Welcome to the Baba Gow podcast, and I'm Miguel Amber. I'm just a Proverbs 31 woman, empowering women to step into their on-the-fire for the Lord mentality.
SPEAKER_01I encourage us to live out our faith, to grow, and to believe in the calling that God has for us. My vision is to help women break the chains of their past of inner struggles and fears to create new chapters that only our Father can write for us. I'm on a mission and passion to empower you and all the women out there. This is going to be your new favorite podcast for daily devotionals and Bible study chats. Hey guys, welcome back to episode 35 of the podcast. Today I wanted to get into like praying over scripture and praying with scripture and declaring what um God has to say and declaring his word um over our families and our lives and um yeah. So before I get started, I always want to start us out in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, I lift up every single listener to you, Father. I pray that you open their hearts and you open their minds, that you fill them up with your Holy Spirit, that they hear your voice today, Father, that they um that they hear something that wants to make them change today, Father, that they hear your word and that they remember your word for wherever they go for the rest of their day, Father, that they will remember your word. Um, and that they um are encouraged to uh make a change and to be the light in somebody's life and uh to pray for somebody and I just pray that over them and I um pray over their protection wherever they are, whether they're driving or whether at their um at somewhere else somewhere not that's not their home or their home, Father. I just pray protection over them and I intercede on their behalf and I apply the blood of Jesus over them and protect them and that you will protect them and um just rebuke the any demonic attack that that tries to come their way and feed them with fear or doubt or pain or anxiety or depression or stress, Father. We just rebuke all of that in the name of Jesus and we ask that your holy presence your Holy Spirit fills our presence. Feels yep, okay, amen. Okay. Obviously, I am starting out and I am like trooping over my words. Um, so this episode is not going to be super long, um, but I really wanted to first kind of dive into um how to pray scripture. And so I would say that um I went to a women's encounter at my church. Um they did like a women's night, and they really spoke about this, and this has completely changed my life on um definitely how I pray. Um, because like yes, uh it is absolutely still important and effective to um, you know, to just talk to the Lord and to pray over people and and to say things like, you know, I pray for so and so and for their salvation and you know, for their protection and all that good stuff. Um, but it is even more so powerful when we use God's word um and we kind of declare and pray um using God's word. And so basically what I'm going to do here is I am going to um give you guys a snapshot and some examples of um scripture that I pray and and how I pray it. Um and um gonna kind of mock it up and we'll kind of pray together um over um yeah, over our family. So I want to start by encouraging you um to make a prayer journal. This is something my church had all of us women do one night back in January, and I will say it has been like my second Bible. I use it every morning. Um, it's been super helpful, and this is just how I do it. This is definitely not something that like has, you know, it's not like in the Bible how to make a prayer journal, right? Um, but this is how I do it and what works for me and what has helped me um to be for more familiar with um praying over the scripture because definitely it comes with practice, it comes with doing, um, and it comes um, you know, retaining the word and retaining and remembering verses definitely also comes with speaking it um and remembering it and seeing it. So um I do every single month I pick a different scripture to pray over my husband and to pray over my daughter. Um, so first I want to give you an example. I'm going to, I'm just gonna read off like the first few that I do for my husband. Um like I said, I do one a month, so I just I pick 12 verses um and then I declare them and pray that over him every single day for that month, and then the next month goes into the next one that I have written. This is not how you have to do it. This is just something that I do. I also do um like if I'm praying for somebody, like for example, uh this morning was our first day back at school, like where the kids actually came back, and so I called up a few of my coworkers and um I prayed over them before the day got started, and as I was praying over them, I was prophesying and speaking and declaring God's word over them. And so you can do it in a situation like that, or you can um, you know, practice it and kind of profit, you know, and declare and prophesy it over um your family or over your friends every morning. It's completely up to you. Um, there's different ways to do it. You can do it based off of you know what you're praying for, um, you know, like whether you're praying um over gossiping or whether it's fear in your finances, whether you're battling negativity, anxiety, right. Like there are so many scriptures that you can pray. Um, so I'm gonna get started, and I'm gonna start by um Deuteronomy chapter 28, verse 12 says this the Lord will open for you his abundant storehouse, the sky, to give your land rain in its season, and to bless all the work of your hands. You will need to lend to many you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. And so I um basically what you do is you speak the verse and you speak the word over the person you're praying for, and you kind of alter it, alter what you're saying so that it is um it's personal, right? So, for example, I pray um that God will bless the work of my husband's hands. And so, you know, um I will say, you know, dear Lord, open um as you open for Robert your abundant storehouse, uh, that you will give him the land that um you know, you will give him the land in each season, that you will bless his work, um, and you will bless all his hand that you will bless his hands and all his work, and that he will lend to many nations. Um, and so that's kind of how you do it. Um I will um keep going. And so in February I um chose Colossians chapter 3, verse 23. This says, Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people. And so I would pray this over him, and I would pray that Robert would do work for the Lord and that he um would have the heart of the Lord. And so I would say, Um, you know, dear father, whatever Robert does, that's my husband's name, whatever Robert does, let it be done from his heart, let it be done from his heart that he wants to do it for you, that he's doing it for you, Lord, and not for the world, and not for his flesh, and not for other people, but that he's doing it with you on his mind. Um, and you know, so that's just another example there. Um, I will continue to go through um some. I'm gonna continue to go through some scriptures, but I'm gonna kind of shift a little bit now, and I kind of want to give you some examples on my daughter. Um, and you know, so I will be really honest and say that I Googled a lot of these verses, and kind of what I would do is I would say, you know, especially when I was trying to get started, I would say scripture to pray over your husband, or scripture to pray over your mom, or scripture to pray over whoever. And um as I started to do it, and as I started to become more familiar with it over time, I didn't have to, you know, over time I didn't have to go looking for verses for what I was looking for. You know, the more that I was doing it, the more I got used to it, the more that I kind of knew where in the word I was looking for. Um so one of my daughters was Numbers. This is also a super famous verse, by the way, that you can pray over many people. This doesn't have to be prayed over just your children. This verse, I will say, is probably my go-to verse to pray over people. Um, which is Numbers chapter six, verses twenty-four through twenty-six, and the verse says this May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace. And so, you know, I would speak that over my daughter, and I would say, you know, Lord, please bless Aubrey and protect her. You know, that you will, please, Lord, shine your face upon her, be gracious to her, Lord, that you will have favor on her, and that you will give her peace. And I ask that you will bless her and that you will give her a heart to follow you. Um, and so basically, you just kind of recite the verse, but you make it personal, you put that person's name in there. You are speaking God's word over that person. Um, and that is so powerful, and I really encourage you, especially when you do it every single day, if you, you know, think about it like you are declaring God's word over your family every single day. You are interceding on their behalf. You are, you know, kind of coming before, you know, the world and coming before the devil before they can even get to your child or get to your mom or get to your husband or get to your spouse or get to your aunt or whoever it is, you know, whether it's somebody you're praying for to bring to salvation, whether it's just your family, maybe somebody's sick in your family, maybe your dad's sick, uh, maybe you're praying for friends, um, maybe you have a friend who's pregnant, right? Whatever the case is, whoever you're praying for, if you are praying God's word over them every single day, every single morning, I definitely encourage you, especially in the morning, every single morning, every day, you're you're praying and you're declaring God's word. And as we know, God's word has power. God's word is alive, and God's word is breathing right now, and it continues to breathe. We can read that book from start to finish. I think I've seen this on Instagram or something. I don't know. I seen it somewhere. It was basically like the Bible is like the only book that you can read, you can start but never finish. Because even if you even if you do like read the Bible in a year, and you do from Genesis to Revelation, uh every time you read it, you're going to get something different out of it. You can read the same verse uh uh 27 times, and every time you read the verse, uh you see it in a new light because God's word is alive, and uh God is just that good that that's how He speaks to us and He speaks to our situations and so declaring the Word and prophesying and praying the Word over your family and over your friends is probably one of the most powerful things that we can do as women and prayer warrior warriors. Um so I'm gonna give another example that I was praying over her. I um in Deuteronomy chapter 31, verse 6, I said, Well, the verse says this be strong and courageous, don't be afraid or terrified of them, for the Lord your God is the one who will go with you. He will not leave you or abandon you. And um, so I would say, you know, dear Lord, please give Aubrey a strong and courageous heart, that she will never be terrified or afraid of the people or the persecutions, because you are her God, and you will always go with her, and you never leave her nor abandon her. And Father, I pray that you will order Aubrey's steps, that you will guide her into her future, that you will make her strong and courageous everywhere she goes, that she will not be afraid of people, but that she will be full of your light, full of your presence, full of your Holy Spirit. Right? And so, you know, I I it was definitely you continue to go to go on, right? Like you don't have to end at the verse, but you are you're declaring that word. You're declaring and and you're praying to the Lord his word over your child that they're gonna be strong, that they're gonna be courageous. Um I am gonna try to find another one. I'm gonna pick. Um I really personally love the ones that I pray over my daughter. I love the ones I pray over my husband too. Don't get me wrong. Um, but there are some really, really good ones that I love praying over, Aubrey. Um This is another big one that I also pray over many, many people, not just my daughter. Again, this is something great that you it's you know, it's like a muscle that you exercise. And as I can as I started to pray these things month after month over, you know, my family and using this prayer journal, you know, that I would open up every morning and and pray the scripture over them, I started to become familiar and I started realizing like the this word the God's word can be prayed for for so many other people. And so this is just another one that I used to um pray over so many. Um and this is Psalm 36, verses 7 and 8a, so like the first half of eight. It says, How priceless your faithful love is, God. People take refuge in the shadow of your wings, they are filled from the abundance of your house. And so, you know, I will say, Lord, your faithful love is so priceless and so precious. And let Aubrey take refuge in the shadow of your wings and protect her um with your wings and fill her up with all of your abundant love and your abundant faithfulness and your abundant grace and your abundant mercy that you have in your home and that you have in your house, and fill her up with your trust, Lord. And um Amen. Right? So um that's just another really good one. I absolutely love to pray um specifically Psalms 36, verse 7. Um, how priceless your faithful love is, God. People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. That is just my absolute favorite. Um, that one and the numbers one. Um the may the Lord bless you and protect you. Um, may the Lord shine his face upon you and be gracious to you. Um and so yeah, so those are four that I I think I gave you no, I I lied. I give you five. I think I give you two um for your spouse. Again, it doesn't have to be just over your spouse, um, and over your daughter. This can be over anybody, you know. You can say, um, you know, how how priceless and amazing your faithful love is, God. I I pray that, you know, my friend Lily, my friend Cheyenne, my friend Crystal, my friend Mackenzie, my friend Casey, right, right, you fill in the blank. You know, may they take refuge in the shadow of your wings and may you fill them up with your abundant love. May you fill them up with your abundant grace. Um so yeah, you can really use that pretty interchangeably. Um, so I'm going to now give you a few over declaring God's word when it comes to a certain um like topic you you you're getting at, right? So gossiping, fearing finances, you know, I know that's a super big one that we stress finances, whether we're feeling unwanted, unworthy, whether we're feeling lonely, whether our anxious, whether we're battling negativity. Sometimes we feel often unseen, and that we're doing things on our own. Anger, bitterness, being tired, right? There's so many. Um I'm going to link in the show notes below a poster that I have made that I've actually given out to my Bible study group before. Uh it's called Declaring God's Word, and there is literally a beautiful chart that I made, and it literally goes on and it shows you the the the prayer and declaration and the scripture and what you know kind of the theme that you're praying for. So we're going to start with gossiping. Um, how many times are we convicted and are we, you know, caught gossiping? So I thought this was a super great one to use. And so this one is um the scripture is Romans chapter 12, verse 2. And it says, Don't copy the behavior and the customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good, pleasing, and perfect. And so, you know, you pray that and you can declare it and you say, you know, Lord, help me not copy the behavior and the customs of this world. Help me not copy the behavior of gossiping as worldly people do, but I will, you know, allow you and please transform me and transform my behavior, transform my habits into a person, you know, that is is godly and changing the way that I think and fill me up with what is good, fill me up with what is pleasing, and fill me up with what is perfect. Amen. Um, and then let's do a few more. I'll do one over fearing finances, and then I'll do one over anxiety, and then I'll do one over being tired. Being tired is a super other big one that I pray a lot over people because being burnt out is such a popular thing as this woman. Um so the fearing the finances when you're really scared that the money's not gonna come through, right? Um, so this scripture is Philippians chapter 4, verse 12. It says, I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or with little. And so I say, Dear Father, money is never a problem for me because I know that you are my God and that you are an endless provider who will always meet my needs. I am blessed and I will lead my life giving because I know that I am more blessed to give than I am to receive, and that I will fully believe that you will always provide all my needs. Amen. Um, so that one is for fearing finances. That one's super, super powerful, especially when you're in a tight bind and money's tight. I definitely encourage you to pray that over yourself, your your cup, you know, your relationship. Um, this one I used to use literally all the time because I have mat anxiety. I I don't know if you've if you've listened to me and my other episodes, but I have been diagnosed with chronic severe anxiety, and the Lord has really delivered me from that, but that doesn't mean that I don't have days or moments. Um, and so yeah. Let me I feel like I'm rambling and I don't like it. Um the scripture is my famous anxiety scripture. I love so much. It's my favorite scripture in the whole Bible besides Proverbs 31, woman. Matthew chapter 6, um, I do verses 25 and verse 30, and this says, That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life. Whether you have enough food or drinks, or whether you have enough clothes to wear, isn't life more than food and body and more than clothing? If God cares so wonderfully for the wildflowers that are here today and thrown in the furnace tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so much little faith? And so this prayer can say, you know what, Lord, I am declaring over myself that I am declaring your word over me. I will not worry about the small things, and I will not allow my anxiety to fear my everyday life. I will give all my worries to you, Lord, because you care for me so deeply. You know all my needs, and I'm going to take it one day at a time. Father, fill me up with your Holy Spirit, fill me up with trust for you, and thank you so much for caring for me so wonderfully, Father. Help me put my trust in you and have more faith in you. Amen. Um, so that is an anxiety one, and then I think I said I was gonna do the tired one. This is again someone I do a lot, especially my profession as teaching. So many of us in the teacher profession, and just so many of us women and moms get are just burnt out and tired. Um, and I can't tell you how many times I've prayed this scripture over my friends, um, or myself, honestly. This is pretty famous. I'm sure when I read it, you're gonna be like, oh yeah, I know that one. Um, but it is Matthew chapter 11, verses 28 through 30, and says this. Then Jesus says, Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am low re and gentle at heart. You will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. And you pray, you know, dear Lord, when I am tired and I am weary, I will pray to you, I will seek you, I am tired and I am weary, and I'm coming to you, and I am seeking you, and I'm laying at the feet of you, Jesus. I know that you give me rest for my soul. Not rest as the world gives, but rest that you give, and that I will give you my stress, I will give you my burdens, and I will remember to stay focused on you for your yoke is easy, and that your burden is light. Amen. Um so I hope I'm helping somebody today on how to really apply uh God's word and to pray God's word over yourself, over your family and your friends. Um I am with that being said, gonna close us out in prayer. Um, here we go. Dear Father, I thank you so much um for this episode and guiding this word here today. And I just pray over every single listener. I lift them up to you, Father. I pray that um whatever it was that you spoke in their heart, Father, I pray that you continue to speak this on their heart, that they walk away today, change, that they walk away today, um, wanting to um think about that thing that you laid on their heart for the rest of the day. That they I pray that they will declare your word and that they will practice um declaring your word and and um praying your word, Father, and getting to know the power of praying over your word. Amen. Alright, guys, thank you so so much for listening again. The declaring um God's word poster is in the show notes below. Um, and as always, if you have any prayer requests, please, please, please send them to me um on the Google Form link in my show notes. Um, you can just shoot me an email, use my link tree.
