This week’s message in Exodus 34 reminds us that God’s mercy does more than forgive failure. God's mercy actually rebuilds what’s been broken. After Israel’s rebellion with the golden calf, God meets His people again with compassion, grace, and covenant love, showing that their story was not over. Through Moses’ return up the mountain, we see a God who invites broken people back into relationship with Him, not because they’ve fixed themselves, but because He is merciful and faithful.
As the chapter unfolds, God begins reshaping His people’s worship, rhythms, and lives around His presence. Ultimately, the story points us to Jesus, the One who perfectly reveals God’s glory, carries both mercy and justice at the cross, and invites us to come honestly with our failures and fears. What might it look like to stop hiding the broken places in life and instead take the next faithful step toward the compassionate and gracious God who is still rebuilding His people?
