What's going on, everybody? I want to welcome you to the Black Sheep Leadership Podcast. I'm your host, Athena Renee, and this is where the underdogs, and this fits in the Black Sheep, come to turn pain into power so that they can build a life by design and leave a legacy behind. Now, if this is your first time tapping in, welcome family. I appreciate you stopping by. And if you're back again, I appreciate you tapping in once again. You already know what time it is. Let's do this vibe check real quick. Because if you're easily offended, sensitive, entitled, waiting on somebody to come save you or allergic to accountability, this ain't your space face. So get your ass up out of here, right? Go ahead and tap out now. But if you're ready to think different, move different so you can level up different, stay locked in, my friend. Because by the end of this episode, you're walking away with something that you can execute immediately. All right. Let's get to work. Today we're talking about your past was just a chapter. So why are you treating it like a life sentence? One bad season should not define your whole story. You know, one of the greatest tragic tragedies in life is when a person survives the pain but never leaves the prison behind. The event is over, the betrayal is over, the mistake it happened, the divorce is over, the rejection is over, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, they are still serving time. And as a black sheep, this can be one of the biggest obstacles that we face. Because many of us, we have some stories. I'm talking about some real ones, some deep ones, painful ones. Stories of rejection, abandonment, failure, betrayal, humiliation. But there comes a moment when you have to make a decision. Will you allow your past to be a teacher? Or have you decided to make it your permanent address? See, the thing about it is a lot of people don't consider the dangers of living backwards. And what I mean by that is the constant problem with you looking back and looking behind you is you eventually lose sight of what's in front of you. Because you cannot build a future while constantly reliving the past. You cannot walk into purpose while carrying yesterday on your back. And here's the crazy part: most people think they're remembering, but they're actually rehearsing. They replay the same hurt, the same failure, the same disappointment over and over and over again. And here's the thing your body, your soul, your psyche, it doesn't even know the difference between something that happened years ago and something that happened right now. Because it's all about the emotion you put behind it. This is why one of the main things they talk about when you really want to um make something manif you want to manifest something or you want to bring something from the invisible realm to the physical realm, is you think about it as if you already have it, but you combine that with the emotions of how you would feel. And think about when you continue to look at the past. There's certain wounds that we have, and here's the thing listen, I am not devaluing anything anyone has been through. Okay. I have been connected to people that have had horrific things happen to them, and they move forward, you know, and I know they still carry those things. However, your past is the data, it's the information. Some of it was life lessons, some of it was things you went through that will align you with your life purpose. Okay, because eventually what you repeatedly rehearse becomes what you repeatedly believe. Okay, see, one of the biggest mindset shifts that I have that I had to learn is that your past is just part of your story, it is not your identity, right? Just because you messed up, it doesn't mean you're a mess. Just because you failed doesn't mean you're a failure. You just found ways that it does not work. Just because you were rejected doesn't mean you're unworthy. Your rejection was a protection. Some of you guys don't understand that. You would have been diminishing the huge purpose and calling you have on your life. And some of you might say, Well, I don't want a huge calling and I don't want to get on stage. It's not even about you getting on stage necessarily, it is about the impact that you will have, starting on the impact on you, your household, and the people that you encounter on a regular basis. Because what I've learned is there's legacy in all of us. But see, some people are so short-sighted to think that they have to have a huge crowd, a huge following, they got to have a huge family to leave legacy behind. But truth being told, legacy is about the people you impact on a regular basis. Because one thing you must understand as a black sheep, your story is so powerful that you could write one book, you could make five podcast episodes, you could put together a PDF document about your story and about how to overcome whatever that thing is, whatever it is, even if it's not about overcoming, just about how you achieve something that presented so many challenges. What you don't understand is your story is so powerful that you might never walk on a stage and speak out in front of a lot of people. But your story is so powerful, you can upload that thing online and you don't know who might be impacted in a positive way from your story. You don't know. It could be someone in a completely on a completely different continent, and there you are, you might be in your your senior years, or you know, when you're about to tap out from the game and transient on to the next level, right? And you hear about somebody in a whole nother country that was impacted by your story by an article you posted online years ago. You forgot about it, you didn't forget about your story, but you forgot about the resource that you put out there on the internet. You forgot about the white paper that you uh published for one of the universities, you forgot about the ebook that you created, it was only 50 pages long, but you forgot about it. And guess what? It could be decades later. You living good, you're good, but it could be decades later, and somebody will bring it up to you or let you know or send you an email or anything to say, hey, you had a huge impact on my life. I don't know how I stumbled upon this particular thing that you had out, but it helped me so much, it changed my life. And guess what? Here's the here's the thing about when you're moving in purpose. See, you could create it's not about the amount of work you put out, it's not about how long it is, how big the audience is, it's about impact. And what I want you to understand is you could put out a work, a body of work that's 20 pages. Okay, let's say, for instance, you got a body of work that's 20 pages. You can put that out and you can inspire someone else from one chapter of your book, and they will end up writing a 200-page book based on your report, based on a sliver of your report. And guess what? The fact that they just stumbled upon your information, even though it wasn't even a coincidence. But guess what? They stumbled upon your message, your information, your resource, your problem solver. They stumbled upon it, and now they're talking about how they ran upon your story and were so inspired. You inspired them to write a book, you inspired them to go farther. That is what legacy is all about. Think about Napoleon Hill. Napoleon Hill did not have any children, and if he did, I've never known. Think about Andrew Carnegie, think about Harriet Tubman. Now, I believe Harriet Tubman possibly had one child. I don't remember, I don't think so. But what I'm saying is, these are people that we're still talking about today. It may not be in every circle, but these people, their names still ring bells, their names still give inspiration. But the reason why is because they did not allow their past to become a life sentence, and now they're inspiring people hundreds of years later. There's no difference between you and them. The only difference is they were intentional about putting something out there, sharing their story, making sure they help someone, right? And helping someone through their life struggles, helping someone through their intelligence. They have decided that their past is not their identity, but they're gonna use their past as power to fuel the future. And guess what? The next thing you know, you have built a legacy. You have built a legacy, okay. So remember, just because things happen to you, I mean, there's so many things that go on in life, and we don't have any control over it, we only have control over how we perceive that thing to be and what it means to us, right? Some people talk about victim or being victorious. So I'll give you an example. The reason why, when I'm talking about black sheep, the reason why I'm always digging in the bag and I'm always going back to the 1800s, right? The reason why I'm always talking about the Harriet Tupman's or the um Helen Kellers, blind and deaf woman out here making moves before women could even vote. The reason why is because they did not let their past identify them. And listen to me, I don't care what race you are, you can look at anybody from history. I'm gonna give you another example. Think about the potato famine in Ireland. A lot of people perished. A lot, right? And people will put things up online. And the thing about it is, do you look at it as a sore spot in history? It could be, it is, right? Do you look at it as like a pain, some pain from history, a sore spot in history? And oh, they're is it a is it used as an oppressive, uh, as an oppressive mechanism to keep you down and feeling depressed, or and even if they are when they put it out there when they put it out there, but you are the one that controls how you receive it. So you can say, Hey, you know what? I'm checking out Harriet Tubman, and that lady wasn't a mulatto, she didn't know how to read, she didn't have a smartphone, and guess what? She said it's something better for me than the plantation, and she dipped, she stepped out. So listen, when I look back then, of course, my heritage is full of uh oppressed people and slavery, but guess what? If we still here, that means you are part of something strong. That means your bloodline got something in you that listen, you can go through some shit. Because, see, the world, I don't care what decade it is, it's not gonna be easy. And it's not for the faint of heart, it's not for the person that wants a handout. This is why I always talk to the black sheep about pursuing your life purpose, doing things you love, because we are living a time now where people want to bring up the past all the time because they feel entitled, they want a handout, they want somebody to give them something. Ain't nobody giving nothing for free, even if you feel like they owe it to you. So why wait? Why live in your past? Why live in the past circumstances? Because one thing you must understand is this people will do you bad, and and listen, especially when you're a good person, especially when you're a black sheep, because you know they feel like you ain't nothing, they feel like you're not gonna amount to nothing, you nothing of value. But what you must understand is the worst you were treated, to be honest with you, it really was the creator hiding your value. Because see, as black sheep, we were we were a lot of us, we are already people pleasers. So imagine if the creator would have put all your value out there on display. You was already giving them a lot of you for free. You was giving to them out of love, but it still cost you something. See, you had all them friends, they weren't your friends. You was feeling depressed, but you could still go over their house and cheer them up. You could still get them props and tell them you're doing good, but guess what? When it was your time, they bailed on you. Okay, so what am I saying? I'm saying that regardless of how people treat you, use you, and abuse you, one thing about it, and two things for sure the creator set up universal laws to make sure whatever people sowing, you're gonna reap it. Whatever goes around, it's gonna come back around. So you don't have to be bitter, steady looking back, waiting on them. You ain't gotta do no clapping back. Because I understand that too. You ain't gotta do none of that. You ain't gotta do none of that. Because trust and believe, a lot of times the main people who talk about us, treat us like a dog, treat us like we was nothing, did it in our face, played in our face, didn't give a crap about how we felt. God will bring you right back around to them folks. And when they talk about your table being prepared before your enemies, he will set that table right up. And guess what? It may not even be a physical table in their face, it might be a clip of you online, look living your best life, looking good, smelling good. And let me tell you something people can tell when you're genuinely happy about life. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of pretenders out here, but as a black sheep, people know because see, one thing about the creator, what I love about him as well, is he always leaves somebody that can attest to what you came from. See, but you don't now here's the thing number one, don't surround yourself with a whole bunch of people from your past, but the creator is going to purposely leave somebody around that can attest to it. That don't mean they're gonna always have access. Why? Because a lot of times your past, people, places, and things, these ghosts of the past, they want to bring you back. You already fighting the ghosts of the past because you're trying to move forward, you are moving forward. But so many different things have happened to us as black sheep, and we have a lot of scars, and so you yourself, you like, I can't be looking back, and you don't want them people around you as much, but God's gonna make sure somebody knows. I'm saying all this to say you ain't gotta do nothing, they gonna see it. You might say, I don't even want them to see it. That's how I feel. I don't want them to see it. I'm not pressed for them to see it, but trust and believe me, just because of how they put you out there and did what you're doing and did what they did, and put you out there like that, trust me. You may not even know it, they're gonna they're gonna be looking, they're gonna see you because as a black sheep, the creator he made you to be able to withstand all the tribal tribulations you went through, but at the same time, he knew you wasn't gonna crumble, he knew you wasn't gonna fold. And those are the type of people that the creator wants to put on display. See, a lot of people you see on on an exterior level, they might look good, smile, and all that. They weak. They weak as hell, they ain't been through nothing. Soon as something happened, they get an attitude or they quit. No emotional intelligence, can't go through nothing, can't manage any type of challenge or trouble. As a black sheep, you was born in trouble, and that is a sign that number one, your past is the training ground for your luxurious future, but it can only be that if you allow it. See, what you must understand is this a lot of people confuse experiences with identity, and that mistake costs them years. The creator is not looking back, the creator made what he made and looking forward. He said what he said is nine planets. We might discover some more, but guess what? I did what I did, and I'm moving forward. See, one thing, like I said, the creator is always moving forward, nature moves forward, it evolves, seasons move forward, seasons don't look back. It's been winter, spring, summer, fall since the beginning of time. Since the beginning of time, ain't no looking back, time moves forward, ain't no time moving back, growth moves forward. The only thing trying to keep you stuck is your attachment to what already happened to you. I always tell my folks, listen, if you meet people and the first thing they want to do is bring up your past in a way of trying to humble you, not give you praise and saying, Man, we didn't came a long way. Because sometimes you need people to do that because as black sheep, I know we are our own worst critic. And let's be real, sometimes you need people to give your reality and change and say, Listen, man, we came a long way. You don't remember what we were saying, you know, you get back into your mode, and it's not even about being ungrateful, it's just that you want to do better, you want to be better. Well, sometimes being better is just simply recognizing the fact that you made it from circumstances that other people could not make it from and did not, they could have, but they did not. Okay, and like I said, one of the things that I always tell my folks is this if you hanging around with somebody that keeps bringing up your past, call themselves trying to slick humble you, that is a top indicator that they belong in the past. Since they want to keep bringing it up, they belong back there. They belong in the past, okay. And so, what you must understand is the very thing you're holding on to is the thing preventing your next blessing. This is where I want to give you a practical tool for just really when you really want to embrace your future and the things that the creator has for you. This particular tool is called CAD, and that stands for control all delete. Whenever your past starts trying to paralyze your future, control your thoughts. Control your thoughts. Say, man, that was my past. Those were life lesson experiences. When your past try to paralyze you, say it, I'm a prophet from you, Baz. I'm a prophet from you. Control your thoughts because not every thought deserves your attention. You don't even deserve your attention. That's why sometimes when you have a negative thought, switch it around and give it, make it a positive one. Oh, yeah, they they rejected me, but that was my protection. Now I don't have to deal with that kind of stuff no more. Right now, hey, listen, they rejected me, it was my protection. Now, when I see them online, I'm glad. I know a lot of y'all have ran into people that you like them so much, and you like, whoo, I dodged a bullet, I'm so glad. So when you control your thoughts, because not every thought deserves your attention, the second part of it is alternate your beliefs. Don't have that victim mentality. You victorious. I'm still here. Anytime. Sometimes, man, people will bring up, oh, that's what I'm talking to y'all about different historical things that you see on TV. And a lot of people they might get upset and sad, and some things work. I'm gonna give you an example. I was looking at a city in from the civil rights movement. But guess what else? Guess what I do though? I alternate my belief system and think about how the freedom riders, and here's another one before I even go into that one. Think about how now you see on online, people want to push the agenda of always separate people by race. But guess what I do? I get online and I look up something about the freedom riders. The freedom riders were a group of college students, black and white, that got on a bus and went to Alabama and said, nah, in the 60s. And you gotta understand the type of you gotta understand how they put their life on the line just to be stand the stand-up guys and girls. Number one, if you were white, you would be disowned, they would kill you too. They didn't care, they did care. So guess what? Them folks had guts. Think about the sit-ins, they were non-violent, people were pissed, those people were hot. They were hot, you know why? Because people get pissed off when you make up in your mind, I'm not gonna be that, what you're trying to identify me as. But also, what I'm telling you is when you see people willing to go above and beyond for and stand on something they believe in, it fires you up because you have alternated your belief. You're not looking at it like, oh, we a victim, we shall overcome. We're gonna overcome. It's gonna be a lot of crazy stuff, like Tupac said. You're gonna see a lot of stuff that's gonna make you not want to smile, but smile anyway. And the reason why you're gonna smile anyway is because you're making progress. You're not just standing still like a mummy, like a mannequin. You're gonna move in spite of, you're gonna improve yourself in spite of. That's how you alternate your beliefs. You look at a story and you say, you know what, I could get sad about this story, it could make me mad, but guess what? It's gonna inspire me. And if it does make me mad, it's gonna rev me up to make sure I make changes in my life so that I can see the sacrifice that other people had. Think about even with the woman's suffrage movement. That wasn't just a racial thing, that was women in general. If you had women like Susan B. Entity that said, No, man, we ain't gonna do that. We're tired of this crap. And a lot of people paid the dues, they paid some people, they paid with their life. What I'm telling you is you gotta alternate your beliefs on things, find you something that you're willing to stand on, die for, and live for. I'm telling you, it just like a light bulb come on, it switches it up on how you look at things. People try to bring up your past. Oh, that's just so that I can appreciate my future because it's gonna be rich and prosperous. I remember um because I grew up with my grandparents or whatever in a very impoverished uh city outside of Chicago, Southside, about 40 minutes. And um, I remember someone that just settled for a life of selling drugs. And listen, there was no shade from my end, right? Because I mean, that was their level of success. That's what they wanted. But what guess what they did? They wanted to start sending me pictures because I'm in a bigger city now, you know, and I wasn't even talking to them about it. They just know that's where I'm at, right? And we were supposed to have been cool. They started sending me pictures of my grandmother's house and where I grew up at, very humble beginnings, and I instantly picked up on that, oh, they're trying to humble me. But see, what they don't understand is this is why I always talk real big and bold and want black sheep to live their best life ever. Because I truly believe that if you come from the bottom, why am I gonna let somebody talk me into settling in life? I don't care what year it is, I don't care what the economy is doing. If you come from the bottom of the basement, like I say, if you come from humble beginnings, why would you want to settle for something you've already experienced? So when people try To bring that stuff up, I say, man, I just look at it and think to myself, this is why I could never become arrogant and too cocky. I talk my shit, but that's because, and you can too. You know why? Because you survived the things of the past. You didn't let it take you off the rails. We may have wandered off a little bit, but we didn't just stay off the track. We didn't just stay off the path. We got back on it and kept going. Some people allow their past to be their only destination. And if you didn't, you deserve to walk around with your head high. You deserve to have some confidence about yourself. Then nobody paid them dues but you, but you got to alternate your beliefs because you're gonna encounter a lot of people and scenarios, and with this information technology, with this information age we're in, people post all kinds of stuff online. And I when I start seeing it, I'll see a little bit of a headline. I keep swolling. I want you to really become very uh very exclusive, is the only word I can think of right now, but oh, particular about the content you consume. Don't give listen, I've been telling you guys, your attention, your energy is currency. Stop giving people energy and attention that don't deserve it. And that's these as influencers online. If they're not lifting you up and telling you good information that can help your future evolve, it can put you on another level, and if they coming out with some old suppressive ass sad information, same old riff-raff in a cycle of look what happened to us, and oh, they in a victim mentality, cut it off. Cut it off. When I see influencer that always want to post up about, yeah, well, these people they've been doing this, and those people they doing this. Guess what? You will never, I'll never get on. Any type of gender wars, I'm not getting on. Because if you know anything, you know me better together. And the first thing the enemy does, whether it's a spiritual enemy or a physical enemy, he wants to back you in your corner and make you feel like it's just you. He wants to make you feel like nobody will help you, make you feel like everybody against you. But see, what I want you to understand is as a black sheep when you tap into your life purpose and decide you're gonna use your past as purpose and fuel to become better and help somebody else, the creator, God, will send people from all over the place to help you out. And just like me, my first client, my first customer was a Latino family. My ticket price was $400. $400. I had other small items that was like that. $400 is what they wanted, and they came back a second time. It wasn't a whole lot of going back and forth, it wasn't none of that. What am I saying? Had I been closed-minded, trying to feed into all these people, that people, guess what? I could have missed my blessing from my first customer. And I'm so grateful that the creator made it that way because I can brag about it and say, I'm not a business owner that only want to do business with people that look like me. This is why I love talking and catering my life to the black sheep, because black sheep, a lot of time, the first place where we were denied and rejected and ejected from the game and all kinds of stuff was from people that look like us. Sometimes it happened right at home, right in your same neighborhood, around the same people that you look like that you grew up with. And as a black sheep, you had to learn uh to fend for yourself. You had to learn to take care of yourself. You have been giving out and all these different things. And then as you went through life, you can look back and see, yeah, it was probably more people that wanted to put their foot on your neck, but it was always people that stuck their neck out for you. See, the thing about being a black sheep, you must understand your life is gonna irritate people, demons. It don't even matter if you playing it low-key. That was something I had to learn as well. You plan it low-key, you could be in the back of the library with a newspaper up in your face. Guess what? It could be somebody coming in the library and they're gonna know it's something about you. So we already in this mode where we're not damning our light down. But I want you to understand about alternating your beliefs about yourself because you must understand everything you went through, it's gonna work out for you. Okay, challenge that story you've been telling yourself, right? The failure wasn't the end, the betrayal wasn't destruction. See, they wanted it to be though. That's the thing, but you gotta show them it didn't do nothing. And last but not least, you gotta learn how to delete. You just did control, we alternating our beliefs. Now you gotta learn how to delete. Delete what? Delete the bullshit, delete the bullshit people say, delete the bullshit people post online, delete the bullshit at your playlist that you know is not gonna help you or hold you up. Delete the lies. A lot of people want to lie and say different things about you and try to get it in your mind, even with online people will try to seep a lie in quick. The enemy will. He'll send it through his different minions with stupid uh people be posting all kinds of stupid stuff online. Delete that bullshit, delete the labels. When people want to try to say, Oh, all of them like that, oh, that's how they do them. People like that, they don't know you. You a black sheep, you a black, you you already represent the one percenter. Don't let people label you on nothing. Delete them labels. Here's another one delete the victim mentality. I'm telling you guys, listen, there are some you know groups online, you know, social media platform content creators, and they have some good stuff that they post online, right? Now, listen, hey, I'm a brown woman, right? I'm African-American, and I know a lot of people, oh, and there's no such thing. Listen, I'm gonna represent what I want to represent, all right? I'm not out here identifying with a toaster oven or nothing like that, right? But I understand that my I have African roots, but at the same time, God ordained for me to come to America, whoever my whatever my bloodline was, right? He ordained me to be in America. I could have got dropped off in Brazil, I could have got dropped off in the Caribbean, all those different places. But God said, Let her people come here. So I'm here. I'm saying all this to say a lot of these uh content creators, they always want to post stuff about look what happened to us. Don't ever forget. If it's a part of your history, you won't forget. But are you trying to make a bed there? Why every time you post something up, you always gotta make it like a victim mentality? What about focusing on the people that said, you know what? It was all kind of shit going on back then, but look at this group of people that said, We don't care, we're gonna do it anyway, right? Don't become sucked into this victim mentality. Delete that shit. That's the stuff I want you to delete as a black sheep. Delete the victim mentality, delete content creators that create that type of message, delete the outdated identity. A lot of you guys, you still feel like, hey, I'm just an underdog. I ain't gonna never do anything. Listen, you can always say black sheep. Me, I'm always be talking about the black sheep because I know the black sheep, it is not even an identity, it's not even a label, it's just to tell you that, hey, I've been through a lot and I didn't let that shape my identity. I stick out, I wasn't a part of the crowd, but I did it anyway. That's why I like talking about the black sheep. Delete all these outdated identities that people, oh, you lame. Oh, you know, they square, they don't be doing nothing, you know, they be trying to act like they this race, they be trying to act like they that. Delete all that old outdated shit and be who you are supposed to be. Delete anything that no longer serves your future. Period point blank. So if you was big and you done got small, regardless of how you did it, delete the old identities. And this is why I'm telling you guys when you meet people that want to keep you in your past, delete their ass too. Because you cannot download a new life with old software. See, but here's the good news black sheep often become some of the strongest people on the planet. Why? Because we've been through things already, we've seen it and we've survived it. And if we choose correctly, our pain becomes wisdom, our wounds become lessons, and our story becomes somebody else's survival guide. That's real power. The real purpose of the past is it was never designed to imprison you, it was designed to prepare you, to teach you, mature you, and strengthen you. And once you extract the lesson, you don't need to keep signing up for the class. See, once you understand the lesson, don't keep signing up for the class. You don't need to keep carrying the pain. You already got what you came for. Okay, so here's the three moves I need you to go ahead and make. You can go ahead and implement these guys starting today. Number one, identify one story from your past that you're still carrying. Write it down, be honest. What memory still has power over your emotions? Just think about that for a second. Write that thing down because when you identify something, that's when you can really work on it. You're like, you know what? Because I'm gonna give you an example, my scale had been stalling, but I was able to identify quick on what I had been doing. Right now, I can go ahead and get that up out of here. Number two, run the CAD process, run that control alt-delete process, control your thoughts, alternate your beliefs, and delete the bullshit. Apply it immediately. If nothing else, just remember CAD control alt-delete and delete that shit up out of here. It don't belong. It don't, if it don't belong, if the first instance you get where some don't belong, it don't belong. And apply it immediately. This is stuff that you can do right now. You see, we and a half, we're already in the sixth month of the year. Where do you wait on? Go ahead and download your new life and delete them old files, okay? And number three, write a new narrative instead of asking what why did this happen to me? Ask yourself, What did it teach me? What did it teach me? See, this one guy named 19 Keys. I love something that he does when he says he gets into different challenging scenarios or in different places where he's trying to serve and things don't work out. The first question he asks himself is, What's the lesson? What's the lesson? Why? Because once you extract the lesson, you ain't taking that class no more. Ask yourself, what is the lesson? What did this teach me? And I'm telling you, that will change everything. Black sheep, your past may explain you, but it does not define you. The chapter happened, the lesson happened, the pain happened, but your story is not over. Don't spend the rest of your life serving a life sentence for something that was already sealed and finished. Learn the lesson, take the wisdom and leave the prison. And go build a future you were sent here to create. Okay? Until next time, y'all. Keep in mind information is everywhere, but execution is rare.
