2 Nephi 4:21 - "He hath filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my flesh."

Elder Paul E. Koelliker - "The feeling of love from our Heavenly Father is like a gravitational pull from heaven. As we remove the distractions that pull us toward the world and exercise our agency to seek Him, we open our hearts to a celestial force which draws us toward Him. Nephi described its impact as 'even unto the consuming of [his] flesh.' This same power of love caused Alma to sing a 'song of redeeming love.' It touched Mormon in such a way that he counseled us to 'pray … with all the energy of [our] heart' that we might be filled with His love. Both modern and ancient scripture are full of reminders of Heavenly Father’s eternal love for His children. I am confident that our Heavenly Father’s arms are constantly extended, ever ready to embrace each one of us and say to each one with that quiet, piercing voice, 'I love you.'”

Welcome to Seek This Jesus, a daily podcast dedicated to drawing closer to the Savior through the powerful truths found in the Book of Mormon. Each episode, we focus on one verse that helps us walk more faithfully in his footsteps. In what is often called Nephi Psalm, Nephi reflects deeply on his relationship with the Lord. He acknowledges weakness, struggle, and opposition, but he also bears witness of divine help and sustaining power. In the midst of that reflection, Nephi makes a remarkable statement about the love of God. He hath filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my flesh. As we study this verse today, along with the teachings from Elder Paul E. Koliker of the seventy, we will consider what it means to be filled with God's love and live with purpose in Jesus Christ. Nephi does not describe God's love as distant, abstract, or merely comforting. He describes it as something that fills him. The language is deliberate. To be filled implies capacity, reception, and completeness. Nephi teaches us that God's love is not passive, it acts upon us and works within us. This matters because many people think of divine love only in terms of reassurance. Nephi expands that understanding. God's love strengthens, sustains, and changes us. It reaches into the deepest parts of our being. When Nephi says he is filled even unto the consuming of my flesh, he is describing love that reaches beyond emotion and into transformation. As we consider this, we recognize that God's love is not limited by our weakness. It is not withheld because of imperfection. Instead, it meets us where we are and works to lift us beyond what we could become on our own. Application begins with recognizing that God's love is not something we earn after becoming worthy. It is something that empowers us as we seek Him. Elder Paul E. Koliker offers insight into how this love operates in our lives.

He taught The feeling of love from our Heavenly Father is like a gravitational pull from heaven. As we move the distractions that pull us towards the world and exercise our agency to seek him, we open our hearts to a celestial force which draws us to him. Nephi described its impact as even to the consuming of his flesh. This same power of love caused Alma to sing a song of redeeming love. It touched Mormon in such a way that he counseled us to pray with all the energy of our heart that we might be filled with his love. This teaching helps us understand that God's love does not merely surround us, it draws us in. Like gravity, it is always present, but its influence increases as we align ourselves with it. The responsibility placed upon us is not to create that love, but to remove the obstacles that we use to block it. Application comes as we recognize the role of agency. As we choose to seek God, turn away from distractions and open our hearts, we allow His love to exert its full influence. This helps us understand why spiritual habits matter. Not because they manufacture love, but because they place us where divine love can act upon us more fully. Nephi's statement also teaches us something about capacity. Being filled implies that something within us is enlarged. God's love does not remain external, it reshapes what we are capable of becoming. As we receive His love, we gain greater ability to love others. This is crucial because loving as God loves is beyond natural human capacity. Left to ourselves, our love is often conditional, limited, and easily exhausted. But divine love does not simply comfort us. It strengthens us to love in ways we otherwise could not. This is where Nephi's experience becomes instructive. He does not claim that his own love is sufficient. He testifies that God's love fills him. Application follows naturally. As we allow God's love to work within us, our capacity increases. We are able to love more patiently, forgive more freely and serve more willingly, not through sheer effort, but through divine influence. Recognizing this shift, our approach. Instead of focusing only on trying harder to love, we focus on seeking God more fully as we do as love works in us and through us. For us today, Nephi's words invite reflection and action. Do we believe that God's love is something that can truly fill us? Do we see it as transformative rather than merely comforting? Application begins with an honest assessment. When love feels limited toward family, neighbors, or even ourselves, we are invited not to despair, but to turn upward. God's love is not diminished by our weakness, it is designed to meet and overcome it. We apply this principle as we intentionally remove distractions that complete our hearts. As Elder Kolaker taught, when we exercise agency to seek God, we open ourselves to a celestial force that draws us toward Him. In that drawing, we are changed. Daily choices matter here. Prayer, scripture study, and quiet reflection are not tasks to complete, but openings through which divine love can flow more freely. As we place ourselves in those spaces, we make room for God's love to fill us more completely, shaping how we think, act, and love, even unto the consuming of our flesh. So here is today's challenge. Today, identify one distraction that pulls your heart away from God and intentionally set it aside. In its place, choose a simple act of seeking Him a prayer, scripture study, or quiet reflection, and allow space for His love to work within you. Thank you for listening to Seek This Jesus.
