Welcome to Seek This Jesus, a daily podcast dedicated to drawing closer to the Savior through the powerful truths found in the Book of Mormon. Each episode, we focus on one verse that helps us walk more faithfully in his footsteps. Today's verse marks a turning point in the Book of Mormon narrative. A moment of fulfillment after years of uncertainty, struggle, revelation, correction, miracles, and faith, Nephi and his family finally set foot on the promised land. After storms, disputes, hunger, danger, and divine intervention, they reached the place the Lord had been guiding them toward all along. This story has layers for us, not only historically but spiritually. Today we'll explore how their journey mirrors ours as disciples of Jesus Christ. Here is the verse Nephi eighteen twenty three. And it came to pass that after we had sailed for the space of many days, we did arrive at the promised land, and we went forth upon the land, and did pitch our tents, and we did call it the promised land. For years Lehi's family walked by faith, first into the wilderness, then through hunger and affliction, and finally across the ocean in a ship they built with the Lord's instruction. The promised land didn't appear instantly. It came after many days, and that phrase captures so much of the disciple journey. Just as Nephi did, we want to make it to our promised lands spiritually. Every one of us is on a journey towards spiritual safety, spiritual peace and spiritual fulfillment, a personal promised land, defined by increased faith in Christ, greater devotion, and deeper holiness. But the process is rarely quick. It requires time, faithfulness, daily choices, and trust that God is leading us even when the horizon only shows endless water. The promised land represents not just a destination, but the outcome of walking with God long enough to let Him shape us. God often prepares us for the promised land long before He lets us step onto its shore. In the scriptures, the idea of a promised land is always tied to covenant. God promises land to covenant keepers, not as a reward for perfection, but as a foundation for spiritual flourishing. Promised lands are always sacred spaces set apart for God's people to remember Him, worship Him, and grow in Him. President Spencer W. Kimball taught America is no ordinary country. It is a choice land, choice above all other lands. It has a tragic and bloody past, but a glorious and peaceful future if its inhabitants really learn to serve their God. It was consecrated as a land of promise to the people of the Americas, to whom God gave these great promises. President Kimbel reminds us that the Lord's promises, ancient and modern, are tied to righteousness. A promised land isn't just a place of blessing, it is a place of responsibility. A promised land flourishes when its people turn to God. Similarly, our personal spiritual promised land depends on our covenant relationship with Jesus Christ. As we keep covenants, we are guided, protected, and transformed. The Lord leads covenant keepers to places, spiritual and literal, where they can grow in Him. One truth stands out strongly in the story of Nephi's journey. The promised land wasn't the only blessing. The journey itself prepared them to live faithfully once they arrived. Think about what happened along the way. They learned to rely on the Lord for direction from the Lehona. They learned to trust His commandments even when they didn't understand them building a ship. They experienced His protection during storms. They saw miracles that reminded them He was in control. Likewise, our promised land, our spiritual destination, is not something God hands to us suddenly. He prepares us through repeated repentance, learning to hear Him, faithfully keeping commandments, trusting Him when the journey seems long, enduring storms without losing faith. These moments refine us. They develop spiritual maturity, humility, and resilience, qualities essential for sustaining the blessings God wants to give us. God does not want us to arrive. He wants us to become the type of disciples who can thrive once we are there. So what is our promised land right now? For Nephi it was a physical land prepared by God. For us, the promised land is primarily spiritual. Our promised land is a heart anchored in Jesus Christ, a home where the Spirit is present, a life aligned with covenant promises, a mind free from spiritual bondage, a relationship with God deep enough to guide us daily. Every time we choose Christ over sin, humility over pride, forgiveness over resentment, or faith over fear, we take another step toward that land. Just as Nephi did, we want to make it to our promised land spiritually. That promised land isn't a far a fantasy. It is something the Lord is guiding us toward right now. Through the Holy Ghost, through Scripture, through daily discipleship, and through small but consistent decisions, He leads us, sometimes slowly, sometimes unexpectedly, but always purposefully towards spiritual peace and safety. So here is today's challenge. Identify one area of your life where you feel in the middle of the ocean, still waiting for help, direction, or spiritual progress. Then ask the Lord this simple question What small step will help me move closer to my spiritual promised land? Write down the impression you receive. Act on it today. Promised lands are reached one faithful step at a time. Thank you for listening to Seek This Jesus. I hope this message helps you draw a little closer to the Savior Jesus Christ.
