SHOW REHEARSAL: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Dancing Diaries. It's Amelie and here I'm here with Karen. And today we are gonna run through what rehearsals like for people that are maybe new to the studio or and for people that have been here for just to go over it.

So yeah, it's it's been an I don't know if we've ever actually done a podcast on just the rehearsal day. No, like the show that we do it on. Yeah, yeah. Um so our rehearsal this year is Sunday, the 17th of May, and it's in the Whitehill Neighbourhood Centre, which is 9 Hunter Road, Hamilton. Um this will all be in an email as well. Um if you look back, you should have it. Um so our first group of the day is all um Bottle and all Bears Dense apart from preschool. Yeah, preschool aren't needed at any rehearsal for the shows. So they all arrive at 10am. So it's 10 to 1 for them. Um complete run through of the show, obviously apart from preschool. Let's sort of see props and all that sort of stuff and build the kids' confidence before going on stage.

Anything is needed and changed. It also gives like them the chance to like use the whole space because like yeah, compared to like Balvo Buzz Bend Bears in, obviously the stage is much bigger than all the space, so it gives them the chance to like see what it'd be like and dance in an unfamiliar space rather than sort of what you feel comfortable with.

Um yeah, I know there's quite a lot of new students in that group, um, and then we have two o'clock till five o'clock for our Busby students, but boys can get picked up at half past four. Yeah. Um, and the P5 Plus stay on till six o'clock.

Um, just so that they can get a chance to clean stuff and go over anything or like tricks and that they've got a bit more space.

Because there's a lot, there's a lot of them. P5 plus another, like there's not a lot of them.

They they are very, very busy classes, so it's good to give them a little bit more time. Yeah. Um and go over bits and bobs that need done. Um for the actual rehearsal, parents are not required to stay. Yeah, um, it's so much easier if you can just pack your child, little snack we pick lunch, but nothing with nuts.

Um it also gives you a chance, like, so it's a surprise for the show. Like you're not seeing it until you don't want any leaks going on.

Yeah. Um yeah, I think obviously like some people are travelling further afield than others. So if it's possible to car share and you're maybe only doing one journey, great, or you know, meet up with your friends and all of these come and drop your kids off, and then there's plenty of places about for coffees and lunch and stuff. Yeah. Um yeah, um, I think that's it. Well, obviously, I'll be registered, so it might take away five minutes to get your child signed in. Yeah, so we do really appreciate your patience. Um, but it is the safest way to make sure that everybody is accounted for and we know who's coming with who and all that sort of stuff.

Yeah. Um I just I love the rehearsal because it's like the first time that we'll just you fully get to see everything that we've worked on from Christmas until now. Um, and like you get a full run through, and it um it actually makes me excited for like the show. I get excited.

Yeah, it it gives us this like little buzz, doesn't it? And I think rehearsal days always so sunny. I don't know who is to like the doors, the fire doors being open, all the kids are like sweating, but like in the best way, like they're standing outside getting a bit of fresh air, like it's just it's good vibes that day.

Yeah, they also all the kids get to see the other dances because I was at the show, unless you're at the side of the stage. Yeah, you don't really ever you get they all get to see the other dances of like their friends or like the younger ones or the older ones.

Yeah, I do love when the younger ones watch older ones and they're like gasping and like they're like tapping each other to like point out what's going on. Yeah, exactly. So honestly, so cute. Um but yeah, I think just good vibes, plenty of water, lots of snacks, because all we hear is I'm hungry and I've eat all my snacks. Um parents will know what that's like once they're gonna feed. Um but yeah, just I know it's hard to drop off and pick up sometimes, especially in an unfamiliar space if your child's not settled, but we have done so many days since like forever. Yeah, I want to say this is our 11th armadillo pool, and we obviously missed two because of COVID. Yeah, um, so we've done lots of these rehearsals, and we've had lots of children a little bit nervous and upset at drop-off, but give it five minutes when they're in with their friends, and they're having their snack, the music's on, they're totally fine.

Yeah, they're distracted from them.

And it gives you, you know, what's that, a good few hours, three hours to just sit in silence if you want, like dark room, no judgment here. Um, yeah, full uniform is required for the rehearsal as well. Hair up, nice and neat out the face. Make sure you all have all your shoes. Yeah, please put your names on everything because obviously, with the full school rehearsal and the bears being in bottle together, we might have some mix-ups.

So if your child's name's on everything, then that is that's like the that's one of the main things that we can recommend is just name absolutely everything.

See, they be sticky labels that you can buy that you stick on because obviously jazz shoes and stuff are black, so you can't really they're so handy, um, and it makes getting everything back to your pre-show so much easier. Um so they can be tricky without names. Um but yeah, I think that's it. Names on everything, lots of snacks, plenty of water, good vibes. We all do the rest, and so will the kids, I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's everything. Um, everything will be in an email anyway. So if you're a little bit unsure, you can have a research up for the rehearsal email or just talk to when I visit class. Yeah, yeah, we're all we're all ears for any questions that you might have.
