Today we discuss fall favorites and a few life updates!!!
Hi ladies, I hope that y'all are having a great Tuesday so far. I kind of wanted to just jump on and talk about fall. So it is September 1st, which in many households is the beginning of fall. So from September to November is the beginning of fall, and even a lot of people into November because they are bah humbug and don't like to set up any Christmas things till after Thanksgiving. But I do love Thanksgiving. Um I kind of have a unpopular opinion about fall, and instead I don't love it. I don't love it. I put this on the mom's group and I was definitely in the minority, but I think I kind of pinpointed why, and it's because I live in Texas and it doesn't get below 95 until the end of September. It does not really cool off until at least Halloween, sometimes even after that. Like there have been some years that even Christmas and Thanksgiving was very, very hot in the 80s. So it just does not feel like fall. Nothing feels crisp. There's no leaves crunching, no leaves changing colors, no apple cider donuts, no festivals, nothing like that. That just screams fall. But I think if I did have those things, then I would enjoy it a lot more. Like I really, really want to do a road trip through like Boston and Vermont and up to Maine. My parents did that road trip last year in October, and they said it was absolutely incredible. So I definitely want to do that. And maybe I've never experienced a true fall. One time we went to Arkansas during the fall, and it was like so stunning. But I know that they say Vermont and places like that are even more stunning. So I do want to do that at some point. But for me, fall is just eh. Like it's just something that I have to get through to look forward to Christmas. But there are some aspects that I really like, okay? So I love fall scents. I love all the vanillas and cinnamons and even pumpkin scents and uh apple scents and those type of things. I love like apple pie, apple cobbler, peach cobbler, those type of really um really decadent desserts that scream fall. I do love those. Um I love, I love, I love sweaters. So I know that it doesn't start always cooling off here, but occasionally toward the end of fall, it will start getting a little bit crispier, and I can put on a light sweater, and I do love like a pullover cardigan or a cute chunky sweater, something like that. We don't get to wear them very often here, so when I do, I get really excited. So those are just a few things. I do like going to the pumpkin patch with my kids. There have been a few years where we obviously you have to schedule to go. We both work, so there have been a few years that the Saturday that we scheduled to go was just like painfully hot. Like last year it was like 90 degrees, so it did not feel very pumpkin-ish, but it was still really fun. So I'm hoping this year we can schedule it out a little bit later in October so that we can get like the um the true pumpkin patch experience. There's a really cute one here that has like a bunch of animals and like a uh tractor ride and a big like jumping area for the kids. It's like a big bubble. I've never really seen anything like it, but it was really cool. It wasn't like a bounce house, it was like I don't know. I don't know what it was, but it was really cool. And then they did like pumpkin uh there was like a pumpkin cannon, like all kinds of really fun stuff, and we really enjoyed that one. It was like smaller, the really big ones I feel like are so expensive, and then you're just paying for like fair rides and stuff, and I don't love that. So I like going to the more quaint ones where you can pick out a cute pumpkin, get some cute pictures, but it's not overwhelming, you know. Before I get more into fall, I I wanted to give some life updates. So the biggest thing is I'm going back to work next week, so and I actually got a new job, um, in addition to my old one. So I'm gonna be working both at two different firms. Um, and I'm really excited about that. I'm excited about jumping back into mental health care. As you know, I took a break uh uh in April. I started a break, and then I am just now going back because of having the baby, and just you know, some hormones needed to settle, some things I needed to really start prioritizing my mental health, and um I feel like I have come through that season beautifully and really proud of myself for advocating for the help that I needed in that season. So I am going back to work. I'm very excited, excited just about every aspect of going back. Um, the money, of course, but then also just I feel like it's one of my truest callings. But during this season, I definitely wanted to contribute to my family, so I started selling on whatnot. I'm sure if you are friends with me on social media, you have seen that. So I uh started selling on there and I absolutely adore it. I actually got my business license this last week and my reseller license, so eventually I might do wholesale, but I don't know. Um, I love the thrifting, but regardless, I have my seller's license, so you know I'm making quite a bit of money and I want to um, you know, make it into a business, a side hustle, whatever it might be. Right now I'm actually making quite a bit on there, so I would think it's a little bit more than a side hustle, but I I love it so much. I love finding good kids' clothes. I love it, it feels like a scavenger hunt to me. So check out my whatnot. I have a boys' show today, the day this podcast goes up, and it's amazing. It's an all-boys show, like it's so good, it's so good. Like you can't, I can't even like describe to you how good it is. But uh, so check that out, and then I have a holiday show coming up and a clearance show, and I'll probably and a modest show, so I'll probably add some more um to to that docket, but uh that's another update, and then another huge one is that our wonderful chapel has been experiencing an unprecedented season of growth, which I am so so excited about. Our sanctuary only fits about 50 or 55 people in it, and like la this I'm recording this on a Monday, so the previous Sunday um we had about 45. So there was very little room for anyone else. We had tons of kids in the Sunday school. There was not a parking place that wasn't filled, so we feel very blessed and thankful for the growth that has we have been experiencing, but it does create a bit of a space problem. So we have purchased a new building and it is quite large. It seats about 250 to 300. It's an amazing older building, needs some renovations, but it's gorgeous, has really, really high ceilings, like everything I've ever wanted in a church, honestly. Um, it has not been updated since the 70s, since when it was started. So there's shag carpet and those types of things. We are keeping some of the original aspects just because you want to do honor to the building. Um, and that's really important to me, just no matter what you're building, to do honor to the building. But there are obviously some updates that we have to make and that we want to make to make it first of all uh compliant with um all of the standards of the state and the city, and then also just to make it a little bit more aesthetic because there's a lot of peeling paint. We want to put some tile in where some old carpet is, just things like that that have to be done. An air conditioner unit needs replaced. So there is some work ahead, but we are so excited about what God's doing. Our church is so excited, and I'm sure that you'll see something about that on uh social media this week. But yeah, it's been a whirlwind. We had another building that we really, really liked. And so, like I said, we only seed about 55 to 60. Well, that building seated about a hundred, and so we were so excited and we were gonna get it, and then there were just some sketchy things, so we backed out of our offer um within the time frame, of course. And um, and you know, that was just God's will. I remember so we were in the process of doing this whenever we um had Daisy, and I remember I was just praying and praying for Daisy, actually, like praying that you know God would heal her and touch her, and um, and then God just laid on my heart, like, you need to get back out of this building, like you're being stubborn. And I felt like I was because I wanted out of our current building so badly because it was so packed, it's a little bit uncomfortable. There's only one bathroom, only one Sunday school room, like it's really difficult. So I and then the Lord told me this, and that was a really hard thing to hear, but he had so much more waiting just around the corner. I didn't have to hold out long, you know. But sometimes we do have to hold out long, sometimes we really do. But this time we did not. Um, and the Lord had something so much better and so much more beautiful that would fit our needs and our growth goals like so much better. Because 100 is not that far from what we had yesterday. Like, so we potentially would have gotten in this building and then just in a few months filled it up, which praise, praise be to God, you know, for all of the growth that we're experiencing, but also, you know, that is not what he had for us. And um, so yeah, there it's been an amazing and amazing season there. And then we just have some personal updates, like it feels like everything is happening all at once in a very, very good way, and everything is really aligning, and I always feel like, you know, I am fulfilling God's will when that happens. When things are hard and I have to push for them to happen, that is usually not God's will. But there's one thing in particular that I wanted so bad in a different season of my life, and then God gave me a lot of peace about it. God really healed some bitterness in my heart about it, and then recently that thing has come back around and it has been much easier this time. And um, you know, I think the Lord just kind of wanted to heal my heart and fix my attitude before he gave me that thing that I wanted so badly. And now it's like I'm so thankful for it, but it it doesn't dictate my worth or anything like that. So I'm really grateful for for all of the changes that the Lord is doing. I'm really grateful for all of the changes that are happening in our family. My husband was off for 12 weeks and now he is back at work. So uh that is a change, a little bit of a difficult change, especially for our son. He's three, and he got very used to having daddy home um as he shouldn't. They're their best little butts. But yeah, those are kind of all of our life updates. My daughter's doing really well. She just she just had her um just had her three-month little birthday, I guess is how you call it. But she is growing well, she's getting so chunky, which I just love. She's eating well. She had a cold uh two weeks ago. I took her to the ER with a cold and uh she had a rhinovirus, which is always really scary in little babies. She was wheezing and stuff, and she still has a few remnants of that, but she's not having retraction, she doesn't have fever or anything like that. So she's out of the woods, she just has that little lingering cough, which I feel so bad for her about. But she's doing really well, starting to smile a lot. Make eye contact loves her big brother, big brother loves her, you know. Sometimes it gets a little bit too hyper around her, so he's still learning, hey, she's super fragile. Like that's that's just a lesson, you know, that little kids have to learn. He's never really been around babies before. So he's still learning that, oh, I can't play with her like I play with my friend, you know. And um, but he does love her so much. And he'll always ask me cute little questions like, uh, when's she gonna talk? Does she know her name? And then yesterday, you know, he does get aggravated at her sometimes because they're still siblings, and I mean, she's getting a lot of the attention that he used to get. And yesterday he was like, Can we open that little door in mommy's tummy and put baby Daisy back in in a moment when he was aggravated with her? And it was so funny and so cute. But but yeah, let's get back to fall. I posted a reel a few, maybe over a week ago now, and it was about fall fashion trends, and um, none of them were. I think another reason I don't love fall is because it's so orange, and I do not like the color orange, but I do like the other colors that are kind of associated with it, the like greens and blues. I'm sorry, my daughter is getting agitated, so I'm just gonna pick her up really quickly. I've got to put the mic down.
SPEAKER_01So, um Daisy holding a soda. Can you hear me? Hello?
SPEAKER_00Can you hear me? Okay. Like I like someone's gonna answer. That my daughter's been sleeping through the night for about a week now, literally, my son still doesn't sleep eight hours and he's three years old. He'll still wake up really often, but getting back to phone fall technical difficulties. Are we back on? There we go.
SPEAKER_01Hello. Hello? There we go.
SPEAKER_00Okay, back to fall fashion gens. Um I'm loving the color red, loving the color red, um, I'm loving feathers, wool, tweed, anything texture-ish. I'm loving the fet big feather brooches, loving fur, um, anything like that, loving like really loud sweaters, like really colorful and really beautiful, loud wool sweaters. Sweaters with printed sheep on them, that kind of stuff too, is just incredible. Um, and then I'm also loving anything upcycled. So I think that's like my newest obsession. So if it was something else and then it became something new, like a quilt that became a dress or ties that became a skirt. I posted some photos on my Instagram of things like that. I have recently been really into like overalls where they cut off the overall and then make the bottom out of fabric, like so cute, so chic, like just out of this world, perfect for fall. Anything patchwork, anything that looks like it's just pieced together, just gives that fall vibe, you know. And I really, I really, really love it. I'm liking upcycled t-shirts, where it's just like a cute t-shirt that even you could get from Target that maybe like says Diet Coke or something, and then putting patch sewing patches or ironing patches on that are of like Diet Coke or something that matches it, or a character or something like that. Like it's so, so stinking cute to me. So, yeah, those are just a few. I think I posted a few more um suede, of course, but they fall fashion trends are so fun because it's like the transition into winter. I think that's why they're so fun. I feel the same way about spring. It's like those transitional piece pieces. Like in summer, I'm not looking that cute because it's so hot. But in spring, I'm able to wear the sandals, but then also kind of put more thought into my outfit because I'm not worried about just being cool. I'm worried about how the outfit looks in a more summery way. And I get that people that don't live in Texas might not understand this because if you live somewhere where it doesn't get above 80 or 85 all year, then yeah, you can dress with like maybe a small cardigan in the summer, but here that is just not happening. You're dressing as light as you can. Yesterday was like 108, like it's just ridiculous. So, so yeah, and that applies to dressing my kids too. As you know, I am obsessed with dressing my kids, obsessed with dressing my kids, like out of this world, obsessed. And so, um, it applies to them too. Like my son, I'm not putting long pants on him, my daughter, I'm not layering stuff, like it just is what it is. So, so it really does limit your style a little bit, and I feel like fall is that transition where hey, it is it might still be hot, but it's not 108, it's more like 8590, or you know, and then as it gets a little bit later, we might get into 75 or 80, which for here is amazing. Like, that's perfect weather to me. 75 is the perfect, perfect, perfect weather. So, for some people that is still hot, and I do not get that. Like, that is perfect weather for me. So, so yeah, I asked on my mom's group like some things that people liked about fall, and a lot of them were like your normal stuff, the stuff that I like pumpkin patches, uh, cooler weather. Um, I even love the pumpkin cream cold brew from Starbucks. I don't like a pumpkin spice latte, and I don't usually like a lot of pumpkin stuff, but I do like their pumpkin bread. I love my grandma's pumpkin bread, but I love their pumpkin bread and I love their pumpkin cream cold brew. They're both so good. So, so good. Um, but yeah, so let's let's get into some of these. They said cool cooler weather, of course, rainy, cloudy days, and I didn't even think of that one, but you do get more rainy, cloudy days, and that's my favorite weather. A rainy day is my favorite day. Opening, like leaving the opening the door and leaving the screen door closed, just at my house, it's just so pretty. You can hear the water like hitting our koi pond. I just love a rainy day, a gloomy, rainy, rainy day, not necessarily a thunderstorm, but just where it's just drizzling outside. First of all, it makes it a little bit cooler, but that's just like my favorite type of weather. Pasole season. So for uh, my husband is Mexican, so whenever it gets fall, I don't know how to make any of those, but I need to learn, honestly. But he loves menudo, he loves pasole, so we're always going to restaurants that have those. Um, and I do need to learn to make them because I think posole in particular is not that difficult. So that is gonna be one of my goals this year. Football season, yes, I don't have anyone to go watch football for, but when we were youth pastors in um in the church, some of the boys would play football and we would go watch them, and it was just like the high school football game in Texas is just something to be like studied. It's incredible. Friday night lights are just so much fun. So yes, I could agree with that one. Uh Halloween, carving pumpkins and spooky stuff. I'm not a huge fan of the spooky stuff, do love carving pumpkins, do love painting pumpkins, and I do like, you know, dressing my kids up and taking them trick-or-treating. Uh, to me, that's not a celebration of Halloween, that's a family fun event. That's how I view it. But we uh, you know, I'm already thinking about what I'm gonna put Daisy in this year for her first trick-or-treating experience, and I think I might do make her into like cotton candy or uh something really cute and girly. I know I definitely want that. I don't think there's an incorporate, you know, the things that he loves. We can make like a family costume around the things that he loves, and then eventually Daisy, and they might have to, you know, I don't know. But eventually it's gonna be where she has a real big opinion and he has a real big opinion, and I'm not going against either one of them. Like they can be what they want. So I'm just not that mom. It says this Texas State Fair. We went last year, and it is fun. It's so expensive, so I doubt we will go again this year, and it was so painfully hot last year. The weather does not cool down here that much uh by that season. Like it was like October 1st, and it was still so hot. Like I was sweating. It was so bad.
SPEAKER_01Um somebody said that the burger.
SPEAKER_00So I would agree with that one, and I also love that one. Somebody said gumbo, and that is one that I forgot, but I love, adore making a pot of gumbo. Whenever we had a freeze here last year, we had like a three-day freeze and it was pretty intense, honestly. You couldn't really get out of your house. But I made this huge pot of gumbo and it was so, so good. Um, and then they said all the fall foods and drinks. I agree but disagree. I like certain ones and I don't like certain ones. I don't like a cinnamon roll, and I feel like that's a big one for fall. Uh sweaters, boots, yes, love boots. Even though here in Houston we barely get to wear them. Yeah, that's true too. We live in Dallas, but it is still hot. Houston is hotter though. Uh, drink any all the pumpkin treats, decorate my house. Yeah, I do like decorating my house. I just don't love a lot of the bright orange stuff. I don't mind a muted orange. I don't mind a vintage orange. I don't mind any of that. I just don't like that really bright orange that is so popular with fall. I don't love that. Somebody said fall festivals. That's something that people do have here, but they're not as enjoyable because it's so So the pumpkin patch, everything's just cozier. We are getting cosier even.
SPEAKER_01I do get excited over a juicy baby with rolls. Oh, she misread me.
SPEAKER_00That's a big one. So my toddler has not been able to go outside for very long the last few months because it's so hot. I'm worried about his skin. I'm worried about him getting overheated. And so maybe 15 or 20 minutes at a time, I'm excited for him to be able to stay an hour or two hours outside. It's so good for mental health. It's so good for and like if it's 95, I'm fine with him being out there. It's just 108. You just can't keep him out there for very long. Like it's dangerous. So um, and even with just being out there like that short amount of time, he's already so tan. I'm so tan, just from and we're not even outside that much. We're not going to water parks or anything. We're just walking around, going in stores, going in Walmart, like doing that kind of stuff. So I agree with that one too. The colorful leaves, we unfortunately don't have that, but I would be excited. I would be excited about that. Uh, you can throw on boots and a sweater and not even comb hair and look put together while being so comfy. That is true. It is easier to put less time into your outfit because a cute chunky sweater, a pencil skirt, and some boots, like you're never gonna go wrong with that. Even for church, like a cute sweater, cute skirt, and boots, like you're not you don't have to think about like so many different aspects. Anything pumpkin, soup, gumbo, fires, roasting s'mores, that's a big one. I love s'mores. I love roasting s'mores. But for uh for me, that's not really fall, that's more like Christmas because it doesn't get hot enough or cold enough to have a fire until then. Thanksgiving and time with family, yeah. Love Thanksgiving. The older I get, the more I love Thanksgiving. And I think that that's really common with uh with people that have children because it's like just such a time to reflect. I'm always so overwhelmed. Y'all hear that, siren in the background? I'm we live right by a fire station, but I'm always so overwhelmed with like gratefulness and thankfulness on that day for all that the Lord has given and all that he um the promise of you know heaven, like just everything I'm just filled with so much thankfulness for and very thankful to live in America, which you know some people might disagree with that perspective, but I am so so thankful to live in America. Apple cider. I do like apple cider. My grandma's always made it on Christmas, and she puts red hots in it, and it's so good. Chili, love a homemade chili with onions, cheese, all the things. Um, cozy outdoor gatherings. Yep. We don't have much of those here until more like Christmas time, but yeah, I do like it. Aesthetic of fall. That's one I don't agree with. I that I think that's part of what puts me off, is I don't like all the baked leaves and all of that just orangey stuff. Um I and then she said I'm a soft autumn, so I get so many compliments when I wear muted fall colors, and I feel best when fall uh comes around. I'm also more of a fall winter with my clothing and my color analysis. I need to do an episode on color analysis, but bonfires and gumbo, sweaters, gumbo, a lot of these are the same. Crisp mornings, cot crock pot soups, that's a new one, and I love that one. Pumpkin chai, pumpkin patch, um, decorating, fashion walk. Someone said they live in the rice capital of Texas, and that sounds really cool. Everything shifts, that is true. We have the promise of cooler weather, you know, it just feels like there's something crisp in the air. Like, so I do agree with all of those. And maybe I'm just being like a fall hater for no reason, but yeah, uh it's just how I feel. But I'm glad I got to hop on. It's gonna be a really short episode today, but hopefully I'll be able to be more consistent. I know I say that every time, but I really want to do um maybe a guest or something that is more um researched in the coming days. Maybe that color analysis again would be a great one to do more of. So thank you all so much for listening. I hope that y'all have an absolutely amazing Tuesday and bye.
