the roof. Yeah. Right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He knows where to what he's gonna do with the ball as soon as he gets it. And he's telling other people what to do too.
SPEAKER_00Man, some of the passes he throws, like the the the court vision that guy has is is impressive, right?
SPEAKER_02Reminds me of Gretzky when he was on the ice. Like he just how did you see that guy? Like, you know, even I remember one goal, Mark Massey scored, and he goes, I don't even how did he even get that to me?
SPEAKER_00When you get guys like that, you always hear like their teammates say your head's gotta be on a swivel. Yeah, because you never know. Well, LeBron was like that too.
SPEAKER_02Magic Johnson.
SPEAKER_00Magic was like that, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a couple of other guys, like you didn't his whole fancy. Yeah, yeah. You know, oh yeah, yeah, the whole craziness. Yeah, people forget about Magic, boys. Don't you forget? He was great, giant man, move like that. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think still a lot of people will still consider him the greatest or greatest point guard ever, right?
SPEAKER_02Has to be. How can he not be? Six foot ten point guard.
SPEAKER_00It's you know, the argument is always like, well, Steph's, you know, Steph is a surefire Hall of Famer, best shooter to ever play the game. That's great. Staff and Steph is, but you know, Steph is not what you'd call your uh You're not gonna build your team around Steph Curry.
SPEAKER_02You're just not. I don't care what anybody says. He can't play defense. Yeah, he he only shoots threes.
SPEAKER_00But he's not your your he's not like your standard point guard, like a point point guard when you know, especially when we were growing up and you know, Magic was, you know, John Stockton, you know, Isaiah was a score first point guard, but he still had a lot of assists, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh but Steph is not Steph's not, you know, what's Steph average? Probably a year, four assists a game, maybe if that.
SPEAKER_02Maybe, right? He's not trying to pass. No, he's trying to get open to the game.
SPEAKER_00He's more like a shooting guard, right? So 100%. So it's it's kind of a tough one, right?
SPEAKER_02Um but I still like when Steve Kerr goes, he's never had a bad shot. Okay, Steve.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, they are bad shots.
SPEAKER_02He just yeah, you know, oh Steph's never taken a bad shot. Draymond, that's different. Yeah, okay. Because Draymond's shot is ugly. It is so ugly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it goes in every once in a while. We talked about what what game was it, game seven, where they're just like, you know, we'll we'll let if Draymond's gonna hit his threes, we'll let him beat us. And Draymond had a great game seven that year that they lost to Cleveland one, but this year we're talking about. But Draymond had a great game that game because they left, but they left them wide open, man.
SPEAKER_02Like they were like Well, that reminds that reminded me of uh Jason Williams just said this story too about another guy. He I can't remember what the guy's name was. He said the guy's name, and he goes, he goes, he was open three times in the corner. He says, We call the timeout and come off. He goes, Jason, I'm opening the corner. He goes, There's a reason.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nobody cares.
SPEAKER_02He goes, and he says, I never heard anything from it after that. He goes, I told him straight up, there's a reason you're open. Come on, man. Yeah, exactly. But anyway, yeah, you got anything to add?
SPEAKER_00No, I think that's pretty good, man. I think we uh all right.
SPEAKER_02Well, we we wore the cats out, they're both sleeping, yeah. And the tech guy's asleep, too.
SPEAKER_00Sleep with them, yeah.
Jokic’s Brilliance And Point Guard Legends
SPEAKER_02But anyway, all right, everybody. So you know where to watch us on uh BuzzSprout, Apple for video and audio, uh Spotify, video and audio, and then all the things that go along with uh BuzzSprouts. You can see it on my actual channel, Muscle and Fiction, with uh Coach Bobby. And uh, we're not gonna do the thumbs up anymore because we we're letting that go now. Because the kids, we've drilled it into them enough that we told them how it is. We don't care about the thumbs up. So now we got something new.
SPEAKER_00Oh, do we? Sure.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna do what the Maderna uh Madura guy did when he got arrested. Maduro. He goes like this peace.
