Life moves fast and sometimes it feels like there's no space to just catch your breath. So that's why this podcast exists. And if you're looking for fun faith filled conversations to share with your kids, don't forget to check out my other show, the Collide Kids Podcast.
Christen Clark [00:00:40]:
It's full of great interviews, resources and discipleship tools that help your family grow in faith together. Now let's dive into today's devotion. When I was a kid, people used to tell me that I had a big imagination. And they were right. I loved coming up with plays and elaborate stories at recess. At school I had this little group of friends who were always ready for whatever I dreamed up. One day we would be woodland animals living in a tree house and the next day we were the royal family in a grand castle. Or maybe pioneers from Little House on the Prairie.
Christen Clark [00:01:22]:
Listen, we were fully committed to our roles. It was awesome. Now there was one boy who always played with us and no matter what the storyline was, he always volunteered to be the butler. Every single time. Whether we were kings and queens or foxes or farmers, he was always the butler. It still makes me laugh when I think about it, and I hope that he grew up to actually be a butler somewhere. Or maybe maybe just a huge fan of Downton Abbey. My imagination carried me through childhood.
Christen Clark [00:01:53]:
I could picture whole worlds, make up stories, and dream about what life could look like one day. And even now as an adult, I still love to imagine how things could be for my family, for my ministry, or for the future. But as much as I can dream and imagine, God's imagination is in infinitely greater One of my favorite verses is from Isaiah 55. It says, for my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord, as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. I really love that verse because it reminds me that God sees so much more than I ever could. He's not limited by what's right in front of him. He he sees the full picture. His imagination isn't bound by logic or timing or even possibility.
Christen Clark [00:02:49]:
And Ephesians 3:20 tells us that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. Think about that for a second. More than we can imagine. That means no matter how big our dreams or how wild our plans, God's version is still better than. Sometimes that's easy to believe, especially when things are going well. But it's a little harder when life doesn't go the way we imagined. When we face disappointments or delays or closed doors, we start to wonder, did God forget the plan? But the truth is, God's imagination isn't just better, it's perfect. He knows how every piece of your story fits together.
Christen Clark [00:03:30]:
What looks like a detour to us, but might be a direct route to something far greater. Now, as parents, we actually get this on a smaller scale. Of course. Our kids might imagine a world where ice cream is a food group and bedtime doesn't exist. But we see the bigger picture. We know what they need. We know what seems to be fun or easy in the moment isn't always what's best. God loves us the same way.
Christen Clark [00:03:57]:
He loves us more than that. As a good and creative father who knows what's best. We might ask for something small, but he's dreaming of something eternal. We might be praying for what's comfortable, but he's planning something that will transform us. His ways are higher. His imagination is greater. His plans are more creative than anything we could ever write for ourselves. So what are you imagining right now? Do you have a good imagination like me? Maybe it's a dream for your family or for your work or for your future.
Christen Clark [00:04:33]:
Maybe it's something you've been praying for, something that hasn't happened yet. Can I just encourage you today to give your imagination back to God? It's okay to dream boldly. I think God wants us to do that. He wants us to dream boldly. But we have to trust. We have to trust deeply. We have to pray big prayers, but also leave space for his immeasurably more. God is not trying to limit your dreams.
Christen Clark [00:04:58]:
He. He's trying to expand them beyond what you could ever picture. So when things don't go the way you planned, remember, he might be writing a better story than the one you imagined. And someday you'll look back and realize that the view from his imagination was so much better than the one from yours. Foreign let's pray together. God, thank you so much for being so creative and so full of imagination. I thank you that you've put that imagination in us, that we have the ability to dream big dreams and to pray big prayers but God I'm so thankful that your ways are higher and that you know what's best for us and that your thoughts are better than our thoughts that we could think for ourselves. God when we get frustrated or discouraged because things aren't going the way we want Lord I pray that you would just help us to trust you.
Christen Clark [00:06:03]:
Help us to surrender our dreams, to surrender our imagination to you and to dream with you not just hope that you're going to come through for the things that we want. Thank you for knowing what is best for us and thank you for loving us In Jesus name Amen. Well thanks so much for listening to the 7 Minute Devotions for Busy Parents podcast. Remember God's imagination is greater than yours and that is good news. Whatever you're dreaming about, he's dreaming something even more amazing for you. So keep trusting in him, keep dreaming with him and as always keep showing up. God is with you.
