Hey everyone, welcome back to This Week in St. Louis. I'm Bryce, and after a busy 4th of July weekend, this weekend is a bit more relaxed. We've got a mix of great live music, some classic St. Louis summer staples, and a few things that are just genuinely fun and a little unexpected. It's a good weekend to get outside, catch a show, and ease back into the summer groove. Let's get into it. This week in St. Louis is presented by Hoffman Brothers, trusted by St. Louis families and businesses for over 40 years. Whether it's your AC, water heater, plumbing, or even EV charging, Hoffman Brothers has you covered. Local, licensed, family-owned, book your service at HoffmanBros.com. Big thanks to them for supporting local stories like this one. Let's kick things off with music because this weekend has some really solid shows. Friday night at the pageant, the St. Lunatics are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, Free City. If you grew up in St. Louis in the early 2000s, this one hits different. The St. Lunatics, Nellie, Murphy Lee, Kaywan, City Spud, and Slowdown are the group that helped put St. Louis on the national hip hop map. And Free City debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and went platinum. Seeing them celebrate that milestone back home on a Friday night at the pageant is a pretty special thing. Then Saturday night, the fray takes the stage at St. Louis Music Park with Dashboard Confessional as their special guest. If those two names together just sent you straight back to your early 2000s feelings playlist, you're not alone. It's a great double bill for fans of that era of alternative rock, over my head, heartbeat, hands down. Expect to sing along kind of night. And if you're looking for something free on Saturday, the Sounds of Summer concert series at Chesterfield Amphitheater is featuring fake news, a Huey Lewis, and the news tribute band. No tickets required, doors open in the late afternoon, and yes, you can bring your own drinks. It's a really easy, fun evening if you're on the west side of town. On Sunday afternoon, head over to Philip Lucier Park on Del Mar for the Levitt Vibe STL Come Unity concert, a free outdoor music event celebrating the cultural legacy of the Delmar Corridor. The series was created in the spirit of recovery and renewal following the 2025 tornado. And it's bringing soul, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and funk to a neighborhood that's always been one of the city's most vibrant. It's the kind of event that's worth showing up to just to be part of the community energy. If a ballgame sounds like the right move this weekend, the Cardinals are home at Bush Stadium taking on the Atlanta Braves all three days. Friday night is Yacht Rock Night, and yes, that's exactly what it sounds like. There's a pregame concert by the Yacht Rockers on the Budweiser stage, and a special theme ticket gets you a Cardinals Captain's hat. It's also Friday night live, so the party continues after the final out at Ballpark Village. It's a fun one. Saturday features a David Ekstein bobblehead giveaway, which if you were here for the 2006 World Series, you already know why that matters. It's also Disability Pride Night at the ballpark, which is a really nice acknowledgement of Disability Pride Month. And Sunday is Sesame Street Day with a kids' jersey giveaway, post-game base running for kids, 12 and under, and a special theme ticket that gets you either an Oscar the Grouch bobblehead or a Grover plush in a Cardinals jersey. Sunday is also Kids Sunday with all the usual festivities on Ford Plaza before the game. It's one of Broadway's greatest musicals set during World War II with a score that includes some enchanted evening and I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair. Performances run nightly through July 12th at 8 15. Free seats are available. And if you've never experienced a summer night at the Muni, this is a beautiful show to start with. If you're looking to stay a little more low-key this weekend, there are some really nice neighborhood options worth knowing about. Friday evening, the Magic House is hosting Grooven in the Garden, their summer concert series with live music in the front play garden, Andy's frozen custard while supplies last, and private playtime in the museum afterward. It's a great Friday evening outing for families and you don't need to make a reservation. Also in Maplewood on Friday, Let Them Eat Art is back for their annual Bastille Day celebration. It's one of the most charming neighborhood events of the summer, local artists selling work, roaming performers, live music, great food from Maplewood's restaurants, and late night shopping with retailer specials. If you haven't wandered through Maplewood on a summer evening, this is the perfect excuse. Over at Westport Plaza Friday evening, they're doing an outdoor movie night on the plaza, showing cars with face painting, snacks, and the movie starting at sunset. Bring a blanket, bring the kids, and make a night of it. And finally, if your 4th of July weekend didn't quite feel complete, the Hill is hosting their own Independence Day Fireworks show on Saturday night at Sublet Park. It's a free community event that starts at dusk, and the Hill is one of those neighborhoods that just does things right. Get there early for parking and a good spot. This one's a little outside the box, but it's worth mentioning. Saturday evening in the Grove, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is hosting their beer mile North American Classic. Yes, that's a real race. Four beers, four laps, a 400-meter course on Manchester Avenue. Open heats run in the early evening, and then the Elite Heat closes out the night with 40 to 50 of the fastest beer milers in North America competing for prize money. You absolutely do not need to race to enjoy this. The Urban Chestnut Terrace is a great spectating spot. There's a live DJ all evening, food vendors in the parking lot from Grove Favorites and an after party that goes until midnight. It's a genuinely fun spectator event and a pretty unique thing to be able to say that you've witnessed. This week's spot is a new one, Del Bono, the latest edition from Ben Paremba and the Benjamin Hospitality Group, located in the Delmar Market District. If you know Ben Paremba's restaurants, you already know the standard he holds, and Del Bono is no exception. Wood Fire Pizza is the star of the show here. What also sets it apart is the space itself. Tons of seating, a vibe that works just as well for a family dinner as it does for date night. It just opened, so now is the perfect time to get in before the bus really picks up and add Del Bono to your STL bucket list. And that's your weekend. A little more relaxed than last week, but still plenty going on around St. Louis. Get out there, catch a show, cheer on the cards, or just wander through a neighborhood that you love. That's what summer in St. Louis is all about. If you're out exploring, tag us at STL bucket list. We love seeing where you're spending your weekends. Thanks for listening. New episodes are here every week, and we'll be back next Thursday with another look at what's happening around town. Have a great weekend, everyone, and we'll see you out there.
