In today’s episode of Woman in the Word, we’re invited to begin again—right where we are. Drawing from Revelation 3:20 and John 6:35, we explore the tender image of Jesus standing at the door, knocking, and offering Himself as the Bread of Life.
What does it mean to open the door daily? To receive fresh bread, not yesterday’s leftovers? So often we try to sustain ourselves on past encounters, old strength, or borrowed faith—but Jesus offers something better: Himself, new every morning.
“New Day, New Bread” is a gentle call to intimacy, reminding us that Jesus doesn’t force His way in—He waits, He invites, and He fills. Whether you feel weary, distracted, or spiritually hungry, this episode will encourage you to come back to the table and receive what your soul truly needs.
Today is a new day. The bread is fresh. Will you open the door?

Welcome to Woman in the Word, the podcast where we dive into scripture, ask real questions, and walk through the Bible together, one honest conversation at a time. I'm Felicia Parker, I'm your host, and I'm so glad you're here. So whether you're new to the Word or you've been studying for years, there's a seat at the table for all of us. So grab your coffee, open your journal, or put on your walking shoes, and let's get into it. Happy Woman in the Word Wednesday. I am so excited that you're joining me today, as always. Today we are talking about new day, new bread. I'm excited for this one, so let's go. So we have some friends that moved out of town to another state for about a year or so, maybe a couple years, and they are moving back, and we're so excited. Um, and I I just enjoy their company so much. And what we usually would do when they were here before they moved was get together. We would get together on the weekend, um, sometimes after church on Sunday, and just hang out and have a good time and eat some food and enjoy each other's company and get our kids together playing and laughing and just having a good time. And so I'm so looking forward to them coming back. And I can't say enough about the joy that it brings me to sit with them and just enjoy their time and enjoy their presence and to share a meal and to laugh and to just enjoy the time that God has given us together. Y'all know where I'm going. Revelation 3.20. It says, Look, I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will share a meal together as friends. And Jesus lets us know in Revelation 3.20, He desires to come in and share a meal together as friends. And there's just a few things I want to point out in this scripture before we even go further. It says, Look, I stand at the door and I knock. So first he's saying, Open your eyes and see that I'm here. Open your eyes, look through the peephole of your heart, of the door of your heart, and see, I'm standing here, I'm here, I'm waiting patiently at the door. And then he says, I'm knocking. So he is in a position to let you know I'm here and I desire to come in. And it says, if you hear my voice and open the door, let's just pause for a moment. He's not just standing and knocking, he's also calling your name. He's standing at the door and he's saying, Hey Felicia, I'm here. Hey, Sarah, I'm here. Hey, Roxy, I'm here. Hey, April, I'm here. Put your name in the blank. Hey, I'm here. And I'd love to come in and just have a meal and a conversation as friends. And he says, if you hear his voice, you open the door, he says he'll come in and you'll share a meal together as friends. And I just want to let you know this is not just a one-time, he stands at the door and knocks so that you can receive salvation and be able to call him Lord and Savior. No, this is a daily knocking so that he can give you what is needed for the day. Like the title of this episode is New Day, New Bread. Every day we need to be leaning into the Word of God and getting bread for that day, strategy for that day, wisdom for that day, insight for that day. And if we are not conscious of the fact that Jesus is standing at the door knocking and wanting to come in and dine with us daily, we will consider this scripture a one-time, hey, this is the get saved. Jesus is knocking on the door of my heart so that he can be my Lord and Savior. Okay, I open the door. I'm good. And we will miss the fact that he says, Hey, I don't want to just do the one-time knock to answer the question of, can I be your Lord and Savior? He's saying, I want to come in and be a friend. I want to come in and have a conversation. I want to come in and speak the truth and love. I want to come in and shed some light on maybe areas that you don't see. I don't know about you, but when I think about friends, true friends, right? Not the ones that are trying to impress you and you're trying to impress, but the true friends that'll tell you if you have salad in your teeth or you know your hair is kind of crazy from the wind. You know, those type of friends. I feel like that's what Jesus is saying. He said, Hey, I want to come in and I want to share a meal together as friends. I want to tell you things that I see that maybe you don't see in your blind spots. I want to encourage you where you need encouragement. I want to help guide you where you need guidance. I want to help correct you in areas where maybe you're going down the wrong path. And he wants to do it in a way of being a friend, not of being a mean, overbearing God that maybe some of us have in our mind of, oh gosh, I don't want to open that door because I know the life I've been living or the sins I've committed, the thoughts that I thought, the words I spoke. And now here comes, you know, God knocking at the door, and I'm gonna be judged and I'm gonna be, you know, treated in a lesser way, whatever we think when we think about God, and our approach will reflect that. AW Tozer said, what you think about when you think about God is the most important thing about you. And I love that because I remember from the religious standpoint of God was angry at me and he was going to get me. So I have to figure out how to make it right so that I'm back in good standing with him. And that was kind of my thought process when I was younger. And now as I'm maturing in my walk with the Lord over, oh my gosh, the last I can't even say 20 years or so, I've become to see God as a loving father, as the one that wants to comfort me, that wants to correct me, that wants to guide me, that wants to lead me, that wants to speak the truth in love. Yes, he'll bring conviction, but it there is no that angry God that just wants to get you because you messed up. No, that loving Father wants me to know hey, Jesus is standing at the door and he wants to just talk about some things. He wants to help lead you and guide you so that you're prepared on the day of his coming. And that's ultimately, I feel like what Revelation 3.20 is leading us to. He wants you to open the door so that he can help you work on those areas in your life so that you're ready when he returns. Because one day, y'all, he is returning for his bride, which is the church, which is the body of believers. He's he's returning for them. And he wants to make sure we're ready. He does not want us to miss it because we didn't one look out of the peephole to see him standing there. We didn't listen to hear for the knock, and we didn't lean in to hear his voice calling our name so that we can sit down and have conversation as friends. Hey, I just wanted to take a quick pause in our conversation and introduce you to uh the lover of your soul if you have yet to meet him. I would love to lead you in the prayer of salvation. So if you'd repeat after me, that'd be awesome. Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I'm in need of a savior. I confess that Jesus is Lord and I want him to be the Lord of my life. I believe that you raised him from the dead to rule and reign for all of eternity. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with the precious blood of Jesus. I thank you, Lord, for dying on the cross just for me. In Jesus' name. Amen. Hey, if you just prayed that prayer, I want to welcome you to the family of God and just say congratulations. So we pick up in John chapter six, and this is where Jesus has fed the 5,000. And then the people are just like, oh my Lord, give us another miraculous sign because this is just awesome, right? Because I think sometimes when we are in a position of being a fan, we want to see what Jesus can do. But when we find ourselves in a position of a follower and desiring to be a disciple, we ask how we can serve the mission of Christ, how we can allow what he's doing to change us, not just do something to make me feel good, look good, um, make the situation better, but how can I be more like you? How can I serve your mission here on earth? And so we find in chapter six, he feeds the 5,000 and people are just amazed. And then he walks on water, and then he is approached by the crowds, they they see he's not there anymore, and so they get in their boats and they go to find him, y'all. Because miracles will move people temporarily, they will move people to search for him. Why? Because they want to experience another miracle. But when our heart is truly committed to opening that door daily, we're no longer searching for the miracle, we're searching for the miracle worker. So the people that are following verse 25 of chapter six, they found him on the other side of the lake and they asked, Rabbi, where did you go? Like, how did you get here? Where did you go? And Jesus replied, I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. Verse 27 Don't be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval. Verse 28, they replied, We want we want to perform God's works too. What should we do? Jesus told them, This is the only work God wants from you. Believe in the one he has sent. They answered, Show us more miraculous signs if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? Verse 31. After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness. The scripture says, Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat. And then Jesus, I love how he just has mic drop moments. Verse 32, he says, I tell you the truth. Moses didn't give you bread from heaven, my father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. And verse 35, I'll jump there really quick. Jesus says, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. And there is just so much packed in there, y'all. But first and foremost, let me say Jesus is the bread of life. He is what we need for our spirit man to stay strong. He is what we need to walk out this life and to walk it out successfully. And apart from him, we can't do that. He told the people in verse 29, I'll read it again. This is the only work God wants you to do. Believe in the one he has sent. Let's just put a pen in it right there. How can I believe in one that I am not spending time with? If he's knocking at the door and I'm not letting him in and I'm not dining with him, trust me, that friendship is not growing. That trust is not growing. That belief in him is not growing. So now all I do is like these people in scripture, all I do is I know about him, but I don't know him. And he desires for us to know him, to believe in him, to know that he is Lord and Savior and the miracles I've seen, the miracle worker is who I'm attached to more than the miracles I'm chasing. And I think sometimes we may find ourselves wanting the miracle more than we want the miracle worker. And I think that's just a great opportunity to pause and to check our hearts and say, why is it I'm more hungry for the miracle than I am the miracle worker? And y'all, I was thinking about that. And something that came to my mind was we will desire the works that are produced by the miracle worker more than the miracle worker at times because we're hiding. We're hiding in shame, we're hiding in frustration, we're hiding in guilt, we're hiding in anger, we're hiding in disappointment, we're hiding in fear or doubt. And so we think, okay, I'll take the miracle, but I don't think I want to get into the presence of the miracle worker because he's gonna point out those things in me. And y'all, I want you to know the best place you can go for those things to be pointed out is in the presence of the Most High God because He calls that place the place of rest, the place of peace, the place of safety, that you are protected there, that you will, your spirit will be renewed there, that he will cause you to lie down and rest in peace there. So that's the place you want to go. I would say desire the miracle worker more than the miracle. And y'all, there were times where I desired the miracle more than the miracle worker. Why? Because I walked in shame, I walked in guilt, I walked in anger, I walked in unforgiveness, I walked in doubt, I walked in fear. And so I thought, okay, I'm not worthy enough to really sit with you like that, even though you're saying you want to dine with me as friends. If you knew me, you wouldn't want to. And so I would go and God, I need, I need this miracle though. But I was too ashamed to just sit there and let him remind me that he wanted to have a conversation with me as a friend, that he reminded me that I was a loved daughter, that I was a joint heir with Jesus, that I was called by name, that I was set apart, that I was his chosen child, that he loved dearly, and that his love would never change toward me, and that he saw me through the lens of love because of the blood that was shed on the cross. So I want you to hear me. There is nothing that you have done that should make you feel as though I can ask for the miracle, but I am too embarrassed or too ashamed or too afraid to sit in the presence of the miracle worker.

SPEAKER_01Okay, so jumping back into this scripture passage in John 6, it's just so rich with information. I just, I just, oh gosh, I just love the word. And I love Jesus and his response to the crowd and to the people. And he said, I tell you the truth in verse 26. You want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. And then he says, Don't be concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life the Son of Man can give you. Hear me. When we see Revelation 3.20, and he says, Hey, I stand at the door and I knock, let me in, and we will dine together and we'll share a meal together as friends. What he's saying is, I come to your door so that you can sit with me and seek the eternal things that only I can bring, to seek after that eternal life that you'll only get through me. So he says, Hey, don't be concerned about the perishable things. Don't be concerned about what this life can offer. Don't be concerned about the commercials and the and the reels and the podcasts and all the things that are promising, all these things apart from him. Because apart from him, you will find nothing that is truly lasting. And so Jesus just lets them know, hey, you're only following me because of what I did, but I'm asking you to lean into me for who I am. And I love how he says the only work that God is asking us to do is to believe. And then he lets us know, hey, I'm the bread of life. I am the one that you need to be spending time with daily. So think about this. If you were to say, you know what, I am not really that hungry. I'm gonna, I'm gonna skip lunch. I'm okay. And then you get to dinner and you say, you know, I'm still not that hungry. I'll eat a light salad. And then you go to breakfast, you know, time the next morning and you're like, okay, you know, I'm a little hungry, but I'll eat. And then, or maybe you say, No, no, no. By the time you get to dinner, I'm not gonna lie, most of y'all are gonna be starving. If it's not you, it's me. Unless I'm on a fast and I'm purposing to tell myself we are not eating, I'm not going too long without a meal. Why? Because my physical body is reminding me that I need to eat and drink fluids to sustain a healthy body. Christ is letting us know I am the bread of life. In order to sustain your spirit, man, you need to consume this bread on a regular basis, not on an occasional basis, not on a it's a special occasion, so I'm gonna dive in and eat it like it's a buffet. No, no, no. Christ lets us know I am the bread of life, and he desires for us to consume it daily. In Joshua chapter 1, verse 8, it says, study this book of instruction continually, meditate on it day and night so that you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and be successful in all that you do. So God is letting us know right here, hey, read this word daily, get it in your heart, eat this bread of life daily so that you will prosper and succeed in all you do, so that I can love my children well, so that I can honor and respect my husband, so that I can manage my affairs well, so that I can take care of my body well, so that I can forgive well, so that I can walk in faith and not fear. All those things we can find in Scripture. Why? Because we're now studying it continually, meditating in the word day and night. And when we do this, what we're doing is every time we open this word, we're opening the door to Jesus, and now we're having conversation as friends. We're sharing a meal. We are literally diving into the word, hearing Jesus speak off the pages of scripture, and we are consuming the bread of life. We are consuming what is needed for our spirit, man, to thrive and not just survive. I cannot stress enough the importance of being in the word. The enemy's goal is to keep you out of it because he knows if you get in this mirror called the word, it will change you. You will begin to see you the way God wants you to see you because he will lovingly expose areas in you that don't look like him so that they can be changed. And the enemy does not want that to take place. He doesn't care if you hear the word, play your Christian music, all the things. What he does not want you to do is be consistent in your time with God because he knows it will change everything about your life. And it's it is stated right here in scripture, and God does not mince words. He said if you study this continually, you meditate on it day and night, you will be sure to obey everything in it, trust and believe. You can guarantee you're gonna prosper and succeed in all that you do. The enemy doesn't want to see you prosper and succeed in all that you do according to the word. He wants to see you prosper and succeed in all that you do according to the world's way because he knows ultimately ultimately that leads to destruction. He does not want to see you succeed and prosper in doing what the word has called us to do. He doesn't want you to forgive, he doesn't want you to love well, he doesn't want you to lead your children the way that God has called them to go. He doesn't want you to remind people that they have been forgiven and that God loves them. He does not want you to find purpose and walk in it. He doesn't want you to do any of those things. So his goal is to keep you from being consistent in the word. And you have to be intentional about getting in this word. I'm gonna jump up a little bit to verse 7. So hear this Joshua 1, verse 7, it says, Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all of the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. So I'm gonna read it like this Be careful to obey, don't deviate, and then you'll be successful in everything you do. Hear what I'm saying. Be careful to obey everything that's written in the scripture. So when you open up the word and it tells you that you're to forgive, apply it to your life. If it tells you that God loves you, believe it. If it says as you draw near to Christ, he'll draw near to you, believe it. And then it says, don't deviate, meaning don't look to the right or to the left, don't look to how the world's doing things, don't look to how your feelings responded to the last time or your thought process before sitting in the word. It says that you have to stay laser focused on the word and what it says because that is the truth. And then it says you will be successful in everything you do, but you have to be careful to obey and understand deviation leads to destruction, deviation leads to failure. Deviation is not just the over-the-top extreme. Oh my gosh, you totally deviated. No, deviation is a slow progression of uh I'm just tired today. Oh, I'm I'm frustrated today. I don't feel like reading. Oh, you know, I'm I'm just kind of sad today. And we go to something else other than the word. On a sad day, get in the word. On a happy day, get in the word. On a disappointed day, get in the word. On a frustrated day, get in the word. On an overly excited day, get in the word. Why? Because that's the only way you're going to be able to be successful. And deviation is a tactic of the enemy because if he can get you to get your eyes off Christ, now you will be looking at the panoramic view of the world and how they are doing things. And it will always look way better than it really is. And his goal, if he can get you to not be careful or intentional. About staying in this word, and he can get you deviated to look to the right or to the left, eventually you'll go there. Because if you stare at a thing long enough, you gaze on a thing long enough, you go there. Whether that means the anger that you're focusing on from a situation, you focus there long enough, now you're becoming more angry. Or whether it be sadness that you're dealing with and you think about it long enough and you become even more sad. Or you feel isolated and now you feel like, oh gosh, I don't have anyone you know to call or to talk to. You've meditate on that long enough, now you think the whole world is against you. Whatever it is, that deviation is gonna take you further than you want to go. So you have to be very careful. And y'all, I'm speaking from honesty right now. There have been times where I've deviated and my attitude was poor, my outlook was not great, my responses to people were short, they were curt, and I'm like, oh my Lord. And I remember there were times I came back to God in prayer and I was like, God, I don't like me. Like, I don't like how I am right now. My attitude, my actions, my behavior. I'm not, I'm not liking me right now. And God checked me and He said, It's because you got out of the mirror, you looked in another direction, and whatever you focus on will become the focus of your attention. And literally, the things that I was focusing on were frustrations at home or, you know, uh friendships or work or whatever it was. And so I focused on that more than saying, okay, no, no, I'm meditating on this word. I'm gonna remember what God says so it can keep me in check. And y'all, that's what that's what the word is for. It's to help us walk out this life daily. It's not supposed to be a Sunday morning meal, it's not supposed to be a buffet because you haven't been in the word. Now you're trying to scarf it down. No, it's a daily interaction with God, it's a daily meal spent with your friend called Jesus that wants to speak to your heart about you. He wants to talk to you about you. He loves you that much that he wants you to become more like him. We cannot say that God is a loving God and he's willing to leave us the same. Y'all, he's not. And if anyone has told you that, it's not the truth. God wants us to change and to become more and more like him each and every day. And that's why Jesus is saying, Hey, look out your people. I'm standing at your door and I'm knocking and I'm calling you by name and I'm asking you to open the door because there's so much I want to share with you. There's so much I want you to know. There's so much I want you to walk in. If you would just open the door so we can enjoy a meal as friends. Thanks for hanging out with me in the Word. I hope it encouraged your heart and gave you something to carry into the rest of the week. If it spoke to you, share this with someone who might need it too. And hey, don't forget to follow or to subscribe so you don't miss out on what's next. Until then, keep showing up, keep listening, and let his word lead the way.
