In the final episode of Advent in Advance: Preparing Our Hearts for Christ, we reflect on Verse 4 of “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus.” This verse points us to the eternal kingship of Christ, reminding us that Jesus came not only to save us but also to reign in our hearts forever. He is both child and King—humble yet sovereign—and invites His Spirit to rule within us.

Through scripture and song, we explore what it means for Christ to reign personally in our lives. Advent is a season to examine the throne of our hearts: are we allowing Him to rule fully, or holding back? This verse calls us to surrender, trust, and welcome His Spirit’s guidance.

📖 Scriptures we explore today:

  • Luke 1:31–33 — Jesus’ kingship is eternal, rooted in God’s promise.
  • Romans 8:9–11 — The Spirit empowers our hearts to live under Christ’s reign.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 — His grace and power are sufficient, even in our weaknesses.

💡 Reflection Questions:

  • How can I invite Christ to reign more fully in my heart this Advent season?
  • What does it look like for me to live daily under the guidance and power of His Spirit?

At the conclusion of this mini-season, you’re invited to join me inside my online community, Watered By the Word, for the Advent study: Silent Night, Holy Word: A Journey Through the Carols. Together, we’ll explore Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus verse by verse, reflecting on Christ’s kingship, His reign in our hearts, and the scriptures that bring this carol to life in our daily walk with Him.
