Martin’s Story And Expertise
SPEAKER_01Really, really approachable in his field. I'd I would say if I listened to Martin and I needed a meeting with someone, LPAs, Wills, Trusts, I'd call on Martin.
SPEAKER_00Who would be your second choice? I'd go to Google. I don't know anyone else. That's what I just thought.

SPEAKER_02How he comes across on a podcast is exactly the same as I know him.

SPEAKER_02He makes the best representation of himself. There's people who are a bit nervous. There's people who agree with stuff even if they don't agree just because, well, I don't want to be like abrasive or whatever. Martin is one of those people that literally has just called it exactly as he sees it.

SPEAKER_02And he comes across how he appears on that. He's like that in everyday life, yeah. If you turn around and say, actually, I've heard him on the podcast and I don't like him, don't call him. Yeah, he's not for he's not for you. He's not for you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But if you hear someone and you go, Well, yeah, obviously he's gonna be like that because he's making a bit of an effort. No, no, no, that's just Martin.
SPEAKER_01That's Martin, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I think he's done that better than any other guest we've had.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And Martin's known in general, even when you go out networking. I've never heard a bad word about Martin.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna start spreading one. I don't know what I'm gonna do, but it's gonna be something about being an uncle. Why would you do that? Uh something to do. When if you go, no one has ever, ever, ever, ever. So when Cambridge Analytica did their stuff on behavioral targeting, they found out that if you only ever say positive things about someone, people will no longer believe the positives you say about them. Because they think that it must be like fake news and it's being rigged. Because you don't it's like if you review something, if you have 10,000 reviews and they're all reviewing five five stars exactly. You know it's fake. Oh yeah. You know it's absolutely fake. Because because you go, well, hang on a second. What no one has ever said a bad word?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, someone's paid for them.
SPEAKER_02Obviously, you're either paying for them or you're just deleting the bad ones.

SPEAKER_02So yeah, so somebody, you know. This is why I don't win anything. And so you look at five five out of five.
SPEAKER_01Look at TripAvisor.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, I I look I like to look at TripAdvisor, but un as a general overview. So I look at TripAdvisor as a general overview and go, it's 4.6. Seven people have given it one star, and seven thousand have given it five stars.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
Caring Guests And Lineup Talk
SPEAKER_02And then I'd like to And if you look at the pictures. Do you know? I I hate to say this is going to sound so classist, but I tend to read a couple of the one stars and see whether or not they're like sharing the brain cell that week. I mean, I I mean I remember saw one and and it literally was talking about, yeah, yeah, so like I give this one star because somebody climbed up our balcony and banged on the patio door drunk one night. And you go Okay, because that's the hotel's and then we ran front rang front desk, and within five minutes they had someone up to our room, but the guy had gone. Unacceptable. It disturbed our night and spoiled our entire holiday. And I'm like, shut up, and it's not the hotel's fault. Don't be an idiot.
SPEAKER_01When we went to Mauritius, all five star on our hotels, but there was one that had marked it down to like a two-star. I was reading for Because you were there. Yeah. Uh there was a spider in the room.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01Because that's the hotel's fault, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_02Obviously.
SPEAKER_01Can you make sure there's no spiders enter my room for the whole two?
SPEAKER_02Or in Mauritius.

SPEAKER_02So I think you have to take them with a pinch of top, which is why I think someone has to say something bad about mine. Just because otherwise I don't want anyone to think he's just he's he must be fake.

SPEAKER_02That would be the only bad comment you would make about someone. That sounds like 101 bad comments that Jem can make. Oh, I think they're just too nice. Or like the stuff you have to put in like a job interview.

SPEAKER_02Well, you're not. When you go to when you go to a job interview and they go, Oh, you know, what what's your negative qualities? Oh, sometimes I just care too much. Sometimes I try too hard and work too hard.

If every week, if, by the way, hypothetically, every week I said, You really pissed me off this week, you really pissed me off this week, you really pissed me off this week, it would only work for about three, four weeks until you go, Oh, if I piss you off that much, then may as well just not do this anymore. Authenticity On The Mic
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But but you just but that's the thing, you can't you can't overshare negativity, you have to create the balance. So I think to you know, that's why it's good to have our directors' meetings that by the way it's got nothing to do with mine, but I don't care. This is just we'll just carry on down this tangent. But you know, we have directors' meetings every once a week. Yeah. And it's a great chance to go, let's go and look at some KPIs and do some stuff that people would never imagine us to do because they think we just wing everything.

Yeah, it works really well. Because it just allows everyone to go, nothing gets bottled up. You can vent, you can talk about it, safe space, say what you need to say, move. Start the week fresh.
