Anthony and John discussed their
kids
movies
What's going on, guys? I am the Black Sheep Anthony C, and I am the big John V from South Carolina all the way to Cali. This is another edition of a nostalgic edition of One Take, Real Talk on the movies, the games, and the potentially nostalgic childhood memories that we had to dig really hard to find pop culture. I didn't have to dig that hard to find. We all know if you listen to the Christmas episode that John had a terrible, terrible childhood. Like I'm a lit, I'm gonna let everyone else. This man had the childhood of a 30-year-old virgin. Damn. Dog said, what you didn't get for a Christmas or what you didn't get for your birthday is fucking. Yeah, that shit. That was a cop-out answer. Alright, guys. So I'm gonna let I'm gonna let y'all decide. Because this list was was kind of onerous and kind of not once I started kind of figuring things out. So guys, if you haven't figured it out, today we're doing our top, we don't even have a number for it yet, because I gotta see how many John had to dig dog, dig hard to get. We're doing our top kids' movies, where either there are kids' movies or there's movies we enjoyed as kids. So I had to give John that caveat of, hey man, you know some kids who enjoy. So yeah. Most of mine are from my childhood. John's is mostly from his adulthood, which lurked together with his childhood. And yeah, so we're gonna we're gonna see what what comes together in this accumulation of theater that is is is crazily crazily found frowned upon by critics. It's hard to find. I mean, I wouldn't know a child. Hold up. Hold up. So yeah, John, we're gonna we're gonna formulate a list of things that critics for some reason frown upon. But John, how many do you have on your list? Then we'll figure out what we're doing. Well, zero, because you know, I didn't have a childhood. So makes sense. Makes very very sense. One, two, three, four, fifteen. Fifteen. You got fifteen, and I got like 30 something. Yeah, bro. I mean, like, what did you expect me to do here? So let's let's do 10 apiece. So top 20. That works? Shit, man. I hope you don't overlap. I mean, you're not gonna overlap with me. So to give you a little bit more space, I did a couple of movies that mean a lot to me that I'm pretty sure that you have no resonation with. Even if we overlap, I'll pull some from the shit that I didn't use. I'll put I got like 31 over here. So let's do a couple honorable mentions. You have four. I can I can come like easily four. So, John, give me a couple, give me, give me one of your honorable mentions. I mean, give me four of your honorable mentions. We ain't even gotta talk about them unless one of us have questions. That's it. Okay, I'll say both. We'll go with uh the Tigger movie. Okay. Let's go. Or somebody who doesn't have that much on their list is he's struggling to give us an online spy kids three, game over. Watch that a lot. And we'll say Probably Night at the Museum. Okay, I'll allow it. It's a fun family movie, but hey, I'll allow it. Alright, so I'ma go with my four, I'ma go with The Page Master, an underrated Macaulay Coke movie, Blank Check, which is another underrated movie. Like it should be on my list, but my list is just so stacked. I'ma go with Star Kid. I know you never heard of this movie, but Star Kid's a great movie. Yeah, and she's the fucking Iron Man movie. Yeah. Basically, pretty much. But like I love that movie as a kid. And then my fourth one, to show you how serious I am, I'm gonna go with The Sand Lot. I'll watch that movie. Yeah, I was that was a wild experience as a kid. Yeah. But John, what do you just saw? Number 20, what do you guys be coming in? Anthony, I lied. There's only two on this thing. Okay. I'm joking, I'm fucking with you. I'll say. If you only got two, I could supply 18. Ain't worried about that. I'll say this. Let's go with Rango. This is always one I enjoyed as a kid. I'm gonna be real with you. I didn't like it upon first watch. It took me like three or four watches to actually like this movie. Yeah, I love Rango. Rango was Rango was fun. I was always a fan of like the desert. I'm still a fan of the desert settings now. I I live in a desert. Yeah, yeah, get close to your phone. Oh yeah, can you hear me a little better now? Yeah, it's like you got it's like you're speaking in a tunnel. That's where I was at. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but no, I mean I like I like the desert setting. I think like I like how dry this movie feels. I was gonna say to me it was very dry. Like in in in the cinematography and in the tone, it's very dry. Oh no, 100%. Yeah. Definitely the first time I ever walked out of a movie needing to drink. Yeah, that'll do that. And you know, I mean, like, just just fun. Definitely like brought me a little closer to the good old Johnny Depp's work. And it's it's just a fun, it's a fun time. Fun time. It is. I think I was like 11 or 12 when that movie came out. Okay. Um, I'm gonna go with the surprise pick here. And this one, I don't know a lot of people have seen this movie. It means a lot to me. I used to watch this movie a lot as a kid. Had the VHS, yes, I said VHS. I had the VHS, and I don't know if a lot of people resonate, you know, it's since we're on the tone of dry movies. It's the movie isn't in dry as in aesthetic as it is like the comic. And the movie I'm talking about is none other than Harriet the Spy. I do know this movie. Yeah, it's 1996. It's got Michelle uh Trantenberg, R.I.P. You remember the girl from her name's Vanessa Lee Chester? She played Malcolm's, Dr. Malcolm's daughter in Lost World, Black Girl. Uh no. You don't remember Lost World with Jeff Goldblum? I remember it. I don't remember this girl. Remember he had his daughter, she was black. But anyway, she did gymnastics and shit like that. Yeah. Has Rosie O'Donnell, Bertha Kitts in this movie. Like, dude, I love this movie, man. Like, I don't know what about this movie I like so much, but the guy, Gregory Smith, he played also in another movie I'll bring up later. He's a prominent child actor. Very good movie, man. Like, in about keeping secrets and keeping your thoughts. You know what I mean? Very good coming of age movie. Like, definitely one I show my children. But yeah, man, I love this movie. I really do. I think this is gonna really like show our age gap here. Yeah, I mean, as it should. But what do you got coming in at number 18, man? Okay, man. I got so you know I like to stick to one for franchise. Yeah. So I'm a little conflicted here, and I think I'm gonna come back to this one, and I'm gonna go with uh the one of the first movies that I saw as a kid that I remember like being stuck up on because of the soundtrack. Okay, and that's Ice Age, man. You know, I'm gonna say something, and a lot of people are gonna give me flag. I don't care for Ice Age at all. I mean, it's okay to be wrong. I'm not saying I I didn't say nothing was wrong with people who like Ice Age. I didn't say it was a bad movie. I just don't care for the I love Ray Romano, I love John Lequizamo, I just don't like Ice Age. It's just not I'm not saying I don't if if Ice Age is on, I'm probably turning the channel. You know what's crazy, man? What's up? We went on this whole like, I don't have a childhood, and you know. Yeah. And I and I'm gonna I give you a movie and you're like, no, John. I'm not telling you no, I'm just telling you for me. I'm I'm just joking. Yeah, yeah. I'm just saying, I'm just saying for me, it's just it just doesn't, it's just not it. I think that was my first uh first introduction to Dennis Leary, Ray Romano, and John Liguzambo. Okay. I mean that was my first introduction of Jack Black, but definitely a solid fit. Yeah, I mean, like, it's got the advantage of, you know, I'm on my way, it's it's super fun, like it just uh like the the whole like familial bond introduced to me to one of my favorite animals in the prehistoric era being the good old big cats. Super sick. It's you know, like I mean, it's just a good message at the core of everything. Yeah. And it's, you know, freaking hilarious. Like definitely, definitely got something to say. Yeah. Oh, and scrat, of course. I mean, who can forget scratch? But like I said, man, I respect Ice Age franchise. It's just not me. Maybe I need to sit down. Yeah, maybe I need to revisit. There's only a handful of DreamWorks movies that I love. I don't even think this is DreamWorks. I think this is Blue Sky Studios. Oh, really? It might be. To me, it screams Dreamworks. I swear. Yeah, it might be Blue Sky because it's part of Fox. That is right. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. You're right. Yeah, I mean, like, I might be tripping, right? No, I'm not calling, I'm not saying you trip. I'm not gonna say you trip. Yeah, I'm here. I'll check right now. No, you're good. I'm saying you're right, because it's on Disney Plus. If it was DreamWorks, it wouldn't be on fucking Disney Plus. Yeah. Well, we were both right. So it's Blue Sky and Fox. Yeah, that's what I said. I said it's it's gotta be Blue Sky because it's produced by Fox. That's what I'm saying. Yes. Alright. So here I go with number 17. This would be my what second pick, right? Yeah, second pick. Alright, alright. I gotta go with something. I think I brought this movie up one time on on the on the podcast. I'm not sure if I did. But this when I sit think of childhood movies for me that I rented or I own, that I constantly watch. This is no great. If we go on critically wise, this is not a great movie. But for me, I love this movie. I watch it all day. I gotta go with Rock O'Doodle. I don't know if you ever heard of this movie. It's called Rock A Doodle. All right, so the movie is about a boy named Edmund. He lives on a farm, and his mom, his mom reads him this book. It doesn't start off as a book, right? It starts off as the cartoon where you see the characters in the book, and then you realize that his mom is reading this book before bedtime about this rooster named Chanticleer. Chanticleer crows on the farm and the sun race. You know, they think that the animals on the farm think that the sun raced because of Chanticleer, all right? And this owl pays this guy to come through and beat up Chanticleer, and then the sun comes up without Chanticleer crowing, and all the animals make him feel bad about it, so he leaves the farm. Alright? Flash is this is a blend of live action and anime, right? So shows that his mom are reading the book to him, and then uh there's a storm happening on their farm, the actual farm that they live on. So the little boy touches the owl's monocle. What was it, monocle, right? Yeah, touches the owl's monocle in the book and it cracks. So the bear with me when I'm telling you this. The damn owl burst through the door, not through the wall, because a tree fell through the wall or whatever, and he turns the little boy into a cartoon cat. And turns out that all the animals are there, whatever. They go on this adventure to bring Sean to Claire Black. But I tell you, dude, this is one of the most this was my Brave Little Toaster before Brave Little Toaster. Damn. Yeah, it's a it's a heavy story. I ain't gonna say heavy. It's it's you know, it's a good story. I ain't gonna lie. My kids love this one. Like I've watched it with my kids, it holds up to the day. But by far, some of the first country music songs that I've ever seen. Remember Christopher Plummer, the voice actor? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he plays, he plays the dog in this one. Yeah, Christopher. I've seen this logo. I've never seen this movie. Yeah, you should, dude. It's it's it's like I said, it's not by any means groundbreaking, but musical-wise, yeah, it's one of my favorites, right? I didn't even lie. And then Sean Declair is basically Elvis. Real shit. He leaves the farm, goes to like Las Vegas, becomes this big hit, like dead tears, and they gotta bring him back to the farm because the sun hasn't come up since he left. Hasn't stopped raining since he left. Damn. Yeah, dude, when I tell you, it's it's a big story about like remembering who you are, where you come from. I mean, and like, dude, and accepting people through their false dude, it's a good story. It's a good story. But John, enough about my story. What is number 16, man? I don't know, man. It's not like I got a story to tell. All right, you know, he's over here. I'm joking. I'm joking. Guys, please please don't. Like, I didn't have a childhood. I promise it's not. Um, but man, next up on the list, I got you know what? I got seven slots left. Yeah. Yeah. You know what, man? Come on, man. Come with it. Come with it. I gotta do it, yeah. I got Scooby-Doo Monsters Unleashed. Okay. This is live action, right? Or is this the cartoon? No, no, live action. My cartoon pick was um, I was stuck between this or uh zombie island. Alright, I said your damn, let's say your mic was like under your chin or something, we couldn't hear you. But I I understood what you said then. Yeah, it was so but zombie island is is like my baby, and I love that more now, like as an adult. As a kid, I loved Monsters Unleashed, dude. Like, I was such a sucker for like the big goop monster that it is. Yeah. I remember for Halloween, I went as the the green scuba diver guy. And then on top of that, there was also the like just the like the wackiness of it, kind of the uncanny valley. It was the first time a movie I was kind of freaked out by because you know, like the scene where they were cogin shaggy, I always thought was like real intense. Hey, and uh James Gunn directed this. Wow. Is that the first movie, right? It's the first live action movie, right? Or is it the second one? The second one, second one. Okay, James Gunn directed the first one. I don't know who directed the second one. I mean, I'll check right now. But if he did that, this is this is explaining. This is very telling. Yeah, I said James Gunn. I know James Gunn directed the first one. Uh, it was Raja Gonsnell. Yeah, you don't talk about that. That guy directed Smurfs 2 and Honey Blown through the game. James Gunn James Gunn did the screenplay for the first one. He didn't direct it. And he did the screenplay for the second one. Yeah, Raja Gunsnill directed the first one as well. Okay, okay. I gotta I gotta revisit these. I ain't gonna lie to you. I had fun with them as a kid. I really did. Uh just I just gotta revisit them. I don't remember them that much. They weren't like on replay. Dude, Matt Matthew Lillard, super iconic performance, not to forget Freddy Prince Jr., Sarah Michelle Geller that awakened something in me as a child. Uh Linda Cartellini. You know, as a kid, I always thought it was weird. You know how they'd be like Linda Carl, like they told like Linda Cartellini that she was the unattractive woman in this movie. Even as a kid, I was like, I think like her more than Daphne. I mean, let's be real. I mean, attraction aside, Velma is way more useful than Daphne. But she's just, yeah, she's better. Daphne Sutton. Yeah, she's way more useful. I mean, you know. But giant pterodactyls, I think this might have been my first Seth Green movie. Possibly. So, I mean, yeah, I guys, this is really speaking to our age difference here. Yeah, I mean, like I said, I watched it. I liked it, but I mean, I just it just wasn't one of those things that I went back to. But um, so for my next pick, which is what pick what? Seven for you. Yeah, so 14. Um, I believe 14. Yeah, so pick seven for me. My number three. We can do math, guys. Yeah. So my number seven pick. I'm gonna let you choose because I I'm coming into my top is kind of hard. So should I choose the Disney movie that I have, or should I choose the Nickelodeon movie that I had? I mean, I know your number one is probably gonna be Disney. You sure about that. So I'm gonna say Nickelodeon. You sure about that? So I'd almost spent money. So the movie that you you chose Nickelodeon, right? Yeah, Nickelodeon. Okay. Because I had an uncut, I had a Disney gym here. It's like I don't know a lot of people know about this one. But uh, I'll mention in honorable mentions, uh, our second honorable mentions. But I'm going with the Rugrats movie, man. I saw this movie in theaters as a kid. I love this movie. You know, if you ask me which one is better, this one or in Paris, it's a toss-up. I didn't lie to you. I love both of them equally. But this one, I got to see one of my favorite cartoons in theater as a movie. Groundbreaking, had the Reptar Mobile, got introduced to Dill Pickles, and about being, you know, like owning being a big brother and changes in life. You know? Yeah, you know, I do always forget how fucked up this show was. No, the show was not mediocre. The show is peak. Thank you very much. Watch him out. But yeah, man, uh, this movie, this movie hits on a bunch of different levels, and I think the emotional level gets boosted up by number two, searching for a mom and stuff, but like I had to go with the original movie here. That is that is always something I do forget, man. So like, yeah, like he had to he had to find. A new mom for him and his sister. Yeah, but that's no, he had to find a new mom for himself. See, don't you know? Oh, yeah, and then he got a sister. That's what it was. He got a sister. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but we're talking about part one where Tommy gets a new baby brother. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, they go, they go to France or whatever. No, that's in part two. That's part two? Yeah, okay. I must probably see the first one. Yeah. Yeah. The first one is Dil is born and they get they end up accidentally leaving the house and getting stranded in the woods. This was good. My cousin, my cousin cried in this movie. Spoiler alert, because we thought Spike died. Yeah, she cried in this movie. I'll bring it up to her occasional. I remember it like it was yesterday. But John, what are you bringing in at your at your number six, man? Okay. I'm gonna have to say. Let's go with you know what? I did Scooby-Doo. As a nice little like a counter to that, I'm gonna say Big Hero Six. Okay, this was yeah, dude. Like, I mean, you know, I was like 13, 12, 13 when this movie came out. And just like I remember Baymax was hilarious, everybody loved it. It was such just such a fun movie. I'm pretty sure I saw this for my birthday because it came out like right around my birthday. You know, it was it just got some fun action, like it's it's the good version of Disney where they can have like an emotional story and fun characters and the goofy. But again, just like that little extra weight to it. Like, this was one that I could like watch non-stop. It was super super entertaining. I loved the setting of like San Francisco and Tokyo. Was like a wild combo that I didn't know you could pull off. Yeah. The whole like superhero team come to find out these guys are very different than the Marvel comic books, but yeah. And Kingdom Hearts is doing a little bit of legwork here because of Sora, you have to ride on Baymax's back. This guy. I love this movie. Uh, me and my daughter, my oldest daughter, used to do the handshake. Like we used to do the handshake. Like, yeah, man. I I love this movie. It's by far one of my if I had to do a Disney, this would this would probably have to make the cut. Anybody. If we're talking just modern Disney? Yeah, I mean, not even modern Disney. Like, overall, this would make the cut. Depending on how how many selections we get, this would have to make the cut. I ain't even gonna lie to you. I love this book. Bada la da la da da. That's right. So that also, bro, if you hate May Max, you just have no idea. You got a problem. Yeah, you got a problem. So, talking about a little guy who feels like he ain't got no hope in the world, no friends at all, and somehow ends up finding a big friend that he can ride on, coming in at my number six spot, free willy. This makes sense. I I I should have known this was gonna be on your Yes, dude. I was gonna be higher, but I had to ride that big hero six wave. It was gonna be higher. It was gonna be way higher. I ain't gonna lie, but I had to ride that wave unintended, okay? Unintended. I love this. I love this movie. Like, love this. I love the first two, maybe first two movies for sure. I gotta revisit the third one. But love this movie, love, love, love, love, love this movie. Like by far, one of the most movies I re-watched as a kid. Michael Jackson's song, I'll Be There. I think, I think that's a song. Let me check. I think it was Yeah, Will You Be There? Will You Be There? That man, yes, peak. Peak at his best. Then you get the scene where Jesse fists in the air, Willie jumps above him. We knew this, we know this would not happen in real life, but I don't care, okay? As a kid, I wanted a whale. I wanted a pet Orca, okay? That's this movie is the reason orca's are my favorite marine animal, all right? Still to this day, actually, Chris. Yes, still still to this day. Like dead serious. And this movie I like that if you look at the logo, it looks like he's punching a whale. Yeah, and this movie came out, dude. I was what, five? I was five. Crazy work. Damn. Crazy work, bro. Still love this movie to this day. Big shout out. Big shout out to Michael Madsen in this movie as Glenn. R.I.P. August Schillenberg, R.I.P. Like, I I love this movie, dude. Lori Petty in this movie, Jane Atkins in this movie. Like, this movie is undefeated, bro. This movie is undefeated. Damn. Yeah, Star-studded cast. I've definitely seen it. Like, I've definitely seen Free Willy, but it's been years. You're doing yourself a disservice. You shouldn't watch it. By dead serious. I know that the the third one, they like ride on the whale or whatever. They ride on the whale and all of them, sir. Amen. Yeah. A fun fact, a lot of people don't remember this. Free Willie actually had a cartoon, and it kind of pissed me off as a kid because in the cartoon they made Willie talk, and it was dumb as shit. I'm sorry. What the fuck? Yes. I'm not making this shit up. Look it up. In the cartoon, they made I hate yes, dude. It's like, man, listen. In the 90s, we got every if it was a movie, it got a damn cartoon. Ghostbusters had a cartoon. More than one cartoon. Ghostbusters, I think it had like two or three cartoons. Yeah, and it had fucking real eyes. Jesse could understand Willie. They would talk like this was the Wild Thorn Bears before Wild Thorn Bears. I don't know if you're what's the dude's name from fucking Inspector Gadget, the evil guy. I'm blanking on his name. The claw. Yes. Yeah, dude. They had a fucking villain. There was a villain in this movie, dude. I mean, in the show, like there was a pair of seals that could talk. Like, it was really weird ass trip of a show. Jesse could understand animals. Like I said, this was damn. This was the Wild Thorn Bears before the Wild Thorn Bears. Literally came out like a year after the movie. It like, dude, I was so pissed at this show. Like when I said I was pissed at the show, I was pissed at this show. I did not like it. But like Men in Black had a cartoon. A lot of a lot of other we would do this. We'll do this on the episode. But John, what's your number five pick, man? Yeah, so man, this was probably my first 14 or like slightly more serious cinema. With probably my first like more serious cinema. Like actually, certainly one of the first movies. Certainly one of the first movies. When I have the lion movies, the first one from 2005. Chronicles of Narnia. Okay. Okay. Um definitely like threw me off as a kid when they uh they killed the lion and they were cutting his hair off, and then my mom was like, you know, it's an allegory for Jesus. And I was like, what? You know, being a very like small child and not understanding things. Yeah. And you know, they like just like it threw me off too. Like the kids when they got older, I was like, wait, kids like grow up in movies, like they're not just like that age. You know, like I probably my first Tilda Switch movie. Not a hundred percent sure on that. Yeah, I either what mine was. I couldn't tell you what mine was, how could I I I like this movie. I my favorite fan theory about this one is that all those all four kids grew up to create Hogwarts. I've heard that theory before. I've normally heard that theory. I love I love that theory, I think. I remember hating the third one as a kid because the older brother and sister aren't there. Yeah. And the first one, or at the end of the second one, they're like, oh, we can't go back to Narnia. And then at the end of the third one, they're like, we can't go back to Narnia. And I'm like, then what the fuck was the point of coming back? I mean, like I said, man, I uh it's it's one of those one of those film franchises that I knew the story before that came out. We read the book in school and then we watched like the old 80s, 70s, 80s movie of it. Oh yeah, because it's not the first version of this. No, it's not. It's not, dude. There's a whole damn like a like a whole series of these things that were made in England. Yeah, I wanted to see the Golden Compass as a kid because I wanted to see a little kid ride on a bear. Because I was like, I could ride on a bear. Yeah, not a polar bear. Yeah, not a polar bear. Um, also had the game, which is doing a little bit of legwork here, and uh that was super hard because I got to the very end of the game, and I could never beat like the second and the last level. Yeah, so I'd always have to watch the movie to know what happened. So yeah, it was it was rough. And I tried beating that level several times, but it did not work. Alright. So solid pick, though. That's a solid pick. I give I know I give you shit about your picks. That's a solid pick, though. I give I respect. Respect. But guys don't need us to it because then the next one he's gonna be like, damn, what the fuck, John? Yeah, you had you were stealing so good. So most of these are live action for me, except for one, and I'm gonna put that one towards the top. Let me see. Yeah, so I'm gonna drop this one. I'm gonna drop that one. All right. So coming in at number five for me, I gotta go with my first introduction that I remember of one of my favorite comedians. And like, and I know you're like, what? When I say it, you're gonna be like, what? Yeah. But this movie also gave me two of my favorite comedians, honestly. But uh, I love this movie, still watch it to this day, and it's none other than 1995's heavyweight. I think I know this movie. It's with the fucking sub, right? Yeah, but uh yeah, it's Ben Stiller, Keenan Thompson, Sean Weeze. I do this stat cast. Jerry Stiller, Ben's dad, he makes an appearance. It's about a bunch of kids going to Fat Cam. And as a as a as a surplus-sized kid, as a is the movie made me feel so good. It did. Yeah, fun fact though movie was shot in North Carolina. That's sick, yeah, shot in Henderson, North Carolina. That's that's so funny. But yeah, man, I love this movie. Like great movie, great movie, bro. A lot of the cash from Mighty Ducks is here. I don't have Mighty Ducks on my list because I replaced it with this. That's a wild trade. Yeah, quack. I replaced it. I I replaced Mighty Ducks with two picks. It's two picks. You'll know the next when I say it. But yeah, man, nah, man. This this had Aaron Schwartz as Gerald. Aaron Schwartz was another child actor. He was a big kid. He was in Mighty Ducks. Keenan Thompson was in Mighty Ducks. Sean Wace played Goldberg in Mighty Ducks. But yeah, man, this was like for a for a fat kid, yes. This movie made me very proud. Yes, it was. This movie made me very happy to be a fat kid. And it's never been cool. This movie made it cool to be a fat kid. By far, one of the best Ben Stiller's performances you've ever seen. That's Ben Stiller is insane. Ben Stiller is so unhinged. Do you remember Dodgeball? Yeah. This is him as the same person from Dodgeball, probably 10 years before Dodgeball. That's insane. That's insane. Tony Perkins, him as Tony Perkins in this movie, is that analogy right there, insane. Fucking crazy. Yeah, because he turns this, he buys this fat camp. And these kids, these kids love this camp, right? And he buys this camp and turns it into like a infomercial type deal. Yeah, it's it's funny, bro. When I say it's funny, it's funny. I was waiting for you to keep going and then you just stop. And I was like, Well, like, man, I'm just saying, he tried to make these kids, he he tortures these kids and tried to make them work out and do. I mean, it's hilarious, bro. It's hilarious. Like, it's hilarious. And they're just like, oh, we're okay. Yeah, like, dude, there they get food snuck in. Like, there's a scene where he weighs the kids. Oh my God. He said, he's a he said, Gerald Garner, get on the scale, son. Dude gives us a scale. He's get off the damn scale. Get off the scale. Like, I'm telling you, dude, it's funny as shit. You gotta watch this movie, John. As a fat kid, you have to watch. You like you're gonna be like, why didn't I watch this movie as a kid? Where was this movie at when I was a kid? Like dead serious. I'm so happy I grew up with this movie. I really am. Damn. Yeah, like dude, this movie, yeah, this movie definitely tops high for me. That's kind of insane. Yes. He's like, who's the like there's that's where the first time I heard this joke, he's like, who does this candy belong to? He said, I'ma tell him, I'ma tell him. He says, it belongs to Seymour Butts. He says, Seymour Butts, who's Seymour Butts? Nobody's Seymour Butts than you, Uncle Tony. Dude, I'm telling you, like, it's it's dumb as hell. It's a good movie. I've heard that line. I've heard that line for sure. When when you watch this movie, you're gonna be like, damn, he's in here. Dude, Tim Blake Nelson is in here. Wow. Yeah. Jeffrey Tambar is in here. Like, dude, it's a stat cast, bro, for a kid's movie. That's insane. Yeah, stat cast for a kid's movie. But uh, what's your number four, man? What's your number four? All right. You mean my number five? No, this is my number five. This is number four. Yeah, you're right. You're right. My number four. My number four. I'm sorry. Yeah, this is number four. I can't count. But I gotta go. Yeah. Yeah. Gotta go on my heart here. Mago with the first movie I saw in theaters, found this out as I got older. And I watched the shit out of this movie. I've probably, it's like, you know, if we were looking at like our stats on a stat sheet of like movies we've seen the most, man, I've probably watched Nemo 5,000 times. I mean, hey, dude, I don't blame. I fun fact, I bought that movie for my little brother for his birthday. I don't remember what birthday. It was whatever the year that movie came out, and it was on DVD. So I think. So probably 2003-2004. Yeah, probably early 2004, because it was on DVD and his birthday is in February. So shout out my brother Zach. 2003. Yeah. Shout out to my brother Zach. I bought that for him for his birthday in 2000. Wow. Yeah, I remember that. As a birthday gift, yeah. I bought that for. Yeah, this this was one that, like, dude, I'm not gonna lie. Like, Nemo is another one of those movies where it's like, if you don't like it, you're wrong. Yeah. Just objectively, you're wrong. It's so pretty, it's so colorful. The message at the core of it of just family and what it means to be with your family, and like actually being with your people, not just there at your people. Like, like, movie's super beautiful. It's got great, great, great action, acting, cinematography. Like, easy to forget that the cast is really not all that sat stacked outside of like Willem Dafoe, Ellen DeGeneres, and like Alison. But yeah, just like you know, man, it I think it is hard to watch this movie and actually like earnestly walk away and you're like, that was fucking dog shit, stinky poo-poo garbage. Well, man, maybe you just don't like fun. I mean, I've never I've never heard I've never heard of my speaking bad about Find an Emo. Well, you know, man, you've got to remember, we've got some friends of ours that have less than substantiating taste. Yeah. But uh, nah, man, find an emo is a great movie. It's by far, it's on rotation in my house easily. Easily. I'm not gonna lie, this is a movie I do owe a rewatch. Okay, I got you. But uh yeah, man. Find an emo. I like finding I like finding dory. I remember being okay. I thought finding a dory was like fine. Yeah, I mean, I like finding dory, that's what I'm saying. But but if you have nothing else to say. Yeah, I mean, unless you have something you want to add to it, like I said, I look I like finding emo, that's what I'm saying. So but the movie I'm gonna bring up is the reason Little Giants and Casper isn't on my list. Because they do star, I mean, Mighty Ducks and Casper isn't on my list. And I kind of gave it away there. My next movie is Little Giants. Oh, yeah. Also, this is the reason Honey I Blew Up the Kid and Honey I Shrunk the Kid isn't on my list. They might be better movies, but to me, Little Giants was the reason I wanted to play Pee-Wee football. Real talk. Wow. Yeah, Lil Giants is the reason I wanted to play Pee-We football. And in this cast, dude, Rick Moranis, Ed O'Neill, like, bro, that's just the adults. Then you got cameos from John Madden, you got cameos from damn Emmett Smith. Like, dude, the the cast is damn stack, or Bruce Smith, forgot about Bruce Smith in here. But then, you go to the kids, you know, like, man, the kids casting, but I'm gonna tell you what. One kid in particular, Devin Sawa, aka Casper from the live-action Casper movie, and he was Alex from Final Destination, and he's been in every single Chunky episode of the Chucky series. And also, also, he played Stan in Eminem Stan Video. Wow. Didn't know that, did you? No, that's that's that's a fun one. That's a fun little Yeah, a little tidbit, right? But yeah, man, little Little Giants is about it, ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's about the sp the fight, the size of the fight in the dog. I love this movie. Watch this movie religiously to this day. I'm telling you, growing up, there was nothing like watching. This is that's why I say they don't make kids' movies like they used to. And this is one of the ones, bro. This is one of them ones. Ed O'Neill, Rick Morandis at each other's throat as brothers. Yeah, dude. It it this is one of the ones, bro. This is this is one of the ones. I don't know if you ever see this. I don't know if you ever see this. Yeah, I'm like, I'm I'm speaking into the void. Yeah, dude. You just you listen. Even if you're not a football fan, you're an underdog fan. This is the underdog. The dog story, bro. Well, you know I love me. You do know I love me a good football. That's what I said. That's what I said. But dude, if I I'm gonna tell you like this, in football movies, this is in my top five. Easily. Top five, easily. And I'm pretty sure it's not five either. And we're talking a class, we're talking about a class with Friday Night Lights, Any Given Sunday, with Remember the Titans. Like this is Little Giants, yes, are my top, those are my top four football movies that I can think of. And Sean Aston's in this one, right? Or am I mixing that up with a different one? Sean Aston. No, that's the Rudy. Rudy? Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. There we are. There we are. I was like, I'm mixing this up with something. Yeah, Sean Aston's and Rudy. You're right. You're right. Yeah, it's the other Sean Aston. Yeah. But yeah, dude, you're talking about this isn't good company, bro. Barsley, like, if I had to pick my number five, it'd be either the program or varsity blues. Like. And then this is like right over that. Yeah, like, dude, like, you got some, like, there's some there's some stellar football movies, like, dead serious, but this is in my top five easily. Varsity Blues is is just such a such a fun movie, too. Yeah. RIP James Vanderbeek. Yeah, but let's not get on. We're getting off subject. But yeah, man, Little Giants coming in at number, what, four? At number four for me. All right. My number three. Trace. I've got the one, the only, the kung fu panda too. I knew it was gonna be up there. Uh I knew one of them was gonna be up there. I didn't know. Because Anthony, what do I like? I like what stories. You like fat kids who like to eat and and also get their ass whooping when it looks like it's too hard, they they prevail. Or an underdog story. Could have just said underdog story, no problem. Yeah. And yeah, bro, this is Would you say it's kind of underbearing? Yeah, you stubs your toe today. Yeah, I know, right? You might you might need to just watch out, man, because you you might stub your toe today. Yeah. But no, bro, I mean, I was like 10 years old when this movie came out. Not even like, you know, just great action. It was kind of my first introduction to like what a good villain is with Gary Oldman as Lord Chin. Yeah. Tigris was, you know, kind of like that first introduction to like a badass woman to me, and that women can also be badass in movies. And I was like, oh shit, like I didn't know that was a thing, you know, because I'm a little dumb kid, right? Yeah. Ho is is awesome, love that underdog aspect, love that like rooting for for the person. James Hong is Mr. Ping. I'm not gonna lie, bro. If you can get to the end of this movie and he's like, What are you? The spoiler, guys. This movie's almost this movie's 15 years old, yeah. I ain't got no more spoiling this. And he like he hugs him and he's like, I'm your son. I was like, Yeah, yeah, that that that that brings a tear to a grown man's eye. Fun fact, never watched a Kong Fu Panda movie all the way through. Wow. I'm sorry I spoiled this one. I don't care. I really don't care. My kids love these movies. I ain't gonna lie to you. If you can only pick one to see all the way through, this is the one I would tell you to do. Yeah, I don't think I've watched one all completely. I mean, to be fair, my daughters love frozen. I've never seen a frozen movie from beginning to end. Oh yeah. I wish, bro. I've seen that movie. Yeah, so like four times somebody. I've never seen this movie all the way through. But uh but yeah, man, nah. I mean, a solid pick, though. Hey, fair enough. All right, well, I'll slide it to you, man. Well, coming into my number three, and this is by far, and I'll stand on it, the catalyst for me. By far, probably the best kids' comedy acting wise, and like kids' comedy, period. This movie dethroned Dennis the Menace. It dethroned a lot of other movies to be here at my number three spot. It went over Little Giants. Little Giants is another top kid's comedy, like where the kid acting is great. You get what I'm saying? And kid acting is kid acting is such an art where it's it's a it's a it's an art where people don't give enough light to. But this cast, this cast, the reason it beats, because this cast is 100% about the kids. When I say 100% about the kids, yes, I know I could put home alone here. I had home alone on my Christmas thing. I love Home Alone. We all know this. But this cast is 99.9% children. There's only a few adult scenes here. A few. That speaks volumes, right? Am I tripping? I don't know. I think that's in a lot. And this movie is none other than 1994's The Little Rascals. Oh, this movie sucks. Is what I'd say if I didn't have taste, bumming. But like, dude, this movie, when I tell you, this is by far one of the best acting like kids' movies of all time. Like, I'm telling you, like, yeah, Whoopi Goldberg's in here. He who must not be named is in here because you know, we ain't trying to get flagged by the Secret Service. But uh there's a cameo. The cameos in this movie is wild. You got cameos from Whoopi Goldberg, you got cameos from Donald Trump. Mel Brooks is in this movie, bro. I do forget that. I do forget. I guess I forget how old this movie is, too, like, you know, being almost 40 now. Yeah, cheers. Cheers on George Wendit. It's in here. Reba, Reba McIntyre is in here. Yeah, because she kisses Thanky. Raven Simone, the Olsen twins, all from Cameos. I had to look it up, right? Because I was like, I think this would be okay. You want to take a shot at what the critic score is? 21%. I'm looking at it. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, 21%. I mean, like I said before, the critics do not the critics are not kind to kids' children. So I I don't go by the critic score when it comes to kids' movies. I go by the audience score. Yeah, you gotta be a little careful depending on what you got. Yeah, well, kids' movies always go with the audience score. I don't care. Go with the audience score, man. You won't say Super Mario Galaxy. None audience got that right. But anyway, but yeah, man, I love this movie. I quote this movie like this movie is in my DNA. I love, like I said, dude, there's only a few adult scenes in this movie. The kids do the heavy lifting here. But John, what is your what is your silver medal? This is hard. I don't I don't want to pick, man. You gotta pick, brother. You gotta pick. Anthony, can you answer me one question? What's that, brother? Is number one a Disney movie on your list? No, number two is okay. I'm gonna take this risk. If it's not here, it is the last chance I'm gonna offer. You ain't gotta worry about all my picks come from the 90s. Okay, so that's definitely gonna make this an option. Alright, well, my number two is Ratatouille. Because this is nowhere near my list. Nowhere near my list. Oh, don't worry. This is not the movie I'm asking about. Okay. Because I mean, bro, this is a movie that made me love food, acting, cinematography, color, the like the use of your environment. I made me like love plants and the culture of it. I liked the idea of being able to go wherever to, you know, just pay your bills or be took care of, and that was super nice. And it was I mean, just like truly drop dead gorgeous, like some of the best animation I've ever seen. Like Rinnie showing them like what flavor is and what it is to like combine these flavors. It's just beautiful. And if you haven't seen it, watch it. That's our recommendation. Watch it. I think it's okay, but you know, that's each is all. All right, we'll go ahead, Anthony. Give me your number two. You don't want me to say nothing. I can't say nothing about your pick, man. No, no, you you you lost all rights after that one, man. I'll be real. I think it I think it's an okay movie. Like, that's here. I think it's beautiful. I think I do. I think it's beautiful. No. I think it's beautiful. I do. I like the message. I just think it's an okay movie. I don't, it doesn't do anything for me. If it's on, I'll watch it. I won't I won't ice age it, you know? I just think it's okay. Out of 10, I give it like a seven. Out of ten. Yeah. It's not for me. Like I said, for me. But like, it's not nothing I'm gonna go out my way and watch. I do think Big Hero 6 is better. But like I said, this is your list. And and like I respect it. Solid pick. It's a solid pick. You know what? I'll take it. It's a great movie. Again, best movie DreamWorks has ever put out, no question. Pixar. I'm sorry. Pixar. It's not. But uh yeah, it's not even close. Uh but I gotta go with undoubtedly the unsung hero of the Disney movies that doesn't get as much respect and love as when you think a Disney movie, right? You think songs, you think a good warm message, you you said something that makes you feel, right? And and this movie is nothing but feels from beginning to end. And I gotta give it to none other than the second best movie to come out of the 90s. And that's that's none other than a goofy movie. Oh man, this movie, I I you know what, I love it too. I just I didn't give a pop on it. It's a goofy, listen, man, from beginning to end, every song hits Tevin Campbell coming in as Power Line, Goofy making his way to be probably my favorite Disney character. Like, on top, because Goof Troop was already out, and Goof Troop was a hit. And then you hit us with this, and it was just like, bro, yeah. I like Goofy more than I do Mickey. So yeah, there's that. So yeah, man, no, I love this movie from beginning to end. Quote it can sing every song. If Lion King didn't exist, this probably would be my favorite Disney movie. Yeah, I mean, that's fair. Yeah. Oh, you need to spoil number one. Dude, you're my I can't I can't hear you, bro. I can't hear anything. I said, look you spoiling your number one pick. Lion King's not on my list. Oh, damn. Yeah. Like, dude, I'm gonna tell you, I told you I had two Disney movies on my list, and both of them were deep cuts. One less than a deep cut before the other one. If you want to know what my other Disney movie was, I'll tell you. You want me to tell you? Yeah. What was it? Aladdin, King of Thieves. Oh, the sequel movie. The third movie. Because the sequel was Return of Jafar. Fun fact Robin Williams did not return for Return of Jafar. He returned for the third movie, which went straight to DVD. I mean, straight to home video at the time. The guy who voices Homer Simpson played Genie in Return of Jafar. That is a wild gasping decision. I couldn't hear that. You just said, dude, what do you do with your phone? I was just, I was readjusting my mic. Yeah. But you said that was a what? Wild gasping decision. Yeah. I mean, Robin Williams didn't come back, man, because in the first one, he said he didn't want to be his voice and nothing be used for toys. Nothing to make for profit. You get what I'm saying? And they they went without, they went against his wishes and did it, but luckily he came back for the third movie, though. He did come back. Yeah. Yeah, I don't even acknowledge Return of Jafar. But anyway, yeah, Lion King didn't make this list. Not saying Lion King is undoubtedly my favorite Disney movie of all time. But depending on the day, your favorite movie of all time. Depending on the day, possibly. But like I said, I gotta go with I gotta go with something else different here. I wanted to give you guys a deeper look inside of my mind. But uh John, what's your number one? Oh, well, it was Lion King. Lion King. Oh, Lion King's your number one? Lion King's my number one. That's why I was asking you. It's not a Disney movie. Oh, no. I'm not Disney. I mean, solid pick, though. Yeah, I mean, look, I'm gonna keep this short and simple. It's beautiful. Everybody loves it. The greatest animated movie Disney has ever put out. The greatest greatest animated movie of all time. Sorry. Say what you want. Yeah. Greatest movie Disney has put out in a lot of factors. Yeah. And it's just like, and dislike in this movie is like disliking puppies. Yeah, if you don't like Lion King, I don't I can't trust you. Yeah, like you get you gotta have some deep-seated drama. You gotta you gotta get your shit checked out, bro. Yeah, you got some issues. Beautiful, greatest Disney soundtrack of all time. Like Yeah. Shout out to Jason Weaver as young Simba singing. Yeah, underrated, always feel like he gets forgotten in the world of Matthew Rodriguez. No. Fucking Jason Weaver. This movie is the reason Jason Weaver got the Michael Jackson pick for uh Jackson and American Dream. Which I guys, I found out it's free on YouTube. I do remember. Hold on, no, no, no, no. Other way around. It's either that or the other way around. I can't remember. Yeah. Jackson American Dream is the reason he got this movie. That's right. That's right. One of the it's either that. Yeah, I think it is, yeah. Yeah. So but yeah, Jackson American Dream is on YouTube. So yeah, watch it. Damn. That's crazy. That's really crazy. Yep, him playing Michael Jackson is the reason he got it. Wow. That's a man. And this is the reason he was on Smart Guy. That's also TV show. TV show, yeah. But yeah, man, uh, I love it. It's not my number one today. But do you want to know what my number one is? It is. I'm just gonna tell you. You're not gonna guess it. I was like, you're not gonna guess it. I promise you you won't guess it. Power Rangers the movie. Nope. Was a little further down my list if we had more to go. I ain't gonna lie. This movie, and people say what they want, and I'm crowning her right now. This movie is led by the best child actress of all time. Oh, I think I know it. This movie is led by the best child actress of all time. And say what you want, say what you want, but she is the greatest child actress of all time. I have never seen another child actress convey emotion, intelligence, empathy, sympathy, name all of them, and in maturity, is the one that the great Mara Wilson, and especially in her role in the 1996 Matilda. This is Matilda, is the greatest children's movie ever made. Argue with your parents. It is the greatest children's movie ever made. I'm gonna tell you why. By far, the movie is not only carried by the children acting, every adult in this movie is believable. It it takes a real it takes it's as heartwarming. It doesn't even have songs like that. Uh the song has little bitty pretty ones, you know what I'm saying? Stuff like that, you know what I mean? But like it's dark at times, it's light at times, it's very vibrant, it's a very whimsical, very grounded. It it's it's such it's so good it's an oxymoron. How the hell do you have whimsical and grounded together? Right? Yeah. And not only is this movie directed, acted, and starred Danny DeVito. And I'm gonna tell you like this it's one of the only children's movies that have a 92 by critics. I'll put I will put Matilda up against any other child movie. Kids movie. I will. Lion King, I love Lion King. Lion King to me is the greatest animated. This is the greatest live action kids movie of all time. Damn. Like, dead serious. I don't care what nobody tells me. Like, this Matilda is the greatest. I will stand on business and tell you Matilda is the greatest live-action children movie of all time. Runner, little rascals, probably. But Matilda, Mara Wilson could have been the great, like, her career isn't that long. But let's look at what she has. This movie, she has Mrs. Doubtfire, she has Miracle on 34th Street, a Simple Wish. I don't know if anybody has ever seen The Simple Wish, but her acting in a Simple Wish is uh is dope. Yeah, she she apart pound for pound, acting range, and you know that's how I judge my actors, Sean. Acting range, not what movie they've been in, but acting range, I haven't seen another actress since like her age. She you have think about this girl like six or seven in these movies, bro. Yeah, you can you can dodge it a lot better at that age. Yeah. But like, bro, she listen, man, this movie is only an hour and 38 minutes long. This movie conveys this a convincing story from beginning to end. And like, dude, you get chills in this movie when the creepy shit happens to Miss Miss Miss Trunchable, and you get like, dude, you you feel for this kid, bro. You feel for this kid, and she does a convincing job of it. If you have not seen Matilda, what the fuck are you doing with your life? Yeah, Mara Wilson is I get I this is I guess something I forget that she's done, because she does have kind of like it's not a big distal career. Yeah. Yeah. But like And then let me tell you, let me tell you something I learned. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off. I apologize. You get you good. For this child to give this performance all while her mom was battling breast cancer. Oh, that's super sweet. Dude, Danny DeVito, I'm telling you, after I learned this, this move Danny DeVito way. We talk about actors that deserve their flowers than to be observant. This guy directed, wrote this, he found the book, right? He found the book about this story. Read it to his kids every night in chapters, fell in love with the story, wrote the screenplay, directed the movie, funded the movie. Marl Wilson's mom was going through breast cancer when her parents couldn't be there. She stayed with Danny DeVito. She calls Danny DeVito her favorite. Uncle of all time. Danny DeVito, this is like, guys, I know this taking a whole different turn. But Danny DeVito took her, because Mar Wilson's mom was in the hospital. Wasn't going to be able to make it, terminally ill, wasn't going to be able to make it to see her daughter on the big screen. He brought a cut of the movie to the hospital and had a private screening of the movie for Mar Wilson's mom to see her as Matilda. That's sweet. That's super sweet. Bro, I'm telling you, and I call it glazing, call it whatever you want. This is the best child. Any age can watch it. Any age, any creed can watch it. It's offensive to no one. There's certain things that you could nitpick about other movies. Like, hey, I don't know if that a kid should be seeing this. I don't know if I should be seeing. You know what I mean? There's some things that we could pick from every, like, whether it's a joke that kids doesn't get, that they won't get, that's for the adults. This is a 100% wholesome, well-acted movie. Wow. Like, that's I mean, yeah, that's really like, I don't know, wow. Yeah. And like I said, guys, it's on Netflix. I listen. This movie's on Netflix and I own the Blu-ray. Damn, we know what you're watching tonight. No, no, no. No, I'm not watching it. But I'm just saying, man, my my girls go back to this movie. My son goes back to this movie. I go back to this movie like, dude, this is a great, great, great movie. It's serious. Damn. That's kind of crazy. Yeah. But the fact that you can't tell me I'm wrong, John. Because even though you haven't seen this movie in a while, right? You I don't know if I've ever seen the whole thing. I've definitely seen it. You should watch it. You should watch it. You should get Netflix just to watch this movie. That's a bold state. I think it's on Tubi, but I'll double check. Like I said, you should watch this movie, dude. Dead serious. Whatever, no matter what point this movie is on, I gotta watch it. Dead serious. It's three dollars. It's hilarious. The song, dude. Homeboy. I might buy it. I might buy it. We'll see. We'll see. It's worth buying. Oh boy. Do, do, do, homeboy. That shit's in there. Little bitty pretty one. Like, dude, this is a great movie, bro. Crazy. But guys, I hope you enjoyed our list. I hadn't, I enjoyed making this list. John, about yourself? I know you struggled a little bit. This is extremely difficult. I am mortified for life. Please say help. But guys, let us know your top kids' movies of all time. Even if Matilda is not up at the top, comment wherever you listen to. Let us know what you feel. What's some of your favorite kids' movies? But guys, that has been another edition of One Take Real Talk, and it was all in one take. One shot. Keep it real. Keep it real. Peace. Peace.
