Beyond Names: Spirituality for Anyone and Everyone
This is a podcast for seekers, skeptics, believers, and the spiritually curious — for anyone who longs for deeper meaning, connection, and peace, whether you're rooted in a tradition or not.
Drawing from his own journey — from conservative Christianity to Islamic mysticism, through loss, healing, and awakening — Dr. Habib explores the sacred beyond doctrine and the Divine beyond names. Through soulful reflections, honest storytelling, and conversations with guests from diverse backgrounds, we open up the many ways spirituality shows up in our lives — in art, nature, social justice, relationships, and everyday experiences.
Each episode is an invitation to return to your True Self, to reconnect with Source however you understand it, and to grow in compassion, clarity, and courage. You’ll also be guided through accessible spiritual practices to help you deepen your own journey — wherever you're starting from.
If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t quite fit in traditional spiritual spaces, or if you’re simply looking for a space of heart-centered exploration — you’re in the right place.
Let’s go beyond the names — and listen for the truth that speaks to us all.

A Practice for Peace: Prayer, Breath, and the Light of the Heart
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In times of violence, hatred, and deep collective pain, many of us are asking the same question: How do we stay rooted in peace without turning away from the suffering of the world?
In this special episode, Dr. Habīb offers something different from the usual conversation—an invitation into a guided spiritual practice for peace.
Through breath, somatic grounding, and heart-centered awareness, we turn inward to reconnect with the light of the soul and the spaciousness of the spiritual heart. Together we enter a contemplative prayer for peace.
This episode is a quiet space to pause, breathe, and remember the deeper current of peace that runs beneath the turmoil of our world.
In this episode we:
• ground the body and calm the nervous system through breath,
• open the spiritual heart as a space of compassion,
• offer a prayer for peace,
• extend peace to ourselves, our communities, and all creation, and
• align inner peace with a commitment to justice.
Whether you listen as a meditation, a prayer, or simply a moment of stillness in your day, may this practice help you reconnect with the light within you and the peace that sustains all things.
May it be peace.

Transcript:
Dr. Habīb Boerger: Welcome to Beyond Names. I'm Dr. Habib. This is a space for spiritual seekers and soulful misfits, for the curious and the committed, for those grounded in a tradition, and for those who aren't sure what they believe.
Whether you call the Divine God, Yahweh, Allah, Elohim, Hashem, Brahman, Great Spirit, Higher Power, or you're still searching for language that fits, you are welcome here.
Together, we explore the intersection of spirituality and daily life, the wisdom of many traditions, and the ways we return to our true selves, to the light that each of us carry within, to our source.
I'm glad you're here. Many of us have heavy hearts.
We are living in a time when many people are perpetrating harm and spreading hate.
We’ve recently seen senseless violence at a mosque in Utah and a synagogue in Michigan.
We are living in a time when senseless violence is perpetrated by governmental authorities and hateful rhetoric is espoused by people in positions of power.
We are living in a time of genocides and mass violence across the globe --
A time of countless civilians being murdered by governments and state actors with no consequence --
A time of war crime after war crime, like murdered schoolgirls, and white phosphorous munitions fired over residential areas --
And oil depots bombed, poisoning the air, contaminating the water, and turning the sky into acid rain --
A time when residential buildings, hospitals, health clinics, water treatment plants, UNESCO heritage sites are being bombed --
A time where people are committing crimes against our planet and against humanity with impunity --
A time of falsehood, of so many lies, of so much deceit.
Given all that is happening in the world, given that so many of us are facing intense hardship, that so many of us are in distress, this episode will be different.
This episode will be a practice for peace.
I invite you to get as comfortable as you can given where you are and what you’re doing at the time you’re listening to this episode.
When you are ready, please take a deep breath and let yourself physically and energetically settle in.
Please set the intention to relax your eyes, your jaw, and your shoulders.
Please take a deep breath into your base – feeling your breath fill your back, your belly, your hips.
Take a moment to bring your awareness to the state of your body and mind.
And if you need to engage in a somatic practice to help you ground your body and settle your mind before proceeding, please feel free to press pause and do so.
Please set the intention to hold your emotional, mental, and physical experience lovingly and compassionately.
Gently bring your attention to your breath.
Allow the movement of your inhale and exhale to help you focus on your chest area.
If it helps you to elongate, excuse me, elongate your exhale to deepen your breath a few times, please do so.
Feel your chest and your belly rise and fall with your breath.
Feel your breath flow in and out -- gently and naturally.
Let the process of inhaling and exhaling be a process of settling, of traveling inward, of a deepening, of inner awakening.
Allow your attention to focus on your bodily heart and to move from your bodily heart to your spiritual heart.
Allow the busyness of the mind to rest in the spaciousness of your heart.
Allow your physical, mental, and emotional experience to rest in your heart.
And if it helps, you may want to place your hand on your heart.
And if it helps, you might visualize your energetic heart, the spiritual heart, you might visualize it as an energy that expands and unfolds and open to contain all that you’re feel and all that you’re experiencing in your physical body, in your energetic body, in your mind and your emotions and in the breadth of your soul.
Inhale, taking the energy and light of inhaling and bring it to your heart and press it into your heart, and then exhale.
Again, inhale, taking the energy and light of inhaling and press it into your heart, and then exhale.
Open your heart to the light of your soul.
Invite the light of your soul into your heart.
Inhale the light of your soul into your heart.
Exhale your heart towards the light of your soul.
Allow the energy of your energetic heart, of your spiritual heart to open, to blossom, to experience and to feel the light that is in your soul.
And allow the light of the heart and the soul to bathe your mind and body.
At this time, I’m going to offer a prayer of peace from my tradition.
If you are open to doing so, allow the sound and vibrational energy to unveil the light of peace and to fill your mind, body, heart, and soul with the light of peace.
If you prefer, simply repeat silently, “May it be peace.”
Allahumma ant-s-salam wa minka-s-salam
Wa ‘ilaya y’udu-s-salam
Tabarakta rabbana wa ta’alayta
Ya dhul-l-jalali wa-l-ikram
Beloved Lord, Beloved God, You are Peace. From You comes Peace, to You returns Peace, Give us Peace Blessed Lord, Most High, Lord of Majesty and Bounty.
While we continue to allow the light of peace to wash and till and to sustain our minds and bodies and hearts and soul, let’s also allow the light of peace for our families and for our communities.
Again, if you prefer, simply repeat silently, “May it be peace.”
Allahumma ant-s-salam wa minka-s-salam
Wa ‘ilaya y’udu-s-salam
Tabarakta rabbana wa ta’alayta
Ya dhul-l-jalali wa-l-ikram
Once more, this time allow the sound and vibrational energy to unveil the light of peace for all humanity, for all creation, for the animals, the plants, the minerals, and all creatures.
And if you prefer, please feel free to simply repeat silently, “May it be peace.”
Allahumma ant-s-salam wa minka-s-salam
Wa ‘ilaya y’udu-s-salam
Tabarakta rabbana wa ta’alayta
Ya dhul-l-jalali wa-l-ikram
May there be peace.
May we embody our commitment to peace in our commitment to purify our hearts.
May you be lifted from the narrow circles of the individual self, may your vision be widened, may your heart be opened to fill with the light of peace.
May our commitment to peace be reflected in our commitment to social justice.
May our actions in pursuit of social justice be a reflection of our commitment to peace.
Breathe in peace.
And exhale Peace.
May peace prevail in this universe and all the universes beyond.
May peace prevail on this planet, in the world of animals, the world of plants, the world of minerals, in all the worlds.
Inhale peace.
And exhale peace.
May peace prevail in the hearts of all human beings, those who were here before us, those who are here with us, and those who will come after us.
Inhale peace.
And exhale peace.
For everyone who lives in fear, for everyone who lives in pain, for everyone who lives in loneliness, for all those who live in hunger, in war, in torture, may it be peace.
For all those who have left this world and died in struggles, may their souls be at peace.
For all those who stand up in courage for justice, for love, for light,
For all those souls who fight for justice,
For all children,
For all elders,
For all parents,
For all brothers and sisters and aunties and uncles,
For all families,
For our friends,
For our neighbors,
For those near and for those far,
May it be peace.
May your heart be comforted with love and mercy.
May you find courage.
May you find trust.
May all those who have lost their way be rightly guided and may they open their hearts to be guided.
May there be peace.
For a good future,
For just societies,
For sharing wealth, knowledge, and education,
May there be peace.
May there be a home for everyone,
Food for everyone,
Clothing for everyone,
Education for everyone,
Clean water for everyone,
A good environment for everyone,
May peace prevail.
For solidarity,
For choosing the path of uniting, of tolerance, of supporting each other, of loving and respecting, may you grow, may you spread light and love and peace on this earth.
May it be peace.
May peace fill your body, mind, heart, and soul.
May peace nurture you so that you see love in all its revelations.
May peace protect you so that you are immersed in the stream of eternal Oneness.
May there be peace.
