Anthony and John discussed the 98th Oscars, the winners, the losers, and of course the snubs! Comment below let us know how you feel about what went down on this historical night!
What's going on, guys? I am the Black Sheet, Anthony C. And I am the big John V from South Carolina and all the way down to Hollywood. This is another edition.
SPEAKER_03Matter of fact, a golden Oscar edition of One Take, Real Talk on the movies, the Games, the Snubs, the Stubs, the Dubs of today's 2026 Oscar Review.
SPEAKER_02That's right, guys. So today we're going to do half the show talking about what just transpired at the Oscars tonight. And we're going to do the other half. We're going to play a couple of games. So if you guys have no interest in listening to us rant or rave or give praise about the Oscars, go and skip ahead and enjoy the rest of the show. But me and John are going to dive deep into the thick of it, give our thoughts, and give everything to this Oscar review. And yeah, I'm a little baffled on a lot of things. But John, I know you written one quick PSA.
SPEAKER_03Me and Anthony have not seen every movie nominated, and we haven't seen every movie that won.
SPEAKER_02They don't give a damn.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was like, just for fairness, right? We're gonna try to be as like if there's something we haven't seen, we're gonna try to be as fair as possible towards it.
SPEAKER_02But uh John, did you write anything down for these Oscars? Because I did, I'm driving.
SPEAKER_03I I've got some things written down. Do you just want to start on the on the softer side and things like that? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We'll work our way up, man. We're gonna work our way up. Go ahead and do your third.
SPEAKER_03All right, man. So I I'm gonna I'm gonna kind of power through the ones we agree on.
SPEAKER_02No, don't, no, no, no. We just need to just talk about everything, man. All right. Well, I'm gonna start with costume design. That went to Frankenstein. Yeah. I mean, I think every every movie in that category had a chance to win it. But when you look at the set designs and the costume, I mean, they said, I'm correct me if I'm wrong. When Frankenstein won, the guy who played Frankenstein sat in the chair over 400 hours. So that's that's impressive.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm like, it's no, it's no joke. And I mean, like, from the little bit of the movie I have seen, because I haven't seen the whole thing, it's some pretty impressive makeup work, man. Like the costumes, like the the that period piece feel they all have. You know, it's got that Mary Shelley special to it. Like to me, this is one that was pretty pretty cut and dry. I was I was okay with that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, I was fine with that. I mean, of course, I'd like to see centers win it, but when you look at a period, I mean, it was a lot of period pieces in this. You had Hamnet, you had Sinners, you know, you had this. I mean, it I mean, it's very impressive. Very impressive.
SPEAKER_03Well, for for fairness, right? Because obviously, you know, costumes went to this, production design went to this. Besides Frankenstein, what was your your number one overall pick? Come on, man. What do you think?
SPEAKER_02Centers, of course. Uh, but um I am watching Frankenstein this upcoming weekend. I will be watching this upcoming week. I gotta give it a watch.
SPEAKER_03Fair enough. Well, I'll go ahead and just we'll knock out the next one. Hairstyling and makeup also went to Frankenstein again. I think it's fair. Don't have a whole lot to add.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't need it. I mean, it goes the same again. I mean, I mean, the movie looks great. I can't wait to watch it. And uh but yeah, the aesthetic is there.
SPEAKER_03Okay, well, then let me get into like one of the spicy ones here. Editing went to one battle after another. Yeah. I'm not sure if I agree with that.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't think I agree with that either. I think Sinners and I know it was up there, I'm pretty sure it was nominated F1. I think those are two better edited movies than one battle after.
SPEAKER_03If it was so if it was up to me, I think it should have gone to F1 because the way like the the actual F1 scenes are shot.
SPEAKER_02It's very smooth, it's very the transitions are not janky. Everything transitions very smoothly. It's a very well-paced movie. And I can-and they feel punchy like it, like every time I'm like, this is punchy. Yeah, and I feel the same thing. I feel like the same thing with centers. The light scenes are light, the heavy scenes are very heavy. I mean, and and each scene means something. You know, I I feel like there's there's there's stuff on the cutting room floor. Can't wait for the director's cut. But I feel like they left what was supposed to be their beat then.
SPEAKER_03You know what I mean? 100%. Yeah, I agree with that. I think that's fair. Part of me wanted to go to Marty Supreme, but I know that's just my bias talking. So Yeah, it is. Um, but you know, let's uh how did you adapt to the book? Well, well, let me ask you a question.
SPEAKER_02Let me ask you a question. Let me ask you a question because I want to get this cat off the bat. So, how do you feel about the movie that you held in so high regard not grabbing anything today? That being Marty Supreme.
SPEAKER_03I think this is some bullshit. I didn't expect Marty Supreme to get best picture, and we'll get the best picture. I'm saving that last. Yeah, but go ahead. Um but the fact that it didn't walk away with anything. Anything. I was like, really?
SPEAKER_02I mean, honestly, so sharp. I feel like I feel like it's fitting because my biggest gripe with this movie is that it came out too early. It came out too late to compete for Oscar season. A lot of these movies were released early to mid-last year, and in my opinion, that should count against a movie when it comes to award season. How late did that, how late did your movie come out? I mean, to be in competition, you get what I'm saying? And I mean, I know there's a lot of hard work that went into Marty Supreme, and I'm not counting against it. Another period piece movie. This year is stacked with period pieces, man. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_03But uh I mean Marty Supreme came out on Christmas, so like. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I just don't feel like it had a lot of legs. Sinners is coming up on a year. How crazy is that thing then?
SPEAKER_03Sinners is the movie that got me back into the cinemas, man. Because I think Sinners was an April-ish?
SPEAKER_02I think it was like March. April 18th, yeah. Yeah, March or April, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I knew it was, and I mean, like, you know, I I think, and I'll, you know, let's get, I guess, I guess we'll we'll get there as we go through a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, no, we we ain't gonna dive into Center yet, but uh I just want to know because I didn't ask, I wanted to know how you felt. I know you held us with me in high regard.
SPEAKER_03I understand why. Because this is the thing. I I like I'm gonna say this now, and Anthony, you can you can you can attest to this. Even though we didn't get to see everything here, I I would definitely say this is one of the strongest Oscar lineups I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude, dude. I mean, just even off of seeing clips of some of these movies, I'm like, damn, this is a heavy Oscar, bro. This is a heavy Oscars nomination, man. This is by far. And actually, I watched everything of this Oscars except for about 20, 30 minutes. Because I forgot. I forgot. I literally just got the phone when she told you that it was 7 o'clock. And I forgot it was 7 o'clock. I was going down the road just in my train of thoughts, and like, yo, 7:30. Shit, I'm missing my Oscars. But go ahead.
SPEAKER_03I mean, man, if we're we're going down the list, right? Um I've got, and I know you're gonna feel the way about this, screenplay is next on the list. It went to, this was adapted screenplay, so it went to it went to one battle after another. I was kind of like, whatever. I I think maybe like it could have gone to begonia or something. I know you felt maybe they were giving PTA a little too much credit.
SPEAKER_02I think so.
SPEAKER_03I don't necessarily disagree.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_03Because I was like, man, like I I can't speak for train dreams, but I was like, Hamnet walked away with one. Hamlet walked away with one Oscar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's and that was crazy to me. I mean, because coming into this Oscar season, I thought Hamlet was the sleeper. I ain't even gonna lie. I thought Hamnet was the sleeper. I got I that's another movie I have on my list I need to watch. But uh I th I really thought Hamnet was like that sleeper pick that the Academy was gonna fall in love with, and you know, just damn.
SPEAKER_03You know what it felt like a movie they were a sucker for?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, exactly. You know, but I like you know, I just I don't know. To me, it felt like I was like one like adapted screenplay obviously means exactly that. Like it's gotta be an adapted movie, yeah. But I'm like, man, dude, like there are some other things you could have thrown on here. Even if it is just to give it the win for the sake of diversity, sometimes you do need that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But uh, but let's let's talk about the next category.
SPEAKER_03All right, well, Anthony, I'm gonna let you start this one. I got best original screenplay.
SPEAKER_02I mean, best original screenplay, it was no shadow of a doubt, it was which baffled me when we got to the best director. I that that that's what was crazy.
SPEAKER_03You know, I'm I'm also, I will say, I'm glad he got something.
SPEAKER_02But it didn't, I mean, like, boom, bro. I mean, this is a category where a lot of my favorite directors shine in, i.e. Quentin Tarantino, Ryan Kruger, Marcus Corses is known to be in this one. I mean, like, this is a wheelhouse, this is honestly where I like my directors to be. I'll I don't mind an adaptation, but dude, when you're talking about original screenplays and stuff like that, you know, um, yeah, and I mean it to me, it means a little more, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it it says something when uh, you know, you can look and you can be like, yeah, you know, man, like that was his. And yeah, like this, you you've said it before, and you're like, this is kind of like a more mature version of uh until dawn. Yeah, until dawn.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, uh, dust till dawn, dust till dawn. Yeah, we're not we're not gonna talk about until dawn.
SPEAKER_03But anyway. I mean, like, I'm I'm glad he walked away with something, even if it's not necessarily one I think he should have walked away with.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, how did you feel about his speech?
SPEAKER_02Because I thought it was very Oh, yeah, it was very, it was very, it was very powerful, man. Him standing on there acknowledging his cast and his staff and saying that, regardless of what, you're all winners to me. That that was very dope. I thought that was a very dope moment. Saying to, I can relate when he's talking to his babies at home. You know, I mean, it it's very dope situation. I mean, I think it's just a very dope end, man. But uh, let's move on. Let's move on.
SPEAKER_03All right. Well, uh, next one, and I'm gonna I'm gonna let you start this one again because I'm also pretty passionately in disagreements with this one. We got best casting went to one battle after another.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna tell you like this. You can line that cast up, and you can line the cast of sinners.
SPEAKER_03One one quick thing before I forget.
SPEAKER_02What's up?
SPEAKER_03To be fair, this is the first time this category has ever been cast, yeah, they've ever been nominated.
SPEAKER_02Like it's the first, this is the inaugural casting nomination. This is this is like the first time this has ever been a thing at the academy, yes. And they fumbled. Yeah, they fumbled it bad. Because, dude, not only did centers have the best cast of all the movies I've seen up here, dude. You can line them all up. And yeah, you got Vinicio de Toro, you got Leonardo DiCaprio, and you got uh Sean Pitt. That's all you had. Not the not forget Jason Tennity. Yeah, but like I said, that's all you got, bro. That's all you got.
SPEAKER_03I guess I think they put too much emphasis on because, you know, when Chase was talking and she was like, oh, this is my first feature film role. I think they put too much emphasis on the fact that it was her first film role.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it was so it was it was Miles' first role, too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and that that was kind of my thing is I was like, what?
SPEAKER_02And I love when Delroy's talking and he's like Dude, did you see they cut Deroy dude cut Delroy off at first when it was Delroy's turn? The guy before him, that that kind of that kind of pissed me off. Just the second time that Darroy has been disrespecting at an award show. That's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01But you can you can tell he was pretty pissed, too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it looked, he I'm like, really, man, you should have got this shit out whenever you you know what I'm saying. And then it kind of messed his speech up because he had to get back on track.
SPEAKER_03But but yeah, I I love what he said. I I fully agree. I think uh Francine Mazler is the casting director. I I think she did a perfect job.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she understood the assignment, man. She understood the assignment, she understood the execution, and she understood the culture. And for people who's like, the people who don't get why centers is such a big deal, it's such a cultural thing. It really is. And not only in cinema, but to see to see the culture represented as such a positive light, you know what I mean? And with a positive, I mean, like, it's a dark movie on the wrong, but it's such a positive message. You know what I mean? And it's a very honest movie. Like that's it. It's no holes bar, bare knuckles. You know, it's it's strictly what it is. You know what I mean? But but yeah, man, uh, they formed a bag with the first inaugural casting director automatically, man. I really think so. But but go ahead, John. What's the next one?
SPEAKER_03All right, man. Well, next one we got uh, so you and me didn't see short film. I don't think we can speak on Doctor, and I don't think we can speak on short documents.
SPEAKER_02But I knew by the titles of some of these things, I knew what was meant. But short film, what's crazy is short film, I think it was short film or short documentary, both had the first tie in that in that one. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03The tie, I didn't know that there were they said like all the things. Yeah, so not gonna get too into those because we can't really speak on those, but and uh we're also gonna skip international sentimental value. Seems like that was fair.
SPEAKER_02We've really got to step our game up because we have a lot of international listeners too. We apologize.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's fair. We're sorry, guys. We're sorry. But wait, we got you. We will we will watch sentimental value and review it. But K-pop demon hunters won in best animated feature. I'm gonna start this. Let's just let's just do, I mean, but go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. I don't think it should have won. And I don't even think it should be. I I think the best, I think the best option wasn't even nominated.
SPEAKER_02I mean, of course you would, but it's it's a phenomenon, bro.
SPEAKER_03It's no, I I get it. I think it, I think the win is fair for what was there, but if we're being real, it should have been Chainsaw Man. Chainsaw Man didn't even get nominated. Chainsaw Man was better. But I get it. I'ma respect it. I'm gonna move on to score unless you want to say something.
SPEAKER_02No, I think we can, I think instead of going to score, let's go might as well go into the other category that can't pop people underwarried, best original song. Golden, okay. Which honestly, I'm not I love I lied to you, but you cannot. That's song Golden, it was undeniable, actually. And there's a person who hasn't even watched the movie that has daughters that are obsessed, that were obsessed with this and obsessed with the soundtrack. Yeah, man, I mean, it's the right answer. You get it, bro. You can you can relate to it on a different level. Yeah, it's a right, it's it's dude. This thing, this shit was everywhere last year.
SPEAKER_03I see, that was that was the thing I was gonna say was like Golden transcended the movie. This is the only thing, because in my opinion, I still think it should have gone to like I think Cinners was the better song. But where I was like, I think where Golden geeked it out is this is Golden transcended the movie. Cinner is so incredible because you're watching the movie and you're like, what is happening?
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I can't speak on what happens in the movie of K-pop Big Minds. But like you said, dude, you get when when Preacher Boy starts singing, I lied to you, and that whole transparency about spirits and ancestors and the power of music. I feel like based off of that, it should have won, but I cannot deny how global golden was.
SPEAKER_01That's where I'm like, yeah, it's hard for me to not.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So, like, yeah, but when it comes to that, I can't, you know, I mean, I'm I can't really too much speak on it. And I know everybody's like, how have you not seen this movie? I just don't, I really do not feel the need to watch it. It just doesn't appeal to me. Uh I'm sorry. I don't hate the movie because I can't hate the movie, and I don't like, I don't have no disdain for it. It just doesn't. Everybody tells me it's a great movie, but like, I mean, maybe one day I'll watch it, but I just don't feel the need to watch it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, until then, you know, fair enough, right? Like, yeah. But again, like Golden, Golden Win, I I think it's fair, even though okay, here's how I'll put it center scene is better than anything golden is. Golden just transcended what it was trying to do in a better way. Yeah, that I can. Yeah, all right, let's let's move on though. All right, original score, centers. I'll let you go ahead and start.
SPEAKER_02I mean, dude, I mean, they captured everything blues, everything bluegrass, everything. I mean, it's I mean, it's this it goes without saying. This would be this movie what transported you back to the 1930s.
SPEAKER_03I'm not gonna lie, I won't even lie to the music.
SPEAKER_02I mean, along with the music, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_03I was scared for a second. I was like, no, it's gotta win. It's gotta win, best of the world.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, like it's it's the only right answer that was in that category. If that I've seen, I'm not gonna lie to you, that I've seen yes, it's the only right answers.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like it was just bro, I was so scared. I was like, dude, I need this to win because, like you said, it it like the way it captures blues and the culture and like what it feels like to be in the South.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's so genuine, so many like random songs. A lot of the original songs are great. Like Ryan Kugler's soul is on this movie, and you can feel it in everywhere.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah. But uh, what's the next category, John?
SPEAKER_03All right, visual effects. We can kind of brush over the internet. It was fire, I thought it was gonna go to F1.
SPEAKER_02I ain't gonna lie to you. Really? I knew I knew I knew, I knew Fire Nash was gonna take it, but I thought, like, hey, they were gonna pull. I did not realize how much visual effects went into F1. And I was like, okay, maybe F1 might have this thing in it. But I was like, of course everybody's gonna go to Fire. It's the F Avatar for me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was like, James Cameron, the the amount of work he puts into those movies is kind of unreal. So yeah. All right, what we got next? Best sound, centers also I think was fair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's me. Go ahead. What's next?
SPEAKER_03Alrighty. Now we're into the big ones. These are the big, big categories. All right, let's do it. Let's start with the first what the fuck of the day. Best supporting actress. Yeah, going back to Madigan.
SPEAKER_02I mean, listen, Amy Madigan did an extellar job in weapons last year. But you telling me she's one of my favorite movies of the year. Yeah, yeah. But you telling me with a straight face that she out acted Whoomy? No.
SPEAKER_03Also, the fact that this isn't you know, Wumi in in leading role.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's another discussion.
SPEAKER_03Like to be fair, I would have even been okay if it was like Wumi in supporting Haley Seinfeld and leading, because Haley is in more of the movie.
SPEAKER_02And see, I think, I think honestly, Womie should have I think they're equal. I can't say she's in more of the movie. I think she had more of a more of a presence. Presence because of how her character was introduced. I mean, because we'll get into the breakdown of series later. I got so much to break down about this movie. I love this fucking movie. But but I really think Womie should have been a leading woman. But I'm but I get because honestly, I get why she wasn't, but it's still not justifiable.
unknownYou know.
SPEAKER_03Also, like Cinematal Value was nominated twice. Like, I was like, again, I haven't seen this movie. I think it could go to either of them, and that's fair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think that's but yeah, dude. Uh just you know, I mean, it just to me it didn't be. But uh, what's what's next?
SPEAKER_03Oh, one one last thing. One last thing. I'm so glad it did not go to Tiana Taylor. Yes, yes, but but what's next? All right. Next up, we have uh drum roll supporting actor going to Sean Penn. And I told you that's where it should have gone.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's not where it should have gone, but I knew where it was going. So yeah. I think Darroy did a better job. Sorry. Sean Penn had, I think Sean Penn should have been nominated for best actor, not best supporting actor. That was my statement. Because he had more of a prominent role than Leo in that movie. I think Leo should have been nominated for best supporting actor.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so man, like I want you to have your chance to kind of, you know, like stay your peace with this. You want you want to tell our viewers why you think Delroy was better?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I just think Delroy's character, I think, all right. There's a few scenes that spoke out. It's the scene in the car where him stacked, him is smoke. Yeah, him and Smoke and Preacher Boy are on their way back, or on their way to the juke joint, or pick up cornbreak, one or the two. And he tells a story about blues and about him and a couple of guys, and they get into some trouble or whatnot, and the people on the chain gain. The amount of pain that transpires, right? That transpires in a matter of seconds, and that it hurt, you felt it, and then the damn, and the only way he could shake it is by going to his comfort, which isn't the alcohol, which he does take a sip, but blues. Literally start humming a song. And and and this is this is the magic of it. All that was improvised. They were not supposed to go into song after that. But Ron Kougar let the camera roll, and it just transpired into what it was on scene. I mean, on in that scene. And then when he gives Preacher Boy a breakdown of what the blues means, like, dude, like golly, bro. The dudes, the dude is so impactful, so powerful. And what he'd done a lot with less is why I say he should have won Best Supporting Actor. Sean Penn did an amazing job, but I feel like he should have been nominated best actor and lost to who undoubtedly won. But I knew once I saw the nominees who was gonna win.
SPEAKER_03Look, I think Delroy gives a beautiful performance. And like, let me preface by saying I think Sean Penn deserved that because his performance is the standout of his movies. Delroy is a great piece of the pie. But I just don't think he's the best performer.
SPEAKER_02But this is why I said that Sean Penn should have been nominated for best actor, not best supporting actor. Leo felt more like a supporting role than Sean Penn did. Sean Penn was the catalyst of a lot of things that happened in this movie. We spent more time with Sean Penn. We spent more time with Sean Penn than we did Leo. Or maybe equal parts, but I feel like Sean Penn was a more prolific character, prolific character in that movie. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_03I'm not gonna lie, maybe this is a hot take, too.
SPEAKER_02I feel like if you're not of the Oscars to accept the award, you shouldn't get the award. Exactly. You should not get the award. And he was not there. And you're telling me Darroy had to sit for five plus hours to know that he lost? Come on, bro. So disrespectful. And what and let me ask you a question. When does in what world does Sean Penn need another Oscar?
SPEAKER_03Because he's got one for Milk and he's got one for Mystic River.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm just saying, in what world and Darroy deserves this Oscar, bro. Not I shouldn't say you should give it to him, but he deserved it. But let's go on to the next one, bro. This is that that's the one. Let's go on to the next one.
SPEAKER_03This one that, again, we can't speak a ton on, but like I watched a couple scenes of this movie and I saw them and was like, yeah, that's the right answer. And I know you're kind of in the same boat, Jesse Buckley with Hamlet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's the right answer.
SPEAKER_03I mean, dude, and I also, guys, not to be rude, and I'm not trying to sound wrong here, I don't know what she was speaking at like the last little chunk of her speech, but I I think she had one of like the most emotional speeches.
SPEAKER_02You seen Begonia, right? Yeah, I saw begonia. So what did you think about oh girl now?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I think Emma Stone did a good job, but she was like, that was like one to me where I was like, really?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Like I mean, but it's but it's it's Emma Stone, bro. She's in a movie, it's getting on. She's getting on. You skipped over you skipped, you skipped over one category.
SPEAKER_03I might hit it here. I was gonna say, well, just one last thing. Kate Hudson, song sung blue. I I she did a great job. Um, I knew she wasn't gonna win, but great job. Which one did I skip over? Want to be the pullback on? Cinematography. Oh, yeah. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah. Best cinematography. Go ahead, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02Center's won that one as it should. I mean, the movie literally pulled like I told John when I watched this movie. I don't know what the hell or who the hell was behind the cinematography. Found out tonight. But dude. Awesome girl the archive, by the way. Yeah. So they literally trans they transfer you from your movie seat. If you didn't get to see this movie in theaters, you lost. You saw it. You lost out, bro. This movie transports you from your movie seat into the actual movie. It's so beautiful, so well shot. And like, dude, I had to look around in the movie theater to break this trance. It's the it's the most spiritual experience I've had with a movie. And that's crazy to say. It's the only thing I can liken to an out-of-body experience. Which is stupid, which is crazy. But that's that's the most thing I could liken the experience of watching sinners in the movies. If you and if it if they re put it back, if they put it back in the movies and it's in IMAX, I'm going to see it in IMAX. Without a shadow of a doubt. I I second guess. But what was the next category you had now?
SPEAKER_03Oh, uh, for real, real, uh, yeah. Also, if it does come in IMAX, I'd be super down to go see this kid. But next one, man, this is the personal one for you. And I'm very glad he walked away with it. Even though I do think it was closer than you were giving it credit for, he is the one that deserved it. We got Michael B.
SPEAKER_02Jordan with the was not close at all, sir. Not close at all. It's not close at all, bro. That was festered. Yeah. Festered that answer. Yeah, was not close at all. Hell no. The man who should have won won. Okay. The little guy who movie didn't get not get one win shows you. I was saying all that ping-pong lessons. Better brushing up over there, Timothy Chalamet. Better hope Dune 3 gets you an Oscar, because that ain't it, son. Sorry. It ain't it, son. Sorry. Like I said, the man who should have won. No, because John, until the until this last week, John was like, Timothy Chalamagne should win. He did win. No, man.
SPEAKER_03No, that's not what I said. That's not what I said. I said they were in the same place. They are not.
SPEAKER_02They are not. They're not. Timothy Chalamagne might be an A. That was an S-tier performance for Michael B. Jordan.
SPEAKER_01The ability to balance between the two. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03And feel again, like nothing feels out of place in the way that it happens.
SPEAKER_01It's not some, oh man, why is that like you know, the way it works?
SPEAKER_03It's it's got a great energy to it. Like, I know you don't love it, but I loved the fuck out of this movie. And I didn't know she was won it.
SPEAKER_02That's fine, but the best man won the night. And the one that should have won didn't win. But uh what's the one?
SPEAKER_03I will say, I will say this. Let's go to the first.
SPEAKER_02I ain't gonna lie, that shit resonated in my soul a little bit. Yeah, right. All right, so let's go to the first snub of the night. But let's go to one of the biggest snubs of the night. Best director. Yeah. They were on Paul Thomas Anderson's You Know What the night. I'm gonna try to keep it clean. They were on, they were, they were stroking this man. If they stroked him anymore, anymore, he would ejaculate it on stage. That's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was it was a little I ain't gonna lie. Look, I was cool with like a one or the other thing. Right. I thought I felt like that was fair.
SPEAKER_02But nine times out of ten, whoever wins best director wins best film.
SPEAKER_03Which is fair, yes.
SPEAKER_02But I was like stupid. But like, bro, when I seen that, I was like, well, we ain't winning best film. And like, like, dude, sinners deserve, this one tell you. I've watched one battle after another, right? And I've watched Sinners. Watch Sinners. But if John, if I was like, hey man, you gotta watch one of these movies on loop for like four times, which one are you picking?
SPEAKER_03Bro, for starters, let's start with the fact that fucking Sinners is like three out, like Sinners is like two hours, and it feels like two hours. Yeah. One battle after another is three hours, and it feels like two.
SPEAKER_02It feels like a three-hour movie. Yes, it does. And like, bro, and and John, we both fell in love with with the movie theaters again because of one movie. It was sinners. Like, I ain't got any shame in saying that. And before, and during the nomination, why do they say was uh we're killing both categories, right? Because we gotta move on to these games. But during during the nomination, what did Nicole Kim and them say that that that best picture supposed to be about is about love, right? Yeah, that was the whole thing about falling in love with movies again, about falling in love with the theater, about all this bullshit. Bro, one battle after another does not make me want to go to the movies. It doesn't, and look, I'm not saying one battle after another is bad. No, it's my number two movie of last year. It is, it's literally my number two movie of last year.
SPEAKER_03But it's long as fuck, and you feel that length, you do. Yeah. Does that mean the movie's bad? No, no, we're just telling you the facts here. Yeah, you feel that shit, it's long as fuck, and I didn't feel the need to re-watch one battle after another. And it's coming from a man who loves Paul Thomas Anderson.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But uh but yeah, man.
SPEAKER_02But uh yeah, you guys didn't know one battle out of another one, best director and fucking best. If you couldn't gather that right, man. But uh, but yeah, man, that was that's our take on the 2026 Oscar. What in the 98th? Is 98th Oscar? Oh yeah, the 98th Oscar. Yeah. So, but yeah, guys, we're gonna move into the second half of this podcast. Excuse me. We're gonna move into the second half of the podcast. In this pat this part, we're gonna take some Oscar Faves and we're gonna play a few games with them. John, do you have your Oscar Faves down? I do have my Oscar Faves down. All right. So, John, what game are you wanting to play? And I got what game do you want to host and I gotta play and I got a couple games for you?
SPEAKER_03So I have I have keep and sweep, and then I have blindly rank. Okay. I got a little bit of the I'll host blindly rank. I'll host blindly rank.
SPEAKER_02Oh, no, I mean you don't no, you ain't gotta we you can play both, is what I'm saying. What game do you want to go first?
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. You know, let's start with uh let's start with keep and sweep.
SPEAKER_02Let's start with well, go ahead, man. Give me give me what you got.
SPEAKER_03All right, man. So let me pull up my list real quick here, guys, because I got a couple of them. You know, that way it's fair. And Anthony, how right, let's go with our best picture.
SPEAKER_01These are some of the big ones. Okay. We got the color purple. Yes, sir. All right. Or Titanic. Color purple. Color purple or Schindler's list. Color purple. Color purple or forest is gone. What a call should color purple. Color purple or the godfather. Gotta go godfather. The godfather or lord of the rings return of the king. Only because it uh because it's I gotta go godfather.
SPEAKER_02I mean, fair enough. Do you do you want to give your reasoning or I mean it's literally if on anybody's list is ranked as number one movie of all time. I love the Lord of the Rings. But there's the only thing. Your favorite movie they listed. I don't know. I don't know about that. Color Purple is a special place in my heart. But yeah, nah, I mean. But yeah, man, I don't know, man. It's just, you know, it it's one of those. You know what I'm saying? It's one of those. All right. Hey, I get it. I get it. I'm not mad at it. It's one of those. It's one of those on top. All right, so out of these five movies, John, you only get to keep. Out of these movies, you only get to keep three, okay? Oh, I get to keep three, okay. Yeah, you only get to keep three, but the rest of these go away. Bye-bye, okay? So choose they randomly. They're randomly. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Sounds good to me. All right. Rocky. Keep.
SPEAKER_02I know. All right. Everything, everywhere, all at once.
SPEAKER_03Sweep. All right. Also, to our friends that watch it. Yes, I did. I did that.
SPEAKER_02Let me see. That was only number two, right? Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_01Let's go with parasite. Oh, okay. I get to keep three. I'm also am I in am I that deeply invested in parasite? I guess that's the question. I'll keep. Just in case. You're gonna keep parasite?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's not a movie I'm like overly attached to, but.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I mean, I'm gonna ask you one more time. It's for real, you're keeping parasite, right?
SPEAKER_01I'll keep, yeah, I'll keep parasite. Alright. That's a party. I only get three, right? You only get three.
SPEAKER_02So your next movie you keep is that's it.
SPEAKER_03So you're either gonna be a monster.
SPEAKER_02You got two more movies. I'm gonna do six. So you got two more movies. Or I could get more.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I thought I had five.
SPEAKER_02No, no, matter of fact, I matter I did say five. So yeah, you got one more movie. My fault. My fault. I was like that. I was like, that threw me off. Yeah, I did say five. So you got one more movie.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01But right now you gotta choose when the departed. Are you gonna do this to me? I know how you are sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Man, so listen, man. Are you picking the departed? Yes or no? Cut the departed. You cut the departed. You cut the departed to save La La La.
SPEAKER_01Damn, I fucked up.
SPEAKER_02I didn't I didn't know where you were going, man. Look, man, hey, you cut the departed to save La La La.
SPEAKER_03Fair enough. Fair enough. I didn't know that's how we were playing, man. Look, man, I'm just giving you, I'm just giving you, you know what I mean. You know what's crazy is I'm gonna skip my next one because I had three of the movies you named.
SPEAKER_02That's fine. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's the Oscars, man. We got a lot of damn movies that we've named.
SPEAKER_03But I'm gonna go with performances. Okay.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So we'll we'll do it your way because I like your way better. I like the you get to keep three. But I'm gonna make it a little easier. You get to keep two. Okay.
SPEAKER_01That's easier? Okay. Training day. Denzel watching. I'm keeping that one. Anthony Hopkins. Sweeping. You didn't say what movie?
SPEAKER_02You didn't say what? You did say what movies. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I knew what you meant, but nah, we keep we're sweeping Hannibal Lecter. There will be blood. Daniel Day Lewis. I'm not keeping There Will Be Blood. Only because I haven't finished it. I know it's a highly praiseful.
SPEAKER_01Joaquin Phoenix's Joker. Keeping it. And you will be sweeping Keith Ledger. I'm fine with that. I'm fine with that.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, that's a spicy dig. Yeah, I'm fine with that. I'm not saying it's better, but I'm fine with it.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I'm fine. I'm fine with that. Fair, fair, fair. All right. Let's go into your favorite field. Directors. That is my field. All right. Because you want to keep you want to keep three.
SPEAKER_02Here we go. Francis core coppola.
SPEAKER_01Francis Cord Coppola. Coca Coppola.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01I mean that's that's you're starting heavy. I get to keep three, right? You get to keep three, man. I'll I'll keep I'll keep Francis. Okay. Spike Lee. Man, it's hard, bro. I just don't know. Only because of that shitty old boy remake I'm a cut Spike Lee. Quentin Tarantino. You gonna hate me. I'm a cut. I mean that's fine, but that's fine with me. You only got two left. Steven Spielberg. Oh yeah, gotta keep Steven Spielberg, obviously. Not that I have an option, but still.
SPEAKER_02All right. And you're and the last one you got. To keep regardless of what, correct?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Catherine Bigelow. I mean, she's not too bad. She did the hurt one. She did do the hurt one. Well, you know what? I'm not mad.
SPEAKER_03She did point break.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And if anyone who knows me knows how I feel about point break. Alright. Next up on the chopping block, we got the animated movies. But you only get to keep one. Starting.
SPEAKER_02Well, I keep I I keep giving this nigga a damn three movies and he keep he short me out. But go ahead.
SPEAKER_01The Mitchells versus the Machines. I love that movie. But I'm uh I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna sweep it. I'm gonna see what's out there. Ratatouille. Sweet. Inside out. Sweet. Only got five of these.
SPEAKER_03How to train your dragon. Sweet.
SPEAKER_02And your keep is Wally. I'm fine with that. If I knew that, I would have kept the Mitchells. I would have kept the Mitchells. I didn't know you liked that movie that much. That's why I put it on there. No, I like it. I like the movie. I didn't say I like it that much, but you know what I mean. Alright, you only get to keep two movies here.
SPEAKER_01You ready? I'm always ready. Oppenheimer. I only get to keep two.
SPEAKER_03You know, I I can I can live without keeping Oppenheimer. You can cut it.
SPEAKER_01Alright, saving Private Ryan. I get to keep two. Well we'll save. We'll save Private Ryan. You gonna keep it? Yeah, we'll keep it. We'll keep it. All right. No country for old men. Thank you. Cute. No shit. We will. I'ma keep it.
SPEAKER_03I'ma keep it. No, I'ma cut it. I'ma cut it. I'ma cut it.
SPEAKER_02Mmm. It's a hot take either way, so. So you couldn't, you couldn't. You couldn't or keeping it. I'm cutting it, man. I'm cutting it. You sure?
SPEAKER_01120% confident. Alright. Gladiator. I got one more keep, and I got one more cut. You know what? I like the gamble. And we're gonna cut it.
SPEAKER_02Hey, good deal, good deal. And the movie that you're keeping is 12 years of sleep. You know what? I I'm totally okay with that. As sad as that movie is.
SPEAKER_01That movie is bad. It is it is pretty sad. It's incredibly made. It's just real messed up. Yeah, it is. All right. So next up, I have the one, the only war movies. Okay. So we're gonna start with saving private Ryan.

SPEAKER_01Alright, we got Apocalypse Now. Cutting it.
SPEAKER_02You know that surprises me. Haven't watched it. Only know a couple clips from it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I haven't watched it. That's the one reason I'm cutting it.
SPEAKER_02Let's go, Platoon.
SPEAKER_01I'm keeping Platoon. I like Platoon. Alright. Dunkirk. Haven't seen it, gotta cut it.
SPEAKER_03And then finally, 1917, which you gotta keep. So.

SPEAKER_02I'm only got him in the order I wrote him, bro. I'm keeping Viola Davis. That's your three keeps, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That's all I gotta cut whoever's next.
SPEAKER_01And you're cutting the great Daniel Day Lucas. Man. I can't be mad at myself, though. I'll be honest.
SPEAKER_03I'm not gonna lie, honestly, I still probably would have chosen Viola Davis. Her and uh like I think Daniel Day Lewis is a little too picky, but that's a conversation people don't want to have. Alright, man. Well, look, you're gonna have to randomly rank these five scene stealing supporting roles. Okay.
SPEAKER_01We have Christian Bale in the Fighter. I mean, you ain't you said five, right? Yes, yeah. I put it about number four. All right. We got Mahershalla all lead and Moonlight. About five. Once upon a time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt. I mean three. Okay. Whiplash, J.K. Simmons.
SPEAKER_02Even though I haven't seen it, I know it's number one, so I'll put it in the wrong one.
SPEAKER_03And number two is Christoph Waltz from Unglorious Bastards. Should have been my number one.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, uh, that would have been my number one, but I didn't know how you were playing it.
SPEAKER_01Man, I've always gotcha. Alright. I'm quite scared actually now, because all right, since you want to play a little dirty. Alright. I'm gonna have you ring some sinkers. Okay. Alright, alright. Okay. Always ready. You ready, Freddy? I'm readier than a potato that's been baked in the oven. All right. Table scene from Django. That's a pretty good one.
SPEAKER_02Oh, these are these are all heavy hitters. I ain't gonna lie to you.
SPEAKER_03I I don't know how you're gonna play. I'm gonna go three. Three? We're gonna set the bar. We're gonna set the bar.
SPEAKER_02The D-Day opening scene, say for private ride.
SPEAKER_03Man, it's it honestly, probably should be number one, but because I don't ever want to re-watch it because that shit's so fucked up, I'm gonna go number five.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Coin toss. No country for old men. Ah shit. Let's go. Oh man, I'ma go two. I'ma go two. Number two? All right. So what you got left? Three and you got no, hold on. What you got left? I got I got three and I got one. Okay. Hmm. And I believe, regardless of what, you're gonna be like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_02Clarice meets Hannibal Lecter for the first time. I'm sorry, I've got four and I've got one because I have Django and three. Okay, I'm sorry. Okay, so yeah, you're really gonna be pissed. So Clarice meets Hannibal Lictor for the first time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I am seething with rage right now. I'm gonna go four because I'm like I like to gamble.
SPEAKER_01Damn, son. I can't believe you did that.
SPEAKER_02And then for your number one, and it is only because I had this already lined up. I'm not gonna switch it on you.
SPEAKER_01Adrian! Adrian! Number one.
SPEAKER_03You know what? I'm happy with that.
SPEAKER_01Number one.
SPEAKER_03Fully okay with that.
SPEAKER_02Rocky's final boxing match. Final box match in Rocky won.
SPEAKER_01Let's go, baby. Alright.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna give you these five biopick performances. Okay. Walk the line.
SPEAKER_02Reese Witherspoon. Reese Witherspoon? Not not not Walking Phoenix. I like her.
SPEAKER_03I like her in that small hint.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't I don't listen. All right. So I'm going with I'm going with that at like number four. It's good. It's memorable. This is where we're finishing. You got one. I got one more. We're gonna get up out of here. But good, yeah. But yeah, I'll put that number four. I'll put it at number four.
SPEAKER_01That's okay. Next up, we got Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln. Five. Just because I haven't finished it. I haven't finished it. Okay, we have Meryl Streep and the Iron Lady. Ugh. I'm gonna go with your gut, man. I'm gonna go with three. Go to go with three? Yeah. Putting the goat at three.
SPEAKER_02I'm putting the goat at three.
SPEAKER_01I see the goat, but I'm putting it three. Okay. And then finally, well, not finally, got two more. You got Ray. Jamie Yelly Falcon. Number one. Number one. And your number two by default. Remy Malik. Oh, you ain't shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You ain't shit. You see how you're gonna be you see, you see how you do me? You see how you do me, right? You ain't shit. Alright, fuck my list up like that. It's all good. It's alright. Don't worry about it. You guys are ever curious what Anthony thinks the worst performance. Oh, they heard it before. I think we did biopics not too long ago. If not, we're gonna get into it. But for the last for the last line ranking of the night, rank the top six saddest moments in Oscar history.
SPEAKER_01You ready? I'm scared. Let's go. I'm tired, boss.
SPEAKER_02Please don't cover my cover my face up with that.
SPEAKER_01John Coffey's death scene, Green Mile. So you think you're cute? I'ma go number two. Number two? I don't.
SPEAKER_03I ain't gonna lie. I might have fucked this.
SPEAKER_02This one is really sad. The old couple in the bed as it sinks in Titanic. Five. Ooh, really? Really? You know what? Maybe it's cause. Well, matter of fact, I'm gonna pull that one out. I can do better. Let's remove that one. Let's make this a little harder for John.
SPEAKER_01The opening montage is up. About to make an enemy right here. He put it at six?
SPEAKER_03Oh man. Okay. That is the most overrated fucking scene in cinematic history. If you say so.
SPEAKER_02All right. Go for it. Wilson floating away. Castaway.
SPEAKER_01Four.
SPEAKER_02Four. Okay. I mean five. Five.
SPEAKER_01Five. I'm sorry. I keep forgetting there's six. Yeah, all right. Okay.
SPEAKER_02And yes, this movie was nominated.
SPEAKER_01The final letter to her father Interstellar.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you know what? I'm going to go one. I am. I should have put John Coffey's death at one, but I'm okay with that.
SPEAKER_01Okay. What number are we at? I've got three left. Three and four.
SPEAKER_03I've got three and four left.
SPEAKER_02I think you're going to kick yourself for this one. Andy saying goodbye to Red or leaving prison.
SPEAKER_03I think I'm going to say I'm going four, and I'm okay with that because I think that that seems beautiful.
SPEAKER_02More than it is. You got what you got? Two left? Uh yeah, I've got I've got three left.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you just had three. No, no. That was number four. I have three, number three left. Oh, you only got number three left.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03I should have ordered that back.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And your number three spot, you got Mufasa's death from the Lion King.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Other than the John Candy scene?
SPEAKER_02John Coffee.
SPEAKER_01John Coffee, I'm sorry. Yeah. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty okay with this.
SPEAKER_02Dude, I had the final scene with Will Smith and his son, Pursuit of Happiness, the bathroom scene. Well, not the final scene, the bathroom scene.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, that movie.
SPEAKER_02That movie scene is super sad. I had I had the Tony Hart, the Tony Stark scene from them in game. That movie was nominated for an Oscar. Not that scene was that movie. I had Dobby's Death. I was gonna put Dobby's Death on here, but I didn't know how you felt. I didn't know how you was. And I had the final goodbye between Jack and Rose.
SPEAKER_01You know, this that was I I could have gone a couple ways with that, and I think I would have been okay.
SPEAKER_02But guys, this has been another edition of One Take Real Talk, and it was all in one take, one shot, keep it real, peace. Peace.
