In this episode of Advent in Advance: Preparing Our Hearts for Christ, we turn to Verse 1 of “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”—a carol written by Charles Wesley in the 18th century, in a world filled with longing and oppression. His words still echo deeply today, reminding us that even in difficult times, our hope in Christ is never misplaced.

Together, we’ll reflect on the freedom, peace, and rest that only Jesus brings. Through scripture and song, we’ll pause to remember that Advent is not just about waiting for Christmas—it’s about anticipating Christ’s work in our lives right now.

📖 Scriptures we explore in this episode:

  • Isaiah 9:6–7 — The Messiah comes bringing justice, peace, and everlasting hope.
  • Luke 1:74–75 — God rescues His people from fear and sin, inviting us to serve Him in freedom.
  • Psalm 62:1–2 — True rest and salvation come from God alone, even in the storms of life.

💡 Reflection Questions:

  • In what area of my life do I most need to experience the freedom and rest Jesus offers?
  • How can I practice anticipating Christ’s work in my life this Advent season, instead of trying to force solutions myself?

At the close of this mini-season, you’re invited to join me inside my online community, Watered By the Word, for the full Advent study: Silent Night, Holy Word: A Journey Through the Carols. Together, we’ll dive even deeper into Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus and discover how the truths of scripture and song can transform your heart.
