So, guys, we're going to do a double feature because ironically, this is might be our anniversary episode. And I got to check, it comes out tomorrow. This is like the first time we've done this in a minute. This episode is literally recorded the day before we air it. And so we got two features. Has happened since the last time me and John have talked. So we're going to start with the first one we saw, and then we're going to go into the big news box office behemoth that is the Odyssey. So, first and foremost, John, let's talk about the elephant in the room. My favorite, your favorite. Let's talk about Evil Dead.

Yeah. You know, it was beautiful. It was magnificent. And it was violent.

Yeah, I mean, I think I had more problems with the movie than John did, but I mean, it was still an overall good movie.

Yeah, I mean, like, I think this does very much reinforce, especially now with season, what, four of season three or four of the Chucky series. And Scream 7. Yeah. And Evil Dead Burns has officially cemented itself as truly the greatest horror franchise of all time. I mean, me and Anthony have have talked about this on the podcast, I believe, off the podcast. We unanimously agree those are the three best horror franchises.

Yeah, they are. And when you're talking quality and the lows not being that many, and then, you know, continuity is a thing, guys. And that's something that these three have over every single other horror franchise. Yes, there was a Chucky reboot. Yes, there was a Scream TV show, and that's what hurts those two franchises from being number one. But guys, I mean the lowest of the lows, you could say C the Chucky is lower than anything. I got a lot of other arguments though. C the Chucky is still a good time. Yeah, it's it's it's still a good time. I did. I mean, I I I was entertained by Screen 7, but it still was the worst movie I've seen this year so far. And that's a Screen Family.

I'm willing to say this, and I do stand by this. I do think C to Chucky is the worst movie in that franchise. It is. But even your worst movie is still like semi-watchable.

So C the Chucky is better than the um the Friday remake. It's better than the Friday re Friday. I mean, not Friday, uh Nightmare on M Street remake. I was like, hold up. The Friday remake's better than the. No, no, no. It's better than Jason Goes to Hell. It's better than uh a ton of fucking Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm sorry.

I enjoyed it. I was a little more disappointed in it. I wanted it to lean either heavy horror or like a great blend of the comedy, it didn't land for me.

Yeah, and then like the comedy didn't land for me, and it just in like here's my thing. The same thing with the scary movie thing where you said you're gonna go there and everybody's gonna be offended. You promised me the most bloodiest, goriest fucking Evil Dead, and it didn't come close.

I was gonna say, like, I know you and me had both watched a handful of reviews about this movie, and we're like, man, this is not as violent as I was expecting.

Yeah, no, I was expecting way more grotesque, I was waiting way more gore. And the third act just drags, and the villain in the third act is not needed. It's not, it doesn't come close to even though the atrocity that was the damn, I'm gonna call it Rat King 2, because that's basically what it was in Evil Dead Rises, and damn, nothing comes close to the third act in uh Evil Dead 2013. I'm sorry. Nothing comes close to that, even rises, and I love rises. Rises is my favorite one out of the three. And it just doesn't, it doesn't touch the horror that is rises, it doesn't touch the tension that happens in 2013. It it's it's good. Don't get me wrong, guys. It's good. Those two are bat and easily they're nines, in my opinion. One and two, yeah. Yeah, they're nines in if you tell me you like one more than the other, I'm not mad. But this is easily in third place.

Yeah, I mean, we're if we're talking the whole series as a whole, it's it's literally it's right above the first one. And probably above Army of Darkness, maybe, but two is above it.

I think two is better. I think the remake's better, I think Rise is better. Yeah, as I said, it's easily in the fourth place. You and me have both done ourselves a disservice. Have you seen Evil Dead versus Ash? I have not.

And see, like, what I what I like it's just I don't know, this it just comes up short. And with the whole family aspect, I expected more, and it just doesn't stick the landing for me. It wasn't a bad movie by any means, and it sets up a lot of great shit for the future. You know what I mean? I'm ready for the next one that comes out next year. That's that's great. We got another one coming out next year. Hopefully it's scary. I was I wanted this to lean more. I want the new movies to lean more into the horror.

Yeah, it felt like so. It felt like, and I ain't trying to cut you off, I'm sorry, but it felt like Evil Dead 2013 was and this is an analogy yoke it. It was e it was like Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 3, and Rises was 4, Rises was 4, and this was more Resident Evil 5 or 6.

Yeah, that's that's pretty on point. I'd say that's very accurate. Because like the show is like just by comparison, it's very hard to really to really look at this in a side-by-side census and be like, oh yeah, like this is so much so much better and or worse than the others.

Well, I would say, and then Ash versus the Evil Dead is more comedy too. Okay, it is, yeah. Yeah, it's more in tradition with the original Evil Dead trilogy.

Yeah, kiss watcher. Uh it made I mean it didn't hit as hard as I wanted to hit. The uh more uncomfortable than anything. The best shots scene. I'm gonna tell you, it's two shots, it's it's about three shots in it. I think is goes for the best shot. The sheet scene. The sheet scene. Oh, yeah, that was really good. The sheet scene was really shot. The kiss was good, but it just lingered too long. And the dad in the snow with the dog. Beautiful shots.

Or another issue I had was this was the first Evil Dead movie that made me kind of question the rules of Evil Dead. It was the first one that may you know had me questioning the continuity aspect of it. Because there's some stuff that happens to the Dead Eites that you feel like you should take them out, yeah.

Like it it's it is hard for me to look at this franchise and be like, oh, I can accept some par when I know what this franchise is capable of. And I don't think this movie's subpar by any stretch of the mean. But where I do think it fell a little flat for me was the fact that uh the the characters have always kind of been a highlight of this franchise. I don't care about any of them. Nope. Nope.

Or even now, I do like the movie does like intentionally try to villainize a lot of these characters, which is cool. Not something I was expecting. And then flip of it, right? I felt like what they went for here with on the the actual kills aspect, the carnage candy when it was good, was good. And I do like this isn't trying to be another evil dead, it is trying to build its own identity, and and this is where I'm gonna be a little more forgiving. I'm open to a movie that's trying to do something different and falls on its face, yeah. Opposed to a movie that's the same thing but just worse. Friday 13th, part three.

I'm not. It's not terrible, it's not bad. It's just when you watch everything else leading up to this, it kind of had my hopes up. And as John normally does in the theaters, I have low hope. I should have gone in with low hopes. And to be fair, I was sick as hell when I watched it. Maybe we're not watching. Maybe upon a rewatch, I'll I'll change my opinion. But uh but until then, John, what are you rateing this?

But guys, that's been our review for Evil Dead. Now, on to the spectacle that is a spectacle. The big boy? Yeah. The Odyssey. John Literal Big Boy. Yeah, John got the pleasure of seeing this not once, but twice, not only in IMAX. But in 70 millimeter iMacs, as the internet has dubbed, as Nolan intended. I only watched it once, but I watched it first. I did watch it first. He did beat me, he did beat me there. And I also got to experience it in Dolby. Guys, I was saying, if you can't watch this in IMAX 70 millimeter, John hasn't watched this in Dobie. He watched it in IMAX, which is okay. Watch it in Dolby. Do not go to IMAX. If you do not have a 70mm IMAX, watch it in Dobie. I'm telling you, John is gonna watch it for a third time, he's gonna watch it in Dobi. I'm gonna watch it for a second time, and I'm gonna watch it in Dobie. Dude, I'm telling you. Fucking phenomenal. So, like, we just agree this is the best thing Nutiloge's ever made, right? Yeah. I mean, I haven't even seen everything he's made. But yes, yes. But out of everything that I've seen, this is this is his this is this is his this is his take the most. Yeah, this may take the case. The fact that this whole movie, every second, was shot on 70 millimeter is astonishing.

And this is like John, I'll tell you, this is the first day I really sound normal. It's honestly one of the reasons why we're cutting it so close to recording this podcast. But this is literally the this is theater.

And I was like, how? How? Like, you know, it'd be one thing. If it was just like a one-time thing, you know? Yeah. But every part of this movie is just gorgeous, dude. It's just incredible.
