What's Your Vibe?

In this episode of Woman in the Word, we're diving into a powerful contrast found in 2 Samuel 6. As the ark of the Lord returned to Jerusalem, David danced, celebrated, and worshipped with abandon before God. Meanwhile, Michal watched from a window.

One was fully engaged in the presence of God. The other stood at a distance, observing, criticizing, and disconnected from the moment.

So, what's your vibe?

Are you a worshipper like David—willing to humble yourself, rejoice, and respond to God's goodness with your whole heart? Or have you found yourself in the window seat with Michal, watching what God is doing in others while remaining spiritually detached?

Join us as we explore the danger of becoming a window watcher, the freedom found in wholehearted worship, and the invitation God gives every woman to move from observation to participation in His presence.

Don't just watch what God is doing—step into it.

Welcome to Woman in the Word, the podcast where we dive into scripture, ask real questions, and walk through the Bible together, one honest conversation at a time. I'm Felicia Parker, I'm your host, and I'm so glad you're here. So whether you're new to the Word or you've been studying for years, there's a seat at the table for all of us. So grab your coffee, open your journal, or put on your walking shoes, and let's get into it. Hey, welcome to the Woman in the Word podcast. I'm so excited that you're joining me today. As always, I always enjoy our conversations, and I'm really excited for this one as usual. I feel like whenever God gives me something for the podcast, it excites me so much I can't wait to share it with you. And this is one of those words. And today we're talking about what's your vibe. So let's jump into it. Have you ever been at a place or around people watching a show? And you may say, Oh man, I'm not I'm not really feeling their vibe, or you know what? I I really like her vibe. You know, she's so upbeat, so this, so that. And it's so interesting because when you think about it, it's almost like, okay, well, what's my vibe vibe? If I'm looking at, you know, somebody else and thinking, what's their vibe? Basically, what are they like? What's their personality? What's the atmosphere like? What's the mood like? That's kind of what we think about when the question is posed, what's what's your vibe, or what's the vibe gonna be at this event, or what's the vibe gonna be at this get together with these certain people. And I find it interesting that I had a dream. Um, God gave me this dream about a week ago, and in this dream, I kept hearing, What's your vibe? And in the dream, let me just paint the picture for you. It's kind of like we're at a big football stadium, and in every seat in the auditorium or in the stadium, it was filled with people. Now, each section, picture a large section going from the bottom floor all the way up to the top level, it would be one big section, and that would be a part of this one worship director section. And you would see certain sections, big sections, worshiping, praising, singing, hands raised, doing all the things, and then you'd see other sections, worship directors and worshipers with their hands folded, and they're looking at the other people and they're judging, and they're kind of like, uh, you know, you're you're a little too loud for me, you're a little too excessive, uh, you're you're getting a little too carried away with that. And so they were standing and watching, and I kept hearing in this dream, what's your vibe? And then 2 Samuel 6. That's all I kept hearing over and over again on repeat. So this was at probably like one or two in the morning, and I said, Okay, Lord, when is my prayer time? I'll get up because I'm too tired right now to go read 2 Samuel 6. But I said, Lord, please help me not to forget that. Please help me not to forget. So when it is time to get up, I can go read it. So when it was my prayer time, I got up, you know, and I busted open my Bible and I read 2 Samuel 6. And y'all, this is where we're gonna jump in for today, and it's gonna be so good. I pray it's a blessing to you. So in 2nd Samuel chapter 6, I'll give you a little backstory. This is where we find David, and he is now king, and he is bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to the city of David. In the beginning of the chapter, we see that David has gotten 30,000 of his elite troops to come help him bring back the covenant, or I'm sorry, the Ark of the Lord, which is this box that housed the presence of the Lord. That's how they carried um the presence of the Lord in the Old Testament. And so initially they're bringing this box from the place that it was at, which was Abinadab's house, back to the city of David. And one of the sons of Abinadab, the box, once they got to a certain place, it slipped and he went to reach his hand out to kind of catch it. And y'all literally, he died just from touching the box that housed the presence of the Lord, which was uh the ark of the Lord. And in my study, I was like, man, this is so interesting that this man died from touching it, and it wasn't that he died from touching it, it was that his touch represented a lack of reverence for God and his word. So if we go back in scripture, Levitical priests they were told, hey, you don't touch the things that are set apart for the Lord. So this box represented the Lord and the and the holy things that were set apart for him. And so when this young man went to touch it, it was like, I'm not gonna think about what God is saying. I want to help hold this thing, sustain this thing, steady this thing, as if his ability was needed in this moment. And so he dies. David gets upset that this happened, and I'm gonna read it to you. Verse 8, David was angry because the Lord's anger had burst out against Uzzah. Verse 9, David was now afraid of the Lord, and he asked, How can I ever bring the ark of the Lord back into my care? So, so in that moment, he was angry, but then his heart posture changed, and he said, Lord, I'm afraid. Like I'm realizing that my reverence for you wasn't like it should be. And now I'm back in this posture of reverential fear, and he's saying, How can I boast about bringing the presence back to my city? I need to get my reverential fear back in check. And so he says, How can I bring this back into the care of the city? And so he leaves it, which I find so funny. David's afraid to bring it into the city, but he tells another man, You can keep it at your house. So he leaves it at this man's house, and the man's name is Obed Edom. He leaves it at his house. Verse 11, it says, The Ark of the Lord remained in Obed Edom's house for three months. And hear this, y'all. The Lord blessed Obed Edom and his entire household. So the Ark of the Lord is now in this man's house because David was afraid to take it because he said, Oh gosh, my reverential fear, I've gotta, I've gotta work on that because I've noticed that I've kind of lacked in my reverence. And so he's like, I can't take it into the city yet. And so he leaves it at this man's house for three months. For three months, this man, his house, and everything in it was blessed because the presence of the Lord dwelt there. And let's just put a pen in it really quickly. The presence of the Lord will bring blessing into your life like you can never even imagine. If you are in the presence of God and you are worshiping him like you should, that you have the reverential fear for him like you should, the blessing rests on his presence being in your life. So if you are far from God, the blessing isn't resting on your life because his presence isn't there. And and how do I know that? Thank you for asking. Verse 12 says, King David was told, the Lord has blessed Obed Edom's house and everything because of the Ark of God. So David went there to get it. So David left it. The blessing was on the Ark of the Covenant because that represented the presence of God. The presence of God blessed this man's house. So David said, Let me go get the thing that houses the presence so that blessing can be on me and my house and our city as well. Hey, I just wanted to take a quick pause in our conversation and introduce you to the lover of your soul if you have yet to meet him. I would love to lead you in the prayer of salvation. So if you'd repeat after me, that'd be awesome. Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I'm in need of a savior. I confess that Jesus is Lord and I want him to be the Lord of my life. I believe that you raised him from the dead to rule and reign for all of eternity. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with the precious blood of Jesus. I thank you, Lord, for dying on the cross just for me. In Jesus' name. Amen. Hey, if you just prayed that prayer, I want to welcome you to the family of God and just say congratulations. So he goes and he's all excited. And he goes to get the Ark of God and bring it back to the city of David. And it says that verse 14, David danced before the Lord with all his might. I think it took the first incident for David's worship to become even more excited, even more over the top to where it described he danced with all his might because he says, I've got my reverence for the Lord back. I'm back in my rightful place as far as my reverential fear. I'm not going to take for granted what I'm carrying. I'm carrying the presence of God, and it's the most holy thing I could carry. And so it says, He danced with all of his might, wearing his priestly garments. So David and all the people of Israel, verse 15, it says, David and all the people of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and blowing of the ramstorm. They were celebrating, y'all. They said we've got the presence of the Lord, which means we've got the blessing on the of the Lord on our city, on our houses, on our families. And so they were worshiping and they were praising their great God because his presence was with them. And my question is, do you praise God because his presence is with you? Or have you become so familiar with him, like the young man Uzza, that you forget how great your God is, how holy he is, how mighty he is, and how his presence in your life is the only thing that provides the blessing in your life? Have we forgot that? Have we become so familiar? Has it become so commonplace to us because you know we've been we've been walking as a Christian for a while? Or have we lit the fire a little hotter and said, I'm gonna dance with all my might because the presence of the Lord rests in my house? I'm gonna dance with all my might because the presence of the Lord rests in my in my city. I'm gonna dance with all my might because the presence of the Lord goes with me. So therefore I'm blessed, my house is blessed, and everything in it is blessed because the presence of the Lord is there. So David is now walking with the ark of God, with the ark of the Lord, and he has gotten to his city, to the city of David. And it says in verse 16, But as the ark of the Lord entered the city of David, Macaula, his uh the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she was filled with contempt for him. What does that mean? She was angry, she was disgusted, she was bothered by the fact that he was out there acting like that, looking like that, as she sat in her window and looked, what does it say? Down from her window. Have you ever been in a situation where you feel like, why is this person looking down at me? Why is this person sitting in the seat of judgment, sitting up high, looking down low, as if they can do that, which that seat only belongs to God? But have you ever felt like, man, why is this person looking down at me at the way I talk, at the way I walk, at the way I dress, at the way I love God, at the way I honor my spouse, at the way I raise my children? Have you ever felt that way? I know I have. And in this moment, David is being looked down upon by his by his wife because she is displeased with the way he is worshiping. And this is the way God gave it to me in the dream. He said, You're either a worshiper or a window watcher, but you're not both. And you have to pick one. So some of the people in my dream that were standing with their arms folded and they were judging, they were the window watchers. They were the ones saying, Why are you acting like that? Why do you have to do all that? It doesn't take all that. And then the other sections that were worshiping, they were they were considered the true worshipers. Like it says in John 4.22, Jesus tells uh the woman at the well, he tells her, True worshipers will worship God in spirit and in truth. True worshipers. Now, what does that mean? That means there could be a counterfeit worshiper, aka a window watcher. A window watcher, hear me, could worship in their way in a certain place, at a certain time, around certain people. But a true worshiper says, I'll worship God anywhere, anytime, anyplace. And I won't worry about who's watching me because it's not about the place that I worship him, it's not about when I worship him, it's not with the people that I worship him with, it's about worshiping him in spirit and in truth, if I am going to be considered a true worshiper. And what does that mean? To worship God in spirit and in truth. First, let's take spirit. Spirit means the Holy Spirit empowers me to worship the way God desires to receive it. So if I am not a Jesus follower, if I have not given my heart and my life to the Lord, if I have not surrendered to his lordship, I am not capable of worshiping him in spirit because the Holy Spirit only indwells in those who are believers. It is totally free. So all you have to do is jump on our website, purpose-promise.com, click on the gathering, drop down, register, and we look forward to hosting you. Alright, let's jump back into the episode. If I'm not a spirit-led Jesus follower, I cannot worship him the way that he deserves to be worshipped. And number two, it says spirit and in truth. Truth is Jesus. So now we're talking about who we're worshiping. It says in Scripture, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. What this is saying when it says, when Jesus says, hey, we've got to worship God in spirit and in truth, he's saying you've got to worship God with the empowering of the Holy Spirit, and you have to worship me because I'm the truth. Anything else, don't focus on it. Don't focus on the fact that you're not in church on a Sunday and it's a Monday morning and in your and in your shower, you're you're getting your worship on, or you're on your drive to work and you're worshiping, or you're in a conversation with friends and you guys, you know, break out in worship. And I don't mean break out in song all the time, but I mean as the Spirit moves you, he will begin to lead you and guide you, like scripture says, into all truth. So in a moment where you find yourself overwhelmed, the Holy Spirit may lead you and guide you into beginning to worship God with your words. God, I thank you that you are a provider. God, I thank you that you are a healer. God, I thank you that you are a wavemaker. God, I thank you that you're the God of heaven's army and you fight for me. God, I thank you that you're the great I am. God, I thank you that you are Jehovah Jireh, that you are Jehovah. Whatever it is, he will begin to lead you and empower you in your worship to the one who is the truth, which is Jesus. So David's worshiping, his wife is disappointed, and David responds in verse 21. It says, David, David retorted to McCall, I was dancing before the Lord who chose me above your father and your whole family. I laughed when I read that because I thought, whoa, that's harsh. Those words cut. But what he was saying is, hey, above you and anybody else that mattered that was deemed most important to the children of Israel, I choose God. Above all of you guys, none matters more than my great God. So I will give him the worship because he chose me above the first king that had ever been chosen, above the first royal family. God chose me. He found me on a pasture sitting with sheep, came and anointed me, called me a king, and now I stand in the manifested word. I'm not going to not give him worship. And y'all, he goes on to say in verse 22, he says, Yes, I'm willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes. He said, You know what? I don't, I don't even care about me and the judgment I have of myself. I'll look foolish in my own eyes. So that means I'll definitely look foolish and be willing to look foolish in your eyes. Are we willing to look foolish and become even more undignified in our worship of God because he deserves it? Or do we care too much about the people? It was so interesting. I was reading earlier this week, and one of the scriptures says that some of the Pharisees believed in Jesus, but they didn't want anybody to know because they didn't want to get kicked out of the synagogue. It said because they cared about the praises of the people more than they cared about the praise of God. Let that never be said of us. That the reason we won't give God the worship that's due to him, the reason that we're so concerned about how we look and our image and what we're perceived by the people, that we won't give give God the worship, let that not be said of us because we cared more about the praise of the people than the praise of God. On September 19th, 2026, women will gather at the UNLV Student Union Ballroom for a powerful day of connection, encouragement, and renewal. The gathering 2026. There's a seat waiting just for you. One thing I want to stress to you is that being a window watcher is costly. How do I know this? Scripture tells us. In verse 23, it says, So, McCall, the daughter of Saul, remained childless throughout her life. So after she makes this statement, she has a conversation with David about how disgusted she is with him and how embarrassing he is. He comes back and lets her know I'll become even more undignified. You haven't even seen anything yet. My God deserves my praise no matter what. And then it says, so, meaning, okay, this follows what has happened. So she went on for the rest of her life, childless. I need you to hear me. When you sit in the window and you watch and you don't get down and worship, you miss out on carrying and birthing the things that God needs you to carry in the earth. The gifts that are wrapped in our praise, you miss it when you sit in the window and just watch. And you judge people, or you think it's only supposed to be done in a certain way, in a certain place with certain people. We don't, she was saying we don't get down with the common people, basically is what she was saying. You like you look terrible down there. I can't believe you did that. You danced with those people in that way at this time. God is not asking for us to be caught up in the people, he's asking for us to be like David, caught up in our praise in a way where we say we don't care, and even to ourselves, we'll look foolish, so that God gets the glory that is due to him. And my question to you is will God get the glory out of your life? Or will you be a window watcher because you're too concerned about what people say, what they think, or how they're judging you? I desire to be a worshiper, a true worshiper. I don't want to be a counterfeit worshiper. I don't want to be a counterfeit worshiper that's also known as a window watcher because I only want to worship when it's most convenient or nobody looks out of place because we're all in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing. Absolutely not. I want to be a true worshiper for the rest of my life because my God, like David said, my God chose me. My God chose me to be on this earth at this time, walking in the will of God for my life in my generation, like it says about David in Acts 13, that he fulfilled the will of God in his generation. I want to fulfill the will of God in my generation. If that means I have to look even more foolish and become even more undignified in my praise, I will, because I don't want to miss him. I don't want to miss what's wrapped up in my worship. I don't want to miss what's wrapped up in my praise. I don't want to miss the fact that he deserves it because his presence goes with me. The blessing rests on me because of the presence of God. I don't want to miss it, and I don't want you to miss it either. So my question for you today is what's your vibe? Are you a window watcher or are you a true worshiper? And my prayers, if you're a window watcher, that's okay. I've had moments where I've been a window watcher and I realize it's because I need to get back into the presence of my great God. So if you're a window watcher today, that's okay. God can help you. He loves you enough to help you get back down on ground level and become a true worshiper because this is what I know. You can't sit in the window and worship and be considered a true worshiper because you're too busy watching others. But when you get down on the ground in a posture of surrender, there is no other option but to worship because he is too good, he is too great, he is too powerful, he is too mighty, he is too sovereign, he is God all by himself, and you will just begin to praise because in a heart of surrender, there's gratitude, there's love, there's overwhelm for the goodness of God. So become a true worshiper today if you're not. And hey, if you are, here's my challenge become even more and dignified in your praise because God is worth it. Thanks for hanging out with me in the Word. I hope it encouraged your heart and gave you something to carry into the rest of the week. If it spoke to you, share this with someone who might need it too. And hey, don't forget to follow or to subscribe so you don't miss out on what's next. Until then, keep showing up, keep listening, and let his word lead the way.
