The Fun Side Of Business - The Extra Slice
Exclusive access to premium content!Henry Tapp walks in with a handshake so powerful..
That handshake becomes the running joke of the episode. Icebreaker? Power move? Secret confidence test? Before we’ve even picked a topic, we’re already unpacking how first impressions shape everything, the energy, the tone, the unspoken “who’s this person?” maths happening in your head.
We keep things lively but set one ground rule: no political ping-pong. Henry flirts with the topic, we gently swerve, and somehow that makes the chat even better. Instead, we bounce between mental health and music obsession.
Welcome to the extra.
SPEAKER_00Can't you say welcome to? I say the you say extra, I say slice.
SPEAKER_01Well then hang on. Welcome to. That's really bad, right? It doesn't work. You just keep going, Jim. You introduce it.
SPEAKER_00No, you carry on. No, you say extra.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to do it now.
SPEAKER_00You do it all. Slice, slice, slice, slice, slice. That's the only bit we both.
SPEAKER_01That's what I was waiting for, right? It's like I thought I'll do the whole thing and go, welcome to the extra. And then we'd both go.
SPEAKER_00Sli, slice, slide, slice.
SPEAKER_01But you ruined it.
SPEAKER_00Sorry. We'll do it next time.
Enter Henry Tapp
SPEAKER_01We could edit it, but we're just not that professional. Right. I don't know how. So let's talk about Henry Tapp.
SPEAKER_00Henry.
SPEAKER_01Go on, do it.
SPEAKER_00No? Strong handshake.
SPEAKER_01Okay, what do you think of Henry?
SPEAKER_00Strong handshake. That's what you're thinking. Shake my hand. I gave him a cuddle.
SPEAKER_01Strong handshake that you didn't shake his hand. People actually He even went along to try and give me the extra handshake.
SPEAKER_00Did you shake his hand before he left?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Did he wasn't?
SPEAKER_01He he gave me the extra handshake, but it's okay because he always says to me, but you've got quite a handshake. And it's like, yeah, because I know you're coming. So you both went in with a strong He always comes with the big guns. I think he only caught me out the first time. And then ever since then, if ever I see Henry, I'm like, okay, brace, go in with the solid one. And that's why he goes, Yeah, well, you've got a really solid handshake. Yes, Henry, because I have been warned about you. That is why.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I would I've never shaken oh no.
SPEAKER_01I don't well one one day you'll find out. But yeah. They'd just look at you weirdly. Weird. Yeah. I'd look at you weirdly if you offered to shake anyone's hand. That would just be weird. Hang on, I bet you've done it at breakfast, though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, first time I don't just hug random people I don't know. But you do. I would if I could.
SPEAKER_01Literally just seen you do it in the park.
SPEAKER_00You just around the park and running. Yeah. You're such an idiot.
Hugs, Handshakes, And Social Norms
SPEAKER_01Right, anyway, Henry. We're not talking about you how many people you're hugging. It's Henry's fault for having the handshake of you know, Zeus or Thor or something.
SPEAKER_00Henry.
SPEAKER_01Thor's handshake he does.
SPEAKER_00Did you know about his political his ple b teeth back in? His political background. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but no, I don't know anything about a political cricket game. To be fair, I didn't, but the moment that he said, Oh yeah, we could talk about politics, I thought, no.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. When any of our guests say that.
Politics Is Off The Table
SPEAKER_01I feel leading off with it. If it happens to go there, I'll do it, but we're not making a point to talk politics. And then he even made a thing of kind of cringing about being lib dems, and I'm like, yeah, you're trying to enter into a politics conversation.
SPEAKER_00It's not happening on our show.
SPEAKER_01It's just not happening. This is the fun side. It didn't feel like the right scenario to do it. I'll I'll I'll argue politics or discuss politics with John Howard, but I don't know if I can do it with Henry Tapp.
SPEAKER_00No, that's him.
Assessing Henry As A Guest
SPEAKER_01So anyway, what do you think of him as a guest?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, really interesting. I I like Henry.
SPEAKER_01No, that's not a good result.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna say, oh, I love it. I'm trying to not say I love everyone. You've told me not to do that.
SPEAKER_01No, I've I've said you t you tell everyone you love him, except apparently Henry Tapp.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm trying not to.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Henry, everyone else. If you can subscribe to the extra slice and play the game of how many people Jem says, I love them.
SPEAKER_00Henry knows I love it.
SPEAKER_01All of them, except apparently Thor's handshake Henry. Okay. I respect him. I want to shake his hand.
SPEAKER_00Very interesting.
SPEAKER_01That's so bad.
SPEAKER_00Awesome. He's awesome. You say that word a lot though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you can have that one.
SPEAKER_00Okay, he's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Okay, good.
SPEAKER_00There you go.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00What do you think of Henry?
SPEAKER_01I really like him. I always like him when I meet him. Yeah. He always seems to have I think he's got so many sides to him. So it's nice to be able to have a conversation about music or nice to have a conversation about something. He's very genuine. Yeah, it d it doesn't have to always be, you know, he's he's not monofocused on, you know, oh well, I work in mental health, so let me talk about mental health.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01He he he's got so he's got so many different sides to him. So yeah, I I think I think Henry's one of those people that you could happily sit and go, I don't care if we're going out and having a few beers or drinking coffee and just chatting. Going to a rock concert. Or going to a rock concert.
Rock Talk And Iron Maiden Mix-Up
SPEAKER_00He would be all over the country. Honestly, not being funny.
SPEAKER_01I mean I could have sat there and spoke to him about Led Zeppelin and you know. Yeah, did you know how Cryo was doing that part? Well, I knew you didn't have a clue what we're talking about.
SPEAKER_00I've heard of Led Zeppelin and I know Metallica, but I don't know about the others. I'd never heard of Iron.
SPEAKER_01I love that.
SPEAKER_00Iron people? Iron Who?
SPEAKER_01Oh no. Sorry, Henry.
SPEAKER_00Iron Man?
SPEAKER_01Yep, Iron Man.
SPEAKER_00Iron Man.
SPEAKER_01Correct.
SPEAKER_00No, Iron Man's what they do when they run.
SPEAKER_01That's right, that's the name of the band.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. That's not that doesn't sound right at all. You're a dick. I'm gonna go run around saying I listen to Iron Man. Guess what? Yeah, I've been listening to Iron Man.
SPEAKER_01Iron Maiden.
SPEAKER_00Maiden. There we go. Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_01Named after a torture device that used to happen. It's quite cruel. It's like you know, like you see the sarcophaguses and stuff in Egypt where they put like a body in and it closes shut. Oh yeah. Imagine that put with spikes on the inside.
SPEAKER_00No, is that what that is? Is that what that's Iron Maiden? Oh, yes, that's not my kind of thing or my kind of music.
SPEAKER_01So they're going out on stage. We're going to sacrifice someone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it doesn't work like that.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, so Henry, come on then, give him a score.
SPEAKER_00Oh what we just do an out of ten.
SPEAKER_01Well I mean I'll tell you what, why don't you do it out on the tax law?
SPEAKER_00Nine.
SPEAKER_01Ducky you straight in there.
SPEAKER_00Nine out of ten.
SPEAKER_01Any decimals, nine point zero?
SPEAKER_00No, nine. Just a nine. A strong nine like his handshake.
SPEAKER_01I want to see how many this his handshake is a ten.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Not like his handshake. You've never shaken hands with Henry Tapp if you're scoring him a nine like his handshake.
SPEAKER_00Nine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, his handshake a ten. I think as a guest, I'm giving him a nine point two. I think he's fascinating. I think he's genuinely a good guest, very fascinating. But I'm scoring him down because it was like a borderline. Let's talk about politics. And I don't really want to talk about politics.
SPEAKER_00I think you don't like politics.
SPEAKER_01I mean I no, I love politics. I just think yeah, people are too opinionated, and I think everyone is always looking for confirmational bias.
SPEAKER_00I think politics, religion, just leave leave it be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, yeah, but I also have the Rowan Atkinson theory that says people should be free to talk about this stuff.
SPEAKER_00No, I 100% think they should be free.
SPEAKER_01I think talk, but not preach.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And let everyone have their views and respect them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Done. Right, there we go. Thank you for that. Henry, an overall score. 18.2 out of 20. That is pretty good. That's a strong score. Especially when most other people have got ham and pineapple and pepperoni medium. And and and the outcome is you've got something with olives. Yeah. So he gets 18.2. That is a good score.
SPEAKER_00That is a good score.
SPEAKER_01And that will also help if we do this with the other ones. When we get to our guest of the year at the end of the year, we can then just have scores.
SPEAKER_00We'll do that.
SPEAKER_01So they go league table. Henry is currently top with 18.2.
SPEAKER_00Because he's the only one with done.
SPEAKER_01Because he's the only one with well, everyone else has scored in pizza slices and how many bits of pepperoni they've got. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. What up, Henry? Thanks.
SPEAKER_01Cheers.
