Welcome to the Build for Pressure podcast episode 117. I'm Zoran Stoikovic. Today, we talk about the most powerful relationship philosophy in the world, Ubuntu. I've always found that building relationships is more than just a social necessity. It's a profound source of learning and joy. People teach and change people. This brings us to the African philosophy of Ubuntu. The word actually comes from the Zulu and Xhosa languages of Southern Africa. At its core, Ubuntu means I am because we are, or humanity towards others. It is the idea that our identity, our own identity is inextricably linked to the people around us. You cannot be a high performer in a vacuum, right? Your excellence is a reflection of the standards, the support and the challenges provided by your community. And I love this so much, which is why I wanted to share it with you. In the context of high performing teams, Ubuntu is a secret signal that separates the elite from the average. When a team operates with an Ubuntu mindset, The foundation of each individual is strengthened by the collective. You understand that if one person fails, the system fails. And if one person succeeds, the system rises. When I invest in real authentic relationships, I'm not just helping someone else. I'm strengthening the very foundation of who I'm becoming. By surrounding myself with people who hold higher standards, I am forced to upgrade my own internal hardware. Now, this is why mental armor is often forged in a group setting. In a high-performing team, the Ubuntu principle creates a culture of mutual accountability. You don't perform just for yourself. You perform because you realize that your teammate's success depends on your reliability. When you see yourself as part of the larger who, the pressure shifts. It's no longer about your ego or your individual fear of failure. It's about your contribution to the collective. Now this shifts from me to we. And it's one of the most effective ways to reduce performance anxiety. Investing in relationships is a strategic advantage. It creates a network of support that can catch you when you fall and a mirror that reflects your true potential when you lose your way. Ubuntu reminds us that greatness is a team sport. Build your relationships with curiosity and joy. Invest in the people around you. Because at the end of the day, you are the sum of the signals you receive from the tribe. Today's invitation i'll say that one more time i just i love i love that so much like that's why i'm sharing it with you at the end of the day you are the total the sum total of the signals you receive from your tribe so today identify one person in your professional or personal tribe whom you haven't checked in with lightly reach out to them today not to ask for something but to strengthen the relationship. And remember, I am because we are. I'll see you next time.
