It's Hilary Booker from Collective House Marketing and Consulting. Hillary, great to have you on board here.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, thank you so much. I'm so excited to be here and share a little bit about what we do over at Collective House and just to be here.

SPEAKER_01

That's great. Yeah, we really appreciate you taking some time to do that. Collective house marketing and consulting. Now, I gotta ask you, uh, what is Collective House?

SPEAKER_00

So, Collective House, um, in my where that came from originally is I essentially have different rooms to be able to provide different brands and industries. Um, and in those different rooms are different services as well. Um, so growing up um in the church, it was always like the big house. We always went back to home, and so again, um my business is home to me as well. So creating a space with different rooms for these industries and services. So that's where Collective House came from, because we are a collective of people, industries, and um all in between.

SPEAKER_01

Terrific. All right, well, that's uh that's outstanding. I I that came to mind uh the first time I ever saw it. I said, I gotta ask about that because I'm not following that, but uh it comes uh perfectly clear with your explanation. And um let's talk a little bit about what you do for clients because you've got all these different uh houses, you've got all these different rooms going on. Uh so uh what are what are the things that uh you specialize in?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so we do a lot at Collective House, um, and it depends on what services you're looking at. One of our biggest surface services is social media. Um, and essentially we're helping brands build strategic visibility online and in the community. Um, but when we're talking about online, we're really focusing on the growth and being able to see return through content that is resonating with people within your community, your industry, and of course throughout your area and who you're trying to target.

SPEAKER_01

And you know, it's been important over the years uh as uh social media has grown and grown, but it's even more important now that uh you be a part of that if you've got a business, right?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, absolutely. If you are not on social media, you are definitely missing out. We live in a world now where that is the first place people are going to check your credibility to see what's happening now, what's going on. Um a lot of people get set on a website, which is important, um, but that's not the first place they're going anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's interesting to see how that's uh growing and growing. And now I would think, and we didn't talk about this, but uh I would think now with uh TikTok getting the uh sort of the okay stamp of approval now that it's an American company, that that's gonna open up that as a new frontier, even more so than it was before, right?

SPEAKER_00

No, I agree 100%. And you know, I think a lot of people too, when they're looking at a social media standpoint for their business, is being strategic about which platforms you are on. Um, because each platform calls for different content and what's going to be a part of the agar rhythm and get that visibility. So again, being strategic of which platform you're going for.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I'm not saying that uh uh Clay Radio is going to be jumping on TikTok anytime soon, but you know, there's people that didn't probably belong there that didn't do anything with it because it was not uh officially stamped okay to to do that. There was concern about uh data and safety and all that kind of stuff. And so I think a lot of those people now that they've got that sort of okay, uh you'll see them jump into that pond.

SPEAKER_00

100%. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

No doubt. So collective house marketing consulting at your company, and uh how long ago did you uh jump into business for yourself?

SPEAKER_00

So I decided to make the jump in July of 2023. Um I come from a corporate background. Um, I did a lot in marketing and branding around events and businesses, and I kept finding myself in this box um and not being able to get out into the community as much as I was wanting. Um so 2023, I crossed my fingers and toes and jumped out of a plane and gave myself three months and here we are. Yeah, quite literally. So very blessed.

SPEAKER_01

That's great. Yeah, that's really good, good stuff. Um any surprises being in business for yourself? I mean, a lot of people think that, okay, I know what I'm doing, but then there's other things that sort of encroach uh on on your running your business.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, absolutely. You know, strictly marketing background, right, with branding, and so I don't know the first thing about what it took to start a business when I did. Um and again, literally jumping out of a plane just with what I knew and I was gonna make it work. Um so there was a lot of surprises along the way. And I mean, even till this day, I'm going through growth and having to pivot and change and learn because social media world in particular is changing every day. Um and with that comes changes and strategic uh shifts through the business. And I didn't realize how intense that would be. Um, but we're we're rocking and rolling and it's been working. So that's great.

SPEAKER_01

That's all that uh that counts. And uh of course, uh your background lends itself to being involved in uh, you know, companies of all sizes, whether it's a one-man operation or a bigger uh you know corporate kind of a setting, and and that must be rewarding and challenging at the same time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. Um what kind of drove me was I l I enjoyed a little bit of corporate uh because it was bringing me to those businesses. Um, and because of corporate, that's what really actually opened my eyes and drove me to continue to be in the spaces of businesses.

SPEAKER_01

We're talking with uh Hilary Booker from Collective House Marketing and Consulting. She is uh in business for herself, uh headquartered out of uh Green Cove Springs. And uh coming up in just a little bit, uh Hillary's gonna tell us uh you know some of the uh things that you as a small business owner or medium business owner or even any kind of organization for that matter uh can take advantage of some things on social media and uh things that uh you know you may not be doing, but uh things that you should be doing. So we'll get to that in just a bit. But uh in terms of uh small business people uh today, and that's who we'll we'll talk to for just a moment, uh they really need to be uh uh a face in that uh that crowd on social media. How do they do that and you know run their business and do it all are there's some simple things that can be done?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. Um I know as a small business owner, even myself, it can be very busy. Um I know picking up the phone and taking the extra five minutes can be difficult. Um so if you're in a position to have somebody that's a part of your team or with your small business that's able to take a couple seconds, uh, whether you're behind the camera or it's just more behind the scenes of the business, and being able to post that, that makes a huge difference.

SPEAKER_01

And uh a lot of uh bigger companies, obviously, they have whole teams of people that are doing in fact local governments as well are doing that kind of stuff. Anybody that you see out there that do it pretty well that you admire in terms of their effort on social media?

SPEAKER_00

Oh yes, uh there's a few out there in particular. Um, the Leitner Museum down in St. Augustine, their social media um page is absolutely incredible. It's everything that you're looking for when you're trying to promote your business from being able to storytell um in particular their venue and what they have to offer, but also also showing the credibility that's coming back around from the couples or individuals that are hosting the events there and being able to display and show that.

SPEAKER_01

That's great. Yeah. Now when you work with somebody, are you coming up with those general ideas? Or do you you expect the uh business owner or the the organization uh director um to suggest those things or or or does it come the other way?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so um essentially we take everything off of your plate. Um so if you are a small business owner who can um invest in some marketing dollars, we handle everything for you. Um from strategic standpoint, um we look at your competitors and kind of put together a matrix to see what's working for them, um, but also kind of honing in on the brand voice for that small business and being able to promote them. So we do everything from strategic planning to coming on site and actually capturing the content, editing it, posting it, creating the captions, making sure we're using SEO keywords to help you get a part of the algorithm. And then, of course, we go over analytics to show you what's working, the visibility that we're seeing, and how we continue to strategically move.

SPEAKER_01

And uh, you know, we're gonna take a time out here, but when we come back, uh Hillary's gonna give us some uh tips for uh small business owners as to how you can best take advantage of uh social media and what you should be doing, even if it's just uh dipping a toe in the water in the water of uh social media. And she also has an interesting story about Mike Tyson that she was involved with on a uh project. She's gonna explain that as well. So those two things are are getting to me. I can't wait to hear those. Uh stay where you are. We're we got more with Hillary Booker, Collective House Marketing and Consulting here on Clay Radio coming up. Don't go away. This is Clay County Vibes. Hey, Clay County, thanks for uh joining us uh here again on Clay Radio. It is Clay County Vive, the name of the program. And of course, uh we uh talk to some of the greatest people around that uh do business and uh work and play and worship and all kinds of things in Clay County, and that's what the uh station's all about. And so uh we uh again today have a uh great guest that we'll introduce to you in just a moment if you're just joining us. But Clay County Vibes is heard Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday noon and five p.m. And of course you can look it up uh at uh clay radio.com, and you can also send us an email at clayradioonline at gmail.com. And let's get back to our guest now. She's been patiently waiting through the break and she's got some good stuff for us. Uh, Hilary Booker is the owner operator of uh Collective House Marketing and Consulting. And uh Hilary, uh, it is uh great to have you with us. And of course, uh uh why don't we give folks some contact information if uh somebody's interested to uh follow up and ask you uh what they're doing is right or wrong on the uh the internet, on the interwebs as they call it, uh how do they do that?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. So you can find us on Facebook at Collective House Marketing and Consulting, on Instagram, you can find us at Collective House M C. And of course, you could always reach out to me at my email, which is Hillary B, as in Booker, H-I-L-L-A-R-Y B at collectivehousemc.com.

SPEAKER_01

Terrific. All right, and hopefully uh you'll give Hillary a uh a call and talk to her a little bit about social media because uh in the first part of the program we talked about the fact that uh the social media is a very important aspect of marketing these days for companies. And if you're not doing it, you should try to do something, whether it's self-educated uh about what what it works or doesn't work, but you you gotta be in the game to to play the game, right?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. That is the first place people are now going to is your social media platforms to see what's happening now, to be able to check out your credibility um and to check out your product or whatever you might be bringing to the table with your business.

SPEAKER_01

Now most people are familiar with Facebook, right? And uh that is still a very viable option as far as um drawing people to uh to their business through social media. But we also have uh LinkedIn, uh we've got what uh TikTok, Instagram, Instagram, the gram. I love when people you know short every name in the book, right? The the gram. You gotta be on the gram, okay, whatever. Uh and what else do we have?

SPEAKER_00

We got YouTube as well, that's a really big one. Some people are starting to form on Discord, Twitch. So again, it just depends on your brand and your business and what you are looking for because each platform does call for different things. Um, so just to kind of give an example, Instagram is a very imagery-driven place for discovery. Um, so it's a great place to have some presence because you're able to find discovery there. Facebook is more of a place where people go for credibility for community. Um, so having a presence on Facebook is important, especially for support of your community friends, um, and also people wanting to check out your credibility. And you can also do that through posting on your Facebook page, but most importantly, being part of Facebook groups.

SPEAKER_01

All right. And uh I forgot the big one, of course, X. How could I forget? Yeah, yeah. Formerly Twitter now, X.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that is a big one. I will say I don't participate too much on that platform just because a lot of the businesses that I work for don't call for that platform. Um, so I'm not on there too much, uh, but it is a great space, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

And can you hurt yourself by putting the wrong content on the on the wrong channel here?

SPEAKER_00

Um, I think if you do it in a tasteful way, it's okay. Um, you don't want to overpost, um, but also you have to keep in mind um when you're wanting to grow visibility on each of these platforms, what that might look like. Um, again, because some call for more imagery base, some call like LinkedIn is more of hearing your voice and you know, reading a paragraph or so of what's going on in your life, your company, things like that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, see, that's where I get hung up all the time, right? Because uh we we got a pretty decent uh uh uh footprint in terms of Facebook at this time for the radio station. But you know, I I always get something and then I'm wondering, I think this would be good for LinkedIn, but I'm afraid to put put it up there and take that uh that chance that uh I'm gonna insult somebody because oh no, that you're not supposed to put that up there. That's that's for you know X, uh, but not for you know LinkedIn or that.

SPEAKER_00

I wouldn't even worry about that. No, no, I think um having a presence is important um and having content is important and whichever way you're able to show up, show up. Uh whether that be you on the camera, behind the scenes, um, or you sharing product in some form. A lot of people think that they have to post four, five, six days a week. Uh that couldn't be further from the truth. What's really important is engagement and how you're engaging the audience, which brings you to visibility.

SPEAKER_01

And uh in terms of the Instagram or LinkedIn or or any of those uh kind of things, is uh it's consistency, right? Regardless of what you're talking about in terms of the the platform as they call them, I call them channels, but platforms, but it it's important to have that consistency.

SPEAKER_00

Consistency is everything, and again, engagement is everything. Um when we talk about engagement, that means you know, when someone comments on your post, make sure you're commenting back, um, making sure you're liking other people's uh posts, commenting, um, giving feedback, things along those lines, and resharing. If someone tags your business, go ahead and share that on your story. It's only beneficial because it shows your credibility.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so that's uh that's an important aspect of it as well. When you say engagement, it's to participate, not just to slap it up there and let it go. If somebody asks questions or comments, you want to be able to say, hey, you know, you put something up, they said, Hey, that's great, and then you want to say, Hey, thanks very much, or whatever the case may be.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you will get nowhere if you're just posting and leaving the platform.

SPEAKER_01

And what about uh in terms of that? Uh you're talking about uh tagging or sharing those things. Uh that's uh that's another place I I fall badly to the bottom of the barrel as far as uh knowledge is concerned. So I put something up, somebody tags it, right, and then um they move it on uh ahead somewhere else. Um should I take that same thing and then maybe tag it and send it to somebody else that might be interested? Is that a good etiquette on the social media or not?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. So there's a few different things. If someone tags you, um being able to reshare it in your story again because of credibility, but also when they're tagging you, they're bringing you visibility to their audience. Um and then of course um being able to reshare and tag someone else if you feel like it's aligned for them. Um you'll see a lot of stuff out there where maybe there's a giveaway going on and it says, you know, tag your free threat, you know, your three friends, your free th, you know, three more friends is more eyes, and then the continuing of sharing that goes on and on.

SPEAKER_01

All right, yeah. So uh if they're following you, they won't mind if you tag them, in other words. Correct. Because then otherwise they wouldn't have uh uh followed you to start with.

SPEAKER_00

Correct, and it's engagement and especially other businesses. So just for an example, if you have a business come in, um, even if they're a competitor, right, and they they buy your coffee and your muffin or whatever and they love it and they share it on their story, share it on your story too. Visibility is everything, community is everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, very good. Hey, we're talking with uh Hilary Booker, she's with Collective House Marketing and Consulting. We've been talking a lot about social media, but that's uh where people actually do a lot of uh their marketing these days, right? Yeah, but uh you handle other things outside of just uh the social media.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, so that's online. As far as in the community, we're really big on uh B2B partnerships, so bringing businesses uh together, whether if that's like in a referral setting, supporting one another. Um, one of the biggest things for Collective House for me was almost building like an internal commerce where my clients can support each other and lift each other up. Um so we do help with that side of things. If you have an event and you want more visibility, or maybe you need some flyers made up, we also help in that space as well. Um say if you want help with an event, we're partnered with In Good Co events, they're an amazing company and they do a lot of things in the nonprofit space. So, marketing, we have a lot going on and a lot to offer online and in the community.

SPEAKER_01

And uh, of course, uh Hillary is available whenever you give her a call, she'll be glad to give you a little bit of a you know uh thumbnail sketch as to what your business is doing right and wrong, maybe on the on the on the website. But uh, we're gonna also tell you a little bit about that coming up because we still haven't told you the Mike uh Tyson story. Yes, and that's pretty juicy. And uh so don't go too far away from that. And uh she's also got some more tips for you for your uh small business. And uh that'll all come your way next here on Clay County Vibes. So stay right where you are. We're gonna come back with Hillary Booker from Collective House Marketing and Consulting, and we're gonna come back with uh more of Clay Radio for you right after this. And we are back, Clay County. This is Clay Radio, and uh the program's name is Clay County Vibes. My name is Mike Sella, good to have you with us. All right, so let's uh get back to our guest. Hilary Booker is here. She's uh with Collective House Marketing and Consulting. That also may be a good time for you to listen to uh Clay Radio and I'll scat sketch out some stuff on uh on your uh Facebook page or something for the day, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah to tie that in.

SPEAKER_01

Tie uh you know some kind of an event that's happening with your business. That's essentially what you're trying to do, right?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, yep.

SPEAKER_01

See, I'm learning. You're you're teaching me well here as we go along. All right, now Hilary is a uh specialist on uh social media. Uh she also does uh business-to-business advertising, guerrilla marketing, some other marketing kind of things besides the social media, and you can always uh get a hold of you how.

SPEAKER_00

Uh you can reach out to us on Facebook at Collective House Marketing Consulting. We are on Instagram at Collective House MC. You can also reach out to me at 561-508-1570 or my email, which is HillaryB at CollectivehouseMC.com.

SPEAKER_01

All right, and we've uh teased it for a better part of an hour. We we learned something from TV too. You know, tease something at the beginning of the show, then hold on to it until the end. ESPN is famous for that. And so uh we're falling right in line with everybody else, unfortunately. But Hillary has uh got a story to tell about working with one Mr. Mike Tyson.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was definitely an adventure, and I will forever carry that with me.

SPEAKER_01

How did you find him to work with?

SPEAKER_00

So at the time I was working on an app out of Ponta Vidra. It was essentially a place to be able to podcast live in chat communities centered around your favorite interest. Um, so you could go live with multiple people, chat in the chat room, and at the time there was a lot of censorship going on around particular topics. And Mike Tyson Mike Tyson at the time had just launched a product line and he was really wanting to get it out there more and be a part of more community and voices. So we pitched this relevant platform to him. Um and before we knew it, he became a shareholder and things just started moving along.

SPEAKER_01

He really liked the idea, obviously. And you know, you would not think that uh Mike Tyson is somebody that has uh gone and met the people he's met and seen the sites he's seen and done the things he's done. He'd have a problem in terms of uh you know relating to people and actually uh talking to people, but obviously that was the case. That's what enticed him into uh into being. An investor, partner, shareholder, whatever you want to call in this. How did things work out in the long run?

SPEAKER_00

So, yeah, he was tired of the censorship. He wanted a place to be able to speak freely in the long run with development. Things didn't get exactly where we wanted, but we had some fun things and bumpy things along the way. So it was really exciting. Mike Tyson actually went live on the Joe Rogan podcast with our relevant shirt and kind of put it out there to let people know. And not long after, Mike Tyson was getting on a plane to come back in a relevant t-shirt. And one of the passengers on the airplane kept harassing him. And he told him a couple times, man, like back off. I need you to calm down. But the passenger was under the influence and did not get the picture. And so he had the ultimate moment that anybody in this world, well, some weirdos would be like, wow, but also nothing you want to be approached by, got sucker punched right in the face by Mike Tyson, live recorded, and blasted on the news in our relevant shirt. So it was crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you couldn't uh you couldn't ask for uh more exposure that way. I mean, there's other ways to get the exposure, maybe, but not that. But uh I guess it's like you know, in the old days when uh the gunslinger came into town, somebody was always there to challenge him, and that's probably what Mike faces uh probably more than once during the course of the year that you know somebody challenges well. You think you're such a big tough guy? You used to be a boxer, I'll you know uh yeah, I'll take you on or whatever, and that kind of thing. He he was uh pretty good to work with, though, otherwise other oh yeah, he was awesome.

SPEAKER_00

I got to hold a podcast a few times. Well, we held a nice big podcast with him um on the platform, and it was very successful. We pulled up a lot of fans that interacted with him. Um, and then of course I had the privilege to meet him down in Miami when him and Rick Flair were doing a conference down there for their podcast. That's quite a combo. Yeah, it is a combo. Um but since you kind of mentioned exposure because we're talking about marketing here, yeah, that would have been great exposure with that relevant shirt and what happened on the plane. Um, but one of the mistakes that happened in the marketing realm at that time is they didn't take advantage and they didn't capitalize off of it. So it could have been something really big in the sense of eyes more on the platform. Um but when you don't have strategic planning in place, sometimes you miss you miss an opportunity.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's too bad because that that that was uh quite an opportunity there, then no question about it. All right. Now we also teased uh the fact that you're gonna give some uh solid tips out uh to uh business owners or people that run organizations, or even if they just do want to do it for themselves for whatever reason, some advice about uh what the average person should be doing on Facebook giving us some some tips. So I'll turn the floor over to you and let you figure out what's important for them to know, at least to get started.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so from one business owner to another, I know it's finding time sometimes can be frustrating, but at least having a general idea of a direction. So um I would encourage you to at least post three, four times a week to be able to have some form of presence on social media, whether again that be the product that you're selling at the time, behind the scenes, the more organic feeling and real, the more success you're going to have. So being able to put energy there, highly recommend taking 15 minutes, 30 minutes if you can, of your time to really do engaging. So again, replying back to people that are taking the time that they're showing their interest, also showing other industries and those individuals love through engagement, commenting, liking. Geolocation is huge. I see a lot of businesses miss out on this opportunity when they're posting on Instagram and Facebook. There is always an option to tag your location. Absolutely tag your location. This is another way for you to get visibility when people are looking at a certain location. So if I go to Instagram and I type in Pana Vidra, um, you know, a bunch of different things and businesses are gonna pop up that tag that geolocation. So it's another opportunity to kind of get ahead and visibility versus you solely posting something on your page and it being coming across the algorithm or someone just happens to see it because someone tagged you or you already follow. So geolocation, remember that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so it's more than just a pin down and let people know where you are.

SPEAKER_00

Correct. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and um, don't be afraid to broaden it either. So for instance, your business is in Orange Park, uh, but you really want some more business from St. Augustine and Palm Coast. It is okay to make a post and tag a different location, even if your business is not solely there. It's very successful. I've seen it work many different ways, so that's something to keep in mind as well when you are posting.

SPEAKER_01

And that's easy enough to do, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, tagging people. So say if you're having an event, tagging the actual band physically, um, tagging the location, say if it's at Thrasher Horn, also tagging them because this now becomes on their radar and they might turn around and share it again for more visibility. So those are some tips that I would keep close in your pocket. Engagement 15 to 30 minutes a day, making sure you are tagging locations of where you're at or maybe your target audience, and also tagging the businesses and other companies that you might be working with, whether that be around your event, products, and so forth.

SPEAKER_01

And it doesn't have to be really a fancy post, right? It doesn't have to be a lot of professional artwork and all that kind of stuff. It just matters to make sure that people understand it, everything's spelled correctly, you know, all those kinds of things.

SPEAKER_00

Correct. Yeah, and uh, you know, what performs well the most on social media is short form videos. Um so of course you can post one photo. Um what does better than that is that you're posting multiple, which is called a carousel. But if you have the ability to do a short form video and put it into a reel, that is what's going to get more visibility and be pushed a little bit heavier as well. Um so something to keep in mind.

SPEAKER_01

So is there an optimal number of uh uh pictures to be able to put up there?

SPEAKER_00

Um so I believe you can put um currently 15 to 20. I might be wrong on that. But I see a lot of success when you start putting three to five images and more.

SPEAKER_01

Not too many and and not too few. So that three is is not a bad uh target to work with.

SPEAKER_00

Oh no, not at all. Um and that short torn short form video.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, terrific.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Hillary, thanks so much. Boy, you've really educated me. I hope uh the other folks that uh are listening in today also uh take that to heart and start using that in their uh social media campaigns that they run. You know, we've got all those different platforms to to worry about these days, but uh you know, pick out uh something that works for you. And if you need some help, Hillary's the person to talk to, no question about it. So uh once again, thanks, Hillary. We appreciate it.

Yeah, thank you for having me. It was um my pleasure.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we've got uh Hillary Booker here from Collective House Marketing and Consulting, and of course uh the program will air a number of times, Tuesday, uh, Thursdays, Saturdays uh at noon and five PM, and then again after it's aired for those three times on the uh station, we'll put it up on the uh podcast, and of course, uh then it'll be available to you to share and to uh look at uh over and over again as a on demand item, which is uh pretty cool. All right, uh again, thank you so much. Uh we appreciate the support and the fact that uh you uh took some time to spend with us here today on Clay County Vibes, and of course uh we'll uh talk to you again very soon on the same platform, uh Clay Radio. So go out and make it a great day.
